The Kraken #7

Lover from the Waves

Rate this book
A lonely widow. A determined kraken. An attraction they can’t resist.

Long ago, the sea took Kathryn’s husband. She never thought it would give anything back. But now that her children are grown with little ones of their own, she finds her eyes drawn more and more to those restless waters—and she sees part of herself reflected in them. Something out there calls to her.

She yearns to discover what it is.

What she didn’t expect was the attention of a kraken with golden eyes, sculpted muscles, and a heated stare that makes her melt. Ector reawakens a passion in Kathryn she’d thought long gone. When he accompanies her on her journey into the unknown, she can’t help but wonder if what she wanted—and needed—is right in front of her.

I had it in my head that book 6 was the end of this series, so this was like a perfect little epilogue that left me incredibly pleased with the romance and deeply happy with the direction the humans and kraken are headed in. Seriously. It was a little treat that perfectly capped the overall story off and left me satisfied with how it all ended.

Kathryn and Ector have a slow, sweet romance. They're both older and they're wondering what more they have to offer their children and the younglings they've guided. Kathryn wants to find herself again after being a wife and widow and mother and grandmother. Ector sees that the young kraken he helped shape have grown beyond him and created something incredible with their relationships with their human mates.

Neither of them are necessarily looking for love, but it finds them all the same. It probably helps that they're alone on a little trip up the coast and can explore their feelings (physically and otherwise) without having prying eyes watching.

Along with Kathryn and Ector's romance, we also got a glimpse into another couple that weathered a relationship during the kraken uprising all those years before. Honestly, their story got to me. A human/kraken pairing back when things were bad seems like a recipe for disaster, but it turned out to be pretty epic.

Again, this book satisfied on so many levels. We got to see an older couple find love and...I don't know how to put it. It was just such a hopefully positive ending to the series as a whole it makes me incredibly happy. *thumbs up*

Fulfilling

As eager as I was to read Lover From the Waves, knowing it was the final in the series made me slow down whilst reading.
I normally absorb books at a rapid pace. Just can't get enough, you know? But this time I tried to make it last. And boy was I rewarded.
The tenderness and gentle fall into love by Kathryn was everything any woman of a certain age would desire.
The story pace was at once both in-depth and exciting. A wonderful feel good read.

*WARNING* story contains explicit adult/kraken steamy stuff
I think this one is my favorite. This story isn't about babies, this about loneliness.
Ector is an elder kraken and feels like he has no purpose now that his people are doing well in the Watch. Kathryn is a widow with grown children and she has grandchildren, so she is wondering about her purpose. Typically these stories are love at first site, a little conflict, a come together, then the baby is a announced. This one is just for these two characters to give each other's life meaning. Lots of emotion, with lovely sentiment.

It can't be true! This can't be the end! I want more! Oh my heart, THIS BOOK WAS REALLY GOOD AND SWEET AND NICE, but oh my heeaaarrttt!

I guess the only way to go back is to revisit the series again and again. harrumph.

and here I was looking forward to a flash-forward to the kraken kids grown up and what life on the planet had become.....
darn it.
Oh well.
I'm not crying, you're crying.

Would recommend this (and essentially any other book by T.R. to anyone looking to leave their world. Embrace the wild. Feel the love. Get jiggy with the weird.)

It was an okay reading. So sad that it’s the last book for this series though. I felt like so much more could've been done to expand the series, but I guess this is it.

This was such a sweet ending to this series and I was sobbing when they found the story of an OG kraken and their mate. I loved that Kat and Ector found their own little happy ever after later in life and found themselves again. Kat was kind badass, with her no nonsense attitude and determination to take her boat vacay of self discovery. Ector was just an absolute sweetie pie.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: animal attack, enslavement, references to massacre, death, grief, ageism (not from MCs, and not malicious)

This book was good. It's nice to have an older women as the heroine, that's the same age as me. I liked that they were both experiencing a kind of empty nest syndrome. My son is only 12, so I have a ways to go, but appreciated the story. The story within the story made me cry and cry and cry. It was a good ending to the series. I did some skimming because I was impatient to just get to the parts where they are together and interacting with only each other. Their story was sweet and sexy.

And They Lived Happily Ever After

I really can’t say more about how much I loved this book— I’m tempted to just fill this review with crying face and heart eyes emojis because I’m pretty sure if I was a piñata that’s what I’d be full of right now. This was beautiful and perfect and totally made me ugly cry in all the best ways. So, so good!

Honestly, I don't want this series to ever end. The Kraken gave me a lot throughout the series and I never wanna let it go. Jax, Arkon, Rhea, Dracchus, Kronus, Vasil, and Ector, deserve all the stars in the sky and the beauty of the sea. All of them, including their mates and younglings, the people of The Watch, and Halora altogether. THEY DESERVE EVERYTHING.

The Kraken series has always had a special place inside my heart since Jax's story and will always be. Forever the Kraken and humans live happily ever after. With lots of love, goodbye to my beloved Krakens. I will always love you all. Thank you to Tiffany Roberts for writing this beautiful series with adorable, lovable, gorgeous characters and stunning, entertaining, intense, heart-wrenching plots that made my heart flowery and bubbly. You gave me a whole new world to get lost in and I couldn't thank you more.

P.S. I cried my balls out because of Hera and Luke story. They were the bravest couple before everything.

What I loved was that the couple in this story is older - Kathryn is 52 and Ector is 60. And while neither are ready to fade away, they don't feel as if life has any more new adventures for them to undertake. A journey to rediscover life and meaning leads them to a forgotten shore with a history just begging to be told to a new generation. Can they survive the perils that they face while coming to appreciate the joys that they have?
not a fast paced or action packed story, but the emotions evoked from the finding of Luke and Hera's love affair is not to be disregarded.

And they all lived happily ever after

Kathryn has had a full life. She was a hunter, loved and married, became a mother twice over, lost her love to the sea, learned a new craft to be close to her children and later her grandchildren. But now life is a little empty. It's full of people, but lonely. Those people have their own mates and kids now. She may have years but she's not so old that she's done living yet.
Ector is an elder. Longer lived than most kraken before him. Peace with the humans has allowed kraken to relax. It's not all survival mode anymore. Watching Kathryn decide to rediscover herself makes him wonder if there's a purpose for an old kraken. He decides to be her protector on this journey of rediscovery. What they find is more than just a purpose, but a reason.

Spoilers ahead.
What a gentle close to this series. Sweet and sappy, and in the best way. Kathryn has lived but she's not ready to retire just yet. Ector is old but still has so much left to give. They discover that age doesn't mean passion is gone, both in love and in life. A find gives them a new look at humanity during the kraken's creation and rebellion, and a new story to add to Ector's collection. This doesn't have the conflicts that drove the earlier books, but it is no less powerful for it. While I will miss out on meeting more kraken I'm glad that the series isn't extending so far that it's repetitive.

Drama, action, romance, tender moments, discovery, fear and deep love and connection curl around each other to create a masterful book.

Kathryn is an older woman who's family has grown, and she lives alone in a life that has become more boring lonely routine than enjoyment. Ector, an elder kraken, is also unsettled about his life, and just as lonely. They are both looking for something, but it takes a journey on the sea, together to realize what they both needed, each other.

The world creation in this book was creative and extraordinary. From the descriptions of Halora, both land and sea, to the various creatures, to the leaked themselves, the words brought this novel to life in glorious, vibrant fashion. The descriptions of Ector alone, and how he could change color and move were fantastic.

Both Kat and Ector were searching for something, in one way, themselves, in another someone to complete them, to share their lives and hearts. The journey they go on is such a masterful adventure, with so many quiet, lovely moments. From Ector dancing for Kat, to Kat cooking for Ector, to learning about the much older human and kraken couple Hera and Luke, to Ector and Kat coming together.

There were also heart pounding moments, moments that made your heart stop, none more so than in the last couple of chapters. You know everything is going to work out, but getting there was adrenaline fueled.

A wonderfully enjoyable novel and I so look forward to the rest in this series!

lovely

Aaaw, the series has come to an end. I honestly could’ve gone forever reading more kraken/human couples. I have to say, the tentacles grew on me. It didn’t happen that I actively found them appealing in that way until about the fourth or fifth book, but it happened. I’m a convert. It’s been added to the list.

I truly enjoyed Ector’s and Kathryn’s romance. Also, a more mature couple love story??? They’re too rare and it was so lovely, and well done, in my opinion. Ugh. So good. Ector is in the running against Arkon for first place. Honestly, I teared up a few times. I adore both main characters individually and as a couple.

I always wondered if we’d get some more info on how the kraken ended up with the code to go in and out of the Facility. I’m happy they sort of addressed that in this last installment in Hera and her mate’s story. What an epic love story and history for the people of Halora. A love for the ages. It was very bittersweet.

This is among my favorite, if not my favorite, in the series. It felt the most emotional out of all of them. Brava. What a good ending for something I never want to end.

I have cheated somewhat and read Book 1 and Book 7. It was great to see Macy now having three children and the outcomes of some of the other Kraken. Ector is introduced in Book 1 and accepts Macy into the group, with provisos. A lot has happened between these two books obviously and Ector is now re-evaluating his future. Kathryn is a widow living in The Watch and is also embarking on a course of self re-discovery.
It's a 'road-trip' kind of book and the two have a series of adventures, experiences and a coming together of each other. There's no angst, miscommunication or separation; just a lovely, heartwarming romance with some interesting tentacle play (LOL).
The two MCs are in their 50s and complain about aches and pains. Kathryn is concerned that her body is not what it used to be, Ector, whilst still looking good, displays his status as a wise man and elder and points out that Kathryn's body is testament to her experiences as wife, mother, worker. In short he adores her and her body.
A fitting end to what looks like a fantastic series.

This is the last book in the series. As sad as I am to see it end, the story was a beautiful way to end it. There was so much hopefulness and love, and the promise of happily ever after for everyone was perfect. And the story within the story, of Luke and Hera, was especially poignant.

The couple in this story is the oldest I've ever read (at 50 and 60 respectively), but it didn't change how I felt about their story. If anything, I was surprised at how familiar some of their feelings were. They are both trying to find their place and who they are in this phase of their lives, and I get that. There are so many times in our lives when we have to ask ourselves the questions of who am I and who do I want to be? From first entering adulthood and going out on your own, to getting married, having children, changing careers, etc. Each change is scary and exciting, and this story really captured that feeling of adventure and discovery.

I loved the series and I will probably end up rereading it in the future.

“we can’t live our lives around what-ifs. We’d never do anything worth doing if we did that.”

“I… I have lived a long life, Kathryn. There has been good and bad. Whatever I have left, whatever else is to come, I want to face it with you.”

“You have lived. You have loved. Your body has created and carried life. There is only beauty to be found here, Kathryn.”

I can’t believe it’s over 😭

Hands down the BEST kraken monster romance series imo. It had everything and this was a nice, wholesome way to wrap everything up. I’m definitely rereading this series in the future. The fact that this was an older couple (h 50, H 60) was refreshing to see in a monster romance and just romance in general. Also, the hero was one of those fictional guys that reminds you that it’s rare to find ppl like that irl🥲

Oh and shout out to Luke and Hera, your story made me tear up

I’m Not Crying, You Are

As soon as I realized it was the last book of the series, I put the book back on the shelf for OVER A MONTH. I didn’t want this series to end. But I can’t even be mad because it was worth the wait…

Focal point of this story is acknowledging that new things aren’t always a bad thing. From Ector’s reflection of past mistakes to Kat’s reflection of past choices, they find themselves in the same boat, literally, figuratively, and metaphorically. Sailing through each others lives as bystanders of another’s love story.

If you’re looking for a book, let alone series that emulates the raw emotions of humans and slaps in some monster romance that ranges from a plush teddy bear to California reaper bombshell, this is the series to dive into.

My heart is full and I’m appreciative of this series and will recommend it to all generations as a must/read because yes.. Mhm, lol. Spice meter: Passionate~

This book was almost gentle.
I loved it.
I think it was much sweeter and more romantic than the others in the series. A really satisfying ending to the Kraken series.
I loved that each book in this series had a different take on its setting. All the Kraken to get mates had their own adventures and adversaries and the landscape for each took in a new view of Halora.
This one was Kathryn and Ector sailing and camping along the coastline by themselves, and everything they found along the way was beautiful.

So glad I finished the series. This was the perfect book to end on. It made my heart hurt with its sweetness. You could feel the love between these two radiate from the pages.
So freaking good!

A beautiful finish to a wonderful series !

What I truly liked about this book is that it's about 2 beings who are older . Not older as in 30's but as in 50's and 60's . I think this is the first book that I've read that is about romance in an older age group . I gave 4 🌟 because at times the story seemed to lag and also because of several errors n grammar . Other than these the story was sweet , kind and had an absolutely beautiful ending. Thank you Tiffany and Robert . I look forward to your other works !

Worthy finish

Lover is a perfect ending to the series. Ector and Kat were written perfectly for each other.
I am a voracious reader and would have liked the books to be longer just because I end up missing the characters all too soon. Btw Kane is a hoot and had me actually laughing out loud. Because of my age I am considered a mature adult, with children of my own in there 30 somethings so I connected with Kat in a very real way. Her and Ectors story is a worthy finish that touched me in a deep and sincere way. Thank you for the experience.

Sweet, Relevant, and Oh so lovable!

The entire Kraken series was such a wonderful reading experience, but I must say that book 7 hit me right in the heart in all the right ways. I cried on numerous occasions, never for anything bad, but it just felt so good and pulled on all of the right heart strings to see the characters evolve and watch their history bloom into a present and future worth living.

The spice was also perfectly balanced with plot. I highly recommend the entire series.

I'm honestly disappointed because I actually like this couple, but I feel like the book skipped half the story with all the time jumps. First awkward encounter? Skip a few days. Start the journey? Skip a few days. Build up to him dancing for her? Skip her reaction and a few days Almost died and time to head home? End of the book, skip a year to the epilogue. There was so little relationship development on the page I felt like I missed something. Definitely an example of, "show me, don't tell me."

Who knew that stories featuring aquatic creatures and humans in love could be so enthralling?

As a writing team, Tiffany Roberts, has become the new darling of contemporary, romantic science fiction! Discover in their books how the coming together of two different species can spawn thrilling and romantic tales of love lost and love found against a backdrop of plausible alien reality. Great reading combined with a subtle warning about what attributes make us human.
