Homebuilding Basics: Carpentry is the essential manual for anyone who isn't fortunate enough to have a carpentry teacher as wise and knowledgeable as Larry Haun. With close to 50 years of production framing experience, Haun offers newcomers to the trade smart ways to build efficiently, accurately, and safely. It's the only current book with complete coverage of basic carpentry techniques. Beginning carpenters, vocational teachers, and homeowners will find step-by-step instructions, clear illustrations, color photographs, and drawings on every aspect of building.
Tremendous resource for a beginner. I gave it 5 stars because it felt like a firehose of terms and experience that were honestly tough to digest in bulk like this. If I were a professional carpenter or pretty much anyone in construction, this book is an asset to have.
This book has great coverage of framing a house while still being accessible to the beginner. It includes a chapter on basic stair installation that is very detailed. it concludes with a chapter on finish work including doors, windows, siding, and trim. The bulk of the book is dedicated to framing. He does not get into finish work in much detail. Overall a fantastic book that greatly increased my understanding of carpentry and what goes into building a house.
