The story deals basically with class differences among people

Jane, as has been established, comes from a rather rich family. Her home time holds a Barrett's Day party and keeps talking about it. Andy and Toby are invited, of course, but they have major questions about their reception among the rich.

The B-story is about a new woman that takes Allison's place. The woman is named Pembroke and she runs Canby Hall like a prison, handing out demerits as fast as she can to as many students as she can.
The three girls go to the party and, as expected, Andy and Toby have major problems from the word go. Yet there still seems a chance for them to bridge the gap and get a dead party moving.

Pembroke has her own back story and it's interesting. There might be a chance there for some form of compromise.

Divided into two parts, neither of which are very interesting. First, we have personality-free Jane and her parents' lame party. This one was especially painful as Jane's character is... well, to call it paper-thin would be a compliment. She's rich! And a slob! She's a rich slob! Oh, and girlfriend takes overreacting to new levels. She gets in a snit and flounces off at the flimsiest of provocations. No talking things over for Jane! Joy.

Part the second is just boring. Strict new housemother Meredith rubs everyone the wrong way. Until she doesn't.

Not sure if I disliked this one so much because of the focus on Jane or the girls in general are just starting to annoy me.
