I read the prequel as an ARC and was given the opportunity to also read this book as an ARC as well.

This book. This now series, has me swept in and now I have to wait for the next one.

The last chapter gave me chills, my jaw dropped, had to put my kindle down for a few to gather my thoughts. It was a twist I was not expecting until right before the MMC said it!

I have just fallen in love with Nkita and so hope Em stays put!

A compelling second part of this series. I really like the world this series is set in, and the introduction on the new characters in this book is really great l. I like where the story is leading as it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so hopefully, we will get more of this story soon!

4.5/5

I was not the biggest fan of the prequel just because there was a lot going on, and it was so darn short. This book was so much better than the prequel. Omg so much happened and still loose ends that I feel need to be tied up. The only reason this book isn't 5 stars is because Em got on my freaking nerves the entire book!! She made me want to slap her so hard. She kept wanting to sacrifice herself without even talking to Nkita! She knew if she was captured, she'd be used against Nkita! Like, come on!! But Nkita is amazing!! Ugh!! Swoon!! He fought for her and for them both! Tooth and nail! Though I feel that Cza was overthrown a little too quickly for my liking, there's still things that were left open for another book.

Why am I shocked that this made me giggle and fall in love with the characters?

There were multiple times where I was kicking my legs and giggling like a fool. I was shocked.

Don't get me wrong, I read the prequel and I left a review. I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked into this ARC and believe me, it wasn't that. This is so good.

Does it come off as a little underdeveloped? Yes.
Could I have used a little more thought process between the time jumps? Sure.
Could the story been fleshed out a little more to provide a stronger structure? Yep.

Am I still happy I read it, even if there are birds...griffins......? 100% yes.

Way to go TC for getting a gal like me to read a monster fantasy book and actually enjoy it, and want to read more.

3.5/5 Stars

Before reading this arc from the Twisted Blades series, I read the prequel Ripples For Skies. Like the prequel, I loved the slow burn between Nkita and Emyri! No matter how Emyri tried to lessen the dangers that Nkita possibly experienced, he always found her. Rivers For Storms touches more on how deeply Nkita feels about Emyri and how far he is willing to sacrifice his title and life for his mate. Although Emyri is irritating in most of this book, her intentions were identical to Nkita to protect one another! It was easy to connect with the FMC and MMC as their relationship endures the test of loyalty and survival as a war between the Crylia and Tru human tribe arises.

Emyri and Nkita are in hiding, and Emyri knows that if she stays too close to him, she will be his downfall. So despite her love for him, she decides to run. For his sake. Emyri embarks on a thrilling adventure throughout the Cryl lands meeting an entire cast of characters before unintentionally returning home to her lost love, only to realize that all of those that she met along the way have one thing in common: they're tied to her. Just when I thought there was no way for the tension to rise, it did. Tess did an amazing job of keeping me enthralled in this story and foaming at the mouth for more, all while creating a beautiful world that I never wanted to leave! 5/5 ⭐ 3/5🌶

I read this after reading Ripples. I definitely liked this one better. There's more going on, more plot, more relationship building. Much more of what I was looking for. The end is intriguing and I look forward to the next one!

I can't imagine what everyone went through having to wait after reading the first one!

It's hard to make a long review on this book without spoilers, but just know it was a fantastic read.

As with the first one, I enjoyed the glossary being there in the front for me. It's always frustrating when it's in the back and I give myself spoilers accidentally.

I REALLY liked how we finally got some backstory and met more of the side characters. I loved the story and how it progressed.

I very much enjoyed the plot twists and the places they ended up.

The very few things I didn't like were: I don't think the story was really added to by Nkita losing his wing. It's weird to imagine in my head and it feels more like it was done just to create conflict where there might not have been one otherwise (not being able to fly, not being able to get away quickly, etc). Additionally, I'm not sure I understand why it happened. You could say the loyalty and bloodline thing, but it seems like all he really did was cripple his best General for no reason. Unless that was the point, I suppose. But if Nkita was going to run anyway, why endure his wing being cut off? He could have just fled with his wings intact. Finally, I'm still not getting who Drosya is. They had a realization at the end and set out to find her, but perhaps I wasn't reading between the lines enough because I have no idea why, lol.

I am VERY excited to see more of the series, though. I adore how unique the world is as well. Gryphons don't make an appearance often and not only do they here, but they are somewhere between a gryphon and harpy, and that makes me quite intrigued.

I will start by saying that you should read the prequel, Ripples before Rivers. With back story, character development, and world building in the prequel it allows you to just fully enjoy this story and immerse yourself into the relationship of Em and Nykita.

The relationship in this story grows and the cliffhanger leaves you wanting so much more of their story! I absolutely can’t wait for book 2.

From spies. To family and magic. To uncovering secrets from Em and Nykitas past. Be prepared to step into their world and be flung into the journey of the spy and the soldier.

My only complaints are that there are a few sections where time jumps a little (which did not effect how much I loved the story at all) AND it is much too short. I got to the last page much too quick and need to know how the story ends!

This was a 10/10 read for me. Fun quick magical story that pulls you in from the first page! You definitely need to check it out for yourself!

I was an ARC reader for both Ripples and Rivers!!

As I expected leaving off from Ripples, this is my most favorite TC story!! I don't think it can be topped - amazing amazing amazing world she has built, character dynamics, action, mystery, twists and turns, romance and so much more. No detail is too small or too big - everything always flows and transitions so seamlessly. Em is amazing and I feel her emotions with her and for her. Nkita is much more than I expected and yet again - THIS END!!! Ahhh I need so much more. I could read this story forever. Literally read this in less than a day!!!

Loved book 2 about Em and Nkita. Book 1 (Ripple for Skies was captivating and wasn't a planned series started but so many of us enjoyed it, so that's how this book was born hehe) Lots of twists and turns as they search for a mystery item that needs protection.
Their banter and deep love is so addictive.
Can't wait to find out what happens next.....

I was gifted this directly from the author and ask to leave an honest review if I chose to.

Okay so I enjoyed this book! It was really good & kept me wanting more! Em makes me wanna smack her (sometimes) but the way she protects her own is admirable & I love seeing her & nkita together!! Nkita is so protective over Em & he loves her so much. I’m honestly obsessed with them!!

That cliffhanger tho!! 😭😭 I need the next book please.

4.5…bc cliff hanger and the next book isn’t out yet.

“The sun never knows it’s supposed to be sad. It shines like nothing terrible has ever happened…But the water…she remembers. She holds.” 💜💜💜

I’d suggest reading Ripples for Skies first, a quick read novella prequel that provides some backstory to make this one make sense.

I love Em and Nykita as a couple. Their forbidden love, their banter, each trying to protect the other but going about it all wrong (just spill the secrets already!)…but I despise Em thinking the solution to her problem, or to protect her mate, is to run away. Every time. I mean, as we progress through the story, I just want to shake her and ask “how’s that working out for you?” But Nykita always finds her, I don’t think we’d have a story if he didn’t.

The battle scene as they start out on their quest for Queen Mia, Em proves herself to be a bit of a badass. I loved it. I want more of it. Fortunately or unfortunately, this ends on a cliff hanger, so hopefully I do get more of it in book 2.

If you’re a fan of Blood & Ash and the sort, you’ll like this, too. The spice is a little more on the PG-13 side in the description, compared to what I’m used to, but there is some in this series so far. So far, I’ve found it quite enjoyable and I need the next book, today, Tess!

This one was full of moments I can't wait to reread, but there was also much frustration on my part. I believe everyone should have the freedom to make the sacrifice when the time comes but it honestly felt like time after time Em was trying to sacrifice herself to my utter madness. Because if she was caught then she would be used to hurt Nkita(then they would both die), & if she stayed they would go down fighting together. I fought tooth & nail to make it make sense. I have a warriors heart, so that part just made me furious. My slapping hand was definitely itching. Nkita continued to fight for her & protect her time after time. I see a lot of loose ends to pick up where we left off, as the story is by no means over. I feel like until the Cza is overthrown I will know no peace. There must be another book in the works, surely. I need to see these characters hold their HEA in hand. Gave it 4/5 stars since I feel like it had its shortcomings but overall I would reread & am looking forward to another addition to the series.

Beautiful themes written with a poetic vibe. You MUST read the prequel, Ripples for Skies, first. There's no reason to start with Rivers if you have access to Ripples. This series is part quest/part love story. 2 people fall in love, one from an atheist, warmongering culture of bird-like creatures, mostly existing in the air, where the patriarchy is strong, and one from an earth-based, goddess worshipping people who love peace.

Throughout the book we're learning about the motivations of the characters, some of their backstories. I love a lot of what's here. Sometimes I felt like the author was inferring a connection but not spelling it out and I found myself slightly confused. It crossed my mind that I'm not smart enough to read this author, but I did see another person mention it... She seems to have a way of writing where she's assuming you get what she's really saying, but I'm thinking, maybe I don't always get it. LOL. This series is a ton of fun.

Teshelle Combs is, hands down, an amazing story teller. i read Ripples For Skies before reading this, as it is the prequel leading to Rivers For Storms. everything about both books has fantastic world building and beautiful details. the character dynamics and their growth is wonderfully done. Em & Nkita are perfect for each other and in general. also, their banter is freaking hilarious! it got a few good chuckles outta me.

the plot twists in TC's books will always get you, and this book is no exception to how she has you wide-eyed with your jaw dropping. this book is an adventurous rollercoaster ride for sure. BUT THAT CLIFFHANGER THO... definitely excited and anticipating the continuation of this story.

disclaimer: i received this as an ARC and leave this review voluntarily.

I'd give this book a 3.5 to 4. The concept is still intriguing but overall the book is a little confusing. I don't understand Em's insistence on running. She also seems fairly naive, and it doesn't jive with her history. Some parts seem rushed, and those that weren't were the best parts of the story. I wish it could have been fleshed out more. More detail and character building. Between the prequel and this book the main characters seem to have skipped some important parts of relationship building and jump right to being in love. More explanation of aspects that are supposed to be important would have gone a long way for me. Overall though the book is still imaginative and the concept interesting.

I was fortunate enough to be an ARC reader for the novella before this and then this book. Recommend that you read the novella or short story before this so Ripples before Rivers.

It gives a lot, wings, spies, family, societal classes/hierarchy, fight scenes, and more!

Nk and Em relationship is witty, fun and full of banter. Kinda like an old married couple but better.

The world building and character development in this book is really good, as well as the twists and turns, fights, and new characters introduced. I love more back story. I don't want to spoil anything so you will need to read to find out for yourself how great this book is. I will definitely be continuing cause I need to know how it ends....

Forbidden love because their people are at war with each other, but it’s love, what are you gonna do about it? Especially with these two stubborn characters.
Nkita is so in love with Em, he’s willing to give up his rightful position as Cza of the Crylia. For he knows Em needs his protection even though she’s not sure of the love he has for her or why he does.
Em is a Tru that has been labeled a traitor by her people. She loves her people and is willing to help them still. Even tho her people sent her to be a spy in the cryl territory. Em never expected to fall in love with the enemy but it is what it is. But Em is many things, a traitor, a storyteller, a human, a spy, and most definitely, “she’s a runner, she’s a track star”.

Well. That ending just happened. I was NOT expecting that for sure.
I definitely enjoyed this book more than the prequel novella. There was much more action and information provided. Em did drive me crazy at some points with the constant running. Part of me wants to get her point, but come on.
Love Nk’s character. I am intrigued to learn more about Rizel. I feel like there is going to be something going on with him, but I can’t exactly put my finger on it yet.
🌶️ at 0.5 I am not a fan of the way this is written. It is unorganized and sloppy. I can’t even describe it as fade to black at this point. I hope as the series progresses it will become better in the form of structure. I find it currently distracting, and I love me some 🌶️

Highlights: found family, destiny, war, fated lovers, love triangle
Favorite Character: Em
Honorable Mentions: practically everyone, the authors character building is unmatched
Character that grew on me: Yahara
Favorite Scene: When Em discovered her destiny
Overall thoughts: amazing - the author is notorious for a third act bomb drop that leaves you craving more
Star Rating: 5 out of 5
Why: Great character and world building, engaging from the the beginning, left me wanting more, and just when you think you have something figured out the author throws in a major twist
Previous Predictions: had asked for babies and a happy ever after - might be the opposite of that
Predictions: I swear if Em doesn’t stop running - how does she not see this is putting them in more danger

I was an ARC reader for this spectacular story by the ever amazing Teshelle Combs. This is honestly one of the best books I have read in awhile, I couldn’t put it down and I want sooooooooooo much more of this story. Nkitas character growth throughout the book was so well done and seeing the transformation happen through Ems eyes made it feel like Magic was happening. Ems life has been hectic and she’s gone through soooo much I am definitely glad she found Nkitta a strong warrior type to protect her from some of the evils she faces. You seriously need to read this, it is a must read, I mean like go! Run to get this book 5/5 stars with a 2 spice level <3

Ergh I just couldn't put this book down! Read it within like.... 2 days!
Great story, I am loving it and I really can't wait for the next book! I hope we don't have to wait too long!
I will say that, like the prequel novella, it did feel a little rushed in places. So much more could've been added with more World building, and maybe extra details during that spice 🤣 and the ending had me confused, with how they were talking and stuff I was like "IS SHE OR ISNT SHE!? Where is the clarification!? Or am i reading it wrong!?" 😅 hoping the next book clears that up for me! however I did thoroughly enjoy it. And I look forward to book 2 🤗
