A prequel to the Garrison Chase thriller series, Fallout showcases Chase at his rawest. And finest...
When Chase discovers a shocking crime wave in Southern California is being covered up because of big money and corrupt players, Garrison Chase does what he does best: takes matters into his own hands.
Craig Hooper is the author of the Garrison Chase series. He was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. Growing up, he played lots of sports, and was an avid reader of action adventure and suspense novels. After earning a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from McMaster University, Craig left Canada and moved to Hawaii to pursue a lifelong dream of surfing.
After years of traveling and surfing, Craig settled in Southern California where he earned two masters' degrees and began adjunct teaching. While teaching part-time, he wrote his first standalone novel, a religious thriller. Though it never did get published, it spurred Craig on to keep writing.
Craig, along with his wife Janine, moved to Central California where he began work on his first book in the suspense series starring Garrison Chase. Years later, he landed a publishing contract with Endeavour Media for THE GREATEST GOOD. When Craig's not busy writing his next book in the series, you'll find him surfing or hanging out on the beach with his wife and three children.
If you’re looking for an exciting, gritty, dark, fast-paced, investigative read with a charismatic and grounded protagonist, look no further. Fallout is a superb pick.
Fallout is a prequel novella set before events of the first book by Craig Hooper. The short story sees the badass and grounded Garrison Chase, an FBI agent, investigate a series of sexual assaults perpetrated in Southern California. It just so happens that the only common aspect between all crimes is a motel chain located close-by. What some may write off as coincidence, Chase pursues following his gut feeling and his dogged and determined investigation into the matter reveals a morbid and shocking conspiracy behind the crimes. The same conspiracy that threatens to bring harm to Chase’s doorstep. What starts off as a job turns personal faster than you can blink.
Garrison Chase continues to shine as a badass and witty protagonist. While his methods are unorthodox, we see the events and feelings of turmoil and injustice that lead Chase to go down the path of operating rogue to try to achieve true justice. It’s an intriguing concept that is executed brilliantly by the author as the reader can not help but root for Chase to take matters into his own hands.
The action sequences are written with a sense of authenticity resulting in some impressive and accurate weaponry and tactics that lend heavily to the grounded vibe of the story. The final shootout is adrenaline-pumping! The use of HK MK 23 is a welcome and unique addition to the thriller genre, since the pistol isn’t as unique in the thrillers as much as Glocks and Sigs.
All in all, Fallout is an exciting and dark story with a not-so happy ending. The characters are interesting and three dimensional, each pulling his/her weight in the story to make the interactions believable and realistic. The story itself is brilliant crafted to keep the reader glued to the book to find out what happens next. Even with a short length, the book packs the same level of excitement and sheer excellence I expected from a full length Garrison Chase thriller. Be sure to give this one a read!
Fallout by Craig N. Hooper is a prequel to the Garrison Chase series and it's an ok read. Not the best I've tried but it has some promise. I sadly don't think I will continue this series mostly because I have so many others going on, no bad reflections on this author. The plot idea in this one was very interesting, how due to lack of room it becomes a money issue where to put convicted criminals. The thought that someone can make money making rooms available and not thinking about the consequences.
A prequel to the chase garrison series. This was a fast read but a really good one. I read it on Kindle.
Chase gets involved with sex crimes against children in the southern Calif area. He figures out why there are so many sex predators in a given area and works very hard to stop them from the source. Really exciting and fills in more of the background to the series.
Potboiler. Copy edit needed, and some fact checking: San Quentin is a state prison; Dublin generally houses female inmates; federal prosecutor isn’t a DA. But I turned pages all the way to the end.
Kept me intrigued throughout the whole book. Garrison Chase is a strong character. What will he be like in cyber crimes? Hmmmm... Look fwd 2 the next bk in the series.
A very fast paced story. Garrison Chase is an FBI agent who discovers a ring of predictors. He doesn’t take orders well and goes rouge. There is excitement and action The book was a fast read.
