Will you go with me? Yes, to the ends of the earth and back again.
Cal
Cal made a coding mistake that got him arrested and far away from Preston, his horrible boyfriend.
After over a year in jail, he’s touch-starved and afraid. Not of doing his parole in the wilds of Wyoming, but that Preston will come and force him back to Denver.
In the valley, when Cal is assigned to Zeke Malloy’s team, his luck starts to change because Zeke is patient and kind, both with the horses and with Cal.
Cal doesn’t trust anyone now, except Cal’s crush on Zeke starts with a single word of kindness. A warm touch. And the smile in those green eyes.
Zeke
After a horse fell on him, Zeke’s bronc riding days are over. His girlfriend wants a buckle-wearing man, not a broken one, and leaves him.
Zeke finds he doesn’t care that he’s alone now. But he can’t stop thinking about the time Galen Parnell asked him out, as if there was something Galen saw in Zeke.
Was he gay?
When Zeke starts to work with Cal Tamalin, the only parolee on his team, he begins to think maybe Galen had been on to something.
Getting close to Cal can only spell disaster, and surely Zeke’s had enough of those, right?
He shouldn’t take the risk, but doesn’t think his heart can resist the biggest blue eyes Zeke has ever seen.
The Cowboy and the Hacker is a story of forbidden love with hurt/comfort, bi-awakening, mutual rescue, only one tent, moccasins, a bear, maybe two bears, two men and three ponies on a long, lonesome ride, and of course an HEA. It is book 5 in the Farthingdale Valley series but can be read as a standalone.
Jackie North has been writing stories since grade school and spent years absorbing the mainstream romances that she found at her local grocery store. She also wanted to put her English degree to good use and write romance novels, because for years she’s had a never-ending movie of made-up love stories in her head that simply wouldn’t leave her alone.
As fate would have it, she discovered m/m romance and decided that men falling in love with other men was exactly what she wanted to write books about.
She creates characters who are a bit flawed and broken, who find themselves on the edge of society, and maybe a few who are a little bit lost, but who all deserve a happily ever after. (And she makes sure they get it!)
She likes long walks on the beach, the smell of lavender and rainstorms, and enjoys sleeping in on snowy mornings. She is especially fond of pizza and beer and, when time allows, long road trips with soda fountain drinks and rock and roll music. In her heart, there is peace to be found everywhere, but since in the real world this isn’t always true, Jackie writes for love.
The Cowboy and the Hacker by Jackie North is book 5 in the Farthingdale Valley series. I adore the valley and the ranch. I know that when I pick up one of these books I am going to be treated to a slow burn romance full of kindness, hard work, and spectacular characters. Callahan Tamalin was convicted for hacking an elderly gentleman’s bank account. However, he only did it to escape an abusive relationship. The desperation that he must have felt to be willing to go to jail in order to leave Preston was unimaginable. Zeke Malloy is new to the Valley coming on to lead the ex-cons in riding. He is assigned Cal as his employee and the two soon develop feelings for each other. It was very sweet how Zeke looked at Cal like an abused horse. He knew when to push and when to step back by paying attention to Cal’s body language. It was just a beautiful relationship that developed between the two. I was so afraid that Zeke would deny himself (and Cal) what both of them truly needed. However, the ending was just as sweet as the romance. I sincerely hope that Jackie continues to tell stories from the ranch and the valley. They are always so enjoyable and there is even something peaceful about picking up one of these stories. I love how by the end there is always an appreciation for nature and a deep love between the MCs. I cannot wait to return to the valley even if it’s just a reread.
I received an ARC from the Neon Rainbow Readers for my honest review
Thanks Jackie & Neon Rainbow for my copy of The Cowboy & The Hacker. This is book 5 of the Farthingdale Valley series, it can be read as a standalone.
The Cowboy & The Hacker 🥹🥹🥹 was an emotional read. Cal was so brave, Zeke was steadfast but ultimately also lost. I rejoiced at their HEA even if they did got in their own way occasionally.
With 2 epilogues my heart was so happy. Cals epilogue updated us on their life post Farthingdale Valley & Zeke epilogue was so emotional and beautiful.
Things I ❤️ 🐴 Second Chances 🐴 Dual POV 🐴 2 Epilogues 🐴 1 Tent 🐴 Mutual Rescue 🐴 Forbidden Love 🐴 Discovery
This might be my favorite. 🥰 This series is the sweetest, and I would love to live in a world where people like the ones in Farthingdale Valley existed ❤️
Cal committed a computer crime so that he could get out of an abusive relationship. He served is time and is now in the program at Farthingdale Valley. His expectations are what every parolee feels and that is, to think of the worst. Zeke is an ex-Broc rider who has realized that it's time to hang up that life and start a new one but he doesn't know what. He's the new team leader and he's going to make the best of it. That is until his team arrives and it's only Cal. Cal is readily drawn to Zeke and Zeke is beginning to question his feelings towards Cal. Cal has strong feelings for the Bronc rider but he believes that Zeke is straight. Everything moves slowly at first, but that's sort of short-lived. I only wish that the author would've written as to how Preston faired out with the law; we don't need a book for Preston.
Team leader, Zeke, and fresh from jail, Cal, discover they are their best selves, together. Cal had abusive ex, and he needed a place to feel safe. Zeke was the new team leader and knew what to do to give Cal what his brain and body craved. It was like handling new horses, in a way. We also see Zeke struggle with A being attracted to a man for the first time. There are tough situations and challenges that will be met. I liked each man, and the deep thoughts they have, which are described in wonderful details. We see the actions and words that sooth each other’s hearts. Their sexy times are light. The double epilogues are super satisfying. ENJOY !
The Cowboy and the Hacker by Jackie North is the fifth book in the Farthingdale Valley series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone novel. This story beautifully blends elements of romance, personal growth, and the healing power of love.
The plot follows Cal Tamalin, a hacker who made a coding mistake that led to his arrest and a year in jail. Now on parole, Cal is sent to the wilds of Wyoming, far from his toxic ex-boyfriend. There, he meets Zeke Malloy, a former bronc rider whose career ended after a severe injury. Zeke, now working with horses, is patient and kind, qualities that draw Cal to him.
As they work together, a deep bond forms between them. Cal's initial fear and mistrust gradually give way to affection and trust, thanks to Zeke's unwavering support. Zeke, on the other hand, begins to question his own sexuality and finds himself drawn to Cal in ways he never expected.
The novel is rich with themes of forbidden love, mutual rescue, and personal discovery. It features a mix of tender moments and emotional challenges, all set against the backdrop of the rugged Wyoming landscape. The story includes elements like hurt/comfort, bi-awakening, and the classic "only one tent", making it a compelling read for fans of these tropes.
Cal and Zeke’s relationship is built on small acts of kindness and understanding. As they spend more time together, their bond deepens, and they begin to rely on each other for emotional support. Zeke's unwavering support helps Cal feel safe and valued, while Cal's presence brings a new sense of purpose and joy to Zeke's life.
The story beautifully captures their journey from tentative friendship to a deep, romantic connection, highlighting themes of forbidden love, mutual rescue, and personal discovery. Their relationship is a testament to the healing power of love and the importance of finding someone who truly understands and accepts you.
Jackie North's writing style is characterised by its emotional depth, vivid descriptions, and heartfelt storytelling. She excels at creating characters who are a bit flawed and broken, often finding themselves on the edge of society. These characters are richly developed, with complex emotions and personal growth arcs that resonate deeply with readers.
Jackie North’s stories are known for their emotional intensity. Jackie delves into the inner lives of her characters, exploring their fears, hopes, and desires. This emotional depth makes these romances particularly compelling and relatable.
Jackie North's writing is also marked by its vivid descriptions. Whether she's painting a picture of the rugged Wyoming landscape or the tender moments between her characters, her prose brings scenes to life in a way that immerses readers in the story.
Many of her books, including The Cowboy and the Hacker, focus on themes of healing and redemption. Her characters often start out broken or lost but find solace and a sense of belonging through their relationships. Jackie ensures that her characters get their happily-ever-after. Despite the challenges and obstacles they face, her stories always finish on a hopeful and satisfying note, leaving you with a sense of closure and joy.
Book 5 already in the Farthingdale Valley series and I'd kindly like to thank the author and NRR for providing me with an ARC. This is my honest review.
Zeke Malloy used to be a bronc rider, but when a horse fell upon him he had to change jobs. He started working at the Farthingdale Ranch but when offered to take the lead working with ex- parolees he jumps in with both feet. When he meets Call, ex-con, he immediately spots that the young man who's going to be his second man, needs to be treated very gentle and careful.
Callahan Tamalin has just left prison after hacking into an older gentleman's account and stealing his money. He's got himself arrested on purpose only to escape his abusive boyfriend Preston. When he gets the chance to take part in Farthingdale Valley program, he grabs it in the hopes of starting a new life.
Zeke and Call develop a careful friendship with a lot of patience and gentleness from Zeke's side. Call for his part worships the ground Zeke walks on and soon both men develop feelings for one another, but are both scared because of previous hurts. Add to that the fact that Zeke's never been with a man before and they know they have to take things slow.
This was a really sweet read, I love how Zeke compared Call to an abused horse, how he treated him with so much gentleness, never lifting his voice and always be there to encourage him. Call was a real sweetheart and I loved how he finally stood up for what he wanted.
I also loved that Jackie gave us two epilogues, it was fun to see how their life as a couple had developped.
I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series!

I enjoyed this story with the abused Cal who did what he needed to escape Preston and Zeke who recognised the signs of abuse and fear in Cal and so treated him with care and kindness. I loved that working together led to care, affection and then love. I loved the story end. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
Cal is released from prison after hacking into a customer’s account. However, he didn’t take any money, he merely moved it to nowhere, all in an effort to get away from Preston, his abusive boyfriend.
After he serves his sentence he goes to a ranch to teach other parolees to ride horses, even though he’s never ridden one himself.
Zeke is a retired bronco rider who had to leave due to a badly injured leg. His fiancée left him, and he came to work on a farm and live out his life alone.
He’s patient with Cal, who seems like a scared horse, and teaches him to ride and teach others. They end up needing to go and look after some mustangs caught on the other side of a blocked road due to snow.
Zeke has been questioning his sexuality, but knows he’s attracted to Cal, and when they give in to their desires, it’s clear he likes Cal. They agree not to continue their romance at the farm, but both realize they want to make a go of it.
Cal faces his ex and there are witnesses to Preston’s attack. It turns out Preston is also an embezzler wanted by police, ending Cal’s terror. A happy home and life together takes shape for these two.
I found this book to be a good story about Zeke, thinking he was to be alone, but finding a scared colt in Cal that needs his gentleness. I liked the fairy references and the sweetness of Cal and caring of Zeke.
I received this ARC for free and am pleased to give it my honest review in thanks.
I've read every book from the Farthingdale Ranch and the Farthingdale Valley series. This book was just as enjoyable, peaceful, fairly low-angst, and healing as the others. In this story, Cal is an ex-con entering the Fresh Start program after doing a stint in prison for hacking and stealing from a client. In reality, he stole nothing, but used the prison term to escape a highly abusive boyfriend who he met as a young man. Now, released from prison, his ex is still after him, so Cal hopes his time in Farthingdale Valley will help him to find a way to escape the abuse permanently.
Zeke is a cowboy, injured while bronc riding in the rodeo, who now works for Farthingdale Ranch. When his boss asks Zeke to work for the summer in the valley with the program for ex-cons, Zeke is at first reluctant, but he decides to give it a try. He is assigned to work with Cal in addition to his other duties with the horses. Zeke has always considered himself straight, but over time, he begins to feel something unlike he has ever felt before for Cal. Can these two men find their happiness together?
This book handles the character development and actions of a severely abused person very well. The setting, supportive friends and co-workers, and continuity between books is wonderful. The book has more than a few more typos, which detracts somewhat. Overall, the story is a feel-good, relaxing read with passion and a beautiful love. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
“The Cowboy and the Hacker” may be the best addition to Jackie North’s Farthingdale Ranch series. Under a soothing, easy going flow, which I now expect from Ms. North, is a tense subplot, an explosion awaiting. Pairing these opposites heightens each gentle moment leading to the inevitable.
Zeke was a champion bronco rider until a horse rolled on him. But he was ready for change, even though he was disappointed to lose his fiancé, who wanted to marry big. Taking his first employment offer, he ends up at Farthingdale Ranch, bored. When offered to take a lead in the parolee program at Farthingdale Valley, he decides it seems more rewarding.
Zeke is paired with Cal, who actually faked an embezzlement just to get out an abusive relationship by going to jail. When his “boyfriend,” is waiting at the gate on release day, violently insisting Cal return with him, Cal lies, hoping to find a way out, saying he must go to Farthingdale, where parolees can’t have visitors for three weeks - not that Zeke knows any of this.
Like with abused horses, Zeke senses Cal has been harmed, but Zeke remains unaware that Cal’s boyfriend is the culprit. And Cal is so lulled by this gentle man who knows how to build trust, that Cal keeps delaying a plan to escape, basking in his newfound support. What could possibly go wrong? How can it possibly go right?
I was immediately invested. In three short sentences – each with exclamation marks, Ms. North convincingly portrays how easily a naïve Cal could have been sucked into life with a uncaring narcissist. As always, this is top notch writing. Both Cal and Zeke are humble and expect so little from life that they are grateful for each good moment. As Zeke thinks, “The idea of it, of teaching this slender young man all the right ways, the good ways, to groom and ride and handle a horse, filled him with a sudden, intense bubble of pleasure. Such a change from the rough, dusty work of bronc riding.”
As always, Ms. North uses vivid nature descriptions to soothe characters’ stress. “This high up the stars were brilliant and bright, with Venus showing over the gray arch of mountain’s edge. One by one, other stars joined Venus is a slow sparkly dance as the sky grew dark and darker still. The moment was loveliness itself, a quiet peace as the stars brightened and the feelings in (Zeke’s) chest pushed at his heart, feelings that he could not quite explain but that spun around and around as if looking for places where they could hook themselves to his soul.” I was repeatedly transported by the language, the imagery, and the emotions they evoked.
And I experienced these men’s feelings – like Zeke’s confusion because Cal is the first man he’s found attractive, because he’s newly out of bronc riding and unsure. Cal’s innocence, his decency and fear-based need to deny the looming danger, create crystal points of sweetness, of peace, while my heart was never-the-less racing. It felt much like a horror movie, where we know an unexpected danger will make us jump. And isn’t that precisely the life of a formerly abused partner?
I couldn’t wait to discover how Ms. North managed to make decency win and wasn’t disappointed. The climax was thrilling and completely in character. And still, it was comforting for me to get lost in the gentle, appreciative pace of “The Cowboy and the Hacker.” Just lovely!
When the book leaves me like this at the end,😭happy tears, it is a good read. I just put it on my best reads shelf. I don't want this series to end! I think that this might be the penultimate book?
The author writes so knowingly and so beautifully about the human condition. There were many touching moments in the story of the meeting of and the growing love between woefully abused, young computer hacker, Cal, and of big and strong, and older, former rodeo bronc rider, Zeke. This was a relationship with major depth! The author takes such care with revealing the hearts, thoughts, and motives of each man's character in the dual POV. Their backstories are presented in a seamless way that segues into the present at the Farthingdale parolees program in that beautiful valley.
Cal has been browbeaten and physically beaten by a long term psycho boyfriend who wants him for his computer hacking skills for criminal purposes. Cal finally sets himself up to go to prison just to get away from the boyfriend. Now, that's desperation! After his year plus, he is released to the overseeing of cowboy Zeke and the parolee program. There is no detailed listing and scenes of what Cal is given at the camp and all of the homey details that I ate up in previous books, but, it was okay. I wasn't disappointed, as the emphasis on Cal being mesmerized by Zeke's gentleness and kindness was thoroughly and beautifully written. Zeke was handsome and wonderful! And they still had many scenes in the glamping tents, the mess hall, and at the bonfires.
In a previous book about Galen and Bede, Galen had approached Zeke when he worked at Leland's ranch and had asked Zeke for a date. Zeke was flummoxed as he was straight. In this story, that approach by Galen is a part of the narrative, in that, as Zeke finds himself more attracted to Cal, he questions if he is gay and why did Galen think it.
Many of the characters from previous books are here and it is neat to see them through Cal or Zeke's eyes. Leland Tate really is the big boss man as he moves through his appearance in scenes, so steady and reassuring. I liked seeing Galen and Bede's interactions from an outside view of their being in love and not hiding it very well. It was amusing when Zeke confided in Galen that he was falling for Cal and Galen said that everyone already knew, lol.
I loved the language between Cal and Zeke. They spoke so nicely to each other. Zeke caught Cal in some lies of his past and he was so calm about it, he treated Cal as he would a spooked new horse and that is exactly how Cal's persona was when arriving at the ranch. All of that gentleness worked! The descriptions of the horse wrangling and care as Cal learned it all were interesting and well written. An emergency trip into a closed off valley to care for wild mustangs was the perfect bubble for Zeke and Cal who volunteer to go. Zeke knows that he will be confronting his feelings for Cal on the horseback trip and camping out. He is surprised, and it is wonderfully written, when shy Cal takes the initiative in a very romantic scene. I loved their restrained, but, all in, physical scenes.
The ending chapter and the two epilogues in each man's POV were perfection! This is what put the book over the top for me and had me smiling through tears. Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyed.
This is the fifth book in the Farthingdale Vallery series. You could read it as a standalone but it will make more sense if you read the books in order. This is the story of Cal and Zeke. Cal is an ex-con who has entered the Fresh Start Program after serving his time. He does this as a way to avoid his physically and mentally abusive ex. Pressured to steal from his clients by his ex, he actually didn't steal any money but left a trail of breadcrumbs that would result in him being arrested. Cal was that desperate to get away from his ex. He hopes his time at the Farthingdale Ranch will allow him to figure out how to stay out of his exes clutches. Zeke is a rodeo bronc rider who was injured and can no longer compete. He still has his talent with horses so he is hired for the summer to teach ex cons. Cal is assigned to Zeke and it is the best thing to happen to him. Instead of abuse, he receives support, praise and complements. Slowly Cal is coming out of his shell. But his abusive ex isn't willing to lose him. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. I liked how Zeke treated Cal like an abused animal. Being kind, quiet and consistent. It is low angst and compelling to read.
I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I'm reading this admist a pile of great pile of Christmas reads. And it hit me. It would be great having a Farthingdale Christmas book. Heaters around the dance floor, with lots of line and country slow dances. Slow touches, sweet kisses. Lots of good food and homemade root beer. Maybe soft falling snow in the cold Wyoming air. A perfect setting for Jackie North's Farthingdale cowboys and their love healed men. I always thought that Leland and Jamie's story was like a slow country dance. Romantic. Sweet. Very uplifting. And North has kept that cadence going throughout both series. There's always hurt/comfort. Sometimes age gap. Sometimes bi-awakening. Callahan is a fragile soul, terrified of his boyfriend enough to make a deliberate hacking slip which sent him to jail. Zeke is a broke down rodeo bronc buster. New to the ranch. New to feelings for the young con. Love and longing. Zeke treats Cal like he would a wounded, maltreated horse. Giving him guidance and gentle care. North does the 'Love is patient' parts so well. This story fits in so well with Farthingdale dynamics. I will be sorry when the series wraps up. Wish it could go on forever. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.
This book is another great addition to the Farthingdale Valley. As with the others, it does cover an interesting and intense topic, here you have an abusive relationship and the feel of not being able to espcape.
The book is very slow burn, again, similar to the others, and I love how slowly, slowly Zeke is not just coming to terms with his own sexuality but also his growing relationship to Cal. Treating Cal like an abused and spooked horse without knowing exactly Cal's background shows his patient, his love to care and while having more than just one thought about why Cal seem to be so irrestitable, he can seperate his own confusion from his care of Cal.
I love the part of the book where they are away from the valley, the "only one tent" situation is sweet and just perfect to start their romantic relationship. While Zeke still has doubts, when Cal is threatened upon their return, the mama bear in him comes out and he does not care what others think.
The epilogues are perfect, the glimpse in the future and a happy and secure Cal are beautifully written.
This was such a sweet love story. Cal deliberately messed up stealing funds from a client's account so he would be sent to prison to get away from his abusive boyfriend, Preston. While in prison, he applies to be paroled to Farthington Valley and even lies about being familiar with horses so he won't have to return home to his boyfriend. Zeke, who used to be a rodeo bronc rider until an horse fell on him and broke his femur, is asked by his boss to teach riding to the parolees and is told that he will have a parolee as an assistant. Zeke recognizes quite quickly that Cal has been abused in the past and that Cal has never worked with horses. Instead of getting angry, Zeke is patient and teaches Cal what he needs to learn. They two men grow closer working together, and when they are sent to help rescue some wild mustangs, they become romantically involved. I love how patient Zeke was with Cal and how he helped to build up Cal's confidence. Cal blossomed and learned to stand up for himself. This was a beautiful love story with no major misunderstandings between the two MC's.
The Cowboy and the Hacker by Jackie North is book 5 of the Farthingdale Valley series and like all her stories Cal and Zeke made a home in my heart.
Cal is all heart and thought he had the perfect life with Preston until the poison of that love was slowly killing him. He saw no escape from the nightmare and got himself arrested just to get away from Preston. Cal had a plan, and he was ready to run, but Preston wanted what was his back.
Zeke is all cowboy and has his life before him until an accident changes it all. He had a girl and a career he loved or he thought he did. Zeke found a new path and thought he was happy until he met Cal. Suddenly that happiness became something he couldn't ignore and wanted true love that was with a man who led him to the life he always wanted.
Jackie North did it again and made me fall in love with the world she built with Cal and Zeke. The love story might have been a slow burn but once they kissed the fire never went out. Keep the story coming and I'll be reading it with my Ariat boot on.
Zeke can calm a skittish horse, and it turns out a skittish man too.
Cal’s story is tragic and you can understand why he’s jumpy and hard to trust, but in Zeke’s presence he’s in safe hands.
It’s sweet to watch them work through their pasts and find a way forward together that includes acceptance and trust. They are beautiful together and they have a wonderful happy ever after.
The whole series is amazing, I love all these people finding second chances, along with kindness, understanding and love. One of my favourite scenes in every book is when the parolee gets to go get their boots and hat. It never fails to make me smile.
This is the fifth book in the Farthingdale Valley series, a spin-off of the Farthingdale Ranch series, though it can be read as a standalone. For better enjoyment it is recommended to read the whole series, as plenty characters from previous books pop up. I couldn't put it down and I enjoyed reading it. I loved the slow burn and the plot of the story. It isn't the hottest book in the series but it fits both characters that the sex is held to a minimum and a lot of feels and romance takes over. I loved that Zeke takes his time with Cal, isn't yelling and shows understanding towards him. Cal is pretty much like the wild horses Zeke is dealing with. And once Cal gains his self-esteem he fits right in with Zeke. I do love the guys from the Ranch and the Valley so I can only recommend reading it.
Cal is absolutely adorable and you'd hardly believe he'd commit the crimes he's been convicted of, but alas it's true....
This is another slow burn, slow build romances that Jackie is so great at writing - add in a little forced proximity, an ex that doesn't understand no and some wild mustangs and you've got a sweet bi-awakening that brings out Zeke's protective nature and Cal's need for someone to be in his corner. I love how these two become friends and bond over the horses they care for. I love how trust builds and also love watching as Zeke starts to become more aware of Cal as a romantic partner.
While I agree that this book can be read standalone, it does benefit from previous knowledge of some of the side characters so I recommend starting at the beginning of the Farthingdale Ranch series before starting the Farthingdale Valley series.
The Cowboy and the Hacker by Jackie North is book 5 in the Farthingdale Valley series. It can be read as a standalone.
Callahan Tamalin has just left prison after hacking into an older gentleman's account and stealing his money. He's got himself arrested on purpose only to escape his abusive boyfriend Preston. Zeke Malloy used to be a bronc rider, but when a horse fell upon him he had to change jobs. He started working at the Farthingdale Ranch but when offered to take the lead working with ex- parolees he jumps in with both feet. Zeke recognizes quite quickly that Cal has been abused in the past and that Cal has never worked with horses. Instead of getting angry, Zeke is patient and teaches Cal what he needs to learn. I loved how their relationship evolved and the connection and closeness grew. I do love all of the men getting their second chances and finding happiness.
4.25/5 This was a sweet, touching romance where two men find one another basically when they least expect it (especially Zeke, given that he doesn’t think he likes men, lol). I liked how kind and patient Zeke was, how he was determined to treat Cal (and all the ex-cons, for that matter) with kindness and understanding. It’s so nice to witness people get second chances and use them wisely.
It was lovely to see Cal blossom somewhere he was safe, and for Zeke to have room to slowly work out what it is he actually wants in this life. They worked so well with the horses, and their time in the valley with only one tent (lol) was beautiful and touching.
The two epilogues were beautiful glimpses into their future, and I love the life they’ve built together!
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
I love this series with its beautiful setting, and romance. Cal and Zeke’s story pulled me into immediately, kept me reading, and invested in their HEA. I enjoyed catching up with characters from previous books too, and the friendships and strong support network within Farthingdale Valley.
I loved the wild horse analogy through the story with Zeke being patient and kind with Cal, and reading the signs of someone easily spooked because of his past. I loved how they slowly grow close, and build a friendship and more. As I’ve come to expect from this author’s books, the romance is deep, and genuine, yet fragile at first. I love how they look out for each other, and how everyone rallies around against the threat of Cal’s ex, who is a nasty piece of work.
Zeke and Cal’s HEA is well deserved, perfect for them, and rounds out a satisfying, enjoyable read.
These book are just so lovely. If you're a fan of hurt comfort vibes, with strong and steady ranch men and slightly broken ex-cons, you need to pick this series up ASAP. I loved Cal from the beginning. He has it rough, but he's smart and resilient and does everything he needs to to protect himself. And Zeke might have my favorite bi awakening. He's so incredibly clueless that it's happening, I mean really, the amount of men he finds pretty lol, but he's not at all a clueless character so the juxtaposition as a reader is fun as you're just like "my guy, you're so totally bi". It's pretty slow moving on the relationship front, but I feel like that just fits this series so well. You're along for the ride and it's enjoyable for every moment.
This Book is like a warm, loving, gentle hug. FARTHINGDALE VALLEY is where the parole program operates. Jeke has been given the lead position to teach the Paroled how to ride horses. Cal is a young man coming to the program as a way to avoid his abusive boyfriend. These two men are both gentle souls who have never had the right fit. JACKIE NORTH writes the best low angst big hearted men. Not every man is flawed with something to prove. Some men are just doing their best to survive in a world they don't understand. Open to new possibilities and not being judgemental towards those around them. I just flat out LOVED this Book. Cowboys are my favorite. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS FARTHINGDALE VALLEY SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
The author just has such a way with words. Evocative prose that literally plants you in the scene and makes you feel as though you're living with the characters in their world. Cal is a sweet, naive young man who's desperately trying to leave an abusive relationship. He ends up in jail and then beyond on Farthingale Ranch. He meets Zeke, who exudes such a warm, gentle nature that he can't help but want to bask in it. Zeke is slowly coming to the realization that he's attracted to a man for the first time, specifically Cal and he has no idea how to deal with it. I liken their relationship like Zeke trying to calm a wild horse, but he's kind, patient and so willing to go at Cal's pace.
Zeke appeared in the Cowboy and the Dealer and the attention from Galen had him thinking. Cal was desperate to escape his boyfriend, thinking there was no other way he got himself arrested. This was a sweet slow burn read. Zeke was the perfect partner for Cal, gentle, patient caring and as you read this story you see Cal learning to enjoy his time on the ranch and to trust Zeke. Zeke became Cal's world and had so much love to share. This can be read as a standalone as whilst previous characters appear they are there to tell Zeke and Cal's story. Although for me it was good to catch up with the rest of the guys. And those epilogues I loved both and I did not want to finish this story. Another good addition to this series and I would love for this series to go forever
The Cowboy and The Hacker: Farthingdale Valley – Book 5 By Jackie North

There he meets his team leader Zeke Malloy. A former Bronc rider, who is the kind, caring and patient man that cal needs in his life. This book has a slow sweet romantic story, of two men who feel lost in life but find solace in each other. This book puts hallmark romance in its place. Note: this book deals with abuse Also has Bi awakening and an HEA
Cal was in an abusive relationship. The only way he could think of to get out if it, was to make a coding mistake. This got him arrested and away from his "boyfriend". After a year in prison, he's doing his parole on a ranch. His only worry is that his " boyfriend " will find him. Zeke has been working on the ranch. He was a bronc rider until a horse fell on him. Zeke is assigned to work with Cal. The longer they work together Zeke finds that he is attracted to Cal. He's never been attracted to a man before. Now Zeke and Cal just have to work thru their issues to be together. Loved this book.... Great addition to this series. There's a great storyline and side characters, some angst and suspense, steam, humor and a HEA.
