Scarlett Chase is loving her latest temp job at a local children’s charity during the most magical time of the year. The office is bustling as workers help to provide Christmas gifts for needy children. The charity workers are also preparing for their big fundraising gala, which will raise the money needed to run all of their programs for the upcoming year.
Scarlett can’t think of anything better than bringing Christmas joy to children, but when one of her clients turns out to be the ex-girlfriend of her boyfriend, Austin Howard, the job becomes a bit awkward. Scarlett struggles to be supportive and understanding as Austin grows more and more concerned about his ex and the difficult family situation she is experiencing.
Things go from bad to worse when Santa Claus is found murdered in the middle of the fundraising gala, ruining the evening and threatening the survival of the charity.
The police hone in on Austin’s ex-girlfriend as their number one suspect, but Scarlett isn’t sure they’ve found the right culprit. Her feelings about the woman are complicated, and she is tempted to let the police handle this mystery. But pleas from Austin and her insatiable curiosity won’t let her sit idly by without poking around in search of some answers.
Christmas is coming, and Scarlett won’t rest until she has solved the crime and saved the charity.
Murder—unlike her job—isn’t temporary.
Crisis at the Christmas Party is the sixth book in the fun and clever Temp Jobs Cozy Mystery Series.
The story was well crafted and wonderfully written. I enjoyed the audio book with this story, the narrative was wonderfully performed. I can't wait until I start the next book. The series has been well thought out and great to enjoy.
I loved this book. To say I got caught up in the magic of this book is an understatement, I might have even had a tear in my eye at the end. The next time I have a party I want this author planning it, well maybe if she could leave out the murder. The story was so well written it felt like you were part of the celebrations and investigations. The situation and manipulation was also unfortunately easy to imagine and while not nice if you are living through it, it makes for a great story, especially told by this talented author. The mystery kept me guessing and crossing my fingers it wasn't going to be one of the characters I really liked. This series is quickly becoming one of my favourites. I love the characters and the different temp jobs Scarlett has, hopefully giving the author lots of scope for a lot more to come. Scarlett has had a number of jobs but this is the one that she is really loving. Not only can she use some of her skills to design and decorate for a big party but she gets to do it for children. The charity event is to raise money to help struggling families provide Christmas presents for there children. One of the struggling parents turns out to be Scarlett 's boyfriend Austin's ex girlfriend Ivy , who Scarlett can't help but feel sorry for after Ivy's ex in laws cause a seen at the office. Especially when it turns out he only took on the role as Santa to get close to his grandson. The night of the gala has a number of hitches but none as big as the murder of Santa. Could Ivy have killed her ex father in law? The police think so and the evidence points that way but Ivy pleads her innocence. Austin believes her and convinces Scarlett to look in to it but will he like what she finds? The more she looks into the case the more she learns the victim wasn't liked by anybody and as the suspect list grows, Scarlett even has to start looking at her friends and staying unemployed becomes the least of her worries. I like the narrator. She did a really good job of bringing the characters to life and giving them a voice. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.
This was such an awesome Christmas read that if anyone needs a good festive mystery, this one’s it. Scarlett had a pretty cool temp job she loved, and one of her own Christmas wishes came true eventually. I had a pretty good idea of whodunit and was right, but it was tons of fun reading how Scarlett solved it. Even her Dad, who was getting better by the day was able to lend a hand with the case. The ending was just so festive and awesome! Loved how the perp was caught and can’t wait to see what Scarlett’s next adventure brings!
I just finished reading the entire K.B. Blake Temp Jobs Cozy Mysteries series. These books were great - interesting and fun - with a good mystery or two within each one. It's best to read them in order, but each book does explain things for you if you're not reading them in order. The main character, Scarlett, is very smart and manages to figure things out as each book progresses. I've enjoyed these books very much, and will miss reading more about Scarlett. Thank you K.B. Blake for a wonderful six-book series!!!
K.B. Blake has outdone herself with this delightful, page-turning cozy mystery. I loved the wonderful characters, the amazing story, the excellent wrap up at the end, and Amber Battaglia’s brilliant performance. A joy to listen to.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
Crisis at the Christmas Party is the 6th book in the A Temp Job Cozy Mystery series and it is the best one yet! And it is a Christmas cozy mystery! This series keeps getting better and better! Scarlett Chase does temp Jobs to pay the bills while she is deciding what she wants to do for a career. She had her dream job as an Interior Designer but it didn't work out. In Crisis At The Christmas Party, Scarlett is working for a children's charity and she is really enjoying it. Her boss Elena is planning a Christmas Party for the children and A Gala to raise money to support the charity for the coming year. Scarlett and another volunteer Donna are helping get families signed up for the party. Scarlett is helping Ivy, a young mother with a 3 year old son Leo. Scarlett's boyfriend Austin Howard, shows up to see her and reveals he and Ivy seriously dated in college. This presents problems for Scarlett but I liked how she and Austin handled them. The Santa for the party shows up at the charity and creates problems. Then he ends up dead and Ivy is a suspect. This story moves along at a good pace. The characters are really likeable and the relationships are honest and realistic. The mystery kept me guessing and although I suspected the person I wasn't sure until near the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! #CrisisAtTheChristmasParty #ATempJobCozyMystery
