Whispers of war between North and South were riding the wind the summer Jenny Delaney fell in love with Tyler Mackenzie. But high in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, it was still possible to believe in fairy tale endings…even though Jenny knew in her heart that the blood feud between the Delaneys and the Mackenzies was as inescapable as the coming war. Time was fast running out for secret trysts and lovers' dreams, and she would have to choose…between the life she held so dear and the man whose passion made her burn as brightly as the evening star…
Tyler Mackenzie and Jenny Delaney are the last two people who should fall in love. Yet, neither the generations old feud between their families nor the onset of war pitting brother against brother can stop these two from being together unless they give in to the pressures of family, society and treachery.
One of the most incredible romances I have ever read and re-read.
Tyler and Jenny's intense chemistry is only heightened by the forbidden love trope as they meet in secret despite the hatred and prejudice of their families. But, when tragedy and war separates them, they must each decide if their love is strong enough to withstand the fear and hurt that comes between them.
Neri's portrayal of the harsh realities of the American civil war and the devastation and havoc it wreaked on individuals, families and entire communities is both spellbinding and heart-wrenching.
All in all, a wonderful tale of how love can overcome all obstacles and the lengths that people will go to for love of country, family and each other.
Picked this one up on one of my many Goodwill book hunting trips, about 4 years or so ago now. Tossed it on the TBR as I do, and never picked it up again. So, last year, was participating in some Pick-It-For-Me challenges, and this was picked for me to read as my May 2015 book. Fast forward to now, the end of November 2016, and I'm finally getting around to it. Yay procrastination! I've never read this author before, so no preconceived notions of what to expect. Hoping it will be good! Except, Procrastination strikes again, and the 4 pages I read there, end of November went on strike til New Year's Day. For real this time!!! Gonna read this book, on chapter 6 or so now. I Will Finish!!
3.5 Stars! Review coming soon as the kid relinquishes my laptop..
This is one of my favorite romance novels. Whenever I want to put myself in a good mood, I read this book! Definitely recommend it for all you romance novel readers!!!!
3.5 rounded up to 4. Perfect level of angst and historical setting/info. Loved the look into the families, and the resolution. The pacing however was AWFUL and I felt like the hero and heroine had only a surface level physical attraction, not much deeper. The sister was also caricutarily mean
