Six + Three = Two: Life Lessons from WWII - Great Depression Era Parents to their Nine Baby Boomer / Generation X Children

Rate this book
Born between 1947 and 1967, C.D. and Lee Esther (Riggs) Floyd’s nine children were born in the following Sandra, Chris, Walter, Roy, Patricia, Marcus, Gregory, George, and Georgia. How could they have known that they would live to see the birth of the Civil Rights Movement and the death of “Separate, but Equal” Jim Crow southern segregation, the advent of the Internet, the emergence of Rock & Roll, Hip Hop and Rap, the fall of the Soviet Union, the Berlin Wall, and of Apartheid, the rebirth of the nation of Israel, Neil Armstrong piloting the Apollo 11 landing on the moon, the birth of Personal Computers, Cell Phones, Global Positioning Systems, the launching of the Hubble telescope, Amazon, Google, and W-Fi, the ubiquitous rise of social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, & Instagram, and the election of America’s first American of African descent President. Each of these sentinel moments shaped the trajectory of humanity at large, and each member of the Floyd family in uniquely profound ways. Events like WWII, Vietnam, desegregation of local schools, Desert Storm, the Voting Rights Act of 1964, Title IX, and technological advancements like E-Commerce, Online shopping, Ride Sharing, UAVs, and EVs served as the backdrop to lives of the six male and three female Floyd children. The foreground to the lives of the Floyd children were formidable and affirming, lived and vicarious life lessons passed down from their parents - C.D. and Lee Esther (Riggs) Floyd. The title was selected to reflect the genders of the nine Floyd six boys and three girls. Faith in God, respect for all humanity, and excellence of work ethic served as our core values and anchor for every life lesson handed down to us by our parents. No single manuscript could encompass all the love, wisdom, courage, compassion, hope, faith, and strength that our parents transferred to us through their words and more demonstratively through their actions, their conduct, their faith, and the content of their character. We hope that in reading this text you find inspiration and encouragement!
