A well researched effort by one of the early U.S Film Historians, Ted Huff. It is sometimes hard to place this book in a specific category, it is part Biography, and part evaluation of Chaplin's production methods. While the events of his life are largely used to fill space between Huff's film commentary, it does provide a backdrop to what could be considered Chaplin's mindset at the time of production. An excellent filmography by Huff for the time, it does provide the first consistent Critical look at Chaplin's output during all of the various stages of his career (with the exception of Limelight and A Countess from Hong Kong which were both filmed after the book's publication).
