Fixer Brothers Construction Co. #4

Christmas with My Best Friend's Dad

Rate this book
When I met my best friend's dad in a bar, I didn't know he was my best friend's dad. Not yet, at least.

This Christmas, I only had two to get my kitchen renovated and to find a hot older guy to keep me warm at night. I never thought I'd find both in the small town of Jade River, where people take the holiday season very seriously (and always with beer or mulled wine). I ended up in the arms of exactly the man I wanted, and we shared a scorching night under my Christmas tree that I'll never forget. ...Then reality hit. His son is my best friend, and what we did should have been forbidden. Now our lives are more intertwined than either of us ever bargained for.

But on these cold winter nights, I'm starting to think I'm addicted to him...Christmas with My Best Friend's Dad is a short novella (appx 27,000 words) and is stuffed full of holiday cheer, snow, and hot guys in scarves (and even hotter under the Christmas tree).

This was so sweet and a nice holiday novella in the Fixer Bros series. It features some of my favorite tropes - age gap and best friend's dad, and it was very sweet. Would have loved a bit more time with this couple, that's how much I enjoyed them.

I can't wait for Harlan's story.

I enjoyed the Fixer Brothers Construction series so definitely wanted to pick up this short novella set in the same small town.

The MCs are new: Casey, a 23 year old website developer for the Fixer Brothers business, and Rome, an early 40s guy who does odd jobs, including putting up Christmas decorations for small towns. They meet, get to know each other, have some fun, then realize that Rome is the father of Casey's best friend, Justin. This causes some awkwardness and Rome decides he shouldn't see Casey again.

I won't go into detail about what happens next, but this is a fairly low-angst story. Casey and Rome are concerned how Justin will view their relationship, understandably so, but of course, this being a Christmas story, things end on a positive note.

A couple things could have been better. First, Casey talks a good bit about how he wants to have an older man take control of him sexually, but in the end Casey and Rome have a fairly versatile relationship. This was disappointing as I wanted some Daddy/boy kink, even if just a little bit. Secondly, Rome feels like a "monster" because he is attracted to someone Casey's age, and to be honest, I'm really tired of this mindset that consenting adults can't be attracted to each other, regardless of the age difference. My boyfriend is 23 years younger than I am, and in our first go around ten years ago, we were approximately the age of Rome and Casey in this story. It wasn't predatory (he approached me first), there wasn't a power imbalance financially (we made approximately the same amount of income), and he wasn't some immature kid fresh out of the womb. This kind of rhetoric isn't good, because there are a lot (and I do mean a lot) of "intergenerational" relationships in the gay world. It seriously stigmatizes such relationships and there is enough of that shit going on without having to pile on about age differences.

Still, this was a cute story, maybe not super well developed because of the length, and definitely very insta (which seems to be common in Christmas stories). It's a short read, also, if anyone just needs to put away a book in the space of a couple of hours one evening. The Fixer Brothers show up a bit, as does Harlan, the bartender/brew master at Jade Distillery/Bar and the subject of the next book in the series. I enjoyed it, regardless of the caveats in the above paragraph!

Casey craves Christmas cock. That's the genesis of this short, as 23 year old Casey (who works as the Fixer Brother's website designer) tags along to the brewery. Along the way, he meets Rome, a tall, "perfectly sculpted" 42 year old that he makes out heavily with, then impulsively invites home for... adult times. Once in the door, Casey almost immediately confesses he has a Daddy Kink for someone to put him in his place, and Rome begins calling him Baby. Their good times are rudely interrupted minutes later when Rome realizes that his son, Justin, is Casey's best friend. So the two of them had never met before this, but Rome says "nope, can't do this" and leaves, despite his own overwhelm. That's the first half.

The second half is Casey and Rome agreeing never to tell Justin about their aborted hook up, but slowly gravitating to each other as friends. A few days later, for Christmas, Justin has to go out of town and asks Casey to deliver some special cinnamon rolls to his dad. One thing leads to another and everything comes out.

This was ... Bleh. The set up was incredibly forced, the sex scenes weren't great, and the dialogue was clunky. It wasn't the worst thing I've read but at least it was short.

2 stars.

This Christmas, Casey only had two goals: to get his kitchen renovated and to find a hot older guy to keep him warm at night. But on these cold winter nights, he's starting to think he's addicted to him.

This was an ok novella but I did think that some aspects of the story moved a bit fast and that needed more analysis, for example, Rome's son's easy acceptance of the relationship between Casey and Rome. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

A sweet romance with a hitch....

Casey/Case, 23, longish dark hair, blue eyes, a website specialist, a nerd, went to college with Justin.
Rome, 40s, tall, salt and pepper hair, hazel green eyes, looks like a strong lumberjack, and he owns a company that puts up decorations for Christmastime.

Our two men, Casey and Rome meet at a bar, where Rome was hanging festive outdoor lights...
They like each other right away, are lonely and decide to spend the night together.

While talking afterward, Rome realizes this is his son, Justin's BFF from college ! Now what will they do?
You will not expect the answer.

We get a terrific hot romance, a reveal, and lots of unexpected feelings.

I liked the thought filled characters, the cute story and the hot as hell sexy times.

ENJOY !

It was…OK. Not bad but not enough developed I think. We could have spend more time with them getting to know each other. As it was it never felt like it would be a tragedy if they didn’t end up together. More a “too bad/shrug/move on”

Also, too many things teased but never developed which I don’t get (Casey loves for his lover to take charge> they barely do anything that goes with it. Casey wants to call Rome “Daddy”> he does it once…)
And the “oh we can never date because you’re my son’s best friend” was very weak. There was no big reason behind it.

But the weirdest thing for me was a 23 y.o guy who had already bought a house o_O How?? 🤣

And it ends in a disappointing way where we barely see their relationship beginning without any big scene or any idea of what their future holds…

Not that I am against the older/younger storyline, but your best friend's dad? Okay, they didn't know each other before they were just too hot for each other and the deed was done before the realization happens--so--why not?

If you love your best friend and he loves you, and if your dad is happy? Again--why not?

This isn't really a Fixer Brother story, but it happens in their town and with the Fixer Brother's working on Casey's kitchen while he redoes their website.

It is innocent and fun and Ruebins does a great job of painting the picture of the two leads, so maybe it is just a hot fantasy that works--even with the all too cool son/best friend being okay with it all.

Christmas weird is fun to read.

A passionate Older-Younger relationship develops with the father of his best friend.

In this take of the Fixer Brothers, it's the story of how Case came to have a relationship with his best friend's father. Since that is the lead, the beauty of the book is the story of how it happened, how the younger-older dynamic plays out, and how the best friend and son to his romantic partner comes to find out.

Raleigh Ruebins writing mixes the Fixer Brothers' universe with comfortable and knowing characters who have been previously starred in the books. As in each case, there is a happy ending, with some angst and a lot of uncomfortable moments.

It's a great adventure and a must-read as a part of the series.

This is a fun, cute holiday short in which Casey, a younger man and web designer, and Rome, an older owner of a holiday decorating company hook up one night. They are, then, horrified to find out that Casey is the best friend of Rome's son. They both think that would be a deal-breaker for Casey's son, so they decide not to see each other again. Life has other plans and they keep getting drawn in each other's orbit. Can these two find their HEA against the odds? This low-angst short story has supportive friends, a lot of Christmas spirit, passion, and a definite hope for future love.

Christmas Gift

Casey and Rome were absolutely together. The best part about them was just how much they both loved Justin. They were willing to set aside what they both wanted to protect him. Justin was amazing in that while it shocked him a bit, he took it in stride. He didn't hold a grudge or get angry. He accepted that they just might make each other happy, which was truly all he wanted for both of them. I am glad he understands why they didn't tell him but laid out expectations for the future. It was a very cute Christmas story.

Casey & Rome

Sweet novella, the MCs meet and bond over Christmas. The attraction is real and things get hot. Neither realizes that they are connected by Justin, best friend and son. Once they realize it, they know they can’t be together. But neither one gives enough credit to Justin. He makes them realize that as weird as it is for him, he wants them happy and they are better together. Great addition to the Fixer Brothers series.

A short Christmas story

Meeting a hot sexy silver fox was what Casey always wanted and meeting him outside your favorite bar even better. Meeting a hot younger man while hanging Christmas decorations is a dream but finding out he wants you even better. Then both lives crash down when you find out that he is connected to your son and his best friend. Can life be so crude or maybe the best thing ever happened to them.

Cute and full of cheer!

Definitely a cute and quick addition to the Fixer Brothers Construction Co series!

I’ve enjoyed this series a lot. A bit corny, but when isn’t Christmas corny? Would’ve preferred more spice, too!

But I love the mountain town and all the Christmas cheer!

Fun Christmas Read

This was a short and fun Christmas read where a hot hookup turns out to be his best friend's dad and then panic ensues. These two sort of tried to put the incident in the past but they kept running into each other because of the son/best friend. They missed each other and would send each other the cutest texts.

Unexpectedly Hot and Swoony

This book was so good! It had its hot and steamy moments, but as with every book in this series, it was so sweet and swoony, too (and sometimes hilarious in the best of ways). One scene in particular had me feeling so many different things! So good. Highly recommend!

cute story

But…..without spoilers, there was a kink at the beginning of the story and then it was just forgotten……why? That is what Casey wanted and it turned Rome on too. Then poof…..they seem to have forgotten all about it at the end of the story.

It’s not taboo, just a bit weird, right?

Rome and Casey meet for the first time ever in front of the Jade Brewery. A Christmas hookup is doable and really wanted by both of these caring, sexy men. Enjoy the fun, sexy and awkward moments Rome and Casey experience this Christmas!!!

The beginning was a little slow and awkward, but it picked up and started to flow pretty well. I liked how straightforward Casey and Rome were with each other. I liked the way they respected each other‘s boundaries. And I liked the little ways they courted each other while not even realizing it.

I loved it!

Holiday reads are my jam. They’re even better when they are part of a series. It’s like checking in on past characters and getting more information on ones to come.

Casey & Rome!🎄❤️

Great story, way too short! We need another book with more details, as well as Rome and Casey meeting Justin's new girlfriend! More! More! More!!!

A cute age gap romance but not long enough to really explore the trope. I liked their story but I don’t feel like we really got to know Casey or Rome.
