Do not start this book unless you have time!!
warning: Do not start in between examinations (from experience)
YOU guys, When I read the first 3 chapters, I got this feeling, you know, the one that says this is going to be good; you feel the characters, connection with them and the narration is promising.
Anddd I was not wrong !!
This book is just so beautiful you guys, To be honest, I was a tat bit afraid this book might be heavy for me because trafficking is a heavy topic for me but I love how the author handled it all, honest, beautiful to the core!
In this book, we follow the story and journey of Beau and Paisley Reyna, who have faced their different demons of suffering and now should go back to those who hurt them to save a little one's life and destroy the lethal South America's trafficking network.
The adrenaline flow you are going to have throughout his book is pretty promising, what I like the most is how the author managed to write all these heavy topics and include gospel, true healing, and realistic circumstances, and also made the book not so heavy, I'm not someone who can read blood and fight much but there was only one mention of dead bodies that I skipped except that I did not even feel uncomfortable anywhere. I thought I would skip the details on trafficking, but the author JJ Samie wrote in such a way that there was nothing to skip in gory details. Every time our heroine Paisley handled those thoughts is simply amazing. A breed-apart team was simply adorable!! their connection, the togetherness, the brotherhood. I love how they risked their lives to save people, and to be there for each other.
Beau aka Danger might not have a pretty face but He sure has my heart, his character is maybe one of the most realistic characters I have read, his scarred face and body, his courageous heart, his intense love for his loved ones, his hate for himself, his guilt, everything felt like you can understand why he is like that, and I just wanted to give him a big hug though he might refuse it. My heart was so happy with how his story went.
Now now, don't think Beau gets all compliments. The real conqueror in this book is Reyna, you guys. My heart was torn and mended back for her. Poor Beau has no game for his gruff self in front of her. She wins hearts. I loved how brave she was. True healing is not in scars or body, it's how to conquer the thoughts, and the way she always chose God's word to do it was touching, and encouraged me to do the same. There was a moment where she could choose to listen to the voice of her captor so she could free Beau, That was a practical and promising outcome, but she chose to believe that God's decision would save her, In that moment If it were me I would have maybe chosen my mind. That ri8 there was a special moment I had with the book about how it showed me myself.
Their romance is so cute, I was squealing when they had their first kiss because it is so much more!! My professor thought I was chatting with my bf on the phone. LOL
Don't even get me started on RIOT. That lethal teddy bear just stole my heart!!! He made me laugh, feel Aww, and also proud.
Despite all these heavy topics, I was laughing out loud so many times, and DO NOT forget my warning, you can't concentrate on anything else. LOL, but it was amazing.
This book is honest, raw, and something you want people to heal like.
Hope you enjoy it just as much as I did.

This book was incredible! It had fantastic romantic tension between the two main characters, Beau and Paisley, who each had their own very traumatic backstories. Their initial meeting in the book did not go well and that ramped up the frustration level on both sides. However, it was great to see them both recognize the importance of working together to help Riot adjust to having Paisley as his handler.
The level of action and danger in this story made it difficult for me to set the book down! I stayed up late into the night in order to finish this story. I loved seeing these two characters open their hearts up to each other, when previously they both were reluctant to let people in. They were so great together! And I really felt like I was experiencing the difficult trek through the jungle with the team. I loved this story from start to finish!

Man, that was some fun! Overflowing with adrenaline, fast-paced action, and intense strategy to bring down the bad guys, the book starts in high gear and doesn’t wind down until the very end. Kudos to author JJ Samie Myles on a job well-done on her debut novel. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
Beau was an amazing hero and warrior - battle-scarred yet still wanting to right the wrongs, haunted by his past yet working to overcome his demons and addictions, hurting yet protective and fiercely loyal. Paisley was an admirable heroine as well - compassionate and loving even when it’s difficult, brave even when facing crippling fear. Beau and Paisley both struggle with PTSD when they re-enter Venezuela and it was somewhat difficult to read about what they both suffered through and how they escaped the first time around. Still, there were poignant moments of reconciliation and forgiveness, as well as great romantic scenes. But, of course, the real hero of the book was Riot and I loved this dog’s intelligence, work ethic, boundless energy, and unswerving loyalty.

Get ready for a harrowing ride! Author JJ Samie Myles delivers a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat story that will leave you breathless. If a story makes me hold my breath, I am here for it, and Riot did just that. I can't begin to say how many times my heart was racing throughout this story! I loved it.

At the very beginning, this story captivated my heart and my attention. From Beau (Danger's) battles with addiction and loss of direction in his life to the loss Paisley was grieving and the struggle she faced with Riot, my heart was invested in the story. As the story continued, I adored the precious relationship Beau had with his niece, Lyric, as well as with Riot. I loved the discovery over time of learning about Beau's past as well as Paisley's and enjoyed their swoon-worthy, budding romance. I was cheering them on all the way.
With a strong faith thread that I appreciated, I thoroughly enjoyed the other elements of the story such as the intense suspense, high-stakes action, team camaraderie, humor and incredible displays of courage. Because this story deals with human trafficking, I felt it was delivered well, in a way that presents hope and light amidst a very dark and dangerous underworld. The strength, determination and perseverance of the main characters was wonderfully presented and inspiring.
The sweet, heartwarming ending perfectly tied up the story and made me wish it wasn't over just yet.
Overall, I loved this book! This entire series so far has been a thrilling, gut-wrenching ride and I highly recommend this standalone to readers who love military styles stories that offer harrowing danger, battles between good and evil, heroism, faith, romance and working dogs!

Every book in this series so far has captured me from start to finish. They're impossible to put down! This was so intense and the two main characters had such emotionally wrenching arcs, I couldn't stop turning pages. Another fantastic addition to the series!

Riot by Ronie Kendig and J.J. Samie Myles was my favorite A Breed Apart novel from Sunrise Publishing. Plenty of action through the jungles of Venezuela and a hint at human trafficking. I enjoyed the way the characters had deep hurts from the past that actually tied them together. They changed and grew as the story moved along. As for the romance, it was a little quick in my opinion. The story takes place in about two weeks’ time, then jumps to a month later when the couple were planning to have their happily-ever-after moment with each other. Yes, I know they struggled and were willing to let down some walls, and they believed that each other would make them better. They were on the path to starting a good solid relationship, but the story ended with the predictable proposal, and I shook my head in dismay. Not yet. Overall, Riot by Ronie Kendig and J. J. Samie Myles was a nicely woven story with plenty of action, and I love the transformation of the characters, but the romance really did not ring true for me.

RIOT is a story about a Navy SEAL who has lost himself after the trauma of being captured by a cartel after losing his team, and a woman who was used by the same cartel who has just lost the only family she has left. They're brought together by a MWD (military working dog) and the common goal of fighting against the cartel. If you enjoy military romantic suspense with the added pleasure of a mischievous dog, you might enjoy this story.
I really liked the beginning of this story as I enjoy military suspense. I also really liked the characters with their feisty, tough exteriors, but soft hearts. They were both loyal, capable and had the best of intentions. I am a huge dog fan, so I had to laugh at the all the moments with Riot as well. The story moves at a steady pace with some climatic moments, building in intensity towards the end.
I've been a fan of Ronie Kendig for a long time. If you've read The Quite Professionals or The Metcalfs series by her you'd know that she writes intense, hold-on-to-your-seat-and-never-let-go, military romantic suspense. This is the second story I've read where she is presenting another author. The story plot is very much Kendig, but the execution and the writing is by JJ Samie Myles in this case. I had high expectations going in and those expectations weren't met at all as the story proceeded. There were so many romantic cliches and idioms, at least one per page (sometimes an idiom in each paragraph). After a while it felt like a story thrown together with forced romance (such as right after an altercation with the enemy where girls who were trafficked needed support, but the two main characters are thinking about romance). There were military aspects that didn't make sense to me or feel researched properly. It felt unrealistic, forced, and not organic. I pushed on as this was for a review, but after a while, I couldn't even do that and didn't finish. There is potential here. I think there needs to be a lot more editing and development before it gets there.
In the end, was it what I wished for? This story didn't work for me as it wasn't up to the level I expect. However, those who don't have those same expectations and are looking for romantic military suspense, heavy on the romance and faith element, may enjoy this one.

Riot was an action-packed military thriller, filled with suspenseful moments, heartbreaking events, and some fun lol moments when Paisley struggled to keep Riot controlled.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ,” Paisley recited Galatians 6:2. “I’m so grateful to God for our friendship.”
This author was mentored by Ronie Kendig, and it ended in a great novel with a lot of accurate military language, great banter among team members, descriptive action scenes and dealing with hard realistic issues.
Beau (Danger) and Paisely were strong characters with a lot of hurt from the past which still crept through in the present. Their pasts were not pretty but they tried each day to make the best of their today.
this crazy peace. When I asked her about it, she told me that if my image of God depends on my experiences and feelings, my faith will constantly waver. But if I hold on to who the Bible says He is, nothing can shake my faith. That changed everything for me.”
Riot - I loved this four-legged hero. I felt that the author did a great job of showing the loving attitude of man’s best friend, but the dangerous war-hero side as well.
I also loved the way the characters’ spiritual struggles and faith came naturally as part of the plot and who the characters were.
Bravery isn’t being fearless. It’s being scared and doing it anyway.”
I love this series and am looking forward to the last two books coming out later this year.

In this story Ronie Kendig and J.J. Samie Myles partner up to deliver a past faced adventure in the jungle of Venezuela. This book has a little bit of everything if you are looking to read about a daring excurison, drug cartel, Navy Seals, and a mission to save a kidnapped child. The star of the book though is Riot, a miltary trained sniffing narcotics dog. Kendig and Myles weave the story of Paisley (Riot's owner) and Danger's growing romance through all the drama that unfolds as both of them have to come to grips with the past when they end up back in Venezuela.
This is the third book I've read in this series and as a dog lover I've enjoyed reading about these highly trained dogs, and the incredible ability that they have.

As a huge fan of the author, I am always excited to dive into another story. I love what Sunrise Publishing is doing and how they choose to partner with excellent authors like JJ Samie Myles. I was blown away at how quickly I was caught up in the story and the enemies-to-lovers trope. I loved all the action and suspense. The story moves quickly and I appreciated the look into survivors of trafficking. Faith is woven throughout the story and I loved Riot. All of these stories in this series have been amazing and such a fast read.
Highly recommend this fast-paced, action-packed Christian romantic suspense that will keep you reading until the end!

I have to be honest, I didn't finish this book. I put it down over 2 weeks ago and despite trying, I haven’t been able to pick it back up, yet. So why the 3 star review? Wouldn't you rate a book you didn't finish with just 1 star? I'm glad you asked.
I’ve long been a fan of Ronie Kendig, so when I saw she was continuing her A Breed Apart series with new authors writing the subsequent books, I was intrigued. I enjoy military fiction and that series in particular is one of my favorites. This story is written by JJ Samie Myles and from the beginning, I loved the characters! Beau and Paisley climbed right off the pages and into my imagination, telling me their story with compelling detail. The characters, the writing, the compelling story, those are why I’m still rating this book with 3 stars. I didn’t finish it because of me. Because I couldn’t handle reading the violence depicted. If this book were a movie, I expect it would be rated PG-13 for violence. But when I haven’t read or watched violence in a while, it troubles me. That’s what happened with this book. I really want to finish it! But I won’t, at least, not right now. I want to know what happens with Beau and Paisley. And maybe, one day I’ll start it over and be able to read to the end. I hope so. I was greatly enjoying it, before the violence smacked me in the face.
All that to say, I would still recommend this book. If you enjoy military fiction, compelling characters and a fast-paced story, then maybe try this one! Just be braced for the action/violence, if you’re sensitive to it.

I have loved this whole series and all characters so far, but Myles set herself apart in my mind as she included realistic faith messages that flowed out of the characters in a natural as breathing manner. She addresses hard topics like surviving human trafficking and empowering survivors to move forward as well as working through survivors’ guilt and the hero complex of thinking it all depends on you to save the day. Both the female and male main characters work through tough real-life issues while tromping through the hot muggy rain forests of South America.
The action-packed story line kept me on the edge of my chair and unable to put the book down. She is without a doubt going on my favorite author list.

I absolutely loved Riot by Ronie Kendig and JJ Samie Myles. Riot is packed with adrenaline, action, suspense, and great character development and growth. Prepare yourself to get sucked into a high-intensity, action-packed thrilling fight for justice, healing, and survival when you pick up Riot. I think you will thoroughly enjoy Riot, just make sure you have time to dedicate to reading it because it will be very hard to put down! You have been warned ;).
There are several reasons I absolutely loved and appreciated Riot, including the action, great and deep characters, the humor and feistiness of the main characters, the complex and heart-tugging plot to name a few. Another aspect of Riot that I genuinely appreciated was how Ms. Myles tied in the very real mental health issues that plague so many in our society. I appreciated the Christian perspective on counseling and the issues that both Paisley and Danger dealt with. Each had past traumas, hurts, scars, and yet were able in their own ways to survive. I appreciated the very realistic struggles that each character dealt with, their griefs, pains, and doubts. Basically, the whole book was excellent and an outstanding debut novel for Ms. Myles. I cannot wait to read more! I highly recommend Riot and sincerely hope you have the opportunity to read it and enjoy it as much as I have. Happy reading!

They're thrown into a more dangerous situation when Danger's niece Lyric is kidnapped by the same cartel that took Paisley. Nothing will keep Danger from getting Lyric back, and Paisley is determined to go because she knows how the cartel treats women, and she wants to help both Lyric and any other trafficked girls they might find. And it is off to the races with the tension and the action and the adrenaline rush!
Both Danger and Paisley are fighting to throw off the effects of their past. Paisley sees God's hand at work, but Danger is sure God has abandoned him. Paisley has faith enough for them both, though, and she gently shares that faith with Danger. Even when she is in mortal peril herself, when the world in the form of her captor gives Paisley the opportunity to save Danger's life, she trusts God's plan more than what her captor offers. She does the right thing even when it must have felt nearly impossible. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how things unfolded!
JJ Samie Myles writes a wonderful team dynamic. The team going after Lyric may be in harm's way, but they won't let Danger go it alone no matter how rough things get. And they're there for the fun stuff, too! Danger gets a little ribbing over his feelings for Paisley even when they're in the middle of the jungle, and the happily ever after scene (come on, you knew there was going to be one) is a hoot.
If you love a book with a marvelous K-9 character, two flawed people working through to redemption, clean romance, and a boatload of suspense, you will love RIOT. Highly recommend!

Wow, this book was an adrenaline rush from start to finish. I could NOT put it down!
From page ONE I was riveted - thrown into Ronie and JJ’s world of heart-stopping suspense, thrilling action, and nail-biting rescue. But this world was also overflowing with mutual healing, breakthrough, and great love. So much love, between two characters who rarely vocalized the actual word love. But, actions speak louder than words, don’t they?
Highlights:
I love that at a certain point, Paisley became “blind” to Beau’s scars, she just didn’t see them anymore. Instead, she saw him through the eyes of love, which made him beautiful to her. I also love that she called him “Beau” even though he asked her on more than one occasion to call him Danger (his military call sign). Did she bend? Nope. She kept right on reminding him how he looked in her eyes. Plus, he was the opposite of “danger”, to her, and maybe she just wanted to keep letting him know that she was all-too-aware of that fact. Nope. She wasn’t scared of him, or his scars.
I loved that Paisley’s invisible/emotional scars were never an obstacle to Beau. Sure, he had imaginings about what she’d suffered, especially once he realized who her abuser was (something they had in common), but he didn’t let that affect their relationship. He became more and more tender wherever she was concerned, until he was putty in her hands. Say what? A big strong hero becoming a pile of mush? Umm…yes, please! And did I mention he gets his healing too?
This series of books just hit it out of the park for me. First Havoc, then Chaos, now Riot - and end result: I feel absolutely at home in this ABA community. Plus, bonus: in this installment we get updates on the other couples we’ve been following (Crew and Foxtrot, Cathal and Rio). I love the support and encouragement (and backup) they give each other. Where do I send my application for ABA?

This book is filled with warriors/heroes of the two-legged kind and four-legged kind. Some are wounded physically and mentally. These heroes share one common trait and that is passionate loyalty for their comrades and willingness to die for them.
The opening scene of this book is tragic and so incredibly sad. I have to admit I cried a little. Combat is ugly and it leaves scars. Navy SEAL K-9 handler, Beau "Danger" Maddox bears the scars inside and outside. He is carrying around some major baggage and scary anger, with good reason.
Paisley Reyna is a trafficking survivor who is now a trauma counselor. She can relate well to those who have suffered because she has been there. She has inherited a retired MWD, Riot. Riot is a perfect name for this Dutch Shepherd. She is having a hard time with Riot, but she refuses to give him up as he is the last part of her friend that she possesses. Her first meeting with Beau does not go well as Beau loves and relates better to dogs than people.
They begin working together to teach her how to deal with Riot. The road will be rocky, but Paisley is not a droopy little flower. Beau soon learns that she is made of steel, and she bears scars as well.
This is a high adrenaline thriller which will take you deep into the jungles of Venezuela and into a dangerous area ran by the Guerrero Cartel. Both Paisley and Beau will have to fight an enemy as well as their bad memories as they attempt a rescue. This is definitely a suspense-filled thriller, but there is a wonderful underlying faith message of forgiveness, mercy and grace, and learning to let go of the past. It is also a story of healing and accepting the vulnerabilities of life. The characters will steal your heart as they fight mental and physical battles. They will also command your respect. Sometimes heroes do not wear capes. They wear camouflage.
I could write a book on how much I loved this book and the characters within it. It is a one night read. Trust me. You will not be able to stop reading it once you start it.

The opening scene of this book is tragic and so incredibly sad. I have to admit I cried a little. Combat is ugly and it leaves scars. Navy SEAL K-9 handler, Beau "Danger" Maddox bears the scars inside and outside. He is carrying around some major baggage and scary anger, with good reason.

Just as I did its two predecessors in Ronie Kendig's A Breed Apart: Legacy series, I devoured book #3, Riot! I was totally enamored with its protagonists Danger (a.k.a. Beau) Maddox and Paisley Reyna (not to mention their four-legged compatriot, Riot). Reyna has inherited Riot, a former Military Working Dog (MWD) from her recently deceased relative. Not only does she have no idea what to do with a fierce MWD, she isn't prepared at all for her new neighbor. Who *is* someone who can work with one.
Danger is newly returned from a mission which ended badly; very badly, in fact, for himself and for his SEAL teammates. He returns home unsure of how he will move forward, or what he can do, with the injuries which have impacted him on a significant degree. But when he finds a dog shut up in a hot car in the Texas Hill Country, he's more than incensed. (Like breaking-windows-level of incensed--even though the windows were opened for a bit of breeze.) Paisley had stepped aside to answer a call from a desperately broken young woman in need of counsel. And when she returns to the car, she finds the dog she can't handle, along with a large man who's breaking her car window.
Despite this tumultuous meeting, it seems that Danger and Paisley have more in common than just the dog (who loves the guy and ignores the woman). They share personal reasons to fight against a South American cartel. And when Danger agrees to train Pais to work with Riot, they may find more in common than they've imagined. And that's before things really go awry...
Vividly described events, marvelous characters, and a fantastic dog make Riot a marvelous read. I highly recommend it!

Riot is a downright thrill ride that is not to be missed.
Danger Maddox loved his work as a Navy SEAL K-9 handler until it all went wrong on an op. Now he is trying to work past the PTSD and find his place I the world. When his new neighbor shows up with a retired military dog she inherited but has no idea how to handle, he ends up put in the position to help. Paisley Reyna has a past full of baggage having survived human trafficking at the hands of the Guerrero Cartel and now works as a trauma counselor trying to help others. Her first meeting with Danger Maddox doesn’t go well and she is hesitant to let him be the one to help her with Riot. When the Cartel shows its face close to town, Riot is needed to help and Danger comes in as his handler and Paisley is afraid she could lose one or both of them, especially now that she has grown to care for both.
Ronie Kendig along with Samie Myles have crafted a fantastic military thriller that is full of heart, action, tension and a fury sidekick that steals the show. I have loved the first books in this series and this one is right there with them. Paisley and Riot stole the show for me, I loved the two of them and the way she had to overcome so much but didn’t waver in what she needed to do to help others so they didn’t have to go through the hard things she did. She didn’t let Danger get under her skin in the way he could have, instead stayed strong in what she knew was her purpose and didn’t let anything stop her. Danger was a hard character to like at first but with the past he had and what he had to deal with it was easy to see why, and he was written to perfection with what he had to deal with and overcome. I would recommend this book and all those in this series who enjoy military thrillers and fast action.

One thing that I have come to expect from the A Breed Apart: Legacy series is an intense read and boy was Riot intense! It was apparent from the beginning that this was going to be a novel that would be hard to put down, and my early assumption was correct. I read Riot practically in one sitting and loved every suspenseful moment.
I love how intense this series is! It takes you all over the world and puts you in these intense situations with the characters for every heart-pounding moment. I have to admit that I was apprehensive about the subject matter of this particular novel, but the author handled this incredibly tough subject matter beautifully. Honestly, it made me feel hopeful that we as a people can one day eliminate human trafficking once and for all, and it’s a great reminder that there are ways out there to help the victims.
What truly won me over with this novel, besides the intense suspense, was the characters. Paisley is one of those characters that has a light about her. Her faith is admirable, especially when you learn about everything that she’s been through, and how she has chosen to use her nightmare to help others, is nothing short of amazing. Pair her with Danger, an incredibly fleshed-out character that had my heart from the first chapter, and Riot, the lethal service dog with the sweetest personality, and you’ve got one amazing novel.
I love this series so much and each installment gets better and better. I can’t wait to see what adventure the author will take us on next!

WOW, I can't say enough good things about RIOT, written by JJ Samie Myles and presented by Ronie Kendig. Myles brings forth a hero, Beau "Danger" Maddox who is trying to put his life back together after his eye injury takes him out of the service. Paisley is attempting to put her life back together after her cousin's suicide, and trying to take on a dog whose skills she doesn't understand. Both Danger and Paisley have trauma in their past, yet, they're trying to find freedom to let go and move on.
The only problem is without true faith, that's hard to do. Paisley has found the Rock she needs to stand on in times of fear and trouble. Danger is still seeking it. But, when trouble comes a-knocking they're both put to the test. Danger, learns to put his trust in the One who can save his niece, Paisley, his make-shift team and himself when he has to fight his way out of the enemy's trap.
I loved this book because of the sentiment of faith, the hope in love, and the Power of the One who sustains us. Myles did a fabulous job with this book and it kept me quickly turning the page, not even wanting to take a break!! I give this book a 5 out of 5. With a great story, fabulous words, and a bucket full of love that's mixed with hope this book gives the truth of love wings to fly ...

Riot packs a powerful punch in every way! Not only does the MWD Riot grab your emotions, but the story will cause a riot with your emotions as you go on this grief-stricken journey towards healing with Paisley and Danger.
The beginning of this book was hard to read! Danger and Paisley were each in mourning for different things, which was still so strong and new and real that they weren’t ready to look beyond it. All the usual sparks and fun tension took on new depths, so when the bad guys came calling, the stakes were super high!
I loved that. I felt like I had to be on Danger and Paisley’s side even though I didn’t know their full stories yet – but I wanted to. Those stories dribbled out as the story progressed, never fast enough to satisfy my curiosity but always keeping the pages turning fast. Actually, I think Paisley needs her own origin story – so I’d love it if you could get right on that. I need to know more.

Riot: A Breed Apart Novel (A Breed Apart: Legacy Book 3) by Ronie Kendig and JJ Samie Myles is an action-packed story that takes your breathe away right from the beginning. I had thought that since Navy SEAL K-9 handler Beau “Danger” Maddox had made it back home alive, the story would be more romance than action. Boy, was I wrong. Yes, there is romance but the action overwhelms it early on in the story.
Being that a grumpy, angry character is paired with a sunshine looking-to-the-Lord character, conflict is to be expected. However, this is not the major conflict or the cause of the serious danger that they find themselves in, needing help from others. In addition you ca help but love, respect and perhaps fear a little the retired military working dog, Riot, A marvelous Christian story where prayer is part of it but then they do they next right thing. God honors, helps, and guides the characters without the story giving simple answers on the suffering that happens in life.
Highly recommend to all romantic suspense readers out there, but especially to those who read Christian romantic suspense.
