Thank goodness Christmas only comes once a year, because Barbara just wants to survive it and move on already.

Barbara’s year has not been going well. Both her parents died, she gained a lot of weight, and her husband left her. And now, she’s stuck attending a million holiday parties for work. . .with both her ex and his new girlfriend. She’s not feeling the holiday cheer, that’s for sure.

Bentley, on the other hand, has realized that while his life is pretty good, he really wants to settle down with an amazing woman. Unfortunately, while he’s a whiz at making money, he’s not so great at choosing people to date. He and his old friend Barbara make a deal. He’ll be her date to the dreaded holiday parties, and in exchange, she’ll help him weed through the dross to find the shimmering treasure he wants to build a life with.

It doesn’t take Bentley very long to realize that Barbara’s the one he wants, but she’s not as quick to believe that she’s good enough for the handsome billionaire Bentley. Can he convince her that she’s everything he needs in time to spruce up the holiday season? Or will her miserable year come to just as tragic a close?

Fake dating romance with a more serious side storyline.

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: ☺️😊🙃🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Barbara - she gained weight after her parents died and then she discovered her husband James has been cheating on her. She immediately tells him it is over, and he agrees without any fight at all. She works for a marketing firm that specializes in social media and James works at the same company. The following year, after their divorce, at Christmas, she and her ex oversee holiday parties for clients and they both must attend, and it turns out the woman James was cheating on her with who is in charge of another department within the same company also must attend.

The Hero: Bentley - he is the best friend of Dave, the husband of Seiran, Barbara’s best friend. The two have known each other for more than a dozen years, but never really liked each other. He travels a lot for his job, but he recently hired someone to do the traveling for him. Now he only travels for really important meetings.

The story: Barbara thinks that since Bentley is handsome, rich and successful, he would be a perfect plus one to all the holiday parties she has to attend. He could be her shield. Bentley, on the other hand, wants to settle down and when his friend Dave sets him up with an eHarmony account, he is surprised to see that he is matched with Barbara. He asks her to help him with his profile and to help him pick women to date, in exchange he promises to attend the parties with Barbara.

I hate the big deal about Barbara’s weight. I found myself hoping that she would easily lose the weight after she started dating again. Especially after she overheard her husband mocking her weight to his new girlfriend. Though I was happy to see that Bentley didn’t even seem to see her added weight. He wanted her just as she was. One of the reasons I dislike curvy girl romances is they often get way too preachy about accepting yourself as you are. This one is a great example of that. Though the story did take a turn I wasn’t expecting, and I really enjoyed it.

This audiobook was narrated in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Jennifer Jill Araya and Paul Bellantoni. Both of these narrators are new to me. Neither are my favorites. Jennifer has a bit of an annoying voice, not too bad though. I tend to like a softer more feminine voice. Paul has a nice deep voice, but both he and Jennifer sound a bit like they are overacting, though I got used to it after a while and ended up liking the narration.

It was a nice surprise to get not one new Scarsdale Fosters book at the end of this year, but two! Minted was a surprise book that the author hadn't originally planned to write, but it ended up being a really good addition to the series. I think I even liked this one better than the previous book, Nouveau Riche. I could sympathize with Barbara and the situation she was in, and all the feelings she had that went with it. I really wanted to give her ex-husband and some of her coworkers a piece of my mind! I enjoyed reading how the love story between Bentley and Barbara unfolded, and I loved that Bentley was happy with Barbara just the way she was and didn't want to change her. I'm looking forward to more books in this series.

Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book.

good....but

I hate the foster child trope. I don't know any foster parents whose foster children have adapted easily. Some never adapt. I fear it gives the wrong impression that foster care is easy-peezy. There is no way those girls would've lost their mother and have somebody swoop in and take them home and not have grief and attachment issues.

I was a little disappointed and wary going into this because it features the “aunt” rather than one of Emerson’s siblings. But! I instantly was drawn in and I love it. When her husband cheats on her, our heroine Barbara ends up divorced – but still working at the same place as him along with his new girlfriend. When the holidays come up and they need to attend Christmas parties, she’s going to be the third wheel unless she can find someone to go with her. Enter Bentley. They’ve known each other for over a decade and have been friends. When her best friend’s husband sets up an online dating profile for him and their profiles are matched together, they start fake dating for her work and she helps him vet his dates.

Barbara has a very low self-esteem and I adore how Bentley is determined to get her to see herself like he does. He is absolutely adorable and there are so many great lessons in here for teenagers and women who deal with self-esteem issues. Especially over body image. I cannot wait to start the next book! I love the fostering theme, found family, and more. This is a just kisses romance.

Good book

I have enjoyed all the books by B.E. Baker that I have read so far. I enjoy the foster children stories mixed with the romance. I enjoy this story being about a couple that is a bit older.

This was an amazing story with so many great themes in it.

From the beginning you're emotionally invested in Barbara and her life. You get into her head and heart real quick and I love the healing and growth that happens in this story.

Bentley is all things swoony and I absolutely loved seeing him realize his feelings.

There were some great twists and turns that led to the Happily Ever After and all of them were perfect for Barbara and Bentley.

This is the third book in the series. Best read in order but I read this one out of context and still understood everything and the story was still fantastic.

💋Sweet kisses only

When the time is right, it’s right!
They’ve known each other for 15 years, since they double dated with Seren and Dave, even when the dates were a cross over. They were attracted to each other at the time, but never acted on it. Always friends and always there with every event the foster family had as their unrelated aunt and uncle. Never realizing that there was more than just friendship. Until fate throws them together.
Barbara has a very low opinion of herself and can’t believe that Bentley wants more. When you’re about forty an opinion like that is so much ingrained, that it is extremely difficult to shed.
I enjoyed the story very much, also the twin girls that became Barbara’s foster children. I found it a bit hard to believe that they were able to live by themselves for such a long time and no agency intervened at all. Even more so while the dad was notified when the mother died. It is not an easy subject, writing about foster children and parents, but it is good to realize that not all of their stories are bad. And some children know it is the end of a very bad time and the beginning of better things, being loved one of them.
As usual Ms Baker writes with great compassion and a lot of humor. Good for a lot of laughs and some tears. I loved it.

Minted is a touching holiday story by B. E. Baker. The past year has brought marketing executive Barbara Champion much heartache. After losing both of her parents within just a few months Barbara ate her sorrows and gained quite a bit of weight, then she discovered her husband was cheating with another department head at the company where all three worked. Now, with the holidays approaching and all of the parties the three of them will be required to attend and manage do nothing to improve how Barbara feels.

Attending a birthday party for one of her best friends’ sons, Barbara pours out her heart about how she feels, especially about attending these upcoming events alone while her ex and the woman he cheated with will be there as a couple. With a novel suggestion from friend billionaire businessman Bentley Harrison as he suggests that he be her escort in exchange for helping him with online dating, something he really has no interest in.

As the story unfolds, Barbara’s loving character is fully revealed and her heart is opened to first a pair of twin girls who have lost their mother and then to Bentley, who becomes much more than a friend. This is a lovely story of loss, love, and finding one’s way out of the dark. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

Third in the series, Minted tells the stories of Barbara and Bentley, separate friends of Dave and Seren, and introduces two new foster children. This is the “Uncle Bentley” from Nouveau Riche. The first chapter will hook you and then you will want to read the whole story through. Bentley was a busy world traveler but now middle aged has decided he might want to more seriously look into finding his forever partner and not just a weekend date. Barbara is still feeling the stinging pain from a divorce that followed very shortly after the death of not one, but both parents. (You loathe the ex already, don’t you?). Barbara’s self esteem is in the gutter and she cannot see the diamond she truly is. Everyone else around her can see her sparkle, even when she feels her worst. Bentley never gives up reminding her just what a kind, strong, gorgeous woman she is, and one day she finally believes it.

Bentley and Barbara's Fifteen Year Tryst! 4.7*****/5 Spoiler Alert

Barbara, still reeling from her divorce, her parent's deaths and having to work with her ex-James and his new younger flame during their company's Christmas activities, begged Bentley Harrison her bestie/billionaire buddy to be her fake date in exchange for dating pointers. Seren and Dave created a dating app profile for him and Barbara, being a Social Media influencer traded favors, not realizing that Bentley truly loved her all this time. They ultimately adopted the orphaned twins, Ricki and Nikki, whose mother recently died, got married, and became the family of five, including Lucky the dog. Great characters with Seren and Dave still providing love lessons and advice, while Bentley took care of the twins dead-beat dad both physically and financially. The theme revolved around our hardest critic in life is ourselves. A Must-Read!!

Just loved this story. Reading Minted is a perfect love story. Barbara has had a very bad year and it is effecting her life. She doesn't think it can get any worse, after losing her parents, but it does with a divorce. Now with Christmas parties, that she must attend, plus her ex husband and his girlfriend working at the same place she does, how will she get through them. She needs a plus one, and Bentley is perfect for the job. They trade off with Barbara helping him on a dating service and him being her fake date. Somewhere along the way, it becomes not fake anymore. You will laugh and cry a little, but I know that you will certainly enjoy this book and returning characters from prior books.
I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review.

Everything was too clean, too easy. Already was wary because they knew each other for 15 years but made zero connection in that time. It's just not romantic. It's pathetic. But I guess now they're old and running out of time to find the perfect partner so their eyes are "open to the possibility" of each other. That just sounds desperate, not sweet. Not romantic.

So many other issues I'm not even gonna bother going into. Some people will love how easy, low angst this is. It's clean and no offensive boo-boo words. Just don't expect a great connection and of course who doesn't love the message that money can solve everything.

Book three of The Scarsdale Foster series was a surprise book, one that the author wasn't planning to write, but oh wow, what a good surprise. I just loved the story told in this book.
We get the Barbara and Bentley story on this one, they are the best friends of Seren and and Dave, and we have already being introduced to Bentley since book 1 of the series.
I loved the way that Barbara learns to love herself and accept her body after her husband leaves her and Bentley makes her see and accept herself as a competent and valuable woman.
This is a sweet story that will live in your heart for days to come after finishing reading it.

I love this series and this is Barbara and Bentleys story. It covers heartbreak and loss, friends to lovers and romance and Christmas and is such a wonderful read! Barbara is not a fan of Christmas and has had a really bad year, Bentley though has had a fab year and is ready to find the girl of his dreams to share it all with but is not really a people person! They strike a deal but things do not turn out as they expected…… in a good way. It’s a fabulous read and a wonderful addition to this incredible series.

I fell in love with this story from the start. Such great characters that you feel part of the story. There were laugh out loud moments as well as some times to cry along with the character. I really had a hard time putting this down, as I was anxious to see where the story was going next. I love how it put forth emphasis on the value of a positive self image and self worth. I had read a teaser for this before it was released and couldn't wait to read it...it did not disappoint! I highly recommend!!!

Barbara and Bentley have been friends for years. She's a really kind and helpful person. Everyone likes her, but her husband, ex now, has killed her self-esteem.

While Bentley has realized she's “the one,” she refuses to believe that anyone would want her until she changes herself.

The story plays out really well. I did get tired of Barbara constantly putting herself down, but I love how her friends never failed to rally around her.
It takes her a while to see the truth, and I was happy to see the HEA coming her way.

Another great story by Baker

Baker finds a great balance between humor and seriousness. We root for the downtrodden and fall for the hero. She has found an excellent way of sharing backstory and using it to launch into the present.
My only complaint is that I am not proficient in pop culture so I need to Google some references to see what she sees. Since I read on my Kindle, it’s not difficult to do, so why complain?

A sweet story

I enjoyed reading this but at times it was just a little too silly. Barbara's horrible year was brought up too much. I know everyone grieves differently but it almost came across as begging for pity. And her helping Bentley find a woman to date started off okay, but it took her too long to realize she was worth loving. Having said all that, I'm glad I read it. It was a sweet story. So I do recommend it.

Barbara and Bentley have been friends for years even though he didn't like her husband. But after her divorce, he agrees to attend work holiday parties as her plus one while she tries to help him choose dates online.

It gets pretty comical at times, but the underlying story of self-esteem plays out as Bentley tries to make Barbara believe in her self-worth.

Her best friends and the cute twin girls add a very special touch to this sweet holiday story. I highly recommend it!

This book about Barbara & Bentley leaves you wanting so much more. From heart ache to love, this book gives you all the feels. We are introduced to a few new characters that we need to know more about (hoping for future books about them), as well as revisiting old characters that we know and love. The Scarsdale Foster series could be 20 books long and still I would want more!

This is a good story! Bentley and Barbara are so cute together. They have known each other for years but have only remained friends. That is until Bentley decides he needs Barbara’s help to find the one. Barbara agrees because she needs a date to some Christmas parties that she will have to attend and her ex husband will be there. What happens when they start falling for each other?

The B's Get their Happily Ever After

Bentley and Barbara both live to help others, but believe they don't deserve the other. It is great to see them both learn to trust in the sincerity of the other. They also rescue a couple of 11 year olds. Don't miss this great story. As always, Baker writes family friendly stories that warm the heart, and increase our faith in humanity.

Barbara is having a bad year, she lost her parents and got a divorce. Bentley is a great guy, he is ready to start a family but doesn't know where to look for Ms. Perfect. Barbara offers to help Bentley and well, I guess we all know how that ends. This series has been very entertaining and I love the characters.
