After the loss of her father, Riley Hudson's heart needs a change of scenery to heal. Two days of highways and truck stops land her and her dog in Skagway, an Alaskan tourist town beckoning from the back of a postcard. A rustic cabin, a new job at the local dive bar, and hiking trails promise distraction. When a chance encounter with her neighbor causes some serious sparks, she's eager to explore a lot more than the mountains.
Silas Stroud has spent a long time trying to atone for his sins, now acting as an enforcer for the vampire coalition. His relatively quiet life with his dog and fellow vampire, Otto, has kept the dark cravings at bay. But the last thing Silas expected to find on the trail was a woman who smells so good his fangs ache every time he thinks about her.
There's something different about Riley. One way or another—she's meant to be his.

I love that Ashely Bennet has entered their PNR era! There's something about a vampire romance that always draws me in and this one was perfection.
Riley is moving to Alaska to cope with her grief after her father's passing. She decides to go on trip they had always planned together, and sets off with her dog to fulfil that dream. Silas is a vampire who has been punishing himself and keeping his distance from everything for decades. When he meets his vibrant, headstrong new neighbour all his carefully held self-restraint will be challenged.
The relationship development between Riley and Silas was so good! The tension of watching them slowly get to know their feelings and Silas trying to fight his attraction was delicious. And add in walks their adorable dogs and I was in love! There was also plenty of world building that sets up future stories that I can't wait to read!
On top the the awesome plot and great relationship, this book packed in plenty of heat! There were lots of spicy times and they were all super hot! Riley and Silas can not keep away from each other and we are all here to benefit from their attraction. And no vampire romance would be complete without a blood drinking scene and oh boy does this book deliver!!
I am so excited to see where this series goes. This was some top tier vampire romance and I loved every word!
Give me a hot vampire with a mustache who worships the ground I walk on, and I too would be convinced to become a vampire after 3 months of meeting…….
What does that say about me? That I have a phenomenal taste in men and paranormal creatures💅🏻
I’m still debating between 3.75 & 4✨ so please bear with me while I debate this by myself for the next 3-5 business days!!!
Ok so on paper, this book was legitimately made for me. And honestly, I had a great time reading it, especially since it’s fall so the vibes are right!
A hot, a little bit grumpy, vampire, with a mustache and a southern accent, who is calm, protective, adoring, and wants to give his girl unlimited orgasms? And he’ll do the laundry, buy me a treat and is an acts of service man? That’s my dream man right there!!! Silas was EVERYTHING AND MORE!!! The way he worships and devotes himself to Riley from the start? I need a man like that. He is also struggling with a lot of scars from his past, but with Riley, he’s able to work through them which was beautiful.
Riley is also dealing with grief and life after the passing of her father, and makes a move to a new town, where she meets a handsome vampire and the rest is history. Riley was a great FMC honestly. She was fun, and feisty. She didn’t just roll over for Silas (even though I wouldve) and gave him space when he needed it. She also gave herself room to grow into the person she wanted to be, or the vampire rather.
I loved the plot, how both characters are navigating hardships, grief, and their pasts together, while also falling in love and embracing their futures together. I really loved Otto, the pups, Frida and the storyline with The Coalition, which I hope to get more into in the next books!!! The spice? OFF THE CHARTS! So many fun and super hot scenes, some voyeurism, some blood play, some continuous o’s. So many kinks and so little time.
My biggest issue with this book, which pains me to say because I probably would’ve given it at least a 4.5 if it wasn’t for this, was that everything felt rushed. From the moment I started the book, it felt like things were happening at 2x speed and we didn’t have time to stop. It was a little insta lovey. Silas and Riley’s relationship progressed very quickly, which again I probably would’ve overlooked because he’s a vampire and he’s hot so I’d fall for him too, but it’s the fact that the actually plot was moving too quickly too. And then the end? Everything happened in 2 chapters and we’re just supposed to move on? Idk I just wish there was a bit more time to let the readers and the characters sit with what was going on and what they’re experiencing. So yeah that’s my biggest thing! But I still think it’s a fun read, especially for my paranormal lovers!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (DON'T LOOK AT ME, I HAVE NO SELF-CONTROL)
I GOT THE eARC AND PROCEEDED TO BINGE THIS WHOLE BOOK UNTIL 4 AM. AM I GUILTY? ABSOLUTELY. DO I REGRET IT? NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. 😭🤭❤️🔥
Rugged Blood was SEXY AS FUCK and SO FREAKING CUTE AT THE SAME TIME!! Like, excuse me??? How am I supposed to function after this?? I went in thinking I'd read a few chapters, and the next thing I knew, it was 4 AM, my sleep schedule was ruined, and I was OBSESSED 🫠🥵
FIRST OF ALL, THIS MAN'S MOUTH. SIR. YOUR MOUTH. THE THINGS HE SAID HAD ME PANTING, GIGGLING, KICKING MY FEET, AND FORGETTING HOW TO BE A FUNCTIONING HUMAN BEING 🫠❤️🔥🥵 THE AUDACITY. THE NERVE. THE ABSOLUTE POWER THIS MAN HAD OVER ME??? I WAS NOT OKAY. Someone needs to confiscate his mouth because WHAT WAS THAT?!? 🤭
But here's the thing: beneath all that SEXINESS, there was so much CUTENESS, TOO!! 🥹💗 And you KNOW I'm weak for a man who can make me lose my mind one minute and have me melting into a puddle the next. The contrast between the heat and the tenderness made this reading experience SO MUCH BETTER. I WAS EATING IT UP!!
AND THE FOUND FAMILY??? OH, MY HEART 😭🫂❤️ You guys KNOW how much I love found family, and this one had me in a CHOKEHOLD. There's something so special about watching characters find their people, build connections, and create a place where they genuinely belong.
Honestly, I went into this book for the vibes and stayed because I WAS INVESTED. The chemistry, the sexy moments, the sweetness, the found family... IT ALL WORKED FOR ME!! Ashley Bennett, WHAT DID YOU PUT IN THIS BOOK?! Because staying up until 4 AM reading an eARC is NOT a normal level of behavior, and yet here we are 😭🤭
Ashley Bennett, you have some EXPLAINING TO DO ABOUT THAT MAN'S MOUTH. 🥵❤️🔥
And to everyone who's about to read this one: GOOD LUCK. I hope you have better self-control than I do, because apparently, I have absolutely NONE. 🤡💗
This was my first book by Ashley Bennett and it certainly won’t be my last because WHAT DID I JUST READ?!
Riley moves to Alaska after losing her dad, hoping for a fresh start and to finally take the trip they’d always planned together. What she probably wasn’t planning on was her hot, broody mountain man neighbor being a VAMPIRE.
And Silas?! A vampire who has basically sentenced himself to a lifetime of isolation because he’s still carrying around the guilt from his past? Sir. You were practically engineered in a lab for me!!
I loved Riley and Silas together. The chemistry was there immediately, but I especially loved watching Silas try SO HARD to keep his distance from her while Riley is basically bulldozing her way into his very lonely little existence. Their relationship was sweet, sexy, a little unhinged, and way hotter than I was prepared for.
And speaking of hot…GOOD LORD. This book was SPICING. 🥵
But what really surprised me was how invested I got in the actual story!! There’s so much more going on outside of the romance, and once everything started coming together I could NOT put this freaking book down.
AND THAT ENDING?!
Ashley Bennett, ma’am. Respectfully. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!
I am currently hanging off the edge of a cliff by my FINGERTIPS losing my damn mind because you cannot just leave me THERE?!?!
Thank you so much to Berkley, NetGalley, and Ashley Bennett for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Ashley Bennett and NetGalley for the opportunity to receive an ARC of Rugged Blood.
This is my first time reading a book by Ashley Bennett and the bar has been set high!
I immediately was hooked when first introduced to Silas, our sad boy vampire who struggles to accept himself - his redemption, the guilt he carries with him after decades. He is guarded and doesn’t let anyone close except for his co-worker and best friend Otto. That is until he meets Riley.
Riley is going through her own struggles of grief after losing her dad. But she finds herself in Alaska, a place where her and her dad wanted to go. To pack up everything and move is courageous and bold. She is learning to find herself again, what she wants in life and to heal from grieving.
When Riley and Silas meet there is an instant pull, Riley is standoff-ish at first - a rugged mountain man in the middle of the wilderness, I don’t blame her. But she feels a connection to him that she can’t explain. Silas feels this connection, a sense of hunger for her which makes him panic due to his past and what he is. He tries to keep his distance but she calls him out on his avoidance.
Their connection is strong, mate strong. His secret is deadly, how she will react scares Silas the most. He doesn’t want to lose her. I love Leah, the bar owners daughter and Riley’s new best friend. I love Otto and the friendship and support he gives Silas. Leah, Otto play matchmaker not letting either Riley or Silas miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the depths of their relationship.
Besides the romance and friendship there is the issue what brought Silas and Otto to Alaska in the first place. There’s a danger lurking, there always is. The Reborn are growing in numbers and The Coalition, who promise to protect humans, must find a way to stop them. Silas and Otto are part of the Coalition, tracking down any signs of The Reborn.
Due to their secret, they can’t stay in Alaska for much longer. What will that mean for Riley and Silas? I loved this book so much, it was too good to put down.
This book was SO incredible. I want it tattooed on my forehead and ingrained in my brain (don’t worry I’ve taken care of that part)
I take my love for Ashley Bennett’s work VERY seriously…but I have an important announcement to make…THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE.
🧛♂️ vampire MMC 🐶 dog lovers ⛰️ small town 💦 forced o’s 🩸 play/ feeding 🪵 woodworking sad boi 📸 camera fun 🪦 touch her and 💀
Not only was the plot phenomenal (I was on the edge of my seat the entire time) it was one of the hottest books I’ve EVER read. Yes, I cried and yes I will continue to cry every time I re-read it AND about my love for it.
I need you to read this book. I’m not asking, I am telling you. Read 👏 it 👏 now. I cannot tell you how much I love this book from beginning to end. Every. Single. Page.
Silas is my dream man. I cannot describe a more perfect MMC. He is the hottest man on planet earth (#confirmed) and I would literally go to the ends of the earth for him. Can he please teach me to parallel park next? And the camera?!? Sorry…I’m died dead.
Riley. Riley. Riley. First, she’s the hottest woman on the planet (see they are a match made in heaven) but she is also just someone I want to give the biggest hug to. She is sexy confident and caring all wrapped up in a bundle of delicious curves…I’m not saying I’m a vampire but…👀😋

Thank you beyond to Ashley, Berkley, and NetGalley for this ARC. My year has been MADE.
Riley moves to a small town in Alaska to start over after the death of her father. It’s there that she meets Silas, who just so happens to be a vampire.
Overall this book was pretty good, but I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a series. There were already established storylines happening, that were explained a little bit, but I felt like I was missing information that would have been covered in a previous book. I even went and double checked to make sure this wasn’t part of a series. With all of that being said I was still able to follow along with the storyline.
Silas was such a sweet guy, and I loved how careful he was with Riley, knowing how his actions in the past had caused harm. I think Riley gave him confidence in himself that he really needed, and I loved that for him. It was so sweet how Riley finally had someone in her life choose her and become her person. They were a good match for sure.
The spicy times in the book were varied and hot! Read the trigger warnings for sure though, since being a vampire and biting is involved. The story is mostly of Riley and Silas coming together, and it looks to be setting up a larger world. I would definitely be interested in reading more books set in this universe. I want to thank the Berkley Publishing Group via NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to leave a review.
This book was like a basket of chips and salsa, once it was out in front of me I couldn’t stop reading, even when I should have stopped I still kept reading!
Holy rugged vampire cannoli, this book slapped!
I will say these vampires aren’t like the ones we are use to seeing in media, and it’s explained a bit.
Silas and Riley had the hots for each other the moment they saw it each other, and later reveals had me squealing! These two were also very kinky!
Otto was a great side character, and he was so funny! I need more of him, because I have a feeling I would laugh so much.
Overall, it was a great story! The chemistry was great, and I loved it. And it’s definitely got me in the spooky season!
ARC Review: I was so excited when I was approved for this ARC, and it lived up to my expectations! I loved the sad girl/sad boy aspect and how they both helped each other heal. Otto is the best friend and support system Silas could ask for, and I'm excited to see where book 2 takes his story. (I just want my big baby boy Otto to be happy!) I loved Leah and I wish we got more time with her! I wish the pups Nikki and Cal could be turned into vampires too because I want them to live forever. This was a fun read and I will definitely be recommending this to friends!
plenty of spice! I also loved the plot, although i wish we had gotten more of the suspense and mystery plotline because it feels like it only showed up at the beginning and end of the book. the romantic chemistry between the two main characters was palpable and the smut was delicious. i appreciate that this book builds for the next book but i still feel like there are pieces of the over all story that i wish we had gotten in this book! bonus points for hot country vampire in alaska and no third act breakup
