Put a French mademoiselle on a plane to Scotland for her friend’s wedding, Get a Highlander to play the bagpipes at the ceremony, And let Christmas do the rest. That said, the demoiselle isn’t overly eager to celebrate Christmas. All she wants is a quiet time in the Highlands. But her friend has other ideas… Oh la la! Joyeux Noël!
I am writing this review on a miserable day in March so it’s as far from Christmas as you can get. This however brightens my day. Last Christmas Celine had a bad breakup after she caught her fiancé cheating on her. A year on she is weary of love, has put a wall up and she hates Christmas. However this festive season she has been dragged from France to the remote Scottish highlands to participate in her best friend’s wedding. There she meets the ruggedly handsome farmer, Angus and as soon as their eyes meet over his rendition on the old bagpipes, sparks start to fly. Looking after her friend’s house while she’s away on her honeymoon, Celine and Angus get to know each other and over the Christmas period, Celine’s heart thaws, Angus brings her wall down and she learns what love truly is. But then Christmas is over and Celine is due to go home. Will Celine and Angus’s new found love survive the miles? This is a charming little romance that will leave you with a warm feeling inside. The writing flowed and kept me invested throughout too.
Celine’s Highland Christmas contained everything I expected in a romantic Christmas story; endearing characters, witty dialogue, and the perfect setting: the picturesque Scottish Highlands.
Celine had endured an emotional year, her break-up with her ex-Remy had all but exhausted her. She’d suffered his lies for long enough and was glad to get away to attend her friend’s wedding in Callander, Scotland.
The story, although not predictable in its plot, you somehow felt confident in the direction it flowed in, with author Jos Saunders gently weaving you through the story. For me, this is what made it such a joyful relaxing and at the same time, emotional story. The perfect heart-warming, happy Christmas and New Year tale that you can’t fail to enjoy.
I loved the hunky, sexy, Scotsman, Angus, with his authentic accent and gentle manner, made me root for him and Celine. A warm fuzzy, enchanting story that will remain a firm favourite of mine. A thoroughly enjoyable, well-written book with beautiful descriptions of the snowy Scottish landscape, which actually made me feel cold. I was sorry when the book ended. I hope there is a follow up book.
What a wonderful little romance. I thoroughly enjoyed Celine's adventure with the delightful Highlander, Angus. A lighthearted, quick, clean read, loaded with great friends, fun adventures and the butterflies that come with a budding new romance. I loved that ending too!
Predictable cosy romance, needed a bit more content - 3.5 stars Celine's Highland Christmas is a wholesome and light-hearted romance just right for when you want an undemanding, feel-good read. The opening chapter brings the two protagonists together in a creative way and although the eventual outcome is predictable, I could feel the chemistry between them and wanted them to get together. Set in a small Scottish town around the Christmas period, there's a wedding, snow, cosy Christmas activities and likeable characters – although I did find the older folk a little stereotyped. With open fires, lots of hot chocolate and cosy dinners, there's a definite 'hygge' feel to this story, and even though there's not much to the plot the writing is engaging and it's a fairly quick read. The romantic scenes are wholesome and there's no adult language or content. I did feel it would have benefited from a bit more in the way of difficulties before the couple got together, so that the middle part of the plot would have had more to it. To me, it felt a little like the story peaked too soon and then there were a number of dialogue-heavy scenes to keep us going until the climax and resolution. However, the quirky ending did not disappoint and will certainly please romance fans. This book is worth your time if you feel in the mood for a sweet holiday romance.
Celine used to love Christmas, but the grinning angel on top had reminded her of Remy, her ex, last December when she caught her then-fiance cheating with one of her friends. Celine takes her drunken anger out on the tall snow-covered Christmas tree in the town square of Callander, a Scottish village. She falls and makes a snow angel in the snow. A stranger, Angus, helps a wobbly Celine up. Her best friend Fiona comes along and helps her get home and she tries to sleep through her hangover after celebrating Fiona’s hen party which just happened to be on the anniversary of her being cheated on. She’d agreed to be Fiona’s maid of honour at her wedding and planned to stay in Scotland for a month before returning to France. And the best man happens to be the groom’s cousin, Angus. Can she make a fresh start this new year? Will this heart-throbbing highlander win her heart?
An enjoyable read with the festive Christmas atmosphere and the sights, sounds, and smells of a wonderous holiday season and a cute cat named Yoda. A heartwarming Christmas romance!
If you are looking for something light-hearted and undemanding, then this story fits the bill. Despite the plot being rather predictable and some of the characters cliched, it held my attention to the end. I enjoyed the author’s scene setting: the cosy village nestled in the Scottish Highlands, the tight-knit community who all look out for each-other and the joyful lead up to Christmas. I rooted for a happy ending for the author’s protagonist, Celine, and without giving away any spoilers, I certainly got it. However, I probably would have enjoyed the novel more if there were more twists to the plot. Instead boy meets girl, a lot of hot chocolate is drunk and the outcome is fairly obvious quite soon without any real pitfalls or resistance. If it is purely romance you are looking for though, this simple, sweet and wholesome tale has all the ingredients for an engaging and entertaining read.
Celine’s Highland Christmas is a classic Christmas romance. By that I mean: Think “Hallmark Movie.” If you know what a “cozy mystery” is like, then you will understand why I call it a “Cozy Romance.” It is pretty clean. There are a few swear words and some implied sex. Set in Scottland during the Christmas season, it is the story of a fast-blossoming romance between a French girl and a burly Scottish highlander. It flows smoothly with very little conflict. Only when the ex fiancé shows up unannounced is there any tension and that is brief. There are no real surprises and it is quite predictable. The two main characters are fairly well developed. The Scottish dialect is sometimes difficult to read. Fans of cozy romance will enjoy this story and root for Celine and Angus as their relationship develops. It’s a quick easy read. Save it for a snowy night with some hot chocolate.
Celine's Highland Christmas had all the elements of a cozy holiday love story. I decided to read it in August, but it still put me in the holiday spirit! The warm drinks by the fire in a small town in Scotland, the falling snow, the twinkling lights—all painted a lovely backdrop for an intriguing budding romance. My favorite part of this book, aside from the relationship between the two main characters, was the scene setting.
The characters in this story were relatable, but still unique, and I enjoyed getting to know Angus. The storyline was sweet and kept me hooked. I enjoyed the slow but steamy burn between the main characters, especially when they were getting to know each other, which felt the most intimate. The supporting characters were also interesting, and though all of them were not necessarily huge drivers of the plot, they helped to tell a more holistic story.
I don't usually read romance stories, but I'm glad I read this one. Celine, a young French woman nursing a broken heart, is in Scotland to be the Maid of Honour at her best friend Fiona's wedding. It's a Christmas wedding, but Celine is not a fan of Christmas. A year ago, Celine's fiancé cheated on her. Having drunk too much and made a fool of herself at the Hen Do in front of Angus, a burly Highlander, Celine is mortified to find he is the Best Man. At the wedding, something happens, and Celine is caught off-guard. She doesn't want or need a new relationship but things never go to plan, do they? This was a romance with all the 'feels'. I loved Celine and her little French outbursts. And who could resist a man who cooks, knows the right end of a duster and looks like he could tip a Highland cow (coo)? Highly recommended.
I’ve been watching cute Christmas themed romances on TV, as is my tradition during this season, so Jos Saunders’ “Celine Highland Christmas” fitted in perfectly.
It has all the satisfying ingredients in a romance novel that I look for at this time of year: a festive background (this one has the bonus of a wonderful Scottish location and all the cultural touches of the area); an unexpected “meet cute” with likeable characters; and a clean romantic, humorous plot line to keep me engaged and smiling throughout this light and clean romance novel. Recommended for romance fans looking to be amused and delighted.
I adored Pomegranate Tears and treated myself to the author's Celine's Highland Christmas. I'm so glad I did! It's the perfect festive read for anyone seeking delicious escapism served with a side of haggis and light repartee in French and Scottish accents. Delightful characters, humorous plotlines, and the seamless integration of festive elements capture the season's snow-laden magic in this cozy tale. Having been disappointed in love, Celine, a Frenchwoman attending a friend's wedding, is determined to avoid romance until she meets Scottish Highlander Angus. Yes, he wears a kilt. And if you want to know what's worn underneath, you'll have to get the book for yourself! Ooh la la!
A cozy feel-good Christmas romance novel. With a bruised heart, Celine sets off to the Highlands of Scotland for her friend's wedding and to spend Christmas. Not looking for love she soon learns the heart wants what the heart wants. Celine’s Highland Christmas definitely has all the feels for the Christmas holidays. A strapping Scots man, humour, and a romantic story that has to be read. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and read it over two nights. Great characters that were easy to connect with. Highly recommended!
Celine’s hatred of Christmas almost gets the best of her all due to heartbreak but a chance encounter with a Scottish stranger may change that for the better. The story of Celine and Angus starts off with a drunken meeting but turns into a beautiful tale of love. Reading this book felt like I was watching a Christmas Hallmark movie and of course who doesn’t love a classic story of love and mending heartbreak?
I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful Christmas story. Celine travels from France to a small quaint town in Scotland for her friends wedding, with no intention of meeting anyone romantically. But then she did not figure on Angus! The humour was on point and well executed throughout. This lovely written story had great likeable characters. Highly recommend. Perfect for the festive season.
This story is such a sweet romance that you can’t help falling in love with it. A perfect book to curl up with when you need to take a break from wrapping those Christmas presents and would go well with a hot chocolate loaded with marshmallows or a wee dram of your favourite tipple. The characters are fun and engaging and the setting brings back many a happy memory. Loved it.
This is a beautifully written, lovely, heartwarming story. Understanding how love should be, not toxic in any way. It flows and is penned with expertise. Well worth the 5🌟and for a clean and easy read I would thoroughly recommend it. The love and caring simply jumps from the page.
Still recovering from a broken heart, the last thing Celine is looking for is romance when she visits Scotland to attend her friend’s wedding. However, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to a strapping Scotsman called Angus, and, try as she might, it is difficult to ignore the attraction that she feels for him. A thoroughly enjoyable and easy-to-read romance.
Celine is a wonderful character who is totally relatable! The romance is sweeet and the overall vibe of this book is Hallmark Holiday Movie material (Hallmark, are you seeing this?? Because this is your next hit movie, for real!)
Do yourself a favor, pour a mug of hot cocoa, put a fire in the fireplace, and curl up with this feelgood, cozy romance!
Celine's Highland Christmas was a delightful book with wonderful humour and likeable characters (except for Celine's ex!). I expected more tension, but overall, I enjoyed the novel. I loved the well-described scenes, where I could hear the bagpipes playing or see the snowy layer covering the landscape. It felt like I was there with Celine, taking in all of the beauty.
Not looking for love, or wanting anything to remind her of her last Christmas, Celine goes to Scotland for her friend's wedding. She gets drunk at her friend's hen party and impersonates a cow, which is the start of a beautiful romance with the lovely Angus.
This book was very nice and shared a beautiful adventure of love. Though its a Christmas story, it can be read anytime. The characters were fun and easy to follow, they drew me in. Definitely a beautiful story and worth the read.
I enjoyed this beautiful love story, and was unable to put it down untill Id finished it. I loved the two main characters, and had high hopes for them. I wasn't disappointed. Very well written, and highly recommended!
I thoroughly enjoyed Celine's Highland Christmas... who doesn't love Scotland at Christmas, especially with a hunky Highlander in the mix? I especially liked the ending, so very satisfying. A recommended read for romantics.
This is the perfect book to read over Christmas. It's set in the beautiful town of Callendar - the gateway to the Scottish highlands. It's got men in kilts, snow and a Christmas theme. It's got some heartbreak, and a promise by Celine that she wasn't going to get involved with anyone after having her heart broken last Christmas. Enter a handsome Highlander in a kilt and her promise to herself is cast aside like yesterday's mince pies. What more could you ask for? A 'leg o' haggis' maybe? This should be the next Christmas movie. It's that good.
