With the loss of Samira, Jess, Denton and his mother, Nova Mitchell has used the Time-Ryder device to try to rescue them before the destruction of the planet Penithe, but instead the telepathic interface of the device has taken them off-course, and catapaulted the Oregon crew into the Colosseum in the middle of the most barbaric period of the Roman Empire. Upon arrival in the Arena, Nova, Jacq and Kara appear to have been stripped of their powers, and unable to aid their escape, until escape comes from an unexpected source in the form of a familiar face. But who is the mysterious Red Witch, what is Captain Blackthorne doing in Ancient Rome, and what caused the Oregon crew to be drawn off course and into the past..?
