Eight.

That was what he called me. I didn’t have a name. I wasn’t a person. I was a number. I was just the next in his sequence of kills.

But he didn’t kill me. He set me free and he told me to run.

That’s what I’ve been doing for these last months. Running. Surviving. Fighting just to breathe through this new hell I find myself in.

Then it’s on the news. They found numbers seven and nine. The number killer has struck again.

Realizing I should be there with those two girls, dead and mutilated in the woods, makes me realize I have to stop surviving and find a way to live.

I want my life back. I have parents who love me, brothers who will be tearing the world apart to find me, and a career I worked damned hard to earn, but he has taken it all from me with his threats and the terror he has instilled so deeply within me, I can’t even begin to fathom how to get it out again.

He let me go, but fear is still holding me prisoner.

Can I ever find the strength to stand up for, not only myself, but the ones who came in the sequence both before and after me? Can I find the strength to stop him before he finds number ten?

Just when it feels as if I’m losing the fight to keep breathing, four guys stumble into my life at the most unlikely of times. I feel a connection with each of them like I’ve never known before, but will it be enough when the truth comes out? Can I keep them safe when the number killer decides he’s not quite finished with me just yet?

This a reverse harem romance, which means the FMC will end up with more than one love interest. It is intended for readers ager 18 years +

my skill at starting unfinished series with cliffhangers is truly unparalleled…

anyway, this was entertaining as hell. it’s a bit “romance cures mental health problems”, but look, it was trashy fun. i at least found the fmc’s recovery slightly more realistic because she knew one of the mmcs before her traumatic experience, and i actually didn’t think her recovery was ridiculously fast this time, which i appreciated. addictive guilty pleasure!

3.5 for me - the story is good and i like the slow burn but…

needs to be edited ‘cause there are some spelling mistakes as well as wrong names (it’s Boko Haram and not Harem)

another point that didn’t necessarily put me off but this book’s in a weird format?

anyway… yeah.

After DNF'ing the duet this one follows I went into this warily. While I did make it through I must admit the struggle was REAL. Not only is the writing in need of some serious editing the characters and plot come off as ridiculous. Once again there's this false reality that the characters are all scarred but just perfect humans who can do no wrong. The heroine claims to be a smart but ever so easily gets herself kidnapped in a very avoidable way. The sad thing is I love a good damsel in distress situation when it's done well but this needs some help. Of course the end has her getting kidnapped by her serial killer stalker again and I'll admit the cliffy is making me want to go on just for closure. What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment.

Lord, someone please save me from ginormous info dumps that take up the first five pages of a story. DNF, very amateurish writing style and lots of errors already in the first chapter. Could definitely use an editor to help smooth it out.

I know this has been highly reviewed, and was recommended to me too and I don't understand how I just couldn't enjoy it when others did so much.
Bit disappointed, after being with someone for years and being engaged too, I expected more angst, heartbreak and emotion from the FMC after breaking up. Even if someone cheated on you, after all those years and plans together you would feel some grief for the loss of those dreams and that life. But all she seemed to care about is "I told you so" from her family and that she found out before getting married. Ultimately being married is just a legal thing...you are still in the same relationship whether you are married or not and should still feel something, other than what only seems like mild annoyance, when that ends.
I also don't get why the author skipped the whole traumatic period when the FMC was taken. I know we get flashbacks after it happens, but it just doesn't feel the same. It felt like I missed a load of emotions and moments where we would have connected with the FMC through it.
The varying POV through the side characters felt odd as well, not a format I am used to nor really liked. I would have rather spent it with the MCs. I didn't need to know about one of the side characters being in the gym, talking to their kids and finding out about the FMC disappearance. It would have worked better being from the POV of the FMC where she was taken and the emotions she went through waking up.
There are also details and thoughts that are repeated, and that just made me skim read parts.
Also felt like there was a lot of focus and reference to another series and their MCs, which took away from this. I understand that the series are connected and characters are in both, but the POVs from the other series characters and that the FMC mentions them a lot and their stories it just detracted from it a bit. I didn't read the other series, but still can understand the summary of their story without it keep being mentioned.
It didn't actually feel like there was a lot of dialogue in this, and most of it was inner monologues from the varying MCs POVs, so again I skimmed parts so I could get to the plot or dialogue.

I love this just like te other series and the cross overs as well

Absolutely love this author. I've read pieces of us series the mililite series and now this one where the character intertwine. I hope we get where we see the family and them together as well. I wod seriously would of like it better if they moved where her family was so they could all be together. The one thing I'd say I'd disagree with the writer on is saying that her brother security wasn't that secure. Because as we all knkw in pieces of us that wouldnt of happened. And what ages are these guys. We knew the ages of the characters in pieces of us. Livy was 17 and so were 2 of the guys and I believe 2 were 24 and 25. I'm just trying to find the timeline here. She said she a lawyer 8 years usually for that so she must be what 27/28 that would put livy about 40ish since she was 12 years older then Evie. I have to say that this family has the worst luck. 1st Livy with trauma and then getten taken again and then there was the issue with Kyle's brother and his Harem and now Evie. But I love that all the kids have a harem except the parents and Xander but that's just so cool. Best part is the family excepts it. Can't wait for book 2.

It feels like a repeat of Pieces of us. The story could be great , but the story and characters feel a lot like Livy and the guys. Both have a detective... They work in securiry , they have been in the military.
One loves to cook , he is also the overly happy one. I wish Miss Taylor went into another direction instead of repeating the story.

I couldn’t finish. I think the author is a talented story creator and it had potential but this story didn’t work for me. I know others who loved it. I’ll buy almost anything you throw into a story if I care enough about the MCs, if I want to see the story of their relationship enough.

I didn’t connect with the FMC. I wanted to. I can’t say exactly why but I didn’t feel emotionally close to her or feel immersed in her story. I also didn’t buy the instant connection between the FMC and MMC. I read these types of books so I don’t mind rushed connections and insta love when they’re done right but I wasn’t convinced in this instance. Based on how she’s portrayed in the story, would she really have felt comfortable around these guys that fast? Maybe, but I didn’t feel it. I know the guys protective instincts are triggered by her but would they really have been so drawn to her? Again, I didn’t feel it. I wasn’t convinced by their connection.

The brother’s psycho girlfriend felt like a caricature of the heinous b*tch stereotype rather than a real character.

The head shot injury was unnecessary. She could have had a more likely traumatic brain injury that caused the same symptoms. This book asked me to suspend belief quite a bit, particularly in regard to the insta love and connection between the FMC and MMCs. Yes this injury can occur but majority of people die from a headshot I wouldn’t have wasted some of the reader’s suspended disbelief on recovery from a gun shot to the head but that’s just me.

Finally, the FMCs stutter annoyed me a lot. I didn’t like reading it whenever she spoke. It’s not that I have a problem with reading stutters. I’ve read other characters with a stutter and it was just an aspect of their dialogue. The way this one was done didn’t seem authentic to me.

Any of these issues on their own could have been overlooked but all together it was too much. No novel is perfect but I didn’t enjoy the MCs and feel their relationship enough to overlook the aspects that bothered me so I ultimately didn’t finish.

spoilers*************

Evie is captured by a serial killer, tortured and brutalized for weeks, but she refuses to stay the words, “kill me”. Her captor releases her with very strict rules: don’t contact your family, the police, or anyone you know. She lived hidden away for four months, but out of money and options she escapes during a storm outage and races to the one place no one would think to find her: her ex boyfriend’s house that’s off the grid. Harris and Evie used to date ten years ago and they were in love, but when tragedy struck Harris, he pushed Evie away. Now she’s back and he wants nothing more than to protect her. He lives with three other guys who all suffer the same nightmare as Harris as they were all held captive together in Nigeria. The guys, Kialan, Alecks, and Nick all take to Evie quick and want to protect her just as fiercely as Harris. They all five struggle through their own nightmares and triggers, but they are slowly healing one another. They send a burner phone to her brothers with a note to call them on their burner phone and they let them know Evie is safe and alive. However, when she goes with Alecks to pick up Zach, Nicks son, from daycare, the serial killer Soloman, shows back up and takes her.

𝕂𝕖𝕖𝕡 𝔹𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 : Fighting For Tomorrow Series - Book one
By Kerry Taylor

Good beginning to Evie story. I believe this has characters from previous series (I did not read) I had no issue following along. It was a little repetitive for a little bit with her constantly going on brother this and brothers that. Maybe that is to relate to the previous book IDK.

There is zero spice in this book which makes since for the pace and story line. Evie has just gone through something traumatic and when she reaches out to Harris to reconnect and have someone to help she gets to also meet his 3 “brothers” Aleks, Rush and Nick so you really just see them get comfortable together as they help her try to recover.

“𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵. 𝘐𝘧 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵 𝘶𝘴, 𝘸𝘪𝘯?”

The ending was kinda predicable and of course it is a cliffhanger to take us into book 2 coming July. Overall good story 3.5 I hope in the next book we learn a little more about the guys and see more relationship development between them all as they continue to unravel the identity of the Numbers Kîłłèr.

An Okay Read, but Not Worth the Investment

I struggled with this book, even though I bought Book 2 just to see how the story ends. I knew going in that this one ended on a cliffhanger, but the main heroine didn’t make a great first impression. In the opening chapters, she forgives her fiancé for cheating—only to catch him cheating again. There’s a saying: once a cheater, always a cheater. Thankfully, he isn’t a major part of the plot, but it still set an odd tone.

There was also no spice at all in this book—nothing on-page, in or out of the bedroom. Her brothers added some fun moments, though one of them was so over-the-top he became a bit annoying.

Nick, one of her partners, has a son, but there were hardly any meaningful scenes between him and the heroine. I also didn’t quite understand Nick’s belief that his son was better off with his mother ,I get that he struggles with issues from his past, but the child’s mother clearly wasn’t a stable option. It felt like the boy would have been better off with Nick, the heroine, and the other men in the relationship.

Overall, it was an okay read, but not worth the money I invested.

Truly magnificent

This book just has it all:

✅ A story and main character you just connect with.

✅ Phenomenal Character development

✅ An enticing story

✅ Heart stopping moments

✅ Heart warming moments

✅ Someone(s) to get angry with

✅ Additional mental health representation including PTSD and the realities of recovery

✅ Cliff hanger gold

Plus if you're new to this author (like me) you can pick up a book and not feel like you're missing anything.... Although you then go and stalk the back catalogue and now want to go back and read more.

Meanwhile if you're a fan already it feels like you get a further update from a family you love...something I have always enjoyed as a reader ...never losing characters you love

I have already recommended this book to friends and I haven't even read book 2 yet.... Here we go... squeals

Ugh this book was so good!!! As I’ve said I’ve been in a little bit of a slump, so getting this book done in a day was really nice. I love the group, and they are perfect for each other.

I also didn’t realize that I have read a book by this author and that I actually liked it. I also LOVE how many different series that she has, and how they are all super intertwined! It makes me want to go back and read all of those other series.

There was a minor plot twist that I didn’t see coming, so that was really enjoyable, but I did see the ending coming. I am sad that the next book doesn’t come out until like June, but who knows if I will come back to read it. Also I just don’t understand how one family can have so much bad luck 😭

This storyline 😭

3.5☆
Honestly, I love Kerry's work, I think I've read everything they've written now and some books even twice!
I love this storyline. It was nice to see a snippet of Livy and the guys too, but wow, poor Evie. Whilst I didn't expect a HEA, I wasn't expecting that ending. Nor was I ready for it!

My reasoning for the 3.5☆
• I really wish this had been edited better. There were far too many errors, and at some points, I nearly gave up.
• There seemed to be a disconnect with the initial couple of chapters, and then after she was let go. I really struggled with the change in writing/tone(?) But then it did get better again and the chapters flowed effortlessly.

"Keep Breathing" is a slow-burn "why choose" romance with plenty of emotional moments, but it struggles with execution. The writing feels amateur, with noticeable spelling and grammatical mistakes that make it difficult to stay fully immersed.

The FMC made some truly dubious choices that were hard to relate to, and at times, I found myself frustrated by her decisions. On top of that, it was quite unbelievable that nearly every character in this book had gone through some form of deep trauma—it felt excessive and unrealistic rather than compelling.

While the story had potential, the combination of these issues made it a 2.5-star read for me. This book ends with a cliffhanger.

So much emotion.

Wow Kerry Taylor has done it again. So much emotion in this book. I loved Evie from the Pieces of Us series and was excited to read her story. I loved seeing her family again and hope we get more of them in the second book.

This book was intense. What Evie had to go through was so heartbreaking and she is so strong to have survived all of that. I love each of the guys and how they are all trying to help her heal. That Cliffhanger though. I knew it was coming but it still was hard to read. Thankfully we only have a few months to wait until the next book is released.

This book isn’t bad, it’s just really basic. Besides the fact that the main character has a sister-in-law who went through the exact same thing (polyamorous relationship with four guys and kidnapped twice 🙄) The ending was so basic. Of course she would get kidnapped again, it didn’t even seem like a realistic way someone would be successfully kidnapped. One thing this book did do well was the speed of the romance. Nothing felt like it was happening to fast, all of these characters have been through a lot and if they had just jumped into a relationship from the start I would have hated this book.

Honestly a lot easier of a read than I would have thought based on the context of the book. But the writing style just ain't it for me.

Love love the guys.

I do have the sneaking suspicion that all of this author's books are a wee bit too similar to each other (I haven't read any others but based off the description of Olivia's story given while reading Evie's I'm just saying...)

----

"We were two broken people giving each other the solace of not being alone in that moment." -

"We’re all different, but is that so bad? Whoever we all are now, we’re stronger. More fucked up, but stronger,"

Evie

A traumatic and dark start to this series. Doesn’t matter if your trained or not for these characters, if your taken then you need more than the skills you have to get out of the situation your in.
A serial killer with some messed up methods and a broken pattern. A FMC that’s running from even her own shadow. Four men with a messed up passed.

It’s not only written so well it has you drawn in within seconds, it’s an emotional and got the cat and mouse vibe with the mystery of what this serial killer is about.

The story has a lot of unanswered questions and you knew with a cliffhanger like that it was always gonna end that way, just didn’t know how or when.

again i don’t want to talk about the relationship it let’s start
firstly i really liked how things weren’t so rushed for her, i feel that she was healing up in a great speed and still has so much to heal until the end
however we know that the cliffhanger won’t let her heal :/ - i don’t want to spoil for u guys but it’s pretty obvious what happened right?
my fav is nick but honestly they all have great personalities and don’t hold any red flag
zack is a sweet baby
as you guys know i’m already into the second and hopefully last book of the series

Kerry Taylor does it again.

From the start the story draws you in and it’s great revisiting character from the earlier books. Evie is such a strong character, reading the trauma she has suffered felt so real it was like someone I knew personally. I told myself when the new series dropped I wouldn’t read till both books were available. As you can see that went well for me. Roll on July for book 2.

This one, ugh, was so insane and sad and great!

Seriously, the ending!!??? Evie is one strong woman who survived literally from the strength within even tho she doesn't see it herself like that! This has all the tropes I like..serial killer..healing..a group of protective men who all have traumatized backgrounds but want to heal slowly with Evie! I couldn't stop reading this! It's definitely an emotional roller coster! I cannot wait till the next book to get my answers!!

Kerry Taylor's work is a hit or miss for me, so I was glad that Keep Breathing was in the hit category. We met Evie in her previous series Pieces of Us, so we are familiar with the family dynamic and characters surrounding Evie, except for Harris (& Co.). I already like Evie so it was easy to get involved in her journey to healing and living, not just surviving. I can't wait to read more as I found her guys and storyline very appealing and interesting.

I forgot that this was going to be a spin-off from the other series. Which I love, so not disappointed at all.
Evie’s struggle after she’s kidnapped is one of resilience and strength. Thought she doesn’t think so. I love the guys and how they all have trauma that allows them to help Evie.
Though that ending makes me wish I had waited for the second book to come out. What a cliffhanger. Can’t wait to read the next.

Gripping and emotional, what a page turner!

So much trauma has been suffered from both Evie and her four guys (from when they were in the military). It has been conveyed really well and you absolutely empathise with them and want to cry for their pain they have.

Evie escaped from death but now the serial killer has found her again. How? I can’t wait for book two for the answers and hopefully a happy ending.

She has PTSD. All the MMCs have PTSD. I have never needed a healing story more than this.

Everyone in this story is broken but somehow still manages to fight another day. It’s inspiring and almost uplifting if it also wasn’t so tragic.

There’s virtually no spice in this but it’s very story and character focused.

Please check your trigger warnings but if you want something that’s both dark and healing, this is definitely it.

The writing felt off, with numerous grammatical errors—like ending full paragraphs with commas and frequent spelling mistakes. It gave the impression of an unfinished book. The story had potential, but it played out more like a movie than a novel, with strange time skips and one-dimensional characters. As a fan of mysteries and thrillers, I’ll give it 2 stars, but it’s clear there were many opportunities for improvement.

Wow. Another awesome book by Kerry Taylor. I’ve been waiting for Evie’s story. I just love her and her men. She’s gone through so much but never gives up. She’s got a lot to fight for. Her family has made her strong from their own experiences in the Pieces of Us series which is an awesome series. I’m never disappointed with this authors books. Can’t wait for Evie’s conclusion.

Evie's story

This family has so many hard knocks its unbelievable. Little Evie is grown up and went through hell, just when you think she is going to be okay with her guys, bad guy strikes her down. I love reading anything Kerry Taylor writes, I would love to give her 5 stars its just some clerical errors. I love it and I can't wait for the next book!!
