In a remote town dwells a man single-mindedly devoted to the slaughter of goblins―a man known as Goblin Slayer. Sharp as his focus may be, he cannot help but subtly influence the adventurers who come and go, changing and growing around him…
Club Fighter (formerly Rookie Warrior), Supreme God’s Cleric (formerly Apprentice Cleric), and Harefolk Hunter form a new party to take on new challenges―only to discover there are some enemies they can’t hope to defeat! Meanwhile, Priestess joins Female Knight, Witch, and High Elf Archer in an impromptu party and finds herself defending a besieged fortress from an unknown menace…
Nothing particularly innovative. Somewhere between Zelda and Dragon Slayer. The characters are the usual: knights, elves, goblins, witches, and their adventures by now, we all know them.
Niente di particolarmente innovativo. Una via di mezzo tra Zelda e Dragon Slayer. I personaggi sono i soliti: cavalieri, elfi, goblin, streghe e le loro avventure ormai, le conosciamo tutti.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
The Goblin Slayer series has always been a bit controversial with the Goblins being viscous reproduction maniacs requiring other species to make new goblins often resulting in partial nudity and some horrible scenes. However the world where these monsters reside is not always grim though it can be dangerous and is populated by more then just the titular main character which is why I enjoy these little side manga showing the lives of those who help keep the darkness at bay while the gods above play. However the manga is also set in the future of the series at parts (like the first chapter takes place after the 9th light novel and when Priestess is a sapphire ranked adventurer) so there may be characters you don't know about or possible spoilers for people only recently starting this series.
Things I really enjoyed about this book are the usual Role Playing Game references and Priestess's unexpected answer in the riddle contest while the only thing I really found annoying is when Club Fighter is fighting Goblins his shield switched arm back and forth in the fight but honestly it is a minor issue that was easy to miss as the gore flew. :)
Makes a bit more sense if you're familiar with the original Goblin Slayer cast; this book is based on Volume 9 of the light novel series, and it's all side characters. The designs and adventures are fun!
This spinoff adapts Volume 12 of the Goblin Slayer LN, which is a collection of short stories. If you enjoyed Brand New Day and you like the characters of Goblin Slayer, you'll have a good time.
