It started well but there were so many details that didn’t make sense that it took me out of the story way too often for me to appreciate the story.

At first when I noticed those things I thought “ok let’s move on” but there were too many in the end:

- when they’re in the car to go to the cabin we learn that Murphy is in the backseat. Who the hell is Murphy? We’ve never heard of him until now. I guessed a dog but none were mentioned until then (I double checked) It was never explained so I assumed it was Henry’s but apparently it’s Jackson’s since he has him in the end 🤔

- Things and places keep changing in the same scene. Their first night at the cabin we see them having diner and work on the sofa but we never learn that they changed to their pjs. But a few hours later when they wake up after falling asleep on the sofa they’re in their pajamas?? Which happens again later on. Also, at one point they’re on a sofa but then the mattress is mentioned and then again it’s the sofa. Which one is it??

- Jackson says at the beginning he wants to call Henry Daddy but never does (despite Henry using the word as dirty talk) Why mention it at all?

- I thought it was so weird that Henry went with dirty talk so suddenly without any hint that Jackson would be ok with that

- For their first time Henry gets lube and condom out but we never see if the condom is used or taken off and then the other times it’s clearly not used at all without any discussion at all 🙄 Apparently the mention of condoms once is enough to keep away the diseases…

-Before they go to the cabin Jackson goes home to his family apartment. We can guess that it’s not big since they struggle with money but it doesn’t bother him to have some solo fun and cry out some dirty things, with his parents not far o_O

- Near the end of the book suddenly he tells Henry that growing up “sex was kind of shameful thing, I’m still learning to be ok with my body” It would make sense if this was not the first time we learn about this 75% in the story! He never said anything about this and was fine with sex the other times (and had sex toys at home etc…)

- What drove me nuts was the accident. So Henry has a bad fall in the snow and hurts his wrist/arm so bad they think it might be broken (but can’t call an ambulance because of the storm) I’d imagine it means the pain is really bad right? Well yes it’s so bad that he can’t eat popcorn or drink his hot cocoa (even with his unarmed hand) BUT 15 minutes later it’s totally ok to have sex despite of it. And not just being passive, no no. Henry grabs Jackson’s ass, fingers him and f*ck him…Make it make sense 🤔The next day he’s still in pain though depending on the activities BUT again by magic he’s totally fine to drive when they leave the next day?! Oh and he never ends up seeing a doctor in the end so I hope it was not too serious 😂 We’ll never know!

- The calendar seems a bit off too. They go on a saturday, spend at least 2 nights there but when they part they say “see you on Monday”??
When they part Jackson is all “I’m going to talk to Henry about what I want” and then he doesn’t

- The way they talk about their situation (the fact that they’re boss/employee) is really weird IMO but sure. A very easy fix apparently

- Jackson’s parents can’t work anymore because of a car accident years ago but we’ll never know what exactly happened to them. I’m sorry but this sounds very childish to say “they were in an accident/they can’t work/they’re ok” Why? What happened to them exactly? As a disabled person I rolled my eyes at this simplification. It sounded like something a kid would write.

- The logistic of the party at the end was ridiculous (they don’t exchange basic info like what time/ what room…) but sure…At this point I was not even surprised

- But the lack of consent and of realism in the last sex scene was the last straw for me. Jackson just suddenly decides to top Henry (without asking him at all) and goes in with no lube, in one go?? I’m torn between the WTH man and how easy it was to just slide in like that 🤣

Also, with the way it ends I’m confused by how Jackson is supposed to keep helping his family financially? They need his money badly apparently so don’t know how they’ll do in the next few years with his situation changing

Overall it sounds like the author wanted to throw some random tropes here and there without exploring them really (daddy kink, the accident, money problems, the body image thing,…)

I would honestly rate this a 2 but I don’t want to be mean and ruin the author’s rating. It was not bad, it just needed work. And all the movie titles used as “to read if you liked this” are not the same style at all btw.

What a cute holiday read!🎄☃️
We have Henry, who is a lawyer, and Jaxon, his assistant. They make a great pair tackling cases together, but there’s some unspoken tension between them. They crave one another, but neither have made a move or said anything due to the fact that they work together.
Henry wants to go on a weekend retreat to his family’s cabin to clear his mind so he can obtain a fresh perspective while working on a case. His desire for Jaxon gets the best of him, so he invites him along. At first they both try to fight the feelings they have for each other, but they eventually give in, due to not being able to resist each other any more - especially since they are stuck in the cabin together for a few days during a snowstorm.
This novella gives us spice, some fluffy sweetness, and heartwarming moments as these two fall in love. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention the good boy scenes with Murphy🐶.

❄️Thoughts❄️

Firstly, thank you to Chase for my ARC. Below are my spoiler free honest thoughts.

I could feel the sexual tension from the first spilled coffee and I was rooting for both Henry and Jaxon. This is a great Christmas story, but trust me, you'll never see tinsel the same way again.

This books starts just before Christmas and concludes just after NYE and the NYE party🥹🥹

Loved this holiday romance!

Chase St. Clare’s debut MM holiday romance novel captured my heart. This story was sweet with lots of passionate moments and left me wanting more. The two MCs had so much chemistry but were afraid to jeopardize the working relationship. However, the desire and strong feelings they have had for so long proved too much to ignore. They end up on a working retreat where they discover how good they can be together if they can overcome the obstacles in front of them. This novella delivers the spice, romance and heartwarming moments of the holiday season. This is a must read for anyone who loves a holiday romance with lots of spice! I know we are going to see more great novels from Chase St. Clare for years to come!

Inconsistent

Plot holes, inconsistencies, errors- I rolled my eyes too often while reading. If this had been erotica then I'd be slow to judge but the author chose to make this a smut with plot romance so I'm struggling. The plot was a jumble of things shoved into a novella that could have happily found success with simple forced proximity.

SPOILERS

Henry went from Mr. Prince to Henry in a matter of sentences, low build-up and lack of familiarity gave a rushed feeling fairly immediately. Jax lives with his parents but the author wrote "apartment" plus never elaborated on Max's age other than to tell us he's old enough to drink and there's a significant age gape (Henry's 35). Murphy showed up out of nowhere then was missing from Christmas (seriously was he in the car or what?). Henry broke his wrist but didn't need an ice pack or pain relief, then used his hands (plural) during smut scenes. Had a broken wrist while snowed in then went directly to his sister's house for Christmas instead of an ER. And his family didn't notice his broken wrist either, so...? Then drama, work, and back at it. Like I said, too much jumbled together in this messy plot.

This is 2ish stars but it's the author's first book so I'll give a neutral 3.

What a great holiday romance. Chase is a new to me author and I can tell I will like his future mm romance. This book was two mcs who realized that they had strong feelings for one another. They had chemistry fur so long but finally took the chance to act on them. Truly this book was filled with romance and holiday splendor. It also includes the sweetest dog. Although I must say I thought the dog belonged to Henry and not Jaxson. I would love to see this author succeed in his field. It's hard to find a true mm romance writer who's a male. But Chase has the beginnings of success.

❄️Cute dog

This is a short and sweet, steamy holiday romance. It’s clear that Henry and Jaxon have chemistry for days. They want each other from page one, and it takes getting snowed into a fabulous cabin to bring them together and let them explore their feelings.
I love the way they play off each other and the way Henry supports Jax as they discuss the case they’re working on.

Not the style of writing for me. Repetitive and a few things don't make sense. Like I'm confused if Jaxon lives in his parents house or an apartment. And during his masturbation scene he's yelling out about Daddy. How awkward if his parents overheard that. Anyway, just wasn't working for me.

I wanted to love this book, and I did like it, but it needs some attention to detail. It seemed like a section was removed and then subsequent scenes weren't adjusted accordingly. There were just too many issues for me to rate this above a 3.

I have a few favorite tropes, snowed in is high on that list, I just love it. This one was no disappointment. I found the writing a tiny bit simplistic but it was still an enjoyable read.

The cover is obviously AI. And I think it might have been written by AI too because there are so many inconsistencies and errors it's unbelievable.

💕 Chase’s words flow seamlessly through the pages as the notes of a piano sonata. Like water flowing through a babbling brook hugs every turn as it speeds and slows, making its way around every rock and obstacle.

You can hear the music as the words jump off the page, taking us on a magical holiday tale of an employer-assistant relationship where time has taken initial physical attraction and built with it layers of admiration and respect.

Henry and Jaxon’s desires for one another morph into one that harbours both an emotional and mental need to be near the other. Neither of them wants to jeopardize their working relationship, but their desires prove too powerful to hold back when they become snowed in together in a secluded cabin in the woods. From the crackling fire to the falling snow, an enchanting world forms around them as they delve deeper into each other.

This story will quickly become a holiday tradition. 💕

This was such a sweet and cozy holiday read. Perfect for this time of year.
- Quick paced, spicy, and heartwarming.

It's short read, so it has a bit of an insta-love vibe, which is not usually my favorite - but it worked here. It didn't feel forced or unrealistic.

I enjoyed witnessing Henry and Jax navigate their attraction, current circumstances, and relationship dynamic. And Murphy was a cute added bonus.

I'm looking forward to more from Chase.
