Rate this book
She shouldn't have gone alone that night.
She shouldn't have danced in the club.

Two weeks later and the little plus sign tells Grace she's pregnant.

However, Shen's dead and Lang wants to keep her close.
Her one night out has dragged her into the Chinese Mafia with an iron fist.

Was ok until FMC jumped both feet into TSTL. FMC was suppose to be this strong independent female, but show zero survival skills that her rich parents had sent her to training for..85% of the book she was sleeping or passed out or vomiting…zero personality. Thankfully it was a free book.

Thought about not leaving a review at all, I was that underwhelmed. The writing and dialogue is bland, the attraction between the characters nonexistent, personality as featureless as a block of wood.

Irritating that the author doesn’t know basic facts about pregnancy such as how due dates are calculated (and/or can’t do math). Irritating that the author can’t remember whether the FMC’s hair is black or brown.

Two months and two weeks after the FMC had the encounter that got her pregnant, it’s casually dropped in the text that she’s 8 weeks, which no, she isn’t: assuming a regular 28 day cycle, she would be 12 weeks along, and the “change in schedule” doctor’s appointment the MMC made for her “for a checkup” because of her “constant morning sickness” (the description in the text is actually of normal symptoms, but I guess the MMC thinks it’s excessive) would more likely be her perfectly on-schedule NT scan appointment.

The appointment specifically describes the ultrasound at “8 weeks” (actually 12) as being an over-the-belly scan even though transvaginal would be more likely at 8 weeks (abdominal scan would be normal for 12 weeks funnily enough), and then the doctor asks the FMC if she wants to go ahead with the “angio” (I assume they meant aMNio as in “amniocentesis”) and the FMC gets all salty because the MMC wants a DNA test to confirm the kid is his brother’s… she equates this to him calling her a “whore” apropos of nothing, which is a super-confusing take considering she’s obviously had unprotected sex on a ONS and got knocked up, and if she’s done it once, then why is it so verboten to suggest it wasn’t the first time? Why did she do it in the first place if casual sex was going to bother her this much? Also, the FMC freaked out about the chance of miscarriage from amniocentesis—I bet this author doesn’t know they have prenatal paternity tests with a harmless blood draw nowadays… we live in the future, man! Get with the times!

60% edit: oh, okay, so this author just doesn’t understand anything medical at all. The FMC just passed out from “lack of nutrients” and was comatose for a WEEK lol this is so unbelievable:

“With all the vomiting and the baby taking up most of the nutrition it left little for your body to function. Once this bag is done, you’ll be needing an IV every day for at least the next week.”

“Is the baby, okay?”

“The baby is growing just fine with a strong heartbeat. You need to be on bed rest for another month unless you’re able to keep food down for a full day with no vomiting.”

The author just casually adds in that she woke up wearing a blood pressure cuff that was constantly inflating and deflating to monitor her BP while no medical staff was in the room… not how that works!

The entire concept of the FMC not getting enough nutrition because the baby is taking it all… it’s just so not how it works. The human body is a lot more selfish than that; she would miscarry before starving to death. And as I mentioned, her symptoms as described in the book are far from abnormal and she’s still eating, so this coma thing just wouldn’t happen.

You know that old survival saying—you can live three days without water, three weeks without food? IF she had hyperemesis and IF she was going to be hospitalized for it, it would be first for dehydration, and would happen in a matter of days without adequate water intake, far sooner than your body tissues have time to run out of nutrition to keep you going. They would have treated her for the dehydration and the vomiting, for which there are a number of pharmaceutical solutions that would allow her to keep food down. Oh, and, since she’s now 13 weeks pregnant, the nausea is very likely to calm down on its own, since it’s primarily a first trimester thing.

It’s just a dumb, lazy way to create drama in an otherwise cruddy book.

This was my first book by this author and I got it during the SYK event. It was just okay to me. I did like some elements, but others it just fell flat. There really wasn't much of a plot even though some had presented themselves. It just lacked the follow-through. Like one example would be with the mother demanding a DNA test, but it just gets pushed to the wayside. There is supposed issues with the Russians Lang goes to take care of one guy in the end, but you don't see it. And the last chapter.. it just ends. So, yeah.. while it may be technically a HEA.. it just missed the mark for me. I know others will enjoy this book though. I think if it was longer and the holes filled in, this could have been a really good read.

This was a really good story. I really enjoy reading stories by Kindra Woods. Grace had an encounter with Shen's brother and never expected that she would become pregnant. When she went to tell him, she discovered that he was dead. When Shen is told of her pregnancy, he decides that he can't let her go. He needs to protect her due to his position. Grace isn't sure what to think of Shen. She is attracted to him but doesn't know what she really wants. Shen is conflicted as well. Will they figure things out before it's too late?

Their happy ending had to be fought for.

Grace was taking a chance each time she entered that night club. She knew who operated it, but not the fact that Chen was Lang's brother. Family honor and a strong suspicion of distrust has Grace being kept "prisoner" in Lang's home. The story builds as both fight he feelings growing between them. Danger mounts when the Russian Bratva go after Grace. Liked the story. I wish they had let us follow Grace and Lang when she finally has the baby. It would have been nice if she had a boy and they named him after his father.

It’s was ok. The story line was good, but I wasn’t a big fan of the writing style. It wasn’t very spicy also, which is fine, but the parts that did have spice were written well. This is my first book from this author and I’m not sure that I’ll read another. It was good, just not my reading style.

Chapter 1: tf just happened?

Chapter 3: oh, it’s that kind of book.

Sorry, not for me. I’m not doing this.

I wasn't impressed with this one. The story itself didn't make much sense, and I never felt any connection between this couple. I think maybe the writing was underdeveloped, so it just didn't work for me on any level.
