ARC REVIEW

I had the opportunity to read the ARC version of this book, and the theme intrigued me. It was a very quick read, the digital copy was 112 pages.

Trigger: abuse

Review: It was difficult for me to get going with the book. There were a lot of characters and names, and it was hard for me to keep them all straight without having backstories or details. I was also a little turned off by the amount of vulgar language was used in the beginning. I understand the type of book this is, and I use the F word as much as the next girl, but I felt some of it was just unnecessary and distracting. However, that being said, once the book got going, it was GOING!

The chemistry between Sebastian and Maddie 🔥🔥. I was rooting for them the whole time. I also appreciated the football talk. Most books just sprinkle it in, but this writer put plays together and I could IMAGINE what was happening in the game. Also, I want a Prickly Pear around me with some Pom guac!

My only complaints after finishing it; it was short, and rushed. When Maddie and Sebastian get back together at the end, I wanted to read like 6 more chapters about their life and passion and more Prickly Pear! Also, after spending one night together, one(!) and then being apart for weeks with no communication, they say I Love You to each other. They are both supposed to be damaged people who were either abused or taken advantage of, this seems like it would be way out of character. . . I would think they both wouldn’t be as easy to trust, let alone love.

All in all, it was a good story, a quick read, and left me craving for more of their passion!

This book was such a quick read and I could not put this book down.

Hard Count is a Sports Romance, and I have to say this trope is definitely growing one me.

A disgraced player with his reputation in the mood, who is a on the older side for a QB. A traumatic backstory. But most importantly or for me at least, they always have their eye on each other

Geesh, where do I even begin? Some of the football parts didn’t make sense. For example, the score didn’t match what the author wrote. The author also mixed up pronouns a couple times and there were a lot of grammatical errors. Also, it was wildly cheesy and I couldn’t stand another “baby girl.” Oi.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I enjoyed every second of it. I normally don’t read much in the tropes of sports romance but when I do I do not get disappointed at all. This was a short story and I wish it was longer.

I will be reading more by the author in the future.

Hard Count by Ariana St. Claire 🏈🥑💞🌶️

This book is a quick read insta-love, bad boy redemption football romance.

The story is smutty, witty, quick, and a blast to read. I read this in one sitting.

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Hard Count: A F*** on the Field Redemption Story was a quick, fun read. Normally, I do not like the Insta Love trope, but this book really worked for me, probably because I am a sucker for a hero in need of redemption. Sebastian Lockwood, on the outside is a gruff, angry a$$h0le, but he on the inside, he's a big, gooey marshmallow. He is the QB for Cleveland and has a bad reputation causing basically none of the football organizations to want anything to do with him, but if they only knew the truth as to why he was this way, they would see him for the good guy that he really is. Maddie is a young woman who just recently got out of a very toxic relationship with a rockstar jerk of a boyfriend. She is slowly putting her life back together with the help from her close friends, Reid (who is dating Owen Lockwood, Sebastian's estranged half brother) and Jessa. Maddie and Sebastian agree on a "one night only" arrangement and Sebastian treats her like a queen, giving her lots of "O" faces, a bubblebath, and makes dinner for her. Over dinner, they reveal things about themselves. Maddie finds out how he unjustly got the a$$hole reputation and she tells him about her horrific relationship with the rockstar loser. There is a two month time jump before they are reunited and decide they want it all and during this time, Sebastian sends Maddie a cupcake once a week with the same note every time, "For My Ember..." signed with just a 7, his football number. At was after reading this part that I realized I was mad that my husband did not send me a cupcake once a week. If you like quick reads, with misunderstood a hero, a sassy heroine finding herself, insta-lust, with some football and funny side characters, you should give this book a read.

I was really looking forward to another installment of this author's interconnected world, and it didn't disappoint! Sebastian Lockwood is the half-brother of Owen Free Fall who calls himself a big bad wolf. FMC Maggie works with Owen's partner Reid, and it was great seeing her have a deserving night of happiness after the troubles she had with her ex.

I really enjoyed getting into Bas's head. His story has been hinted at in Touch Me Down but now we finally find out the truth of his 'misdemeanour'. Turns out he's just a little lost and needed to find his way home... I'm a sucker for a 'baby girl', and the bromance between MMC and his teammate Ty was great too. I didn't understand the football talk but for a short novella it didn't actually fall short of the sport trope at all. Also adore that food is his love language (mine too!)

As usual for Ms Claire, the chemistry between the two main characters is on point. However, I would have loved to see so much more of their growing relationship. The conclusion was very fast, so it felt a little short to really feel the full burn. Although knowing the author's world, I am sure we will see more of this couple in further books, so I can't wait to see what story she will bring us next.

Hard Count is the second interconnected standalone in the Overtime series. It is an age gap sports romance featuring Sebastian Lockwood and Madison (Maddie) Evans.

Sebastian went from being the quarterback everyone loved, to the one everyone loathed. His team has turned his back on him, his agent has dropped him, and he's been invited to leave the team. Fortunately one member of his team hasn't given up on him: Ty Simmons.

Ty persuades his agent to pick up Sebastian who subsequently gets him signed to a one year performance based contract with Caroline Fury. This is his last chance; he cannot mess this up.

While on his bike, Sebastian crosses paths with a mystery woman. He sees her again, and again. He doesn't know her name, but there is something between them. He knows who he is, and he doesn't want to tarnish her, but his pull to her is undeniable.

Maddie, Sebastian's mystery woman, has been single for awhile. Her last relationship was not a healthy one and could very easily have ended in tragedy. She wasn't ready to get back out there until she saw Sebastian. The chemistry between them is intense, and he might just be the man to help her bring back the Maddie she was before her trauma.

This is the first book I've read by St. Claire so I couldn't appreciate any of the characters' backstory; I'm hoping to rectify that in the future. I found Hard Count to be fun and fast-paced. I love a tough exterior with a soft interior and I definitely got that with Sebastian. I also enjoyed Maddie being able to find herself again. The author left me wanting more of this duo.

As always, I reserve Ariana's book for when I need a palate cleanser after reading dark and heavy books.
I love that they are short stories and are full to the brim with some romance, emotion and spice. Only problem is, I then crave more because you instantly like the characters and can't get enough haha.
This was Sebastian's story. He is very misunderstood character. So instead of correcting it he just gave people the unlovable character. I loved Ty!!! He really was an awesome teammate and friend. He helps Sebastian to start over at a new team with him.
Maddie was a sweet character. She was totally broken from mental and emotional abuse by her ex. The funny thing was she was working with Reid (Owen's partner).
When Maddie and Sebastian eye meet their connections were instant and that's when their love story starts.
I Wish they interacted more, which would have helped with experiencing the chemistry between them. But that is the issue with short stories,it's hard to fit in a lot.
None the less I still loved these two and I now want to try out pomegranate guacamole. Never heard of it.

Quotes I Liked:

“Everyone needs to be loved, even if they don’t think they deserve to be.”

“If we’re only going to have one night, I need,” he growled against the nape of my neck, “to make sure you never forget a single second, Ember. Every touch, lick. Bite. Quiver.”

"Her laugh was sexy, beautiful, confident, and innocent all at once. I craved it almost as much as her orgasms."

Hard Count by Ariana St. Claire

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️🌶️🌶️

✅ Grumpy Football Player
✅ Age Gap
✅ Insta Love
✅ Pleasure Dom and Dirty Talk
✅ Redemption

Sebastian Lockwood is well known for his bad attitude within the NFL but this time it’s gotten him dropped and traded. He finds himself on a new team, in a new town, staring at his future while stopped at a traffic light. And he couldn’t stop thinking about her.

The moment their eyes locked through the window, Maddie knew what she was feeling in response to just his stare was different. More. She turned her head for just a moment and then he was gone. Later that night, familiar eyes find her from across the bar.

I loved this book! Hard Count is part of a connected universe and it is so fun to see characters from her other books! The spice in this is so good and the plot is amazing! I love the character development and the relationship between Sebastian and Maddie! Thank you, Ariana St. Claire, for an ARC of this book! My review is mine and freely given!

This story gives you the classic redemption vibes.

The grumpy QB Sebastian and sweet Mads had me up until almost 4am because I couldn’t put this book down! Sebastian is on the older side of most football quarterbacks and he’s having issues in Cleveland and as I final resolution he gets moved to Carolina Fury and Mads with a past that continues to hold her back with her friends & life. Her past is holding a grip on her heart to find something real. She just wants to be able to feel again.

When Mads and Sebastian finally have their one night together, they could not forget each other at all. Reid finally has enough of Mads moping and that’s when things change for the main characters. If you have read any of Ariana’s previous works the last chapter will have you in a choke hold wanting more.

I received an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review. These are 100% my true feelings and unbiased opinions on this book.

Once again, Ariana has written a football book I enjoy, even though I am not a football fan 😂 I enjoyed this quick, fast paced spicy read! I loved Sebastian, he’s the first pleasure dom I’ve read and not going to be the last that’s for sure 🥵 the spice was delicious!

I loved that Sebastian and Maddie were able to come together despite the rough personal situations they were both dealing with and overcoming. I love the softness she brought out in him and how he was able to give her what she deserved! I really enjoyed all the personal growth these characters went through! Hard Count is a part of the F*** on the Field series, and the second interconnected standalone in the Overtime series. Be sure to check out the rest of the series, I know I will!!

“Just one night” - Sports Romance - Age Gap - Pleasure Dom - Quick Read

Sebastian is the broody asshole that no one wants, not even his football team. Maddy is the girl who has been broken by a previous relationship. They agree to ONE NIGHT. Even though he tries to keep up his asshole persona, his ooey gooey center starts to shine through. Maddy is positively glowing after one night in Sebastian’s care. Too bad their love is forbidden due to Sebastian’s past and Maddie’s found family.

Everyone has a past, but does anyone know the truth? Will Maddie’s friends be able to look past what they think they know and give Sebastian a shot to show the world he’s more than just a careless asshole?

Buckle up, Owen lovers- his brother, Sebastian, has arrived 🥵
This book gives all of the vibes and feels for those of us who couldn’t get enough of Reid and Owen from Trust Fall + Free Fall.
We know Maddie already but Hard Count is definitely Bash’s story, and one you need to know!
Sebastian’s last chance to make things right on the field is about to strike midnight, and he seems willing to just let the moment pass. Until he sees her…

This story was so perfect and I absolutely adore these characters. I’m definitely feeling like a full fledged family book is needed here. I’ll never get enough of Owen but I’ll just say, Sebastian makes a very compelling and persuasive argument 😉

Phew... My first read from Ariana St Claire, and I was not disappointed.

My struggle with Novellas is the feeling of wanting more when I reach the end, but this one was so well developed. Every time I was dotted and t was crossed, I fell in love with the characters and the storyline. It's definitely a read that I wish I could read again for the first time!

Sebastian and Maddie are wonderful main characters their Grumpy/Sunshine dynamic is wonderful, and the way they challenge each other to push their own weaknesses is perfect.

This is a fast paced, spicy sports novella with a swoon worthy grumpy MMC! The development of the story and chemistry between the characters is just right!

The big bad wolf meets the sweetest girl! Sebastian and Maddie are never supposed to be together! He's off limits and she has a bad past with her ex-boyfriend. Allowing themselves one night to indulge in one another and nothing more... Can they keep it just the one night?!

You'll just have to read it to find out!!!

Asshole QB who’s just hiding his big heart?! *swoon*

A fun quick read, sat down & read this in one sitting!

Maddie sees right through the ‘big bad football player’ attitude, she’s dealt with a real bad guy. Sebastian can try to be a grumpy loner all he wants but it won’t last, not with Ty around & not once he meets Maddie. Such an adorable connection made over so few pages, I enjoyed every second of this book!

It’s been a while since I’ve related to a character’s story in this way, it’s a beautiful thing to see Maddie’s strength & for her find her way back to her dreams🖤

It’s a fast read so be prepared. To be it did feel a little slow at time. There is a little bit of world building plus our character building that I feel could’ve been brought up more casually. I don’t hate insta love, but I think I need another chapter somewhere in the middle. It has spice but not a lot so if you’re looking for like a lot this one in my opinion has 🌶️.5
I wished there was more to Maddie seeing Sebastian’s nice side and even his brother seeing it as well as Reid, but maybe that’ll come in another book.

I'm still reading Ariana St Claire's stories and enjoying them more and more. Maddie has had a bad experience with her controlling ex. Although she puts on a brave face, her 2 bestie's glimpse the frightened woman she has become and try to show her there are good guys out there. I love the dynamics between Reid, Jessa and Maddie. They're true best friends and continuously look out for each other. When a motorcycle stops in front of the store one day, Maddie's eyes lock on the driver. Little does she know where that sighting will go.

Seriously Ari does amazing sports romances. As a huge football fan it’s so great to find football romances that have the actual games in the story and it is all very realistic! Sebastian is the perfect amount of grumbly jerk and a big softy for his woman! I swear if all these novellas don’t start getting full length books I will cry! She makes me fall in love with her men and then leave me wanting so much more! Thank you for writing such an amazing world!

Sebastian is the QB with a bad reputation. Let go of the team he is on but thanks to a few people picked up by another team and given one more chance.
Maddie is the sweet home town girl who has had bad, really bad luck with men.
They spot each other and sparks fly. You’ll have to read the book to get all the details and you definitely should. The chemistry is off the charts. Have fun with this one.

"Every touch, lick, bite, quiver...."

Maddie falls deeper and deeper with every dirty word, every stroke and every thrust but is she being devoured by the big Bad wolf or is she falling into the arms of safety. Sebastian has convinced himself he is bad news, a problem and an ass, but with Maddie he just wants to protect her, provide for her, oh and claim her again and again and again.....
It's naughty, dirty and delicious.

Yes....yes....YES!

I loved seeing Seb come out. And seeing some old issues get answers. We got a story one time and get the flip side of it now. Great job on that! And then Maddie....epic. Add in the fact that the two of them complement each other in the best way. Freakin love. Sigh. Now can I have what they have?

I totally loved reading this. And believe me when I say that this one, though a standalone, will want to make you read some of her others to place it all together!

Loved this book! The right kind of suspense, a nice amount of spice and so well written. Ofcourse with such a well written story, you wish you could make the story longer – to keep enjoying it! But I love that the bad guy fell first, but was so respectful and patient, waiting for the right time for his girl to be ready for him. And I am ready to read more of Ariana St. Claire’s books!!!

If you like football stories with some heated romance then this is one for you. The quarterback no one likes but he is good at what he does if he only wasn’t a jerk. The girl who sees thru all the bull but not sure if she’s enough. The player who knows what there could be and believes it will happen. A story with a little suspense, some twists you may not see coming and the hope for a perfect spiral pass.
