Married to the Military #2

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas

Rate this book
My cheery little life was chugging along smoothly until one small shift sent it off track until it imploded. I lost my health, my business plans, and even my apartment—Merry Christmas to me! It’s at this low point Colonel Gruff, a man I know dislikes me, finds me.

He’s the grumpy soldier with a personality like sandpaper, but suddenly he’s offering me a solution to my problems I can’t say no to, and in a matter of weeks, I’m Mrs. Colonel Gruff.

I’m giving him what he needs too—a wife for the holidays. We’ll play pretend for his family, and even though he hasn’t said why, I know convincing them is important. And though this is all part of the agreement, those sugar plum fairies dancing around in my chest every time he gets close aren’t part of the deal.

I’m not ready to give up mistletoe kisses with my fake husband, or this glimpse of his secret soft side. But we’re only married for the holidays. I can’t keep him—even if he’s all I want for Christmas.

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is a closed door romance without implied intimacy.

A touching, emotional holiday read that blew my expectations completely out of the water!

Sometimes all it takes is the love of the right person...

This book was a living, breathing testament to the healing, restorative power of love. In this story, we literally watched the LOVE undo all the misconceptions, lies, and shame placed on a man by those who didn’t truly see him nor appreciate him. Those destructive bindings were bent and broken under the weight of love, and what was the result? His heart learned to laugh again. It. was. so. beautiful.

Gruff and Andy were pure magic on the page. I was soooo invested in them, I stayed up way too late and got up way too early, completely engrossed in this story. It’s not often that a book affects me this way, but this one just did it for me.

Highlightables:

- The meet-cute.
- The way he looks at her.
- Gruff. Simply Gruff.
- Andy and her sunshine.
- The cats!
- Everything about this couple’s dynamic. (Good luck with those walls, Gruff.)
- The way they take care of each other.
- His soft spot which is only. ever. her. (and yes, her cats.)
- The way he loves and supports her.
- The way he just wants to be claimed.
- The way she sees him.
- The way (because she truly sees him) he began to reveal more of himself, including that sense of humor. Yes!
- Their chemistry. Pure fire.

Notable Quotables:

- She’s the persistent dandelions that burst out of the grass before anything else considers blooming. And a weed is an apt metaphor for her because she’s so preposterously bright-eyed, it feels like an angel had to lose its halo just to supply her glow.
- I feel certain if she’ll just tell me, I’ll move mountains to make this stop. I suspect, knowing who Andy is, that there is no gray area here. I’ll become Atlas and carry the world for her or find a radioactive spider and Spiderman myself into a solution. There has to be one.
- I have held my heart in a cage, wrapping it up behind bars so I didn’t have to face the same brutal end I’ve experienced before. But Andy? She didn’t just walk in with a key. She almost instantly made me believe there was no need for the cage or the bars, and they’re simply gone.

Anybody else out there want a Gruff? Yea. Me, too. I loved every single minute watching her sunshine bring his heart to life again. And I loved the way he loved her, every bit of her, and supported her, no matter what.

I can’t recommend this book enough - just the right amount of humor, but with a whole lot of heart. And just in time for the holidays!

I’ve really been enjoying reading Christmas books during the Christmas season these past few years. I’m trying to fit in books that I have heard good things about, authors that I haven’t read before, or books that contain a favorite trope of mine. Well, this book fits all three of those things. I’m so glad I read it!

This marriage of convenience story made a lot of sense. Both in the reasons for it, but also in the way Wilson and Andy related to each other. It was definitely a slow burn story and that worked so well for these two. I loved the way Andy began to realize fairly early on that Wilson was actually a very good man. The way these two began to feel more for each other was perfect and made me so happy. I loved the way they eventually allowed those feelings to grow and the way they bonded at the lodge while dealing with Wilson’s difficult family situation.

This is a clean, closed door romcom, but I’d like to add a side note for those sensitive to certain things. At the very end of the book, there is a quick acknowledgement to the fact that Andy and Wilson have made their marriage a true one in all ways, but nothing happens on the page. There is also a light curse word used a couple of times toward the end of the book.

I personally loved this story. It was so fun and it makes me very excited to read more from this author.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is a solid 4 stars for me. The reason I deducted a star from my rating is because I felt like the book started off a little too slow. I didn’t think it picked up quickly enough to capture my attention. I’m really glad I kept pushing through because I really did enjoy the relationship between Wilson and Andy. I adored getting to see the “tough” Wilson show his loving and softer side.

Main Tropes:
🎄 marriage of convenience
💚 anxiety and migraine representation
🎄 family drama
💚 one bed
🎄 closed door (sex implied off page)
💚 cat lover FMC

I adored this book and it was just the perfect Christmas read! I have been waiting for this book ever since I read the first one and it did not disappoint. Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is the second book in Claire Cain’s Married to the Military. Andie and Gruff definitely needed their own story
I adored Andie! She was so full of life and I loved her positivity. She was trying her best especially as life’s circumstances just seemed to keep on hitting her. It was sweet to read about her connecting with Gruff. She found a family in him. It was also cool to finally get to know Gruff better. He was definitely a bit of a grump but he had his reasons. I loved seeing him start to let Andie in and how he opened his world to her.
The romance was just the sweetest and I liked the progression of their relationship. They became each other’s person. I loved how they created their own family and home. They did have some issues to work through but I liked how they learned to communicate with each other and grow with each other. Andie’s cats were a lot of fun and I like how Gruff ended up just adopting them into his life. Also Andie’s obsession with cats was hilarious
I would totally recommend Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas! It was the perfect Christmas book and the story was lovely. I adored the characters and I didn’t want to put the book down! Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is a closed door romantic comedy.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

She’s strong, upbeat, resourceful, loves cats and she is a little bit quirky. He’s the grumpy Colonel she loves to annoy when he stops by her coffee shop and orders black coffee by repeating back his order as a frou-frou drink complete with sprinkles.

The morning she receives the final straw in her current list of overwhelming events, she just can’t go with “it’ll all work out” and she dissolves into a sobfest in the alley outside her coffee shop. He happens to see her as he’s walking by, and he can’t help but stop and make sure she’s okay.

Turns out they’ve both got some things that a marriage of convenience could fix right now. He needs a wife for the holidays, she needs medical insurance.

These two characters are just precious. He’s convinced he’s not marriage material, she’s focused on her goals that are now seriously out of reach without a miracle, so marriage as a temporary business arrangement seems logical to both of them. This puts them in close enough proximity to one another that they learn some important things about themselves.

Slow burn. Funny. Meddling mom. Awkward moments. Beauty and the Beast vibes. All the things. It is soooo good.

I was gifted an ARC version of this book in exchange for my honest review, which I am happy to give here.

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is the second book in the Married to the Military Romances series. I had not personally read the previous book and found this one was able to be enjoyed just fine as a standalone.

I always love a good military romance... and when you also add in Christmas and a marriage of convenience? Yes, please! Gruff certainly lived up to his name on the surface... but when he finds Andy upset over health issues that she can't afford to take care of, he's quick to jump to her rescue. She needs good health insurance; he needs to not be alone for his family's holiday gathering. A marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution for them both. Andy is just the burst of sunshine he needs for him to let down that gruff exterior and I loved seeing his softer side come out throughout the story. While this chemistry is undeniable from the start, this was definitely a slow burn and made the wait all the more worth it. Throw in some chat threads with meddling moms and there was so much to love in this cute holiday romance!

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is a closed-door romance with kisses only. There is a bit of minor language as well.

Wow! I just loved this book! This series keeps getting better with each book.
There was so much I loved about this book, I'm not sure my review will give it justice.
Colonel Gruff is aptly named. He is stern, serious and stiff. BUT...he has one soft spot and it is Andy. She is unaware and does not like him at all because she is sunshine to his grump, although she admits he is gorgeous!
Once they spend some time together, Andy starts to truly see the man behind the gruffness and he reveals the softness and humor he has hidden. It was glorious!
This is definitely a book that I will read again (and again!)

Claire always delivers with small town romance and I adored this sweet holiday romance!

We meet Gruff, a grumpy confirmed bachelor soldier, and Andy, a sunshiney pink haired cat lover who hopes to own a cat cafe. She has a need for good health insurance and he needs a wife to accompany him to a family holiday trip.

One ironclad contract to end the marriage later, and they are man and wife. Neither of them realized the feelings that would hit them once they started letting down their walls and it was magical to witness them falling for each other.

Gotta love a holiday romance. And you will be rooting for Gruff and Andy!

Also the M.O.M. Network group chat kept me laughing.

Thanks @clairecainwriter for allowing me an eARC!

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is the second book in the Married to the Military series and it does not disappoint. This is the perfect Christmas read! The author wrote this so well and the romance in this was the sweetest. All of the characters in the book were amazing and I especially loved Andy. I loved the cats in the book, as well. I loved this book so much and can not wait for the next book in this series. I would highly recommend this book to any reader especially to those who love closed door romance. Claire never fails to provide readers with a sweet, swoony and relatable story! This novel has the grumpy sunshine element and I absolutely adored Gruff. This is a marriage of convenience novel that benefits both sides as Andie needs medical insurance for health reasons, and Gruff needs a date for a family Christmas function. As the novel progresses readers fall in love with Gruff who isn’t as stolid as you would think with his career. Claire put real human emotions to play in this novel, and created two characters that are absolutely perfect! Will this marriage of convenience become more than just convenience?!

This is a cute marriage of convenience about Andy and Gruff. Andy is a ball of sunshine most of the time. When her circumstances seem to change abruptly, Gruff finds her in an unusual bout of tears. Her health is suffering causing her to lose her home and her business plan takes a dive all at the same time. Gruff is having family issues and comes up with the solution of a marriage of convenience to benefit both of them. The question is will they be able to stand firm and not fall in love while pretending to be happily married?

Loving The Gruff Soldier

I loved the first book in this series with JJ and Grace, and I really didn't like Gruff in that book. This book with Gruff and Andy was superb! It was so different from the last book. The mothers network was funny again. The family dynamics were horrible, but I loved how Andy made it through. Gruff's change in heart and emotions and goals were so endearing. I just loved Gruff and Andy together. Beautiful, fun story.

3.8 stars. A good story and characters are entertaining. But, the ending was a bit less than I was hoping for. A couple proofreading errors, nothing huge there, just two small ones. Did enjoy the story, just shocked the author didn’t go into much detail about Wilson’s job as a lawyer. The first book with JJ spent a great deal of time telling us that Wilson is JJ’s boss and a lawyer. So, why not clarify this in this book?

If you love the grumpy sunshine trope with a splash of romance that sneaks up on you plus a sprinkling of family drama and a series of unfortunate events, this book is for you! Loved this book from cover to cover, the character building, the slow fall into love, and a complicated military grump made this a read to savor! So good…

This book was so good. A grumpy straight laced man that marries a ray of sunshine. I loved reading their love story. When Gruff family dynamic secret came to light, I was so thrilled on how she handled the situation. Trust and turns and curveballs I never saw coming back throughout the story. This book is a definite must.

I really enjoyed this delightful, fake marriage, sweet Christmas story. Gruff (Will) is Mr Grumpy and Andy is pure sunshine, one of my favorite tropes. Gruff and Andy have a slow burn relationship, but the banter is great. The M.O.M Network made me smile. I loved how swoony, adorable and sweet Gruff and Andy are. I loved reading this book!

sweet romance

This book was totally unexpected. I love a good grumpy/sunshine, age-gap romance! Even though it was set during Christmas, the author didn’t resort to the same old tired tropes. On paper, these two characters shouldn’t work, but they do and the chemistry between Andy and Will is undeniable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more.

What a Beautiful Story!

I love this beautiful romcom featuring two opposites attract personalities - Gruff the grinch and Andy the sugar plum fairy with a side cast of another military marriage of convenience and an overbearing political family. Settle into your favorite chair in front of the fire with. a warm beverage and enjoy a lovely holiday treat!

Andy and Gruff’s journey from not very friendly to falling madly in love is a tough one. Full of sweet moments, hard decisions, family drama, health issues and wonderful cats. The way they discover the other true self and find their way to their hearts is heartwarming. A beautiful love story.

Cute grumpy/sunshine, marriage of convenience story with some forced proximity. Christmas vibes without being cheesy. Not much sizzle. Notes to clean readers: allusions to past intimacy and mentions intimacy after marriage at the end. No fade to black. Clean language.

Cats

I normally don't write reviews, but of all the Claire Cain books I've read and loved, this is my favorite. I loved the dedication as I am a Cat Lady. I also loved the roles of PB and RJ, as well as Andy's dream business featuring cats. Overall, I really enjoyed this story.

I actually bought a Kindle and subscribed to KU just to read this book and guess what. It didn't live up to my expectations based on the rave reviews here. Anyone looking for a mature romance will enjoy this book as any miscommunication were quickly addressed and resolved. No third act break-up and clean romance.
