French socialist and political activist, notable for his revolutionary theory of Blanquism, which believes a revolution can be best accomplished by a small group of avant-garde conspirators.
Auguste Blanqui (1805-1881) was a French revolutionary whose motto was "The duty of a revolutionary is to fight always, to fight anyway, to fight to extinction. He was faithful to this motto. He participated in July 1830, May 1839, the revolution of February 1848. During the Commune, he was in prison, and spent a total of 33 years, 7 months and 16 days in prison, not counting forced residence, high surveillance and exile.
It was in 1868-1869 that he wrote these instructions for taking up arms, which were not published until 1930.
It is a purely military manual, leaving aside the political and social question to devote itself to the study of the barricades and various tactics, in the cities and particularly Paris.
Auguste Blanqui explain in this short text what caused the defeat of the revolutionaries during Les Barricades of Paris, he also write a complete and precise organization for future barricades.
In this book, Blanqui started by talking about the problems a of the revolutionaries : they don't have any organization. He exposed every problems and compared them with why it is not a problem for the government soldiers
Despite the lack of organization , Blanqui said that the people are stronger than any soldier since they don't fight because they have too but because they want it and fight for their ideas and liberties.
You can find a clear organization of what a functional barricades system should be, with schema sand everything. You can also find the best choice of arms for the people with all the solutions to acquires them.
My personal favorite moment of this text is when Blanqui talks about the "revolutionaries" bourgeois, he writes about it in such a pretty but clear and remarquable way, we can really feel the spirit of the revolution, and this is what is lacking in the bourgeois's mind, they only want to fight by writing texts but like Blanqui wrote :
" They don't see that the strength is the only guarantee for liberty, that a country is a slave when the citizens ignore the weapons's knowledge and abandon this privilege to an executive and to a corporation."
This book is really fast to read but asolutely fascinating.
"Le Devoir d'un revolutionnaire, c'est la lutte toujours, la lutte quand même, la lutte jusqu'a extinctions."
