Nursing a broken heart days before her cousin wedding leaves Aurora questioning her worth. It's a good thing her best friend has her best intentions at heart. While on this trip, they encounter miscommunication of their lips. What happens at the reception indeed stays at the reception, right?
Well, Malcolm has been in love with his best friend for over a decade. While her ex tries to sneak his way back into her heart, he takes his chance. Will their forbidden relationship be tested during the holiday, or will they return to being friends for a happily ever after?
This holiday novella is a slow-burn story, packed with tense moments, laughter, desire, and lots of fall festivities.
S. Cassadera, a talented author, hails from Georgia where her creative spirit ignited early on. Fueled by a love for reading, she embarked on her writing journey. Currently signed with Major Key Publishing, she has made a significant impact with her novels. Her novel “The Predatory Pastor” soared to the top of Amazon’s Black & African American Christian bestseller list, captivating readers with its gripping narrative. Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing: Amazon’s #1 New Release, this book further solidified her reputation as a master storyteller. In addition, it received an honorable mention in the Los Angeles Book Festival '22, celebrating her contribution to contemporary literature. Other works topped #3 New Release for Her Plus One: A Thanksgiving Romance and #1 New Release for Faking It For The Holidays '24.
The books kicks off with Aurora experience yet another break up and while it caught her off guard, deep down she expected it. Marshon decided to end their three year relationship because he felt he could not compete with the relationship Aurora had with her “bestie” Malcolm. Listen Marshon, why did it take you 3 years to figure out what I saw in 30 seconds😩😩?!? And to add insult to injury, Aurora called Malcolm to “nurse her broken heart” right in front of Marshon 🥴 did you get Will Smithed my boi?!
Malcolm has always known that Aurora was the one. Since college their friendship blossomed into one of the deepest bonds that these two have experienced. It’s clear to everyone around them that they love each other but stubbornness has gotten the best of them so they don’t allow themselves to embrace the feelings they have to take things to the next level.
The friends to lovers trope is one of my favorites even with the tricky love hate aspects that I grapple with. On the one hand the foundation is set and you already have the bond and evident chemistry between the characters but the way they deny each other and play with other peoples feelings in the process grinds my gears and this was no different with Malcolm and Aurora. These two irked my whole soul because who were y’all trying to convince. The did everything people in relationships do sans the sex. Malcolm was so attentive to Aurora’s needs and anticipated EVERYTHING when it came to her. 🗣️SO WHY ARE YALL NOT TOGETHER?! I will never understand the whole “I don’t want to ruin the friendship” spiel that we get with F2L because unless the sex is trash what are you really ruining?!
The author warned us that this was a slow burn but considered the fact that it was a novella it didn’t feel like it. I wish we got more of the “romance” aspect from the two and actually got to see them as a couple once they stopped fighting their feelings. The breast cancer benefit scene was unnecessary in my opinion. Marshon was a non mf factor so for him to resurface in the way that he did and the way Aurora went along with it didn’t seem natural. I also wouldn’t classify this as a thanksgiving romance because we got thanksgiving for 5 minutes of the book. I expected that to be the focal point of the entire story but it was merely included in a collective of events, a wedding, a harvest festival (seemed like Halloween) a gala, and then thanksgiving dinner. Lastly the book felt too wordy with a lot of paraphrasing and description. I would have enjoyed more dialogue between the characters. This was my first book by S. and I enjoyed the foundation of the story enough to read more from her in the future.
Breakups are always hard, but right before a holiday is the worst! Aurora knew that Marshon wasn’t it, but it still hurt the way he broke it off. So, what does she do, call her bestie, Malcolm to save the day.
Malcolm is head over heels for Aurora and has been playing his position as her best friend, because he is too afraid to tell her his true feelings. During the Colorado trip, I thought he would man up, but nope! By not doing so, it put them into a more strained situation. Ughhh….. 😡
Now Aurora. Girl, if you called Malcolm bestie one more time, I was gone do my best to find something to knock you over the head with! 🤬 You and them damn repressed feelings for Malcolm, had you riding that friend train til the wheels fall off! I’m yelling at her, stop being a punk and get yo man! Just tell him! Malcolm was no better! He tried to allow her to take the lead, as he wanted to consider her feelings, but it was on the road to nowhere!
These two were stubborn I swear, but Malcolm finally had enough, and was like I want all or nothing! Cute friends to lovers read, although they raised my pressure, and gave me a headache! 🤯
Malcolm and Aurora have been friends since college, best friends…
Rory’s boyfriend Marshon refuses to believe they are “just friends”. She calls Mal for everything. Yet, Marshon never shows up for her in thr ways that matter. During a trip to CO to attend a wedding, things began to change. After their return, it’s awkward. Even when they spend time together as friends the tension is there.
I finished the book but wanted to stop about 70% of the way through. I don’t know why Mal put up with Aurora. She was childish and she put Marshon above him. Her having Marshon show up at his work even pmo so bad. But still he hung on until he got his girl. Good for him.
This book was recommended in the back of Shanika’s Roach last book. The authors foreword was that if you love Hallmark movies, you will love this story. I hate Hallmark movies. They are soooo white with just one black person added to say they have progressed. They are also boringly predictable. This story is not that. I’m glad I did not put it down because I really enjoyed this story and how these two best friends came to understand their true feelings for each other.
A good story with likeable characters. The storyline is cute and a good one for Thanksgiving. I loved reading this story and the title definitely describes the story within.
I absolutely loved Rory and Mal's friends to lovers story. The story was so sweet and peaceful. I love the friendship foundation they built prior to crossing the line. The ending was definitely a surprise but I would not have it any kind of way.
This could've been really good. To me, though, it read just like someone recalling stuff that happened more than it felt like an actual story. There were a lot of random or insignificant details about things that added nothing. I didn't get 'slow burn' or 'fall/Thanksgiving' story from this at all. Aurora's ex attending the function with her made no sense. It just didn't flow well, overall. Malcolm was portrayed as a idealistic, uber-patient man and Aurora was the woman with all the relationship fears and hangups to the point where it almost seemed silly...it's so common but can still be entertaining if done well, and unfortunately this just wasn't for me.
I absolutely love the stories written by my sis, S. Cassandra. Malcolm won! I was so happy for him. It was good to read about a man receiving the desires of his heart. I loved their friendship. The author really brought out their chemistry. I enjoyed the entire storyline! Great job, Sis.
(2.5) This is a nice love story but not my preferred trope. This book is great for those that enjoy a friends to lover trope. Great for those that also want a book with the fall feelings.
