All I wanted for Christmas was for my most-loathed coworker to get hit by a bus.
Unfortunately, Santa decided to give him a promotion: my BOSS…
I couldn't afford to quit, so I suffered through his egotistical reign and hoped that my wish would be granted next season.
Does Santa even read our lists anymore?
Between an ice storm for the ages, getting arrested for “breaking and entering,” I wind up trapped inside his car for a never-ending road trip, and any time I think the journey home can't get worse, the universe throws me another wicked curveball.
This was a fast paced read with characters that are quick witted, sassy and fun. The dynamics between these characters were highly entertaining and extremely addictive. So addictive, I didn’t want it to end. I need more of them as well as all the others that came before in this holiday series by Whitney G. This is the perfect holiday read when all you have time for is a quick tidbit.
As ridiculous as this book was, I did not hate it. Surprise surprise!!!! 😱🤯 I’m going to chuck it up to a Christmas miracle because on a normal day I would’ve found all of this very cringey 😂
Oh my gosh. This one definitely needed to be longer!!! ESPECIALLY once we find out the twist!!! 😭😭😭
Taryn (29) and James (29) are comforting for a position when the book opens up, but he ends up getting 😬 and now he’s the CEO and her boss 😅. There’s animosity and tension between them 😬 but they’ll still keep it professional.
Fast forward to a year later… the holidays are coming and Taryn NEVER misses spending the holidays with her remaining family. But this time, it’ll be different because she and one of her high school friends agreed that if at 30 neither were married, well then they’ll get married 😅.
But James isn’t gonna let her go on this family vacation easily 👀. For once, he’s gonna go visit his own family (specifically his mother), and he needs Taryn to stay back and continue working 😅.
But she’s not 💁♀️. And he’s not 😅 and when a huge storm prevents them from flying out to their hometowns, James suggests they drive together 👀.
Let the forced-proximity, tension-filled trip begin 👀
What I liked: possible spoilers —the times I laughed or smiled 🤣. Oh. My. Gosh! The driving scene and fearing for James’s life had me 💀💀💀💀. I was crackling up so much 🤣🤣🤣. And bears? lol omg
—gray sweatpants will always have its own bullet 😮💨
—the podcasts?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡. Oh my gosh 🤣🤣🤣. James. You better pay attention 🤣💀
—the way James makes Taryn relax so she can fall asleep 🥵💦🔥. That’s right James 😮💨 who cares that you’re out in the woods and it’s in the middle of a storm 👀 you distract her 🫠🔥🤣🤣🤣
—seeing the MCs from the previous books
—the twist 👀
—OMD 😈 and JPPPPPP ness 😮💨. James gots to make sure to take his place
—the 🔥. We get two ish scenes. One is when James helps her relax in the woods and the other is when they finally succumb to their attraction 🔥
—that we get somewhat of an epilogue
What I didn’t like/needed more of: SPOILERS —more of an epilogue 😭. The one we get is only a year later 😭
—how short it is 😭. Soooooo much happens!!! This needed to be at least double the length to unpack all that was revealed at the very end! The twist that gets revealed needed to be developed more 😒
—safety talk? It is one of my pet peeves of mine when they go all the way and there’s no safety talk 😒. Like. When was the last time either one was with someone? Are they clean? It seems like he’s been pretty experienced, but then again he kind of tells us he’s not as loose as people think? I just needed more here 🤷♀️. It almost felt like he’s been celibate or maybe she has, but we just don’t know anything because it’s jevrr even talked about 😐
—the lack of buildup or foundation in some things 😬. For example, one day they’re watching a movie as if they’ve done it a lot, but we never see he before of this happening or get any indication that they were close in that respect. Maybe if we had buildup to this, it would’ve made sense
—the marriage pact 😅. Man. I wish we had more here too. Like. We barely saw these two talk and they’re supposed to get married? 😬
—the grammar/usage mistakes 😅
Overall, this was a fun, quick read. Yes I had to suspend my believe (camping gear?), but I still smiled ❤️
I love a good holiday novella. This one proves to be as funny and entertaining as I was hoping for.
For a hate-the-boss trope, it's quite tricky. These two co-workers hate each other, especially when he is promoted and she is not. Oh, the banter is diabolical :-D
However, the grumpy boss is too attached and caring to keep up pretenses. She's as snarky as expected and more, though feels too tempted to say no to his warmth and his naughty advances and his good deeds. Lovely couple on the road.
Yes, there's a road trip in the middle of a snow storm at Christmas time. Loved it so much.
There is a kind of subplot that adds a messy yet catchy interest to the romantic and seasonal craziness. Overall, I was hooked and into it from start to finish.
I read the previous novellas about other couples and I can recommend the whole series.
What an amazing story! Taryn is fighting for a position with her co-worker James, who are both well qualified. As we all know only one can get said position! As time goes on, after Decision is made, of course there are hard feelings. Throughout the course, there is so much back and forth between the two, constantly bickering especially when it comes to taking time off over holidays. This story is fun to read, it’s like you are right there with them, and you cannot wait for them to see what is happening between them. Loved this story.❤️❤️
This book was super sweet with just enough spice. I really thought these two hated one another, but then you see these moments where they were just so sweet and James was such a perfect book boyfriend. This story jumped around a lot of years and had a lot going on for a novella, but the little twist at the end I REALLY loved.
I loved this story but wished it had been longer, as I have questions! I really would have loved to know more about Taryn and James in the present - how they came to have the relationship that they had in the present.
This story had the author's trademark snappy dialogue, biting banter, and fast-paced storyline, but - and I mean this in the nicest possible way - I just wanted more!
This was another great read in this author's holiday series set around the lead up to Christmas. James and Tarryn love to hate each other and with both of them the top contenders to gain a big promotion, their competitiveness is high. As always with Whitney G., the snark, sarcasm and banter between the two main characters was on point with several laugh out moments for me. They both loved to hate on each other while actually being the other's go-to person. Although the story line is pretty predictable and some parts over the top (although I'll mention that I didn't find this one as exaggerated as some of this author's other books), that's what made it so fun to read and a terrific way to escape from life for a short while. Tarryn suffers from memory loss from a past trauma and while you'll get the gist of where the story is headed and some plot points unravel quickly with characters making super fast appearances, it's a novella so this is to be expected. I really liked Tarryn but as per usual with this author it was the male lead that stole the show for me. James was arrogant and confident without being a massive tool. While he was assertive with Tarryn, he still managed to be sweet and I always enjoy how Ms G. has her men chasing their love interest.
The story's a novella length so it only took a couple of hours to finish it but it was a terrific way to kick off my holiday reading and get me in the Christmas spirit. You don't need to have read any other books in this series to pick up this one but fans of the series will be happy to take a quick trip back to grandma's resort and see a familiar name or two be mentioned. I really enjoy this author's books - they're a great, entertaining stories that serve perfectly as palate cleansers that are fun and quick to read and always hit the spot with a happy ending. This one was no different and I loved it.
I'm a sucker for Whitney G.'s books. The Office Games is a fast-paced holiday read packed with quick-witted, sassy, and fun characters. The dynamic between them is undeniably entertaining and incredibly addictive—so much so that I didn’t want it to end!
However, I couldn’t help but wish it had been longer. The short length of the story made it feel as though the plot was rushed, and I didn’t get a full sense of Taryn and James’s relationship development. Their backstory lacked depth, leaving me wanting more richness to truly connect with their journey.
While this installment was enjoyable, it would have benefited from more detail and time to explore the characters’ growth and romance. That said, it’s still a fun, festive read.
This is the 3rd Holiday Book and the Office Games is hilarious, provides banter, and you feel an underlying connection between Taryn and James but the backstory you would not believe!
As expected the book takes place at Christmas and the characters are driving corporate America! With that being said Taryn always spends Christmas with her family and is not willing to give up that time for anyone! When the new boss is appointed he mandates Holiday work for everyone but Taryn is not staying in the city this holiday.
Delayed flights, road trip with an unexpected colleague and a marriage pact made years ago! This is an easy / light read and just what you need to get into the Holiday Spirit!
I’m so disappointed. This is my most disliked book out of the series. And it’s sucks. I really had I hopes for it too after reading about Taryn in the first book. This one feels like a let down.
It’s like the entire story was glossed over. I don’t feel like I really got a chance to see Taryn and James’s relationship blossom. Their backstory didn’t feel solid.
some thoughts: - decent holiday novella! would rec for a quick read - this was my first book by this author and the writing style was definitely interesting. sometimes it felt like the chapters ended before they began - i couldn't even get mad at the H's assistant coming onto him cause she was hilarious lol - i think i'll go try the other novellas in this series
Gotta love a holiday romance by Whitney! It’s been awhile since I’ve read something I could read straight through. I ate this book up!
James and Taryn were so fun to read with all the banter and sexual tension. You’ll be screaming at them to finally get together already. I also loved the twist at the end!
L'idée était pas mal mais même si c'est une novela, mais leur relation est trop rapide et manque de sens. D'un coup ils couchent ensemble et avouent leurs sentiments. On passe de rien à tout MDRRR
I love Whitney’s short fun holiday stories! This is the third book in the Holiday Homecoming series.
Such a cute fun story! I really enjoyed this one just like I enjoyed the other two in the series. No one writes banter like Whitney. I love it! These characters hated one another but not really. 😉 There was even a little surprise twist in this one regarding Taryn and James. I really liked that. Each time she releases a story in this series I think there’s no way I’ll like the new one as much as the last but I’m always wrong. This is my favorite one! I hope she continues to do these little holiday stories.
❤️🥺🤌🏻Love Love Love JAMES!!!! Man has patience of Saint!? One of my favourite series! A quick christmas read with fun loving banter! How these men love to tease their woman🙂↕️
If you haven't read this series just go ahead and read it!
This is a cute, funny, & quick holiday romance! At first, it appears to be enemies to lovers, but more is slowly revealed! I loved the road trip in the story, and the banter back and forth between James & Taryn! Her cousin, Georgia, was a funny side character in this one! Loved that it all wrapped up nicely as a HEA!! The ending LOL!
Thank you to the author for a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review.
… stop wasting your time with Whitney G. books. They ALWAYS disappoint you. Sure her writing may have been decent on the first couple books you read by her 8 years ago but her recent work has been BLOODY AWFUL. Weak plots, cringe-worthy dialogue, utterly unlikable characters…It is not worth your time.
Whitney G.’s The Office Games delivers another delightful, fast-paced read perfect for the holiday season. In this third installment of her holiday-themed books, we’re introduced to Taryn and James, two coworkers whose professional relationship is hilariously fraught with tension, witty banter, and undeniable chemistry as they both compete for the same promotion. What starts as a typical work rivalry quickly morphs into a journey of self-discovery, friendship, and—eventually—love, as they navigate delayed flights, a road trip with forced proximity, and a complication from a marriage pact made years ago and an ongoing block of Taryn’s memories.
The banter between Taryn and James is one of the book’s biggest highlights. Their back-and-forths are sharp, humorous, and full of that deliciously awkward energy that makes for such a compelling read. You’re constantly rooting for them, not just because of their witty exchanges but also because you can feel the underlying connection beneath all the playful hostility. Their love/hate relationship brings a perfect mix of humor and tension, keeping you engaged from start to finish.
While the story is breezy and light-hearted, it does an excellent job of building anticipation for the relationship’s evolution, despite its relatively short length. The delayed/cancelled flights provide opportunities for heartfelt moments and an unexpected road trip adds a fun dynamic, even if those moments are fleeting. The marriage pact subplot, while a little predictable, adds an endearing layer to the story, and it’s easy to get caught up in wondering whether these two will finally admit their feelings.
That said, The Office Games could have benefited from being a bit longer. The chemistry between Taryn and James is so enjoyable that you almost want more depth and development from the characters. The pacing is fast, but sometimes it feels like a little more exploration of their backstory and the nuances of their relationship would’ve made their eventual realization of love feel even more satisfying.
Overall, this is a fantastic easy read that perfectly balances humor with a touch of romance. It’s light, fun, and provides just the right amount of holiday cheer, even if it leaves you wishing for a little more. Fans of office romances and witty dialogue will definitely enjoy this one, and while it’s short, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening. If you’re looking for a quick escape with some hilarious banter and a dose of holiday magic, The Office Games delivers in spades—but don’t be surprised if you wish it were just a little longer!
This one.... Oh my.. I don't think I've ever fallen so hard for a novella before and also so freaking invested in characters that were part of a quick read.
I know Whitney can make me fall for anything she writes but this one just proves that she doesn't need a big book to make me fall madly in love with her writing.
I can't stop obsessing over James and Taryn, over how absolutely nuts they made me go over their enmity; the kind where they not only couldn't stand the other one but were constantly plotting the other's deletion.😅
I was here for all the hot tension and sparks that were flying between them but wouldn't acknowledge it at all.
I didn't see the road trip part coming and it was such a freaking delight to read and experience the enemies slowly melting and confessing through their eyes and touches what they have always wanted and that's each other.
We also have some suspense sprinkled in and let me tell you, when that twist comes I was freaking screaming with shock and excitement because... Oh my.... It was perfection.
The Spice though.... Oh my... The way these two would look at each other and especially the things James would say.... I was melting with his words and seriously wanted to be inside the book and take Taryn's place.🔥🥵
Ahhh.... FREAKING OBSESSED OVER THIS BOOK. I really wish that Whitney gets struck with writing more of this book because I wouldn't mind having more of James and Taryn and their electrifying chemistry and sizzling intimacy.
This one is definitely going in my Top Favourite Holiday books List and Reread favourite book List and also my top Favourites List of this year. Abso-freaking-lutely loved loved this one. 5+ 🌟 for this sizzling ride.♥️♥️♥️♥️
Whitney G's The Office Games is a heartwarming Christmas novella that combines the spirit of the holidays with a captivating workplace drama. Taryn Stone and James Calloway, two colleagues, are fierce competitors for the same promotion to CEO. Amidst their professional rivalry, the festive season brings them closer in unexpected ways.
Taryn Stone, a woman who survived a severe train accident years ago, has been living with memory loss ever since. James Calloway, a colleague, becomes a significant part of her life, and their relationship is at the heart of the story. Both are up for the same promotion, a role that would allow them to impact their workplace significantly. The current CEO, Taylor Adeleman, is known for being the worst boss ever. The introduction is by the best secretary, Sandra Ericson@Magnolia Marketing.
For those unfamiliar with Whitney G., prepare for a delightful dose of sarcastic humor and witty banter between the characters. Whitney G. never fails to entertain her readers; this novella is no exception. Happy Holidays!
Taryn was not promoted last year and she hates her co-worker James who is now her boss so when he orders her to stay and work for Christmas she attempts to take a company car so that she can drive to Colorado when she is arrested James decides not to press charges and insists the two of them drive there together. During the road trip they discuss her marriage pact that she made with her friend Cameron and the fact that she lost most her memories from high school. They end up sleeping together and fall for one another and then Taryn remembers that she and James had a relationship in high school and have now found each other once again. This book was sweet and cute and I was glad that the two of them got together. However, I was not surprised that they knew each other and had suspected that James was hiding that fact from her. I was glad she didn't marry Cameron the manipulative asshole and that her memories are starting to come back. I always love a cute Christmas novella from Whitney G.

Taryn hates James who got the promotion at work that she felt should have been her's. James makes no secret he's attracted to Taryn while she covers her feelings with snark and sarcasm. He is terrified she is going to fulfill a pact she made with a high school friend to marry if neither has found "the one" by age 30.
Forced to ride to Colorado together for Christmas is torture for Taryn and exactly what James wants. Having time with her, able to talk things out, reveals a lot and fills in all the fine lines. Hate and love are both strong emotions that are very close together on that fine line.
This sweet second chance novella is a joy to read and will leave you with a soft smile on your face. This Office Series is such a fun read!
Office Games by Whitney G. is a gem! The third novella in the Holiday Homecoming Series is by far the best. It is the story of combative rivals, Taryn and James, working together at a marketing agency and both up for the same promotion, who end up on a cross-country trip together. On a good day at the office, the two spar incessantly but caught in a car for days on end with each other, the tension is at an all-time high!
O, the banter! Be still my heart! I loved every minute of it! The snide comments coming out of Taryn’s mouth only seemed to encourage James. You are rooting for them to get it on from the beginning!
This novella is fast-paced, exciting, “don’t want to put it” quality makes it a winner! It’s an easy read and well worth your time. Whitney G., you have done it again!
Third installment in the Holiday Homecoming season brings us a fun enemies to lovers road trip novella. Great chemistry leads to some heated romance in this story of office co-workers vying for that big promotion but there can be only one boss and it's not going to be Taryn. Thanks, Santa.
On top of that there's a snowpocalypse, a canceled flight, and a long long road trip together in a car. Will they make it in time for Christmas or will their special brand of games lead them to unexpected results? The only guarantee is that things are never ever what they seem when it comes to a Whitney G romance.
Spicy and fun and just in time for Christmas 2024. Take a break from your busy holiday preparation and curl up with this one. I think you will be glad that you did.
Taryn has this deep seated hatred for James. He has gotten so far under her skin that it's all she can think about. When he becomes the boss, she could pretty much be fired for insubordination but she still continues to be employed. I got the feeling throughout the story that there was some past connection between James and Taryn, but Taryn lost some memories when the train wreck that took her parents also took her memories. This was a fast read. The banter between the characters was good. I love anything Christmas related so reading about this love/hate office romance combined with unsanctioned time off and a crazy road trip was a great way to get my holiday romance fix.
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
