‘How long have I got, Doc? Five days? Five weeks? Five months? Five years?’
‘Months,’ the oncologist replied.
When he heard this devastating news, Steve Legg and his wife Bekah made a bold decision – they would get busy living and get busy laughing.
Yes, there were tears that day and in those that followed, but Steve is a funnyman and a man of faith. He was never going to give cancer the last laugh.
In his latest book, international baffler and funny guy, Steve Legg, faces the no-joke reality of the diagnosis of a terminal illness. An engaging read throughout, the book will lead you to the most wonderful of all that we are never, ever alone, and never, ever forsaken.
But this is not just Steve’s story; he draws lessons that can change not only the way we view our death – but also our life.
Hope. Heart. Humour. Humanity. This gripping story has everything.
…just like the man himself! In this book, Steve has been able to talk about all the complexities of life and particularly life under the shadow of death - in a way that is simple but not simplistic. The stories are uniquely his but also relatable and while there were many moments that caused my eyes to leak a little, I mostly felt, as I think was his intention, a lot of joy and heaps of hope. Would recommend to anyone who wants to know more about what “fullness of life” looks like whatever the circumstances.
Yes, this inspiring book has met me where I am. Older but not knowingly I'll, am prepared and looking forward to seeing and living with Jesus. Not sure if Steve will be able to walk on the beach. My least favorite Bible verse is Revelation 21:1 where it says there will be no more sea since I love the sea so much. Have decided being with God will be so exciting that the sea will not be missed. With prayers for Steve and his family.
An excellent read, funny, sad and everything in between.
I actually read this in one go. It takes the reader through the whole spectrum of emotions. It's honest, funny, sad, positive, encouraging..........from entertainer to husband and dad. Throughout it all, in every situation, his Christian faith carries him through.
A beautiful telling of a life suddenly impacted with cancer; told with humour, honesty, and an inspiring hope. Funnyman Steve shares his somewhat serious journey so far; his diagnosis, treatment and holding onto faith and family. The Leggs are the best bunch and it's a privilege to know something of the people in this real life story.
A very moving account of Steve's life since his cancer diagnosis. Going through cancer myself (though hopefully not terminal), this book shows how keeping busy with living, rather than being busy with dying, is made possible if you've got Jesus by your side. And good friends and family. All the very best to Steve as he continues living wa-a-y past that predicted five months. God bless you Steve.
This book touched me in a number of ways. As I read this book, I found myself in tears, laughing, dreading the diagnosis, feeling the pain of treatments and finding hope. This is a real look at life and what it throws at you. Thank you Steve for openly sharing your journey and faith.
This should be required reading for everyone. It really is that good a book. Raw, funny, emotional and utterly inspiring. It is a book that will make you think about faith and your own outlook on life. It is not preachy at all and as I said before everyone should read this book.
What a honest, hilarious and inspiring testament for others who are going through similar circumstances to read this and have hope and authentic walk with the Holy Spirit by your side. I am so grateful to have listened to this & now to share his story with others.
Thank you Steve for writing this book and documenting your journey through all the challenges you faced. I laughed, I cried and I faced my own fears about death, dying and choosing to live.
You will laugh. You will cry. Steve Legg’s memoir of “getting busy while dying” is heartbreaking and inspiring all at once. It’s the best book I’ve read all year.
An excellent read. Real, heartwarming, funny and full of joy in Jesus in the face of adversity. Thank you for writing this Steve and for sharing your journey.
