As someone who is driven, determined, and constantly looking for ways to better myself and achieve my goals, it is critical that I find ways to improve and increase my chances of succeeding. I was a member of an elite mentoring team for a year two years ago. The primary focus was on self-mastery, with a particular emphasis on mindset and its critical role in achieving goals. When I came across this book, I was eager to read it because I knew it would provide useful insights.

Mindset First is a book that delves deeply into the concept behind its title. Written from the viewpoint of an athlete who has gained valuable insights in their pursuit of greatness, the author highlights the significance of shifting focus away from results and towards altering perspective. The author refers to this mindset shift as "Putting Mindset First."

Mindset First is an insightful read about the advantages of using a mindset-based approach to achieve success. The author uses sports examples to provide practical advice that can be applied to any discipline. This book is an excellent starting point for those seeking to shift away from a results-driven mindset.

A disruptive book!

To be honest, nowadays there are many books that promise to be disruptive, but say the same thing as many other texts; however, this one in particular caught my attention because it promises little verbiage despite being a book and the truth is that it achieves it 100%.
This book is dedicated to all those sportsmen or professional athletes so that they can perceive success from a completely different perspective, so that they can learn to cope with so many disorders that they face every day.
I think this book challenges the theory of what many books mention, because it prioritizes the way of thinking about the result, something that many coaches would not agree with but that in the end greatly benefits athletes. I recommend reading this book if you are an athlete, have an athlete patient or if you are a family member!

It is not just any motivational book

This book goes against all those who erroneously or superfluously engage in motivational coaching.
Dr. Preston makes a bit of a fool of those who, without studies or any real foundation, try to motivate people to be better simply by means of positive thoughts.
This book teaches us tactics, discipline and methodology to achieve what we really want to achieve, set clear goals and meet them within reasonable time frames.
Scaling his methodology to athletes, it shows any reader that Preston's studies and recommendations can really change your life if you learn to apply them in the right way. Clearly the basis is focused on the human mind and its capacity to open up to a world of possibilities when we get rid of certain obstacles.
Excellent book.

Straightforward yet compelling writing

Wow! This book goes deep. It goes deep into the psychological facets of sports performance, especially in hockey. I found the book’s narrative to be engaging. It contains personal anecdotes and professional insights. The author uses this to illuminate the importance of mindset over just results. I loved the straightforward yet compelling writing. Athletes like Nathan MacKinnon serve as case studies and inspiration. It was really interesting to see how mental resilience and a process-focused mindset can lead to peak performance. I have faced the pressure of high expectations and the fear of failure. So, this book resonated deeply with me, and I think most people will relate. This is a practical guide that goes way beyond sports. It offers valuable lessons on achieving consistent excellence in any competitive arena.

An open-minded book
“Mindset first” is a handy guide penned by Dr. Cassey Preston that will do wonders to those professionals who need to control their minds in any game.
The author has included his experiences, insights and professional expertise throughout these years to highlight the strategies that work for professionals. Acceptance, breathing, commitment are some of the topics mentioned here that will help professional players to develop their potential; bear in mind the process rather than the results.
It’s a practical, interesting and well-explained book that will enlighten players about the strength and potentiality of their minds. I believe that it is necessary to understand and accept the fact that the mind counts for anything people want to do. Without a doubt, I recommend this gem to readers who want to boost their confidence in their lives.

It is a great book that motivates you to be the owner of your greatness. There is a potential within you, and all you need is to change or program your mindset. The author has shared lessons on how to win, which doesn't have to be in any sport or activity but applies to your everyday life. Coming up with a routine and sticking to it motivates you to reach your goal, improve your self-esteem, bounce back from failures, and, my favorite, find a cure for overthinking. The book is divided into easy-to-understand chapters. You can read one or two chapters per sitting, and then at the end, it has a very informative summary and space for your notes. The mental preparation and routine for the peak performance chapter have helped me prepare for my test.

I have a lot of experience with books about mindsets, and I have to say, this one truly stands up. Being able to apply what is taught in the books is always an issue, but this read was so clear that I feel more confident when it comes to actually making the necessary changes. You are your own enemy when it comes to mind and this book is here to empathize with the reader and share positivity! Solid reading.

The biggest asset of every athlete is definitely their mindset. There are many people gifted and skilled in sports, but transforming that raw power into greatness can only be done with a strong head, which will ultimately achieve better performance.

Preston knows this very well and explains in detail different techniques to achieve mental toughness. He specializes in hockey, but it can be extrapolated to other sports as well. As a physical education teacher, I find it interesting and technical; even though we are all different, the objective is normally the same, being the best versions of ourselves in whatever we are doing, at least for lovers of competition such as myself.

Whether you are a high-level athlete or leader wanting to make sure that your mental game is on point or simply an “ordinary” person who wants to discover how to attain peak mental (and physical) performance, this book will teach you everything you need to know. Dr. Cassidy Preston avoids cliché “think happy thoughts” advice and focuses, instead, on real techniques that can help you improve your mindset. It is important to note that you have to separate mindset from results. Although the results will come, eventually, basing your self-worth and mental game on results is sure to be counterproductive. This and other valuable lessons are what I learned from this book!

We all, in one way or another, seek excellence in any activity we do or even in life itself. In this book, we will discover the strategies used by the talented Dr. Cassidy Preston to help professional athletes deal with failure and above all, he encourages them to look for different possibilities. This great change of mind that the author takes them to is very interesting and applicable to various aspects, which makes the book an invaluable resource.
The mental power that excellence needs is extreme since it involves anxiety, stress or confidence issues and the author is careful to explain it extensively. He also provides the necessary tools to face this process in the best possible way.

Great book

In my opinion, this book is an amazing resource for hockey players. However, I also found it to be incredibly insightful in terms of mindset development overall. "Mindset First" is truly a great read that I highly recommend. Its content and perspective are both very helpful, and I find myself ready to apply what I’ve learned in everyday situations - particularly beneficial for hockey players.

This was a good story. It's nothing ground-breaking so to say, but it's a great reminder. It's a great reminder to take care of your mental health, to stop saying, "I can't do this," and start saying, "I can do this." It's a short read, but a good read. You can be a better player! And this can definitely be applied to everything else, too!

Really interesting book, the first one that wanted me to work on my Mindset First instead of results and explained why in a clear manner. Has a lot of hockey examples, but I can still see the point. Great book!
