Gillian Bouras is an Australian married to a Greek. From the ambiguous position of a foreign wife, she writes of life in a Greek village. Her fellow villagers fondly regard her, the migrant in their midst, as something of a curiosity. They, in turn, are the source of both her admiration and her perplexity.
I don't normally like reading memoirs, but I had something in common with this one, in that I am an Australian women married to a Greek Cypriot man and I have travelled with him to what he calls home. We have considered living there for a few years. We have so far only resided in Australia. I really enjoyed Gillian's writing style and found the collection of recollections entertaining and ones I could really relate to.
