Lazarus

Rate this book
Lazarus is an angry youth, wrenched from his tomb back into an unforgiving world and left there, distrusted and alone. Wasted in body and soul, he grieves bitterly for what might have been an ordinary life in his village. No one in Bethany believes what happened to him, they put it down to some trick by a magician who doesn't come there anymore...they've seen it all before, charlatans come and go. If Lazarus would just leave, everything would get back to normal. His sisters are tolerated but him...a walking corpse, frightening to look at, a remnant and good for nothing...even his mother wishes he'd just disappear. An outcast, lost in doubt, Lazarus stays out of sight for his sisters sake but finally retreats to the town dump, the only place he feels he belongs. When a terrible accident forces him to flee, he begins a dark adventure that takes him to Roman Alexandria, far away in every sense of the word. His companion throughout his journey is a dog from the dump named Anubis.
