Glitch #3

Glitch, Vol. 3

In investigating the strange “glitches” happening all over the town, Minato and Akira reach the center of a large forest, thought to be the source of the mysterious phenomenon. There, they witness a strange scene right before their eyes. Trees floating in midair...huge wild animals...and strange figures in gas masks. Where has Hirata been carried off to? And what is the truth behind the existence of the other world…? ?

Quick read with fairly simple (but good) art, but I admittedly have only been mildly interested in continuing this series. I’ll probably choose to stop after this one. I don’t care a whole lot about the cliffhanger at the end here.

Vast improvement over volume 2, it's really cooking now. Good exposition and great twists

It's shaping up to be just another "multi-verse" story. Multi-verse stories are much like time-travel stories; they hit the same snags and the only way to make them worth anyone's while is to have really strong world-building and equally compelling characters to suck you in and make you care -- alternate reality or no. Unfortunately Glitch has neither. I think it would have faired better as a short but fun series centred around the characters doing their investigations and discovering some pretty exciting and unusual things -- without the world being in serious danger. More magical realism than hardcore multi-dimensional stuff, but even that could've worked better if it had taken a light-hearted route (as I thought it would at one point), but it seems to want to go quite deep into that realm.

I've admired Shima Shinya's artwork since discovering Lost Lad London last year, so I was really excited and hopeful about this series, but like its predecessor I'm afraid it falls short in everything but the artwork.

I mean, it is still good, but at times the multiverse stuff just is too much. I would rather just go for spooky and glitches and see things go bump in the night, like the first volume, and in a sense the second one. It is probably also me (I am tired) but I just had to re-read things or my ADHD just glossed over things. It is still interesting at times, and I love getting more deets on what is going on, but I just wanted more scary. Not sure if I will continue.

I am thinking I might have missed reading volume 3…before reading volume 4.

That or I just can’t remember anything that happened in it haha.

Volume 4 wraps up this part of the investigation of our main characters and finds a semi ending to Hirata’s hunt for home, but don’t expect full answers to the mystery of the Glitches.

Same small town, comforting mystery vibes. Still loving it. That ending? I'm chomping at the bit but my library doesn't have the latest volume waaaaaaah!
