Snowed in with Summer

Rate this book
Take one ex-girlfriend, a wilderness adventure, and only one cabin. What could possibly go wrong in this fun second-chance lesbian romance?

Avery is finally going on the winter excursion to the Yukon she’s been planning all year. Dog sledding, ice fishing, the Northern Lights… It’s going to be amazing! Then her boyfriend dumps her the night before the trip. Worse, she gets paired up with the only other solo traveler in the group: Summer, her ex-girlfriend from high school.

Unlike Avery, who has a plan for everything, Summer lives a nomadic life—free, spontaneous, with no time for relationships. There would be no point in rekindling what they had—not when the last time ended so badly.

Stuck in a tiny yurt together and forced to partner up for activities, Avery and Summer must find a way to get along. But what if, amidst all that ice and snow, they also discover a flame that was never extinguished

Avery has looked forward to the trip of her lifetime ever since high school. A wilderness adventure to the Yukon to experience the Northern Lights during the equinox. Nine years later the Yukon provides the Lights with a surprise from her past.

This is a second chance romance that contains some of the Yukon’s specialties, dog sledding, ice fishing and cute Husky pups. The story also includes moments of intense dialogue between Avery and Summer as they dissect their past, present and futures.

Snowed in with Summer is an enjoyable light read set in the cold but beautiful vastness of the Yukon.

3.5 ⭐️
This is a fun second chance romance to read wrapped up on the sofa, or even better, sitting in front of a warm fire. It's set in the Yukon Territory in the run-up to Christmas, in freezing temperatures but with lots of frolicking huskies, powdery snow, and a comfy yurt. The MCs are Avery, who was dumped by her boyfriend the night before their trip together, and her college girlfriend Summer. As teenagers, they both dreamed of seeing the northern lights on the Yukon once in their lives.

Avery doesn't let it get her down and sets off on the trip anyway, only to be hit on the head again. Because as luck would have it, or was it Cupid? Here, of all places, she meets Summer again after seven years. And all the pent-up anger and disappointment that Summer left her unexpectedly come to the surface again and threaten to spoil their vacation. Or is it a chance to finally put things behind them? Or is it even a possibility for a new beginning?

The POV is Avery's, which lets us know a lot about her as a person, which is good, but on the other hand, Summer is a little bit left out. Besides all the fun, beautiful surroundings, attraction, and romance, the story is about staying true to yourself and not changing yourself for a partner. Compromise, yes, but don't change. This is exactly what Avery learns the hard way. Only to immediately fall back into old patterns. Sometimes it takes a lot of soul searching and work to finally be yourself again.

Summer also has a lot to deal with and has to overcome her fears to finally stop running away.

Make yourself comfortable and enjoy the entertaining story, with all the ups and downs of Avery and Summer.

This book was difficult to rate, overall it was ok. I think Warner should have developed her characters more, especially Summer.

Avery's thoughts were on what to do about Summer and wondering constantly if she would leave her again. This was one dimensional for, me, she seemed to be a shallow character. Summer was totally consumed with her fears of becoming her parents and was always hiding and running away. These two thoughts form each character were constantly being dwelt upon, it was too repetitive.

Also there was never any insight into Avery's choice of having both a male and a female partner. I would have liked to have read about her thought process on this.

The HOA was too quick for me after all the turmoil both characters felt. I would have liked much more angst from both characters.

I did like the background setting and this would be a fun trip to take to the Yukon. Warner did a good job with the location and activities.

A charmingly awkward little romance. Avery (poor girl) was dumped right before she leaves on her once in a lifetime trip to see the Northern Lights. As if that isn’t traumatic enough, she finds she is forced to bunk with her ex girlfriend Summer. What follows is a story full of laughs as the two women try to just get through this trip.
A quick and funny read!

3.5. Avery gets dumped right before a trip to the Yukon and ends up on a trip with her ex girlfriend Summer. Summer dumped Avery when they were 18 to travel the world free of commitment. If you like forced proximity and a second chance romance, this book is for you. Even though the story and side character were exciting, I feel as if all was forgiven WAY too easily. I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

These girls spent 7 years apart, and they haven’t grown up one bit. They had the same argument than the one that led to their breakup; it’s like they learned nothing.
And the way Avery actually considered getting back with her ex ??? This is what lost me.

Sweet second chance romance that is just as cute as the cover looks. Avery Graham goes on a winter travel experience in the Yukon Territory. She was supposed to go with her boyfriend of two years but he breaks up with her just before the trip. The location is remote and the guest number is few. Avery is stunned to see Summer Joshi. They grew up together and were each other's first loves. They only split up when finishing college. Summer wanted to travel the world and Avery was starting a new job and putting down roots.

I love the location and activities. Staying in a yurt, looking for northern lights, riding a dog-sled, and going ice-fishing. Avery and Summer are able to talk about their pasts. Everything is from Avery’s POV so you get to know and understand her more. She has to self search and see how she changes for the people that she is involved with . You get the gist of Summer’s insecurities but I felt there was more I was missing. Everything happens for the most part in a short week. That works with second chance romances as the characters are already very family with each other. I thought this was entertaining and enjoyable. Thank you to Ylva Publishing for the ARC and I am leaving an honest review.

On the eve of a winter solstice Yukon vacation that she has been planning forever, Avery was dumped by her (ex)boyfriend and is forced to go alone. She figures that she can still make the best of it, until she realizes that not only is her ex-girlfriend Summer also on this trip, but they get paired up together as the only single travelers. This forced proximity brings up a lot of unresolved feelings for them both, but also the accompanying issues and hurts. They realize that nothing has changed, but also everything has.

Snowed in with Summer was an excellent novel that perfectly accomplished everything that it was trying to be. This novel had me spanning the whole range of emotions, empathizing with and cheering for all of the characters, and reflecting on some of life’s big questions and my own choices. This novel was a lot more than I expected, in the best way. It was sweet, spicy, sad, and heartfelt all in turn. The writing was top notch. Taking place in a remote part of the Yukon with a small cast, this novel was essentially a bottle episode yet at no point in time was it anywhere near boring or simple. I would recommend this novel to any romance reader, with gusto!

As always, possible spoilers below:

The Highlights for Me:
-This novel is a perfect case study in the proper execution of the enemies-to-lovers trope, as I want to see it (and second chance as well I suppose)! Their past history and baggage, what caused the conflict, is solid and significant. The set-up is perfect, completely believable, and justifiable. The journey, as they work to resolve their issues, is sufficiently long and in depth that the eventual payoff is EARNED. Lots of novels throw in the enemies-to-lovers trope as a side dish and it falls flat but that was not the case here; the trope was essentially the entire novel and no aspect of it was phoned in. By pure coincidence, I just read four enemies-to-lovers novels in a row and this one served to highlight the weaknesses in all of the others and driving home how well this novel was done.
-The relationship (the central point of the novel) was very well done as well. I cared about the characters and felt like I had stakes in if their relationship was going to work out or not. This novel demonstrated relationships excellently as there was a near-excessive (in a good way) amounts of communication as they worked through their feelings and history and needs. The relationship wasn’t simply driven by plot elements or circumstances but rather by the characters themselves, and it was great to see.
-This novel was an excellent analysis/investigation of how people can take different paths in their lives, and each has their own advantages and disadvantages. In this case it was the “travel the world for adventure” vs the “put down roots and establish a stable life” dichotomy. I liked this as it is something that a lot of people struggle with, particularly young people, and are often left with a feeling of missing out on what-ifs. This novel showed very well how neither choice is better or worse as each has its own benefits and drawbacks. The best solution may be a balanced life where you can’t have it all but you can have a bit of everything.

---- > “Every seized opportunity comes with a cost”

Nitpicks:
-My only real nitpick is, as it often is, that I wish there was more at the end of this novel. The ending was perfectly satisfying, and I understand why it ended where/how it did, but I would have still liked to see more of what happened after the point where it ended. After following the characters journey, I like seeing more of the destination. The ending section could have been a bit longer as well; it wasn’t rushed but it also didn’t take as much time as it could have.

An ice cold, second chance romance with a gorgeous backdrop. Get adventurous and dive in!

I received an advance copy from Netgalley for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Avery is ready for an arctic adventure with her boyfriend Nolan. A week of sledding with huskies, watching the Northern Lights and snowmobiling through the gorgeous nature of Yukon. Right before they are ready to leave, he dumps her. So, there she is, alone, heartbroken and miserable. Avery decides to travel alone, hoping that the trip will bring some clarity. When she meets the tour group outside the airport, things only get worse. Part of their tiny four people group is Summer. Her first love and the one that broke her heart into a million pieces when she left Avery to go travel the world. And of course because they are both there alone, they have to take on all the activities together as well as sharing a cozy yurt.

The relationship between Avery and Summer is absolutely freezing in the beginning. It is fun to watch them each thaw out while the trip continues and they find out that both of them have learned a lot in the past ten years. Avery discovers she changed herself to make her relationship with Nolan work, ignoring her inherent adventurous needs. Summer may have traveled the world, but meeting Avery again stirs up some long repressed feelings.

The descriptive imagery of the beautiful surroundings of Yukon makes you grab another blanket to stave off the freezing temperatures described, even though you might be reading within the warmth of your own home. And even the smell of the enormous pack of dogs that live at the resort is almost too real. The dialogue between Avery and Summer and between the other guests is quick witted and fun.

I loved the way Avery and Summer reconnect without losing themselves in the process. Their relationship is a good model for a pairing that only builds the other person up without making compromises. And the spicy scenes, are indeed, very spicy! I liked that the two women remembered the good times they’ve had in the past, and not only the struggles.

Put on a warm hoodie and dive into this arctic love story that will leave you all warm and fuzzy inside!

would like to thank netgalley for letting me read this amusing book

your worst nightmare would be being dumped right before your week away and then realising your ex girlfriend is on the same holiday and worse yet you are expected to share a yurt with her....

can anything else go wrong.... yep you guess it your feelings are gonna get in the way

that is exactly what happened to avery when she started her trip to yukon to see the northern lights... summer is there, doing the very holiday that avery had planned for them both years ago when they were together

can this holiday get any worse.... yes it can... but in a good way

have to admit to being pulled into this story line just for the snow adventures and mooses...what a holiday ... i wanna see the northern lights now and go and play in the snow...

highly entertaining storyline that deals with heartache and friendships but with the added bonus of snow

This might be a strange time of year to read a book set during Christmas, but honestly I feel like there's no wrong time for a wintery comfort read. And this proved to be super comforting!

I've read from this author before, but it was YA fantasy (The Valkyrie's Daughter and its sequel). I loved those books, so I was hoping her adult romance would be great as well, and it was! I thought this was really well written. It was cosy but with a good amount of emotional depth and character development, and a good balance between the romance and a focus on growing back to who you truly are. I also just have a soft spot for second chance romance, it tends to work so well for me.

But who truly stole the show were the sled dogs!

Perfectly fine winter/holiday romance.
This is a bit of a second chance romance and while that trope is one of my favourites it’s rarely executed well. And this is no different. I mostly stuck in there for the setting. The Yukon at winter solstice? Sign me up!

Even though I don't like second chance romances too much, I really loved Tiana Warner's new book.
I especially enjoyed the Yukon setting and the activity descriptions, it really made me want to travel there and experience it all myself...

Snowed in with Summer is a heartwarming, second chance sapphic romance that was difficult put down! After being dumped by her boyfriend of two years the day before they are supposed to go on an adventurous group trip to the Yukon Territory, Avery decides to take a leap of faith and embark on the journey by herself. The only problem is, Summer, an ex-girlfriend who broke Avery's heart seven years ago, is also on the trip. Does Avery have the worst luck or is it fate that she and Summer are forced to reunite on a trip that, many years ago, they dreamed of taking together? This book has so many heartwarming scenes and I loved the atmosphere. Fun adventures in freezing temperatures? Check. Huskies galore? Check. Second chance romance? Check. Forced proximity? Check. Lovable characters? Absolutely!

While I loved Avery and Summer (although sometimes I found Summer's reasoning for some of her actions/decisions to be a bit frustrating), I also really loved the supporting characters throughout the book. As a second chance romance, I appreciated how well the author is able to seamlessly weave in stories from the characters’ past to really give the reader a deeper understanding of their history. I recommend this quick read to anyone looking for a story about personal growth, facing and overcoming fears, and finding happiness individually as well as with those you love.

Thank you Ylva Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an electronic arc of Snowed in with Summer for my honest review.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I picked this up because I adore a polar/arctic vibes book, give me snow and stark landscapes with the northern lights and I’m there.

This book is about Avery who dreamed of going to Yukon for the Winter Solstice since she was with her ex -girlfriend Summer in high school.

Fast forward to the present day and Avery has just made the flight to go on the dream trip… but she is alone. Her boyfriend, Nolan, suddenly dumps her just before the trip and now she has to fly and socialise with strangers with a broken heart.

But when she arrives at the lodge, she discovers that her high school sweetheart is also there, and they happen to pair singles up in a yurt…

This story has a forced proximity, second chance romance, with some spice. I really enjoyed the setting and the huskies! I enjoyed how the book was about self discovery and growth. I loved how you could really tell how torn the characters were and how Summer was so troubled and struggling to vulnerable, it made the characters more real because they had faults.

I would have given the book a higher rating if the book was more developed and longer. I wanted more characterisation and description, wanted more of the polar landscape. I would have loved some more moments getting to know the other characters too.

Also *spoiler incoming*

I felt that the main character really did need longer to be single than the book allowed. The ending was cute but I wish it wasn’t so soon, I felt it was too quick and I don’t feel like all the problems would have been solved like that. Also we didn’t need the Nolan love triangle, I felt like he couldn’t have been left out as the reader didn’t really have enough to care that he was even there.

I love a good second chance romance. Snowed in with Summer is a great quick read with a wintertime trope. After Avery has been dumped by her ex boyfriend right as they were leaving for a trip of a lifetime, she decides to pack up and make the journey on her own. She expected a joyful experience by working on herself. But to her surprise, the trip is (what she thinks) ruined by the first love of her life, Summer. They both planned the same trip unbeknownst to each other and try to make the best of it. The question is will Avery get the answers she’s been longing from their horrible breakup? Will she find herself on this trip and focus on her wellbeing?

The details are carefully thought out in this book. The location (Yukon) and every activity really made me feel like I was there with them. It provides insight into Avery’s mind along with realizing she should stay true to herself and what she wants out of life but also getting that true emotion from her partner. There are a lot of ups and downs, and I was quite emotional through the entire book, but otherwise so sweet. I’d like to see a POV from summer, along with a follow up on a few other supporting characters In the future!

Thank you, NetGalley and Ylva Publishing for allowing me the opportunity to read this beauty of an ARC.

Snowed In With Summer is an Adult Romance. It’s about Avery, who is all set to leave for an adventure packed vacation to Yukon when her boyfriend of two years abruptly breaks up with her. She decides to still go on the trip alone and is shocked and upset to discover the other solo traveler joining her tour group is none other than her high school girlfriend, Summer.

Avery and Summer dated for three years before Summer left Avery to live a nomadic lifestyle, traveling all over the world for extended periods of time. I was so ready for the tension and angst, especially when Summer and Avery found out they had to share the same yurt. But I’ll say I was surprised that this story is heavier emotionally than I anticipated.

While there is tension and open door intimacy, Avery was weighed down by her pain when it came to grieving two relationships and dealing with rejection. There was the constant fear Summer would leave her again if they were to extend their romance past the trip. That all aside, I really liked them as a couple. I could feel how much they loved each other.

Overall, this is a fun winter read that had so many great things: dog sledding, a million husky cuddles, ice fishing, snowmobile riding, seeing the northern lights, and hot springs to name a few. Although my native Floridian self will gladly only read about these things and never personally experience them because holy hell I could never survive negative twenty-five temps. I won’t even try 😅

Thanks Netgalley for providing the arc of this book. Started this one after work and ended up reading it in one sitting. The setting is quite easy, which draws you immediately into the story. I wish I were on that trip to Yukon as well, it sounds truly wonderful. The second chance romance is really well executed and even if it was fairly predictable, I didn't feel like I was reading some cringe queer romcom. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a book with bi-representation, that is easy to read or the perfect winter holiday read as the writing is so fluent.

loved this

I’ve read quite a few books recently that make me want to pack a bag and head out into the unknown, this is another one to add to that list.
I wasn’t sure about Summer in the beginning, she came across as selfish and a bit of a loner. But as the story progresses you get to understand why she did things the way she did. Throughout the book you realise these two are meant to be together and the frustration of them fighting it made me turn the pages faster.
A very good book with some amazing characters and a beautiful setting.

I am not a particularly adventurous person, but this book made me want to be one! I mean, watching the Northern Lights on a frozen river in the Yukon? That sounds amaaaaaazing.

This was a cute second chance romance with forced proximity, great side characters, and- most importantly- 97 sled dogs! I've never read this author before but I enjoyed this book and will definitely be checking out her other work!

"Snowed in with Summer" is a really enjoyable romance about old flames Avery and Summer reuniting on a winter trip to the Yukon. The dog sledding and snowmobiling provide a fun backdrop to see if sparks will fly again. Strong character development. I appreciated Avery and Summer examining how their values would work in a relationship. Recommended.

A really fun second chance romance adventure!

The last person Avery expected to run into while finally going on her excursion to Yukon is her ex, Summer, especially after her boyfriend has just dumped her. As the two solo travellers, they end up paired together, but getting close again doesn’t seem like a good idea to Avery, especially with Summer being the nomad she is.

Loved this so much! At first I wondered what Avery was going to discover while on her excursion, and I did feel sorry for her given what had happened with her boyfriend, but as soon as it became clear who Summer was and why Avery was on edge about her being there, I was excited for where this might lead. It was instantly obvious that they shared a special connection, and that it was going to be so easy for Avery to fall into old habits because Summer was so upbeat and infectious.

They were on this excursion with such a colourful cast of characters, who all made the experience special and unique. Which was made even more special for us as the reader because Tiana really had described all the activities and the setting in such a way that you could feel part of it and have an immersive experience. As Summer and Avery began to reconnect, I hoped they’d find a way to maybe make things work as they really did bring the best out in each other, and dared one another to dream.

As with all second-chance romances, this wasn’t without its ups and downs, tense moments, and drama, but they were all worth it for the magical experience and connection Avery and Summer have! Hope we’ll get to join them on more adventures in the future.

This was a story I understood well. My ex and I broke up because at the time, we had very different plans for what we wanted to do in terms of travel. I just got really annoyed with these characters for constantly pushing their expectations on each other, and not really communicating.
This did make me realize that I would love to go dog sledding while I'm in Alaska, if I get an opportunity to. Although the setting was fun, these characters were not fun for me.
