Striking a wonderful balance between character and action, the ending cliffhanger is second only to Williamson's ability to capture the heart of what makes a well-written Superman so special.
Now, this was more like it. It starts off with an emotional page or two of Lois reading well wishing letters to a healing Superman, and it sets a good tone for what sets this hero apart from others. It's also nice to see how much concern she has for him. Also it's neat to see the city rebuilding. Lena gets a new job that I'm curious to see what her father thinks of. Graft, or is it Pharm? I'm still not sure which one is which for some reason predictably gets his ass handed to him by Superman in a REALLY cool new suit, but not before he zaps the Man of Steel and Marilyn Moonlight into somewhere that really makes me want to read the next issue. Pretty happy with this one, overall.
The beginning was so good. Lous reading the letters? The paneling, the art, the page layout. Impeccable. There's a nice mix between actin and story. I have to admit I'm getting a bit tired of our main villains. I liked moonlight though. Also not a big fan of cliffhangers. The sidestory made me think Superman had been send to the past, the division is not clear at all. I think it must be intentional, since the page layout is so well done everywhere else, but I can't imagine why, it's just confusing.
Great first half. Lois reading letters of how Clark helped people while he's fighting for his life was great. But the western stuff? Meh. I assume the next issue won't be for me either.
