I promised myself to never come back. Yet here I was, stuck in the hometown I’d run away from, sick with worry, and faced with the temptation of the most handsome stranger I’d ever met.
Fate had either the very best or very worst timing.
Still, I tried not to question it.
How could I when it put Eric Anderson in my path?
He was like my knight in shining armour. Trustworthy, steadfast, and sexy as hell. When he found me crying in a hospital stairwell, he’d been more than willing to save the day.
But the only rescuing I needed was from myself. As a single mom with a bad habit of running from my troubles, and an even worse habit of lying about it, I was a mess.
And Eric was already carrying a heavy burden on his broad shoulders—the absolute last thing he needed was me.
He got me anyway.
Oh, how he got me. Any and every which way he wanted.
When our undeniable chemistry finally boiled over, we called it a temporary distraction. A momentary reprieve. An agreement to escape from the ugly truths of our lives, and to just live in the moment.
Somehow, what was meant as a distraction turned into something more. Something real.
Now, I had a choice to make. Follow my instincts and run from the things of my past. Or leave fear behind for good, and find a new future with Eric.
One thing would hurt me…But the other? Well, the other might just break me.

Not going to lie, this one is not lighthearted romance as it revolves around illness and death and the emotions involved therein. Jamie has suffered devastating losses in the past and is currently dealing with the impending death of the father that she hasn’t interacted with in the last several years due to a heartbreaking chasm in their relationship. Meeting Caleb, a strong kid facing a health battle of his own with a grace beyond his years, helps her put things into perspective. Caleb is also the avenue to which she meets his brother with whom she shares an instant connection. There are plenty of spicy scenes but the reparation of the relationship between daughter and father and the hope of healing for a young boy are interwoven in the journey of acceptance and love between two big hearted people with finesse and care.
Eric is accompanying his young brother, Caleb who is suffering a serious illness and hospitalised. Caleb is young and charming, despite his illness. Eric is focused on keeping Caleb in good spirits and worried about the imminent treatment. Jamie had her nine year old son, Hunter, when she became pregnant aged seventeen. Forced to leave home, to forge a life for her and son alone, has made her strong willed and independent minded. Eric and Jamie have worries, concerns and hospitals in common. She has returned to visit her dying, belligerent and estranged father. Dylan, her ex and Hunter's father is vaguely in and out of the background. A lot of emotion, fears, hurt and anger, but also love and loyalty govern the dynamics of their relationship.

This book had me all in my feelings.... If you read this make sure you have some tissues handy... I loved how Jamie and Eric met. It was the cutest and funniest meet. I loved how they helped each other in such a difficult time for both of them.

This book was heart wrenchingly emotional, and it really puts your feelings into a tailspin and your heart through the wringer. If I am completely honest, this book cut right to the bone for me on an extremely personal level that often made it a challenge to read it. I'm glad I did though because in the end the struggle was well worth the swoon and feels.
If you're not in the mood for a good cry, then I wouldn't read this right now. When you are, this is the book for you. It has a great storyline, wonderful characters, good chemistry, and a nice ending. Lots of feelings with this book. I really enjoyed it. Happy reading.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Jamie and Eric. The author takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride reading their story. She paints her scenes perfectly and delivers a terrific read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
My Thoughts: This was an emotional rollercoaster ride. Eric and Jaime meet in the hospital. Jaime has gone through a bit of a traumatic upbringing with estranged ties to her father. They connect on a deep emotional level. This book isn't for the faint of heart, but I enjoyed reading their story. The author did an excellent job navigating their emotions, connections, and actions.
Jamie goes home after 10 years to see her dying father. She meets Caleb at the hospital, and he is getting a bone marrow transplant. Caleb is a 14 year old boy that spends his days flirting with pretty women; however, Caleb’s older brother Eric, finds Jamie to be beautiful as well. Jamie and Eric learn more about each other, while each going through difficult and low point moments in their lives.
This book was so cute. The banter between Eric and Jamie. The complex relationships between everyone, and how important people and family (even found) are.
