Make You Wish I Was Dead
If there is one thing you should know about me, it’s that I am prone to obsession.
That’s the only way I know how to love.
I have had several over the course of my relatively short life, but three in particular stood out and shaped me into the severely deranged young woman I now am.
The first obsession I remember having was death. It was such an abstract concept for my child brain, and it fascinated me. The second, was blood. You see, after I had my first taste of death, I was kind of disappointed. I expected more from it, I wanted the rush to last longer. I wanted it to be messier, dirtier, something that would mar my skin and stain my clothes.
So, blood was my second obsession. In my mind, if there was death, then there should be blood too. Otherwise it was boring.
The last one of my obsessions was nothing like the other two. It had dirty blond hair and hazel eyes, loved to stare at me silently and looked very much unapproachable.

Alexei wasn’t the knight in a shining armor who slayed my demons. He was the morally gray villain who captured them just so I could wreak my havoc and unleash my mayhem.

5 dual-obsession stars
It’s not often I come across books that just hit differently, and this one did just that.
Plus. They’re BOTH obsessed? Yes please 😈.
Camila (18) has always had an obsessive personality. Since she was young, she’s had three obsessions, and they’re not exactly good ones 😬. She’s obsessed with death, gore (bloody deaths), and Alexei (19).
She’s SOOO obsessed that she even installs cameras in his room 👀. You see. Her mom cleans his house. She helps her mom, but she has another wing assigned to her. That doesn’t stop her from sneaking into Alexei’s room and surreptitiously installing the cameras.
Except, Alexei knows she’s installed them 😳. What she doesn’t know is that he wants her just as much as she wants him 👀.
Luckily for her, she’s been waiting for him 👀.
At school, she’s a cheerleader and hangs out with her best friend and the “mean” girls. All are interested in the quiet, tall Russian.
Good thing he only wants her 😉.
What I liked/loved: possible spoilers

—the dark humor 😅. I’m terrible, but I found myself giggling a bit lol 🫣

—the 🔥. These two go allllll in 🥵. I love how he’s so in tuned to her body 👀 and he asks her to make sure he’s doing everything just right for her 🫠

—the comeuppance 😅. Umm… it got intense, but don’t be backstabbing people 🤷🏻♀️. And Alexei is supportive of her decisions

I received and arc for this book but this opinion is my own.
For my safety friends, you would love this book. Both virgins, only with each other, only eyes for each other. The H didn’t feel curious about sex until h, if not for her he would have stayed celibate his entire life 🫡🙃
BUT this book is dark. It’s like a dark romance comedy but the dark is dark, does that make sense?
Anyway, there are people that die and in painful gruesome ways. Check tw before reading. I feel like this book would be an amazing read if you want Halloween vibes and obsessive main characters. I love that h was UNHINGED.
I will say that for me it was a bit dark at times but these days I’m a little bit anxious about this type of books so it might be a me thing but it was wonderful.

This is so freaking messed up, and I looooove every minute of it. 🤣
I think I only read one novella where the FMC is unhinged and obsessed (Sweet Psycho), but Camila was way craaaazier; no complaints here, and definitely rooting for her. I had so much fun reading her thoughts and getting inside her head. She was the definition of girl-obsessed, and I'm here for it. She's more dominant than Alexei, and honestly, I had no problems with that. It's a nice change to have a beta MMC and an alpha FMC. 😄 Love their combo and how unhinged they are for one another. I definitely enjoyed the revenge killing too; it was such satisfying retaliation.
Overall, this was fun, and I'm excited to read the second book. I love how their obsessiveness and love for getting even were passed on to their daughter; I can't wait for her story. ❤️

NO WHY DID IT HAVE TO END?!!!
Actually going to start sobbing because I never wanted Camila and Alexei’s story to end. They were perfect for each other!!
Alexei is my book boyfriend until the day I die🫡 This man is the epitome of perfection. He will do anything for his girl. I LOVE how Alexei isn’t afraid to let Camila take control in the bedroom and he gladly let her mark him😌
Camila is such a badass. I loved reading about how instead of the MMC stalking the FMC it was reversed. Putting cameras in his room to watch him jerk off and Alexei knew they were in there but jerked off anyway because he knew she was watching🤭
BUT LIKE OMG let’s talk about the fact that they are each others first and only!! Alexei never felt attraction towards anyone until he met her and ONLY her. Not even killing can get him in the mood, only her🤭🤭
I have so many highlights from this book because WTF THIS BOOK IS GOLDEN AND ALEXEI IS TOP TIER!!
The award for my fav Russian book boyfriend goes to Alexei😍

Get ready everyone, I’m about to rip into this book deeply.
I am well aware that this book is marketed as a dark romance with thriller plots but keep in mind my criticism isn’t on the dark romance but rather the content.
For starters I will be talking about the constant repetition that we got about the FMC. The opening chapter highlighted the fact that that the FMC was different than those around her because she couldn’t feel emotions the way that regular people could. Which okay cool the picture has been painted. The author proceeds to share that the FMC has an obsession with wanting to look inside things so she starts with dolls & toys and moves on to 🔪 small animals. Okay, so she’s a psychopath. Once again picture has been painted. But I kid u not, the author repeats this information a bunch of other times. Which literally got to the point where I was just irritated, I get it “she’s different then everyone else” I don’t want to read it a bunch of other times. Once should definitely be enough.
Another one of the things about this book that really got my blood boiling was the description of the FMC’s ethnicity and culture. As a Mexican-American myself, this book literally fed into every stereotype that white authors have of Mexicans/Latinos in general. I’m not sure if the Author themselves is Latinx or not. But the way that the Mexican representation was written in this was honestly hurtful rather than fulfilling.
For example: in describing the brown skin of the FMC’s mother the author uses “skin the color of coffee with a dash of milk.” This book was published in 2023, at this point in time we should be BEYOND the food descriptions of skin tones. It’s honestly embarrassing that these kind of descriptions are still being used.
Example 2: in describing the FMC & FMC’s mom words like “petite” or “pocket sized” are used, all I have to say to this is seriously? 😐
Example 3 and final example: the FMC shares that she alongside her mother work in cleaning houses for rich people and that her mother has a no fraternization policy placed. All these examples combined together make literally THE white author idea of Latinx culture.
I haven’t mentioned this but the FMC and MMC are supposed to be in high school and we’re getting explicit sexual content between them. For the love of Christ, authors need to leave high schoolers alone.
P.S. the whole placing cameras at his place and watching him without consent but then changing it up and saying that the MMC knew the cameras were there are along isn’t hot, it’s just icky.
This book wasn’t hot for a dark romance nor was it entertaining. All I saw and read were a bunch of red flags. All I ask is for those who are interested in reading this book or have read this book, heed my warning on the harmful stereotypes this book has about Mexicans & Latinxs.

Make You Wish I Was Dead would make a good fall/Halloween read. The book does take place in the fall and Halloween. I think this book would make a good movie. I think Netflix or someone should snatch this one up. It’s a teen horror-comedy. It’s a much darker version of Mean Girls.
The book reminded me of this movie series that I saw on Lifetime called The Bad Seed and The Bad Seed Returns that starred Mckenna Grace. She played a psychopath in those movies. Camila(h) reminded me a little of that character except Camila actually cares about some people. Camila reminded me a little of Arya Stark and many women in Game of Thrones with a desire for revenge.
This is a duology, but I think book 2 will be about a different couple.

Camila Flores “little killer”- 18, senior in high school
(I looked up Mckenna Grace’s heritage and she had a great great abuela that immigrated from Mexico.)
I liked the role reversal in this book. Usually, the guy is the psychopath. Camila is a serial killer in the making in this one. Alexei is the shy quiet one.
The story starts out on a dark note. Camila’s abuela used to say that she had the devil in her eyes. The abuela was verbally/ physically abusive towards Camila(not shown only mentioned). When no one was around the abuela would pinch her until her arm was black and blue and pull her hair. Also, she would say vial things to Camila. It wasn’t a good idea to provoke Camila. When Camila was 10 she had enough and describes how she smothered her abuela with a pillow.
Camila has a limited range of emotions and fakes emotions to try to seem more normal. This reminded me of some scenes in those The Bad Seed movies.
Don’t worry she doesn’t want to kill the rest of her family. She has 5 siblings. She does care about some people. She shows she cares by being overprotective and loyal.
Camila’s 3 obsessions:
1.) "I was always prone to obsession. The first one was death. Feeling it, seeing it, creating it."
2.) "It was pretty similar to the first with one exception: I wanted it to be bloody. I wanted to see inside of people."
She started practicing on toys and that did nothing for her. She started killing animals and dissecting them in the woods.
"Small animals were next, mice, rats, pigeons, possums, even a squirrel once but only once because I found them kinda cute and didn’t feel any rush to kill them." (It doesn’t show her killing animals)
She got bored and stopped killing the small animals. I’m glad she stopped. Next, she wanted to move onto people. She didn’t want to kill innocent people just people that wronged her in some way.
3.) Camila’s 3rd obsession is Alexei Korolov.
"I think that’s what drew me too him: his darkness.
His darkness reflected my own and looking at him felt like I had finally found my other half."
"Alexei wasn’t the knight in shining armor who slayed my demons, he was the morally gray villain who captured them so that I could wreak havoc. And that was all I needed."
Camila’s mom is a maid for the Korolov family. She started bringing Camila along to help. Camila first met Alexei when she was 15 and he 16. Alexei’s mom didn’t want the help interacting with the family.
Alexei Korolov – 19, senior in high school.
He is the youngest of 8 children. He is quiet. He is very orderly and organized. He likes control. I like those emotionless guys that are only soft for their woman. Camila brings chaos and mayhem to his orderly life and he secretly loves it. I find it adorable that he blushes.
The Korolov family is like Russian royalty, a very wealthy and mysterious family. This reminded me of Twilight. The Cullens were all mysterious and Bella was trying to figure out Edward’s secret. Alexei is mysterious and Camila is fascinated by him. The Korolovs’ aren’t vampires, but they do have dark secrets. Alexei is the most mysterious. All of Alexei’s siblings went to public high school, but he was homeschooled. Alexei is hardly ever seen leaving the house. Surprisingly, he enrolls in public school for his senior year. He had to repeat a year when they came over from Russia.
I wish there would have been more interaction with Alexei’s family. There was only one scene with Camila and his mother. Alexei’s brothers were mentioned, but there weren’t any scenes with them. I wish there were scenes with the dad. You just hear him talking to his wife in a scene.
I thought it was cute how excited Camila got when she found out that Alexei liked her too. Both were equally obsessed. I like how she would grab his belt loop and drag him around with her.
I thought it was sweet when Alexei described how he first met Camila.

Alexei said, "I thought I might stay celibate my whole life given how little I cared about sex or physical connection in general."
Alexei said,"The idea of getting naked and exchanging bodily fluids with anyone other than Camila made me wanna retch. She was the only person on earth whose body I wanted to kiss and suck and lick for hours on end."

I thought the part with the kitten was cute and funny. (Don’t worry the kitten was not harmed in the story.)
Camila has Alexei wrapped about her finger.
Camila’s bff Frankie. I kind was of surprised that she had a bff. They have been friends since the age of 3. Camila has to deal with this mean girl type posse since they are on the cheer squad together. Frankie is sucking up to Paige (head mean girl) in hopes that she will ask her dad to give her a scholarship to the Academy. I don’t think Frankie even deserved Camila as a friend.
Frankie wants to score an invite to this slumber party that Paige holds every year at her parent’s lake house. Only a few lucky girls get to go.

I had so much anxiety over the slumber party situation. I hoped that Camila wouldn’t go.

Epilogue- 10 years later. Parts were cute and morbid.
This is a duology, but it looks like book 2 will be about a different couple. I think Alexei/Camila might appear as side characters in book 2. There is a preview at the end of this book for book 2.

Camila(h) reminded me a little of that character except Camila actually cares about some people. Camila reminded me a little of Arya Stark and many women in Game of Thrones with a desire for revenge.

(I looked up Mckenna Grace’s heritage and she had a great great abuela that immigrated from Mexico.)
I liked the role reversal in this book. Usually, the guy is the psychopath. Camila is a serial killer in the making in this one. Alexei is the shy quiet one.
The story starts out on a dark note. Camila’s abuela used to say that she had the devil in her eyes. The abuela was verbally/ physically abusive towards Camila(not shown only mentioned). When no one was around the abuela would pinch her until her arm was black and blue and pull her hair. Also, she would say vial things to Camila. It wasn’t a good idea to provoke Camila. When Camila was 10 she had enough and describes how she smothered her abuela with a pillow.
Camila has a limited range of emotions and fakes emotions to try to seem more normal. This reminded me of some scenes in those The Bad Seed movies.
Don’t worry she doesn’t want to kill the rest of her family. She has 5 siblings. She does care about some people. She shows she cares by being overprotective and loyal.
Camila’s 3 obsessions:
1.) "I was always prone to obsession. The first one was death. Feeling it, seeing it, creating it."
2.) "It was pretty similar to the first with one exception: I wanted it to be bloody. I wanted to see inside of people."
She started practicing on toys and that did nothing for her. She started killing animals and dissecting them in the woods.
"Small animals were next, mice, rats, pigeons, possums, even a squirrel once but only once because I found them kinda cute and didn’t feel any rush to kill them." (It doesn’t show her killing animals)
She got bored and stopped killing the small animals. I’m glad she stopped. Next, she wanted to move onto people. She didn’t want to kill innocent people just people that wronged her in some way.
3.) Camila’s 3rd obsession is Alexei Korolov.
"I think that’s what drew me too him: his darkness.
His darkness reflected my own and looking at him felt like I had finally found my other half."
"Alexei wasn’t the knight in shining armor who slayed my demons, he was the morally gray villain who captured them so that I could wreak havoc. And that was all I needed."
Camila’s mom is a maid for the Korolov family. She started bringing Camila along to help. Camila first met Alexei when she was 15 and he 16. Alexei’s mom didn’t want the help interacting with the family.
Alexei Korolov – 19, senior in high school.
He is the youngest of 8 children. He is quiet. He is very orderly and organized. He likes control. I like those emotionless guys that are only soft for their woman. Camila brings chaos and mayhem to his orderly life and he secretly loves it. I find it adorable that he blushes.
The Korolov family is like Russian royalty, a very wealthy and mysterious family. This reminded me of Twilight. The Cullens were all mysterious and Bella was trying to figure out Edward’s secret. Alexei is mysterious and Camila is fascinated by him. The Korolovs’ aren’t vampires, but they do have dark secrets. Alexei is the most mysterious. All of Alexei’s siblings went to public high school, but he was homeschooled. Alexei is hardly ever seen leaving the house. Surprisingly, he enrolls in public school for his senior year. He had to repeat a year when they came over from Russia.
I wish there would have been more interaction with Alexei’s family. There was only one scene with Camila and his mother. Alexei’s brothers were mentioned, but there weren’t any scenes with them. I wish there were scenes with the dad. You just hear him talking to his wife in a scene.
I thought it was cute how excited Camila got when she found out that Alexei liked her too. Both were equally obsessed. I like how she would grab his belt loop and drag him around with her.
I thought it was sweet when Alexei described how he first met Camila.

Frankie is sucking up to Paige (head mean girl) in hopes that she will ask her dad to give her a scholarship to the Academy. I don’t think Frankie even deserved Camila as a friend.
Frankie wants to score an invite to this slumber party that Paige holds every year at her parent’s lake house. Only a few lucky girls get to go.

This was short but so good and the revenge was satisfying.
The FMC, Camila is obsessed with Alexei, and it was so refreshing and so funny how unhinged she was. She put cameras all over Alexei’s room to stalk and watch him please 😭. But don’t worry though! Alexei is equally obsessed with her.
Alexei’s family is somewhat consist of assassins including his mother and himself. Camila being the unhinged, sassy girlboss she is, felt like she found her calling.
The revenge part, where they killed her bullies was very fulfilling to read. I love a good petty, rage freak vengeance with a smile on the victim’s face 🫦
And the cherry on top was both are virgins and each other’s first everything!! 🥹

Macy Rosie, the author, literally took Rina Kent’s Legacy of Gods series and turned it into a spin off.
Camila the MFC is the female version of Killian in God of Malice. They’re unable to love, unable to feel except anger and joy. Yet her actions scream otherwise. She feels betrayed. She feels upset. She feels affection as well so Rosie’s execution was a bit (a lot) off.
Alexei, is a recluse. Son of a russian family of killers. He’s anti social with obsessive streaks.
They’re a perfect match. Their darkness connects them on a psychotic level.
Her best friend betrays her with the mean girls of the cheering squad. They play a prank on her and by prank they chase her in the woods, knocking her out, stabbing her and basically assaulting her and leaving her to die. Yep.
After she’s healed she gets her revenge. By killing all of them.
This book is weird and unhinged to say the least.
Personal opinion: Macy Rosie, an anonymous author (clearly since her books should be studied along with Ted Bundy’s psychotic behaviour) must have been bullied in her life and she’s avenging her younger self in these books.
I do not know how to rate this book.
The writing was ok.
The Plot is brutal.
Character development is worrisome.

I’m not even gonna lie, but I saw this book on reels and was kind of hooked. I was bored and wanted something short to read so this really came in hand.
Again, I’m not gonna lie, but I came from a reel that was like “she is obsessed with him and plants cameras in his room. he actually knows about the cameras and tells her he knew from that day. she says “oh so that’s why u. been jerking off in front of the camera, because u knew i was watching” ,fairly like that.
But nonetheless it was a good book, intriguing and really interesting.
I didn’t like the “marking up” stuff with his cum or whatever ,but I’m getting over it cuz over all it was really good.

I liked that it was dark romance but there was also a lot of fluff ,so i really enjoyed that.

I definitely wasn’t expecting to like this book was much as I did but woah that was honestly so good. Such a short read and not too much going on but I really liked it.
CAMILA!! Dude! She was a complete psycho and I was here for it!! Usually I hate when the women do the pursuing but here it was so great. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the FMC is the one to put a camera in the MMCs room to spy on him. It’s usually the other way around!! I loved that so much. She was seriously a boss bitch. She didn’t let anything phase her. Even when Alexei kind of pushed her away once or twice, in her delusional mind she was like “oh he totally wants me.” I thought that was so hilarious!!
ALEXEI! He was a good character as well and once he was all in with Camila he was ALL in. I loved that they were both obsessed with each other for years. Loved that they were each other’s first EVERYTHING, even kissing, at 18 and 19 yrs old. We need more characters like this please!!!!
There wasn’t much character depth or development for that matter and you had to suspend belief a little bit but I honestly did not care. I enjoyed it either way and it was such a quick, easy and funny read.
I can’t wait for the next one. It says duet but the next book is about Camila and Alexei’s daughter when she’s grown up and she’s a psycho also!! The excerpt sounded so good!!

CAMILA!! Dude! She was a complete psycho and I was here for it!! Usually I hate when the women do the pursuing but here it was so great. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the FMC is the one to put a camera in the MMCs room to spy on him. It’s usually the other way around!! I loved that so much. She was seriously a boss bitch. She didn’t let anything phase her. Even when Alexei kind of pushed her away once or twice, in her delusional mind she was like “oh he totally wants me.” I thought that was so hilarious!!
ALEXEI! He was a good character as well and once he was all in with Camila he was ALL in. I loved that they were both obsessed with each other for years. Loved that they were each other’s first EVERYTHING, even kissing, at 18 and 19 yrs old. We need more characters like this please!!!!

i read this in one sitting and loved it! i am so used to reading about obsessive Heroes but this one was different because we finally have an equally obsessive heroine🤣
i loved the heroine in this one, she was so badass and i just LOVED how direct she was in what she was feeling and what she wanted when it came to the Hero. like this girl put cameras in his room! that’s some next level obsession but thank god it’s reciprocated. i love the juxtaposition of the loud, talkative heroine and the quiet brooding Hero. something about this just fits so well and the way the heroine would honestly make the first few moves was so HAWT🔥 especially when the Hero is addicted to her touches and begs her to touch him anyway she can.
really interesting, quick book. they were both the same level of psychotic which i loved! lol. i don’t think i have read about two characters as blood hungry as them but hey i’m not complaining it gave way to some badass revenge objective and don’t get me started on the ex bff of the heroine. i wanted to pull her hair and throw her off a building 🙄 anyways what a great ending!

It started off strong. I was instantly hooked!! Camilla's character is one of the most unhinged I've ever read and Alexei was right there by her side. There's just something about a psychotic FMC and the MMC to match!They were both obsessed with each other for years and when they finally come together?? They're a match made in hell! Their chemistry was impeccable! loved every deranged second of reading these unhinged characters!! Also, the name Alexei is so sexy.
