From cooking to alchemy to even brewing tea, Ailette Rodeline is a certifiable child prodigy thanks to her secret weapon: She’s a transmigrator! Having purchased an insurance package at the moment of her untimely end, Ailette has the perks of a top-tier support system and item shop to fall back on. And in the world of a notoriously brutal time-loop novel, she’s going to need all the help she can get―because with the hero slated for an early death, Ailette might just have to become an S-class heroine herself!
Ailette was an absolute blast to follow as a main character! I loved how rather than giving up and just accepting her fate in this new life, she genuinely did things (aka bought skill sets LOL) that would help aid her in the present and the future.
Not only that though, despite how horrible her past life was, I'm SO happy she has a new family that reminds her of Dad and brother. Maybe that's a weird thing to say, but with all the times she is supposedly supposed to die because of an "infinite" time loop, she could have done without her family and instead focused on her well-being. However she didn't do that. She genuinely cares for her family and loved that for even the brief time we saw her with them, it was so beautiful and gave me strong family-oriented vibes. Very much hope we see more of that next volume!
I LOVED the whole message system and how "Lord Voice" interacted with Ailette! There were many times I thought it was very funny as we saw their very apparent thoughts, but I was also very touched by how for being a "divine being," they were very interested in Ailette. I loved how her prayer time turned into something much deeper than just asking for her wants/needs to be met and instead, her conversing with Lord Voice as they commented and asked about her day. It felt really special, even if later on it was quite funny seeing them get in trouble with other people in the "department"! LOL!
With how the ending unfolded, I'm VERY curious as to where the story is going to go! I feel like it was a foreshadowing of sorts, BUT! Hasn't the story of the web novel now changed because of what took place? Will she be stuck in the same pattern as the original hero or will she be freed from the loop?
I'm not sure, but I would eagerly like to know, especially considering how fun this story was! In between Ailette playing "innocent," leveling up, and friendships/deeper relationships forming, I would love to keep reading! Plus, with all the bright pink everywhere, it was definitely a beautiful eye fest! LOL!
I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for an isekai that has a "younger" heroine who is witty and smart as well as having a "gaming" and dungeon aspect that is deeply influencing the story!
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I was just so hyped when I spotted this one over at Netgalley! I saw it promoted on Twitter and I just knew instantly that I would love this one and that I needed it in my life. I just LOVE a good isekai! I just love manga about characters who get a second chance at life… in a book they read. I am already thinking what book I would end up in, haha, given the variety of stuff I read? Mm, I think I would love to be part of Gail Carriger’s world!
On to this book! As is always the case, one has to die before one gets reincarnated, so that is what happens to our MC as well. But before she dies she is able to purchase the ultimate insurance package before she dies. And yes, that is apparently a thing. Though I would recommend, given where our MC ends up in, maybe not the full package? I mean, on the one hand we learn she has all sorts of cool deals and fancy stuff that she gets, but on the other hand she is in an S-Class story (and one with a loop), meaning that she is kinda screwed. All the MC wanted was just go to a normal easy story filled with family and love. I don’t blame her, she had a crappy life and you don’t want your next life to be one of trials, of possible deaths, of making sure that everything goes well.
But our MC, now known as Ailette Rodeline, is doing all she can to survive. And I guess despite landing here due to the ultimate insurance package, the insurance package is also helping her out a ton. She has access to level-ups, fancy upgrades, can buy things in the story, can activate some cool things, and oh yes, best of all and HECK I need that in this life, access to a library with ALL the books she has legally bought and read with addition bonus of all the books she is reading in this life. I mean, YES. All those fancy upgrades are good and all, but a library like this? Wins in my books (get it). I will just hide there. Haha. Plus, it solves one thing that I always had my head scratching in other books like this, people are transported to a book they know, but some of them haven’t read the book in years or cannot remember all the deets, what is next? But in this world, thanks to this upgrade you can just pick up the book and read it. Get all the deets. Make sure you get all your dates ready. Of course, it is not a fail-proof thing, because there are things NOT mentioned in the books, like what happens to Ailette at a certain point. But hey, at least you got an idea of what is going to happen.
I loved seeing Ailette try to figure out which route to take. Which loop she is in. Change how she is viewed in the eyes of others. Oh, and start a quest that leads her to make a new religion (teehee) and become the first follower of a god (whose conversations pop up at times and which I absolutely loved seeing pop up in special text bubbles). A lot of people would have possibly given up when they encounter such a difficult thing + the whole well you are going to die or x and y is going to die (aka depressing), but she just keeps going. Thinks of skills she could use and buys upgrades. She kicks some serious butt and I was so rooting for the girl.
Oh, and did I mention next to loops, death, and more there is also something else? In this world there are dungeons just popping up. Killing people. People disappearing. And oh yes, one of those is meant to appear right where Ailette and the cast is? Yup. And we get to see such a dungeon later on in the story. I won’t tell you what happens, but dang that was exciting! I was on the edge of my seat wondering how our MC would get out of this one!
There are also other people in this world, like Ailette’s brother, her alchemist dad, the countess/mistress of the house, the evil son of the mistress (who can just rot for all I care), the daughter who kept trying to make friends, but um, she is a bit different with some play stuff. I really liked the big cast of people and I loved meeting more people. I was worried at first when we met the daughter of the mistress, but she really turned out to be an OK character. I wonder if she will stay like this, I am hoping. Ailette could use a friend in all of this.
The art is so pretty and I love the designs of the characters.
All in all, let me wrap this one up because this one has gotten quite long! This was a really fun reincarnation/isekai manga and I cannot wait to read more of it! I am curious what is next for Ailette and if she will be able to beat this loop/game and get her happily ever after! I would recommend this one to all!
This full color graphic novel with the most gorgeous illustrations, made it to my favorites so fast!!! Thank you so much Yen Press, Ize Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine!!! This is a series I will be buying physical copies of too, it’s just too good and too beautiful!! I can’t wait to read the next volume which releases in August! I’m even excited just to write this review about it xd so yeah definitely a favorite I really enjoyed reading <3!
Something strange is going on in the real world.. Because of an error (the Gods are hilarious by the way and gave me Good Omens vibes!), the Gods who create new worlds, are making people’s souls transmigrate to these worlds too soon.. We follow a beautiful, smart and strong pink haired girl called Ailette, who used to be a woman with an awful life :’(, when she ends up in one of these worlds. I honestly got a little emotional when I saw her finally having a loving family there <3. She’s the daughter of a servant (an alchemist) at a mansion but ooofff there are some awful characters there too.. Like some of the other servants and the Duke’s son. And there are mysteries (like how can she help the actual protagonist to save the world :o) and there also might be a dungeon with demons developing under the mansion... The daughter of the duke was great tho, she reminded me of Wednesday!! Ailette does get some skills from the Gods which make her popular with some and envied/hated by others and she might also accidentally start a religion :’D worshipping one of the funny Gods. Okay I think I told enough. This is a strong, funny and super engaging story in the most beautiful packaging!
In the dazzling world of light novels, "The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine" by IRINBI and Grrr shines brightly as a stellar example of the genre's best offerings. With an irresistible blend of fantasy, humor, and heart, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves a compelling tale of resilience and ingenuity.
From the very first page, we are introduced to Ailette Rodeline, a character who is as charming as she is formidable. Ailette's unique status as a transmigrator—someone who has been transported into another world with memories of their previous life—adds a fresh twist to the familiar trope. Armed with an insurance package that provides her with a top-tier support system and item shop, Ailette navigates the perilous world of a notoriously brutal time-loop novel with grace and determination.
What sets Ailette apart is her prodigious talent in a myriad of skills, ranging from cooking and alchemy to brewing the perfect cup of tea. These abilities are not just superficial traits; they are integral to her survival and success in this new world. IRINBI does an exceptional job of weaving these skills into the narrative, making them feel both authentic and essential.
The novel's world-building is rich and immersive, drawing readers into a setting that is as dangerous as it is enchanting. The stakes are high, and the challenges Ailette faces are both daunting and thrilling. Yet, despite the adversity, Ailette's spirit never wavers. Her determination to rise to the challenge and prove herself as an S-class heroine is both inspiring and relatable.
IRINBI's writing is both engaging and witty, with a pace that keeps readers hooked from start to finish. The dialogue is sharp, the action scenes are well-crafted, and the moments of introspection add depth to Ailette's character. The book masterfully balances humor and drama, creating a reading experience that is both entertaining and emotionally satisfying.
One of the most delightful aspects of the book is Ailette's growth as a character. She is not infallible; she makes mistakes and learns from them, which makes her journey all the more compelling. Her interactions with other characters are nuanced and add layers to the story, enriching the narrative tapestry.
In conclusion, "The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine" is a tour de force in the world of light novels. IRINBI and Grrr has crafted a story that is not only captivating and fun but also meaningful and inspiring. Ailette Rodeline is a heroine for the ages, and her adventures are sure to leave a lasting impression on readers. Whether you're a fan of fantasy, adventure, or simply a great story well told, this book is a gem that deserves a place on your bookshelf.
Aliette Rodeline is not the name she was born with, but thanks to her untimely death, it's the name she now has! Luckily for Aliette, she invested in this weird afterlife package before she died, so she was able to set herself up quite nicely in the next life.
Now, she's becoming a prodigy, which might just give her the chance to turn her life around. For she knows that, without a change, her second life will be doomed to an early demise. After all, she's read this book, and her character was dead before the events began!
Review:
I love diving into new fantasies, and lately, I've been on an isekai kick. Thus, I was happy to find The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine Vol. 1. I've actually read a bit of this one already (on Tapas, I believe), but it was nice to have a whole volume in my hands.
Like a lot of isekai (that I've been reading, at least), Aliette's previous life was tragic, even before she had that final tragedy. So this is more than a second life – it's a second chance. Her story has the potential to get superpowered, which could be great, or it could possibly go overboard. Only time will tell on that front.
I really enjoyed seeing the early adventures in this new world for Aliette, especially pertaining to her family and the small drams she's faced thus far. It'll be interesting to see what happens next.
Ailette Rodeline, a child prodigy with a secret weapon as a transmigrator, faces a brutal time-loop novel. With an insurance package, she needs help to survive and prove herself an S-class heroine, despite her top-tier support system and item shop.
First of all, the illustrations were stunning! This, alone, caught my eye. I was not too familiar with portal world manga, but this story does a pretty good job for a noob like me. The story was easy to follow and I'm genuinely interested in picking up the next volume.
Thank you to NetGalley and Yen Press | Ize Press for the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
I really enjoyed this one! It's so cute and the storyline was not at all predictable - to me at least. I love the main character, she's strong, smart and a quick thinker, plus she cares about helping people who need it. The concept of a woman dying before her time in real life, then transmigrating to a different world/story thanks to a strange life insurance policy and having to survive in that new story is a lot of fun. It's like she's living in a videogame where she becomes a young girl and is able to purchase skill sets with her life insurance payout and level up with experience. The "gods" there are entertaining and unique and I like that she's brought into a family where she has a father and brother who love her because she didn't have anyone left in her real life. I was fully immersed in this story and the artwork is gorgeous, with lots of bright colors and very clear images. The story flowed seamlessly from panel to panel and was easy to follow. It's definitely a great choice for anyone who's looking for an adventure story or a story with a strong female lead. It's a quick, fun read that I highly recommend and I can't wait for the next volume!
Thanks so much to Yen Press | Ize Press for the digital ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This volume will be published May 21, 2024 so keep an eye out!
In The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine, Vol. 1, our main character gets killed, but just prior to her death purchases a life insurance policy. In her world, once you die, you transmigrate into a story. She gets stuck in a time loop story, but due to her life insurance policy, is able to level up and gain a ton of money right away. She utilizes her purchased skills to create success in this new world.
The story reminded me of your classic level up type manga. The main character has to keep gaining experience to progress. It's humerous though because the main character Ailette can just purchase all the power ups, making her overleveled.
I thought the artwork was unique in that the main girl looked more like your typical manga character (big eyes, bright colors), where the background characters had almost a different style (more toned down colors and less prominent features). It was really well done, and I loved the style and color palette. I thought the way the panels were ordered made the story clear to read and understand. However, some panels seemed to be blank, like there should have been words there but they were forgotten. These looked like blank white rectangles or ovals that often showed up in the corner of other panels. I'm wondering what they are supposed to say, and also hoping this gets fixed before the book is released. It seemed like I was missing information or story text from the blank panels. There were also a few panels that were blurred, but it didn't seem like it was due to a stylistic choice-it seemed unintentional and I hope these get fixed as well.
Overall the story was enjoyable. I think this would be great for teens and adults. You will like this if you enjoy level up stories with overpowered main characters. 4/5 stars
Thank you so much to netgalley and Yen Press for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Omg I've fallen in love with this manhwa series! I'm a huge fan of isekai stories and time loops and this one had all of my favorite elements and more! Allie is such a cute and lovable FMC who works so hard even though she's gotten many perks! I love her relationship with her family and friends! And her interactions with the 'Lord gods' are so adorable! I mean if I were one of them I'd give her all of these privileges too haha. Also, because of this manhwa I've made a mental note to buy a transmigrator's insurance package if the opportunity ever pops up. We never know when one might need it hahaha!
Thank you NetGalley and Yen Press for a copy of this wholesome manhwa. I loved this one so much! I think any reader would love this. Which book do you belong to in your afterlife? That is what happens to our protagonist who is a lover of romantasy, when after her death she gets thrown into an action packed dungeon fantasy world. I know for a fact I’d never survive in any of the books I read, so I cannot wait to see what other adventures await Ailette next!
i really loved reading this!! the main character is so interesting to read about, but i feel like i still need a bit more time to get into the story. while it did grip my attention after the first 10 chapters, it wasn't enough for me to read it over 3 stars yet. i do plan to continue this manhwa now though because i'm definitely intrigued!!
thank you to netgalley and yen press for the arc!!
Love a good ol Mary Sue in the form of an isekai manhwa lol. It was entertaining, even though I usually hate the kiddie ones. When will she be an adult!!!!!
Finally got to reread one of my favorite manhwas EVER! 🤍 This was just as adorable as I expected it to be and I’m excited for where the story is headed
The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine Vol. 1 Art by Grrr, Story by Irinbi Rating: 5/5 stars Pub Date: May 21, 2024

Ok, I seriously loved this. I have been in bit of a down with my book selection lately and this one was absolutely fantastic. It feels like a truly innovative take on the isekai genre, which if you follow my reviews you will know I am notoriously critical of. There are just so many places an isekai story can fail and so many ways to feel too derivative of the tropes of the genre. But this book here takes so many of the tropes and adds a fresh new spin to them in a way that feels truly refreshing. I particularly loved how it handles the interaction between the protagonist and the gods that sent her to this new world, it is a surprisingly key part of the plot where other stories would just brush it aside, and it adds an interesting layer to the dynamics of this world.
In addition to that, I found all of the characters to be great. This first volume does a great job of laying out the people we are going to be following in the future and gives everyone a solid foundation to grow from while still leaving room for more characters to be added in ad we progress in the story. This is one where I’m pretty sure we ar going to follow the MC for many years as she develops her powers and takes control of her destiny and I can’t wait to see who all we meet along the way to do that.
I also want to take a moment to shower the art in here with the utmost praise. It is beautiful. I love the fashion choices, the background choices, and the stylized way of speaking to the gods. There is a great distinction between the new world and the old world and everything inbetween in clearly telegraphed through the art. You wouldn’t think this was important to mention, but let me assure you I’ve read books without these things and let me tell you you notice them when they are gone so appreciate them when they are done well.
Just overall a super strong first volume that shows so much promise for this series. Definitely pick this one up to regain some faith ion the isekai genre.
First of all I would like to apologise to the publisher, artist, and story writer, because I did read this wonderful story but for some reason did not remember to leave the due feedback until just now. "The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine" is a cute, incredibly fun and lovely-to-look-at first installment in a YA manhwa series with child prodigy Ailette as the main character, whose incredible track record with cooking, tea-making and even the lost art of alchemy comes from her being a "transmigrator", Since she's aware of her quickly-approaching fate, Ailette decides that she's not going to sit around and dwell on her misery when she could try to change things - which is exactly what she does!
Something I always look forward to in stories is the found family trope, since I genuinely believe that we are becoming increasingly lonely and could always use a reminder that your family doesn't end, or even start, with blood - instead it's the people who love you fiercely. In this manwha Ailette finds a new family despite how potentially painful it might be to lose them later, since she's stuck in a time loop and thus fated to part ways with them time and time again, and I was FERAL about the way they loved each other and cared so much even if they weren't meant to stay together for long. Hopefully we'll keep getting that in future additions to the story, because I thought it was really well done and executed in a beautiful way!
Another aspect I loved to see was the gaming-like vibe to the story and art, since it felt really upbeat and made me happy. There was something wholesome about TPOBASCS that just made me smile really often as I turned the pages, which is most definitely a good sign! Gotta love me so much pink, teehee. The ending most definitely piqued my interest, because the premise regarding the time loop plus the little details that have been dropped here and there regarding where the story might go next were really intriguing, and I'll make sure to keep reading the series!!
