Shadow Slave: Demon of Change

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Shadow Slave Chapter 183 - Learning New Tricks - WebNovel
Atmosphere & World‑building: The volume immerses readers in a haunting and oppressive world filled with surreal landscapes and lurking threats. The contrast between the bleak Forgotten Shore and the structured Bright Castle brings depth to the world, while mysterious structures and environments enhance the lore.
Steam Workshop::Shadow Slave - Mongrel
Plot Structure & Pacing: The story unfolds over numerous chapters, blending action, exploration, and introspection. While some parts are slower—particularly during flashbacks and training arcs—they build necessary tension and character insight, culminating in a powerful climax that rewards patient readers.
25#--Shadow Slave Chapter 1953-2150 PART 25 | Patreon
Character Development: Sunny’s transformation remains a highlight. His evolution from a reactive survivor to a more strategic and emotionally aware protagonist is handled with nuance. Supporting characters like Nephis, Cassie, Kai, and Effie also gain emotional weight, each facing their own challenges that feel authentic and earned.
Taijinn Boruto | Naruto Fanon Wiki | Fandom
Emotional Impact & Themes: Themes of isolation, sacrifice, loyalty, and moral ambiguity are deeply explored. The final sections deliver a powerful emotional blow, driven by pivotal decisions and complex relationships. Readers often find themselves reflecting on the characters' choices long after finishing the volume. Criticisms: At times, the narrative slows down more than necessary, and certain story resolutions can feel a bit too convenient. The serialized nature occasionally leads to repetition. These minor flaws, however, do not undermine the story's overall strength. Strengths: Rich, immersive fantasy world Deep, evolving character arcs Emotionally powerful conclusion Weaknesses: Slow pacing in parts Occasional plot conveniences Repetitiveness due to serialization
“Never have I ever had my heart so thoroughly shattered… Yet, I couldn’t be mad at Cassie or Neph.”

Final Thoughts: Volume 2 is the emotional and thematic heart of the series. Though its pacing may challenge some readers, the character growth, layered world-building, and a heartbreaking finale make it a standout. For those willing to engage deeply, it offers one of the most satisfying arcs in modern progression fantasy.

Good fucking lord! This is straight-up garbage. A dogshit shounen protagonist with zero character development over the course of ~400 chapters? Color me surprised.

The protagonist, Sunless aka Sunny, is depicted as a mature survivalist who outsmarts his enemies, but turns into a bumbling idiot the second a woman enters the picture. I can't stand the virgin MC trope; it's so overdone and lazy.

Somehow this garbage is being compared to the likes of RI and LotM. It's written well, sure, but the content is utterly lacking. It's literally scraping the bottom of the barrel that is progression fantasy and the PF community has their heads so far up their asses they can't see the shit on the page.

I would give this a -1 if I could.

This is the best one you should read it’s like dark fantasy but without the 18+ stuff that’s weird. It’s like a childish but super duper scary and the world is hella interesting so I like it with a really really good plot twist

I enjoyed this volume a lot that's why I'm giving this 4.5 stars. If I have to compare this volume to any media that it reminds me of, the closest that comes to mind is the TV series Game of Thrones. Every tropes that I love from the show I can also draw parallel here, coming of a saviour to a desolate lands to save the people from a tyrannical ruler, civil war, epic quest to become stronger, political assasination, warring factions, the wall that separates the people from monsters beyond, and many more. Also, the final showdown reminds me heavily of the showdown in the show. So... yeah, to say the least, I really like the story in this volume. If I have to nitpick a particular thing that throws me off it will be Cassie's vision. Because for me it's too straight-forward, that me a as reader could deduce what the vision really is, which in turn, when the vision is happening you feel like you already figure what is happening. I like visions that is hard to figure out because fate is hard to understand iykwim. But that's just me. In the end, everything still works out fine.

so much better than the first volume by every metric. i still have my gripes with the writing and various story decisions (harus, caster, etc.), but overall, it's such a fun read!

most of my issues, beyond a few story choices that fell flat for me, is that the writing felt a little too amateurish at times. which is fine! it IS an amateur work, which adds to its charm for me as i watch Guiltythree grow as a writer with each chapter, but oh my god if i see the word "cohort" one more time or see a character be described as "indifferent" i am going to lose my MIND.

however, i tend to rate things based on a combination of enjoyment and quality, and the enjoyment i had while reading this heavily outweighed any issues with the quality. that final stretch of the volume (the last 50 chapters or so) was so thrilling and left me desperately wanting to read more!

ch. 95-350

It throws you off with switching time lines but beyond that it goes straightforward.

Plot, themes, etc. nothing new neither crafted exceptionally yet it was hooking. At least the setup and build up paid off. It's not subtle if you ponder about it as most things are obvious or told in a direct way. Perhaps that there is no padding made them obvious and hard to forget.

The last chapters were just brutal. Sadly Cassie goes unexplored when she also suffered mentally as Nephi and Sunny. Yet both of them carried mlre than the weight of knowledge.

I'm unsure of continuing as the story so far is unfinished. This arc was great for a web novel. I've yet to read other acclaimed web novels though.

There's many kinds of books in fiction.
There are well-cooked, whole food, homemade meals like Dune, GoT, Re;zero, etc which are rare and truly a delightful- even intellectual experience.
There's junk food with the trans-fats, fructose, MSG, god knows what else like badly translated wuxia webnovels or some crap from wattpad.

And then there's this. The healthy alternative of the junk food which is still as delicious without many of the xeno-chemicals or such found in the normal junk food. Yet it doesn't solve the problem that it still hijacks your brain (perhaps to a lesser degree) and mesmerises you.

The book is good! Highly suggest reading it. Contained ch-95 to ch-350

Book 1 and book 2 serve as one long running saga, the Forgotten Shore. However, this book is much longer than the previous one, I felt that it had overstayed its welcome for quite a bit. It's still a solid arc, and the ending was good although predictable. I was hoping that the author was bold enough to break away from the cliche and write defiant story, but alas, predictable it is.

I predicted that this book would focus internally at Nephis and Cassie, so I'm half wrong. This book is all about Nephis and Cassie was barely mentioned at all. So, I guess we are gonna see that in book 3?

Score: 3.9/5

The forgotten shore… One of the best Arcs of a series I ever read, if not the best. The concept of the dark sea and the sun was ever unique and special. The characters felt so alive to me and they even made me laugh quite a bit. Especially Effie and Sunny’s interactions.

What makes the conclusion of The Forgotten Shore so good was definitely the ending and Nephs and Sunny’s relationship throughout the arc.

Hands down the best story I've ever read.

What I love most about this is how everything is balanced/fair.
The humor is fantastic, the characters (even the random side characters) have distinctive feelings, thoughts and personality, not to mention the character growth and interactions.
The storyline is fabulous, nice balance between action and (sort of peaceful) life.

Simply brilliant.

This volume concludes the forgotten shore, one of if not the best first arcs in a book I’ve read. It had absolutely everything, I laughed, I cried and I was blown away by every action sequence. I don’t usually read that many web novels but this one right here is amazing.

I finished this in the span of 2 days but this was genuinely in amazing arc the foreshadowing since the very beginning, happening in a sense that I felt me with baited breath and the conclusion was left me wanting more.

At first weirded out by the whole 3 months later thing but it got to me, the battle for the dark city and finally crimson spire was so good, caster fight was crazy good and THEN CHANGING STAR, WITH HER VILE MOVE OF USING HIS TRUE NAME ON THE END? NAHHH IT WAS SO VILE BUT ALSO SO PERFECT

4.5 stars. The beginning was kinda dull as they were explaining things through a flashback but once you get through that part, it introduces you to the whole new world of awesomeness. The ending was incredible for this volume.

it’s such a good web novel but gosh how i wish the author knew better how to write romance…
everything about sunny and nephis together seems so wrong and awkward. both of them separately are amazing, but when there is a slight hint of something between them it just feels forced. 💔

a história evoluiu demais em comparação com o primeiro.
Não tem necessidade de ser tão longe.
Mas é muito bom, interessante e de deixar o coração na boca
