The Light in My Bunny

Rate this book
Conejo glowed like a whole universe of stars--until one day he didn't seem as bright as before.

In Conejo the bunny, Selena's found her best friend: he's cuddly, curious, and magical. He glows! But one day, Conejo's light begins to dim. Selena tries everything to bring back his glow, from covering Conejo with lights to giving him many, many pets . . . but nothing works. As Conejo's lights continue to flicker, Selena must prepare for when his light goes out entirely.

Through luminous illustrations, The Light in My Bunny offers a gentle look into the experience of pet loss, and comforts readers with the reminder that through love and memory, the light of our loved ones never goes out. Sensitive and humane, Selena and Conejo's story helps readers understand and process the grief of losing someone slowly--a much-needed angle in the grief resource space. The Light in My Bunny softly reminds young readers: You are not alone.

I felt a little anxious about reading this book because I’m still grieving my old cat who died last year. I thought it would be hard, but instead, it felt like a hug to the parts of me that hurt the most.

Even though it’s a children’s book, it gently guides you through the author’s journey of dealing with these feelings in a way that both children and adults can easily relate to. The illustrations are 10/10, and the use of color makes it even easier to understand and feel every word of the story.

I'd certainly recommend anyone to get this book, to be a little reminder of the beauty of love and not only the pain when losing someone

Loved it. Very sweet story about grief as a kid. While in these days it's easy to find books on many subjects and the passing of our loved ones is not the taboo subject matter it once was, it's not so easy to find books as charming and deep and complex as this one manages to be in such a few pages.

The author is very clearly a skilled artist and while the pictures in this book can be a sight to behold, Vargas' skills as a writer and storyteller should not be forgotten.

It's a great resource for school librarians, as it's definitely something relatable to a bunch of little guys.

The vibrant colors and the adorable character design caught my attention at first. Then the story as simple as it might seem, had me in tears at the end.

The book is both beautifully illustrated and narrated. Easy to understand and to feel the emotions depicted in its pages. Very good to teach children about the loss of a pet or a dear one, as it focuses in the beauty of making memories together rather than in the grief itself.

This is a beautiful tale to bring to your life. Luna manages to tell a tale of complex emotions, that can really easily give confort to the reader about a really complicated topic.
Some times, some experiences are better told with images, and this book, has an amazing artwork.

I'm hoping to see more from this Author.

This lovely short story made me tear up remembering my dog that passed away not so long ago. The art is really soft and warm and goes really well with the beautiful message of the value of memories that we make with people or beings we love. This picture book is for anyone that has lost someone or something they love, for kids or adults. And a great way to bring up the topic of grief.

Beautiful, charming and colorful book that not only helps children navigate through grief and understanding loss, but will for sure remind adults of that one beloved childhood pet. Luna Vargas’ craftsmanship really shines here with an expert use of colors, shapes and textures. Great addition to my library and can’t wait to share it with my younger (and older) family members!

This is a book full of magic from beginning to end!
By talking about a subject as complex as grief, Luna manages to show us that the good times we live together are the ones that continue to shine within us.
With very reader-friendly writing and emotional illustrations, I recommend this book for all ages, especially children, families and people who enjoy illustration.

It's a simple yet heartwarming story that truly touched me (I actually teared up a little while reading it TT) I think anyone who’s had a pet companion will be able to relate to it and the grief that comes from having to say goodbye to our babies. The illustrations are beautiful and perfectly complement the heartfelt message of the book as well

Luna captures perfectly the feeling of loving and losing something valuable in our lives. In pets we can feel the passage of time more intensely making us aware that both love and life are fleeting. The art of the book is wonderful and I can't wait to see and read more from this author illustrator.
