It is with a heavy heart that I'm writing this review 💔💔because I love the Speed Demons series. SNOW and Breaker are among my top 10 best read in 2023🌟
I must say that I went into this book with high expectations after the emotional turmoil that was BREAKER. And maybe it is partially my fault for doing that. I had to stop reading after 30% and reassess how to continue.
For me, there were two major problems with one outweighing the other. The story itself and the characters mainly Freya.
The Story
It went no where tbh. Over 500 pages, which is an overdose for a romance book, and you do not know what the aim of the story is!🤔
Freya and Colt has a connection. This is clear. They were meant for each other, ok? And? Where is the intensity? The drama? The obstacles? Nothing made sense.
One minute Colt was 0 then he was driving 180 km/ page
One page he doesn't know if he loves Freya, the next he says I love you!!
It wasn't until the last 100 pages that something happened and another thing which added nothing to the story
At one point, I thought we'd see Colt handling the FBI, I was excited for that! But nothing! The only thing we learn is that he enlisted to save the club!
Was it about inner club conflicts and absurd rules? Like imagine a father who loves his daughter so much that he neglects her, forces her away, forbids anyone from his club to have a relationship with her, doesn't see her worth and then she has the audacity to fall in love with a member so what does the asshole do? He calls her a whole, cuts her off, confiscated her stuff, and practically disowns her! All in the name of fatherly love
There were so many unnecessary family scenes that I think were supposed to add humor to the story, but I found myself skipping them. I mean, I was irrated with a kid, for God's sake!
And Bowie and Layla?! I DNFed their book, and this one did not earn them any credit.
the characters
Colt was a manipulative SOB. I'm sorry but he was. He is the text book standard of a narcissistic groomer
"“I was drawn to you from day one."
You mean when she was 12 and you were 24??????😵💫😵💫
The way he treats Freya is unacceptable. The way he talks to her, discards her feelings, doesn't acknowledge her needs! But hey, he bought her a 300k car, that should shut her up!
The only way he accepted his feelings for her is because he knew he's leaving the club.
But hey, this is the thing you would expect from an ex-military turned MC members.
But Freya! She's the epitum of everything I never want to see in a woman or raise my daughters to be. She allowed everyone to manipulate her life and choices. She basically handed herself on a silver platter for Colt to do whatever he wanted. Her friend had more spine than her.
Check this out "You’ve disrespected me tonight, and it’s made me wonder if I’ve been very wrong about you.” He let out an angry snort. “Likewise, bitch.”
So how does she respond to that? She accepts his pathetic apology because "In a way, I’d molded myself into Colt’s ideal woman, watching and learning about what he valued in the opposite sex. It was apparent he liked intelligence first and foremost. He usually went for naturally pretty girls, though he also liked a woman who could dress up and turn heads."
She admits that she allowed herself to be what he wanted to be
Same like she allowed her father to do
Colt just kept hitting her with cruel words and she took him back everytime because he made her, a 24 year old virgin, sqirt💦
I think it's women like these who allow men to step on them for their pleasure.
And when the shit hit the fan, Colt didn't lose anything basically, while Freya almost lost all her family, he left her to go deal with his real family! Says a lot about a man who supposedly said that you are his whole life
I wished she left him for a bit. I wished she joined Doctors without borders for example like he left her!
So why did she judge Layla for sticking with her man when she did the same!
Overall, this book shouldn't be 500+ pages long
More important plotlines should have been the focus
Stone does not deserve forgiveness or a redemption book
I'm looking forward for the new MC Chapter books though. Just let's hope we get more Cara and Kennedy, and less Layla and Freya
