Didn't mind the vibes while reading this, but it was a confusing tangle of tropes. Also it didn't feel like I got what was on the tin, not really a sports romance and while he was technically her boss, he wasn't  the suit and tie boss I was expecting.

DNF at 25%. Just some sloppy plotting and characters with motivations that seemed "because the plot says so." Couldn't do it, guys. As it turns out, my next one was also by this author and I think she just isn't for me.

Pucking My Off-Limits Billionaire Boss… hit the middle of the road for me. I didn’t love it and I didn’t dislike it.

I think too many troupes were forced into the story. Second chance, best friend’s brother, billionaire. It didn’t all click for me. The problems Andrew created for their project would have been a nonissue for a billionaire if we are being honest here. There was also a time or two when the duel POVs didn’t line up with who it was supposed to be.

Also, I wish the conflict between Lucy and Andrew had more of a back story, rather than just a scene of him telling her to move in and marry him. It just fell a little flat for me.

Lucy’s righteous indignation grated on me
I just can’t stand how stubborn she was. Not willing to change.

That being said, the connect between Jake and Lucy was palpable. Their second chance at love was heartfelt and Carter stole the show being so cute.

Cute, but I felt there was a bit of a disconnect between the blurb and what was delivered.

Lucy and Jake have danced around each other for a while only to hook up after his sister’s wedding. Now four years later, they’re both back in their hometown to start over. But while Lucy plans to restart her coffee shop, Jake has already purchased the whole block and has other ideas.

Only to have Jake’s sister, who’s also best friends with Lucy, find a loophole. And they make it work so both parties are happy. But just as construction begins, Lucy’s ex shows up and starts causing problems.

Jake and Lucy get their happy endings in this standalone book in a series.

Their connection was super sweet! I have a few questions on how the timeline worked out with how the adorable kids came into play. And it was a huge issue for the dads joking about marrying their kids; especially because they’re cousins but also, who does that? I also feel Andrew was just thrown in near the end as an afterthought. They could have had other issues related to the design of it was just there for problems.

This book is part of a series, but a standalone.
I have mixed feelings regarding this book. I liked the storyline and the characters and the writing style in most parts.
But there are multiple issues, so I couldn't really enjoy this romance.
It's in need of editing (typos, confusing changes of POV within the chapters, repetitive phrases, new characters in the second epilogue).
It's advertised as a sports romance, but it's not.
Legal problems are solved with a handshake and without clear solutions. Even as someone without any knowledge of the American law I can detect some other legal nonsense.
Someone is shown a copy of a contract and just keeps it?
A toddler is playing unguarded in a construction site.

I'm sorry for ranting, but I could have really liked this book, if it wasn't half finished.

2.5☆ I liked the idea of the story. The plot wasn't exactly as advertised in the blurb, seeing as how they did eventually pretend to date, but they didn't fake an engagement, and they were already working together before they did so. The story was sports adjacent but not really a sports romance trope, but close enough, I guess. I had a hard time connecting with the mfc for at least the first half of the story. The prologue chapter she was charming, then she became this whiny irrational child with her head in the clouds that expected her way. The tax issues in the beginning were never questioned or looked into by her. When she went to talk to the then boyfriend who supposedly was great with business and numbers and helped look over her books, she never questioned him about the situation, which was baffling. And although I understood her anger at him for his entitled attitude and non support, she had already made moves to do some of what he not so eloquently suggested she do, although for different reasons. But why act so aghast at the suggestion you already moved forward on? I got the breakup, but the plot was worded like she was broken-hearted and gave a portrayal of a different scenario. Fast forward, she decides to get back her old cafe in her old town. She left both, the Cafe has been sold 2x over, so definitely not "her cafe." But she wants it back. Unfortunately, her ONS from years ago beat her to it. so she throws this tantrum like he stole something from her. The situation sucks for sure. that's life and business. 1st come 1st serve. Find another location or talk to him and figure something out. Where was this indignant anger when your place went under and was sold the 1st time. Now it's been years, and it's empty, and things went downhill where she was, and she decided to go back and start over. Ok, but it's been sold already. How is it his fault you want your abandoned toy back? He tries to talk to her about it, she refuses and eventually finds some crazy loophole to get her way. I was kind of annoyed with the best friend who was actually the mmc sister. I get there for your friend, but at least give her a dose of hard truth, and honestly, before you undercut your own brother. Who, in all honesty he was very nice and accommodating to her the majority of the book, and she from the start was childish, irrational, and combative. I just couldn't see her appeal. It wasn't a billionaire grump romance. She was the grump, and he let her get away with way too much. The crazy ex situation was a take it or leave it situation for me. That subplot was a bit meh. It added an element of drama that was the buzzing gnat syndrome. It was, however, maybe the catalyst that made her finally stop being as crazy and difficult towards the mmc. I don't regret the read, but I don't feel a need to reread it.

Great contemporary small town with hockey romance read - - 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lucy moved away to make a run at making her coffee shop a big thing in Seattle and luck does not seem to be on her side. After 4 years and a crazy ex that basically wants to control her, Lucy cuts her losses and heads back to her hometown. She figures she will buy back her original coffee shop and start over but make it bigger/better. Only when she goes to buy it, she finds out her best friend’s brother, Jake, that she had a one night stand with 4 years earlier beat her to the punch and bought the whole block with hopes of revitalizing the community. Jake made all his money playing hockey but he has come home with his son Carter to start a new chapter in his life and spend more time with the little guy. Jake has always had a thing for Lucy even when they were in school together when they were younger but neither ever acted on it. Making an agreement or partnership to work together on this new property/expansion all is going well until Lucy’s ex tries to come back into the picture and sabotage everything that Jake and Lucy are working towards. When Jake sees how uncomfortable Lucy is around Andrew and some of the things that he says to her, his protector side comes out and proclaims that he and Lucy are dating in hopes that Andrew backs off.
The fake dating of convenience becomes a struggle to keep their emotions and hormones in check as they both go into this as an “arrangement” but soon realize what they have in front of each other is worth fighting for. This book ticked all the boxes for me as I laughed at the banter between Jake and Lucy, was heartbroken when Lucy had to move home to start over and angry about Andrew. Totally rooted for Jake and Lucy and their blooming romance. This was a great book and they characters are ones that you fall in love with and cheer on to see that HEA.

SPOILER... but only a small one.

Really enjoyed reading but some lack of continuity in the story threw me off. In one chapter Jake and Max are talking about their respective children. Max, who is married to Jake’s sister. They are discussing the closeness of their children (who are cousins) and say, “we might as well start planning their wedding now”. Again, these children are cousins. I went back in the book to confirm, and later in the book they are referred to again as cousins and no more ideas come up for a cousin arranged marriage.

There are other instances where the chapter is from one person’s perspective but switches and then switches back, or wrong names are used or their eye color changes or there are 2 paragraphs saying almost the same thing like both with written with the intention of deleting one but never deleting it, or her being overwhelmed with the intensity of her O, somehow forgetting the O happened, and immediately being back on the cusp (and not for the second time, but somehow traveling back in time).

Overall entertaining series so far but some of these glaring (to me) inconsistencies or mistakes take away from having as enjoyable of a reading experience as I think I would if maybe 1 more person read through the story before publishing.

Was at a solid 3.5 but rounded down because again they are trying to arrange their children’s marriage… to their cousin. I am sure this was unintentional (or at least I hope it was) not like this is some historical romance where maybe that type of arrangement would be slightly more understandable (if not still super cringe), but still for a minute had me consider DNF because I wasn't sure I liked where was this going.

Pucking My Off-Limits Billionaire Boss by Livvy Stone

⭐⭐/2.5 stars round up to three
no spice

This book hit the middle of the road for me. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it.

First of all, I would like to mention that this book is not a sports or boss romance. Yes, Jake was in Hockey but not anymore and at no point is he her Billionaire Boss-- more like partner/co-owner.

Second of all, The problems Andrew created for their project would not have been an issue for a billionaire if we are being honest here. A pain in the ass but not an issue.

And third of all, I wish the conflict between Lucy and Andrew had more of a back story, rather than just a scene of him telling her to move in and marry him. It just fell a little flat for me. Like it was out in left field and thrown in for kicks and the same for Jake story about Alyssa. Also, Lucy’s not willing to change or really work with Jake grated on my nerves. I just can’t stand how stubborn she was. That being said, the connection between Jake and Lucy was palpable. Their second chance at love was heartfelt and Carter stole the show being so cute. I have mixed feelings regarding this book. I liked the storyline (yes it needs work) and the characters but there are also multiple issues, so I couldn't really enjoy this romance. It's advertised as a sports romance/boss romance, but it's not. And a toddler is playing unguarded in a construction site-- like really-- would NEVER happen. I think this book could be amazing with a few changes.

Lucy and Jake have known each other for a long time. Jake's sister Hailey is Lucy's BFF. These two know what buttons to push, they're comfortable with teasing, and they like to compete against each other for everything. I wanted more banter tbh. One night they have a one night stand but life takes them in opposite directions from each other. Jake left her a silly note.

Four years later, finds Lucy with her coffee shop going under in Seattle. Her life is falling apart. Her ex is awful. Jake now has a 3yr old son named Carter. His child's mother has passed. And they both return home to Cedarwood to start again. Lucy wants her first coffee shop, to rebuild her dream, her life again. Jake has plans to build his former bar of business, he basically wants the entire block, which includes Lucy's shop. You know what's going to happen right? More buttons to push. They will have to reach a compromise that works for the both of them. Right? Right. For me, sometimes the back and forth of how and what to build got overly done. Bring more of the sizzle connection back. Talk about that one night stand sooner rather than later. Just some thoughts. It's a fast read. I wanted a little bit more romance. Not just the physical side. Happy reading! Enjoy.🏒💕🏒

☕Thank you for an early book via Booksprout. This is my honest opinion on the story I read.☕

First of all, I would like to mention that this book is not a sports romance. The sport was taken out of it almost immediately and it was just a small town romance, which really not my preferred reading. My opinion might be clouded because of that.

I didn’t really feel this book. With the prologue it wasn’t made clear that it was a prologue and it wasn’t fleshed out. I did like the main characters in the ‘prologue’, but those characters completely changed when the ‘real’ story begins. I also felt like every microtrope you could imagine was thrown in the book and I felt no chemistry whatsoever between the fmc and mmc. And then there are the ‘business’ things. This was all really unbelievable. Lucy had problems with tax organizations and those suddenly disappeared? Then a clause in a contract that no self-respecting business person would sign. I found the fmc naïve and whiney. I liked her in the first chapter, but it just went downhill. From the point of finding the clause in the contract I kept skipping large parts.

Would have liked a real sports romance as advertised in the title.

Her best friend’s brother beat her to buying back Mocha Memoirs by a day!….Four years ago Lucy left town to try make her dream of coffee shop ownership a reality, but now she’s fled her crazy ex who wants to control her. Jake has had a lucrative Hockey career and now he’s settling back home with his young son . He always crushed on Lucy even back in high school and when an opportunity presents itself he’s all in …Jake didn’t just purchase her old coffee shop , he bought the whole block , planning to rejuvenate the area, he and Lucy agree to work together. When her ex Andrew turns up causing trouble for them, Jake steps up and protects telling the jerk he’s her boyfriend. Go Jake!! Those two are so swoon worthy while trying to distance . But when there’s chemistry there’s chemistry and there ain’t no faking that! Brilliant stuff, an uber immersive , page-turner story. Livvy’s writing style works for me.

Loosely connected to hockey so don’t expect that to be the focus of this book. It was a really well written story about facing success and failures and moving forward. Lucy and Jake had one night years ago and then both moved on to fulfill their dreams. Jake did play in the NHL but retired when his wife died, leaving him with a small child. He chose to move back to his hometown of Cedarwood with a plan to invest in the community and hopefully make it a place for visitors to enjoy. The dream for Lucy was to expand her coffee house concept but after selling the one in Cedarwood and opening one in Seattle, she realized that it wasn’t meant to be. What she did hope to do was reopen the Cedarwood location only to find that Jake had purchased the property. I loved the interaction between Lucy and Jake’s son and how they compromised on things. We need more of that in our world today! Just enjoyed each page and chapter.

This book was definitely a page turner as it took me 2.5 hours to read. The story involves a down on her luck heroine (Lucy) her best friend and best friends brother. Past and present collide, a look, an unspoken attraction to the one man that was left behind.
Reading this emotional journey, I felt as if I were standing in her shoes. Life throws out second chances and new beginnings. A true genuine partnership emerges, engulfing them both, a untied front is descriptive in so many ways.
The author has done an amazing job with this story giving the reader an in depth look at each character, life altering circumstances and solutions.
This book is for anyone who wants the feels of what could be .
A true treasure that's got all the goods.

The MFC comes off as a whiny, entitled brat, always throwing tantrums when she doesn't get her way. MMC comes off as too nice always giving in to her. It is not a sports romance. It also needs a lot more editing, who was watching Carter at the construction site and no one just gives someone else their copy of a contract and then lets them keep it. I liked the prologue but the story part kind of bored and disappointed me. I wish the FMC could have stayed as she was at the beginning. Also the MMC left her because he did not want commitment and also felt she deserved better, then turned right around soon after and entered a relationship with another woman who he got pregnant. The timing stunk. I was sorely disappointed in this read.

3.5* Jake and Lucy have a one night stand the night before they are both about to start new endeavours in different cities. Lucy in Seattle to open a second location of her coffee shop and Jake in the NHL. 4 years later with Lucy moving back to her hometown, her coffee shop going under and hoping to start over. Jake also moves back to his home town this time with a son and hoping to build a sports bar tavern that is different than anything his hometown has ever seen. Jake and Lucy get a second chance at love and building their dreams. This is a short story and quick read with a HEA. I did feel it was a bit too descriptive and a bit repetitive. I still enjoyed the story. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a good second chance romance with a tad bit of hockey and a lot of tension between the characters that ignites the pages.

Jake and Lucy have a chemistry that could burn down a city, but agree a night and then see what the fate have in store for them as they were both about to leave town.

Years later Jake and Lucy find themselves back in their small town looking to pick up their lives - Jake with big plans, and Lucy to reopen her coffee shop. When their dream collide, they have to figure a way to work together while fighting her past.

Unexpected story that has the perfect amount of danger and suspense mixed with heat and passion that pulls you in.

A sweet and romantic story in the style of Hallmark movies with an inevitable happy ending. Both Jack and Lucy are positive characters, cheerful and ambitious. Jack is a jovial man who attracts people around him with his very appearance, while Lucy struggles through life with light sarcasm, protecting herself from the failure she fears. The dialogues are very witty and bold and draw you into the action itself, and just describing it makes you imagine the real picture and imagine yourself with them. A lot of humor, fun, romance and a little drama make this book interesting and it's definitely something I would recommend to romantic souls who like to be pampered and angry at the same time while enjoying a light read.

I definitely enjoyed this one a lot! Jake and Lucy really had all my attention. Some of their banter and the way they were with each other gave me little butterflies because I felt it. I felt the chemistry and that is something I love finding in a book. I love being there with them. Livvy does a great job at this. These two had a great comeback even if it was a bit rocky. I could not put this one down. I read it in less than 20 hours! Pick this one up! The entire series has been great so far. Can’t wait to read the next one. :).

Jake and Lucy romance was one for the books due the physical attraction between was tension. And the chemistry between was like spicy peppers it was hot. Will they be together forever or will they go there separate ways. Will this romance grow into something magical and exciting with a spark of love and affection.

I highly recommend this book and it worthy waiting for to read right now during hockey season in the moment with action packed of drama. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Trina Jones

This is the second book in this series, and this is Jake and Lucy’s story.
After 4-years of being away Lucy returns to her hometown, and her best friends brother Jake, steps up the plate to help her with her psycho ex, and they become fake engaged. Jake is determined to keep Lucy safe and protected from her ex, and she starts to work for him in return.
This is a fast paced story, with enemies / lovers, friendships, trust, emotions, second chances, and love, which leads to an entertaining and steamy addictive page turner.

I love a second chance romance it is one of my favorite tropes. I could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting. I really enjoyed watching Jake and Lucys relationship evolve through the book. Lucy and Jake grew up together but it was never the right time for a relationship and they went their separate ways. Neither of them was expecting when they saw each other again that it would fighting for the same business location. After some push and pull they finally did get their HEA and I enjoyed reading it as it happened. This was a first time ready for me for this author and I will definitely read more.

Let's just start by saying that I am usually not a fan of second-chance romance, but this was very sweet. The fake dating morphing into real is always a big pull for me, though.
Jake and Lucy always had a connection. It was put aside while growing up. Then, with one night together after his sister's wedding, they finally break it open, only to put it on hold for 4 years. When Lucy had to move back home and a controlling ex showed up, the fake dating commences, which of course brings out the real feelings.
The banter is cute, and I was rooting for them every step of the way! It's not super sports related, but I was ok with it. It was a quick, easy read that was enjoyable.

I was fully immersed from the beginning. This book has a little bit of everything to satisfy whatever need you may be feeling at the moment. Are you looking for best friend’s brother, hockey, workplace romance, second chance at love, supportive hero, fake relationship, single dad, or loser ex, then this book has a little bit of all of it. Jake and Lucy’s story was a page turner that I loved more and more as it progressed. Jake’s love for his son Carter made me fall harder for him too.

Jake and Lucy’s story was amazing. I loved how the author (Livvy) brought them to life, their flirtatious encounters and totally understanding each other was always what they needed. Their relationship came with its own twists and turns but in the end love finds a way and it accepts you fully as you are. Their partnership professionally and then personally shows how important it is to understand and be there for each other every step of the way. This book was a page turner and had me wanting more at the end, you won’t regret grabbing a copy for yourself or as a gift. Enjoy reading.

Coffee Desires

Jake and Lucy had a great time together one time and their lives go in different directions. However, this story is their second chance when they both happen to return back to their hometown. There are obstacles that create tension between the two before they can no longer resist the attraction, they are both feeling, especially after her ex shows up. This was a fun read, despite the lack of hockey (he is a former player who is more of businessman now).

Second chance to make things right. At her best friends wedding, Lucy finally acts on her attraction to Jake. A little too late she is leaving for Seattle to expand her coffee establishment and Jake is heading to LA to live his hockey dreams. Four years later after a devastating failure, Lucy returns to Cedarwood to rebuild Mocha Memoirs. Only to find out it was already sold, to Jake. Love the conflict. Love the rebuild of friendship and dreams.

I love a good hockey story. This was a great quick read. The passion between the main characters was chart topping. the main character has a dream and decided to not let anything get in the way, not her controlling ex and not her long time crush best friend's brother. Sparks fly the first they see each other after 4 years of living in different cities. When a project brings them together, will their stubborness get in the way or will they see how great and unstoppable they are together.

Sweet contemporary romance featuring two high school friends who return to their home town years later. Growth, emotions, life experiences and disappointments play a part in their story. Add in a possessive ex who wants to play spoiler leads to some laugh out loud moments along with a precocious three year old. This is Lucy and Jake's story.
