But there is hope for the suffering citizens: Juliet Capulet survived the massacre and now turns her sword against the wealthly Montagues in an effort to aid the poor. When she meets the son of Lord Montague at the Rose Ball, she discovers that he is similarly disturbed by his father’s cruelty. In 1999, GONZO merged with Digimation to form Gonzo Digimation Holdings, one of Japan's premier digital animation production companies. The new merged company's name was Gonzo Digimation. This name was changed back to Gonzo in July 2004.
Shouji Murahama first imagined the company as a group of ruffians; therefore, he chose the name "GONZO" as it means "ruffian" in the Italian language.

It was SOO AWESOME!!!

Epic storyline even though it was loosely based on the real story.

The illustrations were so COOL! I wish I could draw like that :3

Original rating: 2.5 stars.

This is a review for both volumes 1 and 2.

I dived into this book expecting that I would love it or at least like it, but unfortunately this manga isn't for me. Though I could see its comparison to the orignal Romeo and Juliet, I just wasn't a fan of the insta-love, and I couldn't root for Romeo and Juliet's romance. I also don't know if it's just me or it's just because I'm reading too fast, but the story is quite fast-paced. In fact, it's too fast-paced that I couldn't digest each scene one by one and I was thrown tons of scenes all at once to the point that I'm left a bit confused.

Once I reached the ending of Volume 2, I couldn't feel a thing. I just didn't feel attached to the characters. I did find Romeo and Juliet's fate a bit courageous and sweet, but nope, it didn't give me feels.

Romeo x Juliet just wasn't for me, but it could be for you, if you like the extremely-cheesy romance shoujo types in mangas.

Luulin aluksi kaksiosaisen "Romeo x Julia" (Sangatsu Manga, 2013) -mangan olevan sarjakuvaversio William Shakespearen näytelmästä, mutta kyseessä olikin Neo Verona -nimiseen kaupunkiin sijoittuva uudelleentulkinta Capuletien ja Montaguen sukujen välisestä vihanpidosta. Nyt mukaan on sotkettu myös fantasiaelementtejä.

COM-nimimerkin taakse kätkeytyvän sarjakuvataiteilijan visioista on paikoitellen vaikea ottaa selkoa, sen verran sekavaa piirrosjälki on, eikä juonessakaan tunnu aina olevan oikein tolkkua.

This is just too far from the original story for me to like it much. I can tolerate it, but not love it. 3 stars for average.
-----------------------------
Juliet of House of Capulet's family was killed 14 years ago by Duke Montague, who is a power-hungry asshole. Now, she has to crossdress all her life to protect her identity. That is, until she is 16, and has already fallen in love with the Duke's son, Romeo of Montague. Then, she finds out the truth, and leads a rebellion.
But, is it too late? Will she be able to save the people from Montague? And, will her alter-ego keep causing unwarranted death, like with the doctor? Will her enemy prove to be her soulmate or will their love never flourish?
-----------------------------
They sure took alot of liberties with this story.

I watched the anime when I was younger and when I discovered that there was a manga, I couldn't keep my hand off it, especially when the art is much prettier.

But, as much as I loved the overall story and the characters, it was definitely not the same experience. Events that in the anime took one episode or more and that gave you the time to process all that was happening, in the manga were very fast and lacked the right depth and, dare I say, tragedy.

In the end, it was kind of disappointing, though the lovely art made it all better.

Shakespeare's brilliant work is being honourably potrayed in this new twist to a well known story. Unlike many other adaptions, this portrayal merely expands the story, using direct lines from the original play. Loyal Shakespeare followers shall not despair when combing through this epic retelling or rather additional content 😘
