Take a Bow

Don't call it a comeback. Actually, please don't call it a comeback. Gisele (known just as Gisele) is nervous enough. The child star turned teen idol turned popstar is nervous enough for her forthcoming album. The thought alone sends her into a panic and into the arms of a tall, dark, and handsome stranger.

Liam Baker is in a bit of a transition. A straight laced West Point grad trying to re-adjust to civilian life, he's dragged to Spain by his brother and ends up saving a celebrity. The night to remember becomes a turning point in his life as he finds himself unable to escape from the orbit of the trouble singer. He doesn't know if it's her fiery personality or the vulnerability he occasionally glimpses, but he can't stay away.

Take a Bow is forbidden bodyguard romance novella with a guaranteed HEA.

I want to start by saying this book was very well written. Not sure if this is the author's debut or not but she can definitely write. Unfortunately for me though, the execution of this story really fell flat. I love a good bodyguard romance with the usual tropes but Gisele from the very beginning didn't need to be protected or saved from anything. There were never instances of wild fans unexpectedly intruding or TMZ showing up in the shadows to get an explosive story. There were speculation headlines but from Gisele's POV she was just living her daily, exhausting life.
I also felt there was no chemistry between her and Liam. They seemed to really dislike each other when they first met again 3 months later after he got her to a hospital when she passed out in a bathroom. I don't even think it could be lust at first sight cause Liam was very stoic almost the entire time. And then on top of that Gisele was mean to him for no reason a lot.
Most of the book is spent at this beach house where they are shooting a music video and it honestly didn't have too much to do with the core plot, or what I thought the plot should be. Again, there was no danger in Gisele's life so not sure why she needed a bodyguard?
The overall story didn't have a logical beginning, middle and end for me and I definitely read this more clinically than actually feeling immersed in the story.

Full disclosure, I'm the author, so consider this very biased. Take a Bow (named after the hit Madonna song) follows pop singer, Gisele and the rigid bodyguard named Liam who finds himself throttled into her orbit after a chance encounter in Ibiza. Gisele has a lot of secrets, and Liam is determined to reveal them one by one.

Do you like hot bodyguards? Unofficial Irish triplets? Foiling dastardly schemes? Swimming with pigs? Then this will be up your alley. It's a quick read that still manages to tell a lot of story and reference a lot of great music along the way. There are echoes of female singers who have struggled in the industry like Mariah, Britney, Kylie, Beyoncé, and Madonna, but Gisele remains distinct even among them. Seeing her melt Liam's icy demeanor is a true highlight.

Liam also has two hot brothers that are inevitably getting their own spin offs.

For the most part, dug it

This is more a 3.5 for me but I round up instead of down. Overall, this was cool. There were some humorous moments. Strangely, I liked how stoic Liam was. Unfortunately I really didn't see it between him and Gisele. I just didn't feel the chemistry; it actually felt a little forced... like it happened because that's what the story called for and that's it. That's just my perception, of course.

The dynamic and rapport between the Baker brothers was actually more entertaining to me than that between Liam and Gisele. There were some inconsistencies (like Gisele being in a tan dress one minute and a tank top and jeans the next with no mention of a clothes change, plus they were in a restaurant) and some things felt a little glossed over. And the ending left a lot to be desired for me.

Even so, I enjoyed this more than I didn't.
