The Kurtherian Gambit #14

Don't Cross This Line: Dramatized Adaptation

Rate this book
It's been three years Bethany Anne and her team have been building, trying their best to stay off the radar and not fight with those they are trying to save.

The emotions have boiled to the surface.

The is a line drawn in the sand, and some idiots just have to step across it.

Those that thought the cat didn't have claws are about to find out how very, very wrong they are.

**Please note, as mentioned in a review, there is flagrantly foul language in these novels. The main character does not have a problem with cussing, just uninspired cussing.

OMG Hang on tight!!

BA knows how to kick ass in style and she doesn't care who it belongs too. Yet again earth plots against the Etheric Empire and their Queen Bethany Anne. Yet again they start to attack innocents, so Queen Bethany Anne unleashes mayhem. This is blood, guts and burning flesh. Also, not forgetting lots and lots of death.

This book has a lot of action. They are preparing to go through a gateway into another solar system while earth's leaders plot in secret. As do many corporate leaders still bitching about TBQ not sharing their technology.

Well, how BA deals with them is awesome. She doesn't even blink. After one off her people is shot she unleashes the Queen Bitch.

I think this is one off the best books in this series. The scene where they do moonies on the observation deck is absolutely hilarious. Three white, one black and one furry black butts, priceless!. They were mooning at the space vessel attacking one of the Queens ships while another force it trying to. Kill the Queen on Earth.

I can't say too much because I know some of you are reading the series and there is nothing worse then some @@shole telling you what happens. What I will say is buckle in for a wild ride. Enjoy!

Love this story

I'm excited to be back at it with this series. I absolutely love BA. The way Mr. Anderle built her character and arranged the story has me coming back for more. A big thanks to the author for continuing to write stories that keep fans like me hooked. On to the next part of the series.

Action, action, action! This story is packed with non-stop entertainment. The characters are likable, relatable, and believable! The fiction based scenario with the governments reaction and dishonor is unfortunately way to realistic given our political environment.

As Bethany Anne and her group get ready to go through the gate into another area of space she has to spend some time cleaning up the many groups after her tech. This book has the usual mix of action, humour, interesting characters and story

Still a good series, but this is where BA turns from being a decent person to being an evil tyrant (though she has been building up to it). She acts as though she earned the vast wealth and OP superpowers that she has and disdains everyone that doesn't have them, acting like they could have them too if they were just as great as she is. The series has turned into an actually readable version of Atlas Shrugged.
She was given almost everything in life, and, when nearing an untimely death, given vast amounts more and acts like she earned everything she has and can't see that not everyone was as lucky as she is. Like most libertarians, she started on third base and thinks she hit a triple (as the saying goes).
She's even gotten so bad that she almost kills a guard that is one of her people just because he doesn't allow her entry to an area because she expects him to recognize her from a photo, as he's never met her. Frankly, if a guard was willing to give someone access just because they resemble a photo of the queen, that guard should not be guarding. The fact that he was willing to stand up to her and deny her entry should mean a promotion, not a dressing down.
She has the ability to grant immortality, or at least longevity, to the entire human race, but she hordes it as if it was ever hers to give in the first place. She acts like she's the one that created the Kutherian nanocites and when other people are like "Hey, we don't want to die in just a few decades either" she gets all indignant. She has the greatest power that Earth has ever seen, which means she has the greatest responsibility that the Earth has ever seen, but she refuses to take it. She talks about people trying to steal "her" technology, but it was never hers to withhold. She had done nothing during her life to legitimize getting such gifts in the first place and, while she has used them well most of the time, she acts like that entitles her to treat everyone else as subhuman. Those that have subjugated themselves to her in order to get some of the benefits that she can offer, she treats as slaves.
She acts like the world owes her something because Michael may have died, but never bothers to think about the loved ones of all the innocents she murders, and yes, she does murder a lot of innocents.

I think this book deserves 4.5 stars. I loved almost all of the book. There was just one scene that made BA and her group seem really messed up in a bad way. There was a welcoming ceremony for a few thousand new people. They were told that if they wanted to leave, they could choose to leave immediately or learn some secrets and leave right before the ships were to leave Earth. Once the people who chose to leave immediately left, BA put on her demonic looking vampire face, and the crowd all started to take a knee. She didn't really say anything, so the secret would be her vampiric form. It didn't make sense for nobody to be afraid of that form, when people always were in past books when they saw it and weren't prepared. It was like everyone was under some sort of mind control. It was all the more messed up that 100% of the audience then took a knee. It was like a cult worshiping a demon queen indoctrinating new initiates into the fold. I know I would have been interested in TQB but freaked out when BA's demon looking face showed up. I would not take a knee. I would want to leave. That whole scene was messed up and lowered my opinion of TQB. It made it seem cult like, especially with people willing to bend the knee to what they could have thought was a demon. That was just so messed up. The rest of the book was really awesome though. I don't know what Michael Anderle was thinking with that messed up scene though. Seriously. Demon cults are bad, not good.

4.5 Follow The Audio Crumbs Of Destruction And Chaos Stars

Don’t Cross This Line is the fourteenth book in The Kurtherian Gambit series by Michael Anderle.

Awesome sauce! Bethany Anne and Co. bring buckets of kickass to many offenders. Now I just want them to leave Earth. I feel bad for that will be left behind, either from their own people or innocent civilians. It’s obvious their extraction from the planet, coupled with misguided governments throughout the world, is going to shove their civilization into the wrong direction.

I’m super sad Yuko will one of these people staying behind. But she has been left as a defender of the peace, the UnknownWorld, and a contact for Michael when he surfaces. It sucks mainly because I’ve fallen in love with her and ADAM’s friendship. I was hoping for many more moments enjoying their growing bonds. I wonder if once the TBQ leave, if we’ll still check back in on her and the men left to guard her?

Thankfully they destroyed the hidden cabal that was experimenting on humans with a demented alien scientist. The one that’s been mentioned since the first non-TBQ spaceship came into play.

I’m also overjoyed that the Yollins people have offered their oaths to Bethany Anne as their new Queen. Asking for assistance in revolutionizing their species out from under the oppressive caste system ruling them now. Along with the ex-President and constant wondering what he will do now that he’s joined her retinue?

3.5 stars (unfortunately half stars aren’t a thing) so it shows 4.

I’m determined to finish this series, but I have to say this book was a bit of a disappointment.

The series started out amazing. Humanity fighting for all of humanity. No nationalism, no party lines etc.

Then we get to this book and that has gone out the window in one thing. BA saves the former US President. I don’t see her saving the Emperor of Japan or the leaders of Australia or Germany (supposed allies of TQB), but she does save the former American President.

The author could have left the politician at home or moved him to a new location but that’s not how it is seeming to play out. So, I’m rather disappointed that the author has made this a point. I hope that character will fade out as the series progresses.

But that made this book a little disheartening. Especially with such a strong humanity for humanity stance in the earlier books.

Time to kick some buttocks!

The Majestic 12, the slippery United Nations ambassadors, the leaders of pretty much every country... They all want a piece of TQB’s technology and would really prefer it if Bethany Anne bought the farm. And there are some spectacular attempts in this, the 14th book of the series.
The Yollins participate in the undertaking to destroy Majestic 12 and their efforts are mighty. Watching all those who fight for, and with, Bethany Anne brings about the realization that perhaps, instead of plotting to help their civilization overcome TQB when they go through the gate, they should offer their loyalty and seek to start a revolution on their home planet.
I can’t wait to see the next chapter!
Earth will be on its own because Elvis is leaving the building!!

I'm not sure why I'm still listening to these other than habit. The characters are two dimensional and the author's politics are transparent (and pretty much diametrically opposed to my own). The world, the lore, and the premise is good, though. It is, however, unfortunate that it takes a very long time for any movement to happen.

Of note is that I don't think Emily Beresford is able to keep up with the plethora of characters. I wasn't able to tell who was speaking in this installment, whereas in the past I thought she did a remarkable job of differentiating the characters. In this book I had trouble parsing who was speaking and it felt a bit like there were only two voices, male and female.

Well, they crossed the line..

Why can’t people just get along? Well, the power hungry, who don’t care who they kill or stomp on to get it, have finally pushed Bethany Anne past the let’s try to be nice and use diplomacy point. So, BA and her folks, including the Yollins!, take action. They are quite effective. Hehe. Oorah!

Notes on the after the novel stuff: I always enjoy reading them, but the Author’s Wife stuff had me cracking up!

It was also nice to see some information on other authors working in this universe in other series. I enjoy the Federal Witch books, so had read the Etheric Academy books already, which are what sucked me into reading this main series. I am also now excited about trying books from the other authors listed as well. :)

Stomping out the bad

A good read but one criticism -do Ashur's pups and mate have his abilities? Sorry but hate it when you only get have the info although it does rather tie up most of the loose ends from the previous book. A spring clean is in operation. They have found evidence of three other groups under alien 'guidance' and a whole list of people that are trying to bring her, her followers and companies to heel. Their heel. However she is far from a willing participant and starts bring her own justice to bear. Death and destruction! Will they succeed and if so what will they do now? Especially as the Yollon's seem to have become infected with her brand of fair play and justice. Who will stay and who will go when the last farewell is said?

Weber takes a back seat to Anderle.

I have been a hard core honor harrington fan since I read On Basilisk station in the 90s. I have waited for his new book for well over a year. I got HH #19 and Dont Cross this Line, the same week. I am very sad to say, I got more enjoyment out of yours:( Weber used to be my all time favorite author, not so much any more. The Kurtherian Gambit books are full of action and close interpersonal relationships, and don't spend pages... explaining the science, like OKAY already, weren't we in the middle of an operation/battle etc. I will still read Weber, but you first. On another note A Nicht/Were Hybrid? Just a thought.

I loved this book.

It brings together so many threads in Bethany Anne's story,. It ties up some loose ends. It unifies some people, and breaks apart others.

It shows that the dream that Bethany Anne has, both for her people, and those on Earth who are like-minded, is something that can only be possible, as long as everyone starts thinking of what's good for the Planet, and not just for them.

It's a kicka*s book that shows what can be possible when you are all singing from the same page.

And it's a brilliant piece in the puzzle that is the Kurtherian Universe series!

Loved it!

Every time

So, I have been mostly enjoying this series. The science is sometimes overkill and starts to detract from the story. Also, the farther in you get, the more difficult it becomes to keep track of all the threads. However, the absolute worst part of this series is the author's use of the word 'gentleman'; 99% of the time he means 'gentlemen' as he's referencing more than one man. It's easy to pass over for a book or two, but it becomes hair pullingly aggravating after ten plus.

"These humans knew war, and they knew war like a species designed by the gods for it."

The war is revving up to a whole other level! Bethany Anne is kicking backsides (I'm keeping this clean for a PG audience, so am avoiding creative cussing!) left, right, and centre. The action continues, characters are developing, and Michael is excelling. You *have* to read the author's snippets at the end - hilarious!!!!

Going out with a blast

Well this was a blast as the action heated up to plasma temps and we see the final preparations for the Meridith Reynolds and the rest of the fleet to leave the solar system bound for the Yollin worlds and do the last clean up of Earth. The camaraderie works so well between all the elements and the light hearted moments inbetween the action help the book from 4 to 6 stars. Here's to the next thrilling instalment.

Great! Just keeps getting better!

Ok I'll admit it, I'm a baby boomer! I say this because us boomers are really the end of the classical reading generation. Everything from 1984, to Middle Earth, all the way to the Electric Kool-aid Acid Test. Mike for whatever reason resonates across all of this to write some fans fine books! Keep them coming and I'll keep reading your books as well as those many great writers you have spawned. Peace

Must read this series.

Those of you who know me, know I don't review very often. If you are reading this review but haven't started the series yet...go to the first book "death becomes her" they're all on ku and well worth the time and ku membership fee.

If you like vampires and lycons and aliens and governments getting what's coming to them then this series is a MUST read. I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this series.

Finished 14 and continuing onward

Wow! My Covid-19 was going down and now I am afraid to get on the scale. What happens when you sit and read more than is good for you? The Covid weight number creeps up.
I got upset with everyone attacking our space enthusiastic bitches! Everywhere! Made me want to leave Earth, too.
Onward to book 14, and ashamed I haven't started my brother's book and his soon to be published short stories. But I love Bethany Anne, too.

Missing a book?

Reading the series through kindle. You might want to the author's web page first to see if he has a book order that includes any side stories because a time frame of three years has passed between the last book and this one in the author's world. A lot has happened that must have a story because I was playing mental catch up to just go with the flow in all of the changes.

Good book and a fun read... And I think the Tabitha plots may finally be over... I hope

ALL CAUGHT UP

This has been a marathon of reading, but I just finished Book 14. I haven't the words to praise the writings of a man I will never meet but cannot imagine living without his words in my day. Now to await the adventure coming once we travel thru the gate. Plus the return of Michael, at last.

Love ya, Michael Anderle!!!

Yes, I can see why you are doing so well on Amazon. Bethany Anne, the Queen Bitch, drags you into her stories and takes you along on her fun and mayhem. And, Michael, I found you after going through all T S Paul's books. Oh happy ☺ day! Onward and forward.

Totally amazing. It was hard to read at first since it is the first book of the series I've read. It is a great book. I'm going back to trad the rest of the series.

It is the kind of book where you cheer the good guys, groan at their bad jokes and boo the villains. Plus there very thinly veiled political commentary.

I can't wait to start on the first book in the series-Death Becomes Her.

This is one of those stories that draws you in from the beginning and doesn't let you go. BA she's a perfect lead character to me. It's one of those story lines that leaves you sad when it's over because you are so drawn into their world. Even with fantasy characters, they are down to earth and you can identify with them.

Wow

Wow! That was a focused, concise completion of an era on Earth. Bethany Anne's mantra to protect first and attack second has remained true through fourteen books. Impressive that power did not corrupt her or her increasingly large crew. We meet some new enemies and resolve conflicts with older foes. So, what's in store for Book 15?

i just started and already it is giving me moments I don't remember. when did the dog get a mate? when did the team get implants that let them understand the dog? what does she mean the world has been attacking them for three years? when did they switch presidents? I really need to know. I haven't read the Frank Kurns, is that really a necessary thing now?
