*beats reverse harem allegations by killing off one of her love interests whenever a third enters the picture* … FOUR TIMES! Men should run away from her roster like their hair is on fire. Every time she notices the colored flecks in a new guys’ eyes, I was like nOOOO!

I didnt like it. Yes, I understand they had to go to hell to get the final relic but that storyline completely changed the feel of the entire book. This series is about the struggle of beings living in a post-apocalyptic world and I really enjoyed reading as they navigated that world and fought monsters and banded together against, etc. All of the elements that made it this was gone. This was the first time i felt Cassidy just threw things together to finish a book. The rings of hell and the different groups they met there was so random. Most random of all were the sirens. And how is it they went to the place where the monsters who invaded earth were from and never encountered any while in hell??? Also the sex scenes near the end seemed to be just thrown in there to appease the readers and just didn’t feel warranted by the time they took place in the story. And the ending scene with this new mission. I understand the point (as to Lucifer) but what was the point (for the story unless there is a sequel).

🎶 I walked out, I said, I'm setting you free. But the monsters turned out to be just trees 🎶🎶🎶

Shem's (H) sacrifices have set the stage for a final showdown, but there is still one piece of the puzzle missing. With time running out, Rue (h) must find a way to locate the final relic piece before it's too late. The journey ahead is dangerous and unpredictable, with allies turning into enemies and new threats lurking around every corner.

─── ・ 。゚☆: THOUGHTS*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

“The bond…” Kabiel said. “I think this must have something to do with the bond they share.”

“Gabriel? Wake up. You’re okay. I fixed you. You’re okay now.”

I needed to bring him back. “I fixed Gabriel’s body though. So, he can come back. Why isn’t he coming back?”

The lack of development in the reverse harem aspect of the story and the boring plot line left me feeling unsatisfied. The sudden disappearance of one love interest and the introduction of new ones felt forced and not well thought out. The journey to hell seemed unnecessary and dragged on, causing me to lose interest in the story. The character development also fell flat for me. Michael being revealed as the villain felt like a cheap twist and his motivations seemed shallow and unconvincing. I had hoped for more depth and complexity in his character, but was ultimately let down. Despite these disappointments, the writing style was consistent and easy to follow. The action scenes were well done and kept me engaged, but ultimately it was not enough to redeem the lackluster plot and character development.

“Rue is special, and she’ll remain that way, even after we hand over the relic pieces to Lucifer. She’s a channel to the Morningstar power, to Lucifer’s power, and Lucifer is aware of that fact.”

First of all, the execution of the final book in the series was incredibly disappointing. I was hoping for some epic, emotional conclusion to tie up all the loose ends and bring everything together, but instead, it felt rushed and thrown together just to cap off the series. And don't even get me started on the romance aspects of the book. Rue's relationships with Shem, Bastian, and Gabriel felt forced and lacked any real emotional depth. It was like the author was just trying to check off a box by pairing Rue up with all these guys without really delving into the complexities of their connections. And poor Jamie, he was just completely forgotten about. He never really exited as a love interest for Rue, and she never seemed to care for him at all. It was like he was just a placeholder until the other more "suitable" love interests came along.

“You get to that base, and you wait for me. No heroics, Bastian. Yes, the people need you to get them to safety, but promise me you won’t die for someone else’s stupidity. Promise me you’ll be waiting for me when I get back.” I squeezed his nape. “Promise me.”

The whole series has been building up to this epic showdown between the monsters and the humans, and I was expecting a really satisfying and intense battle to take place. But instead, it all seemed to be rushed and crammed into one chapter. I feel like Cassidy could have really developed the tension and suspense leading up to the battle, but instead, it all just happened so quickly and was over before I knew it. I wanted to see more of the characters fighting for their lives, more of the monsters wreaking havoc, and more of the emotional impact of the battle on everyone involved. But instead, it all felt like it was over before it even began.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL *.☽ .*:☆゚. ───
The rushed story and ending left me feeling a bit unfulfilled. The final quest felt like everything wrapped up too quickly. I was hoping for a more satisfying and well-paced conclusion in future installments.

This was SUCH a promising series. I absolutely loved the originality of the post-apocalyptic world, celestials, watchers, monsters, etc. Our MFC was a badass but not an out of this world badass. She wasn’t great at everything and needed help most of the time. I really liked Rue as a character. HOWEVER, this woman should never trust her gut. The amount of times I read that she “didn’t feel anything weird, trusted her gut” was ridiculous. She shouldn’t trust her gut since it got her betrayed not once but TWICE.

Lord.

The love interests. I really enjoyed Shem, and their building up early on in the series. Kind of a slow burn with them. Shem was a gruff, no BS, get it done kind of alpha vibe. Bastien on the other hand gave me boy next door, best friend vibes.
With it being a reverse harem trope it was definitely not “traditional” to the trope/genre.

I liked all of the love interests individually. Not sure I liked how it worked all together. Everyone was just “fine” with sharing? Plus it was hard to tell who was going to become another love interest when it seemed like every male Rue came in contact with was going to be. And then the guys just didn’t have enough character building together to really feel like a full circle reverse harem.

Now. The ending. I’m sorry but WTF. I really feel this ending was dug for. Like the author did not have the ending planned at the beginning of the series. It was kind of tossed together. Definitely felt less post-apocalyptic and more fantasy/greek mythology. Just the overall plot and theme change DRASTICALLY!

I would have been fine if the other dimension “Gehenna” and the additional characters would have been referenced earlier on in the series. It just felt like a different story line to the one we started with.
Also, very anticlimactic how Michael died. Wish it was more of a scene than it was.

Book 1-3 definitely held my attention then 4-5 it was an obvious struggle to figure out how to wrap this series up.

Overall I enjoyed this series but I must admit the end scene with Lucifer has me so confused. I’m glad we got to see what comes of Jamie, Rue’s love from book one, but it’s such a downer to see him moved on when I’ve been waiting all this time for something, well, more. Official harem count for Rue by the end is 3 with 4th still lying in wait. Plus the end has left me with questions and I assumed the authors next series would answer some of that but seems I’m wrong. It’s killing me not knowing what Lucifer’s ultimate goal was and why she kept the child a secret for herself. Seems sketchy do so and send Rue and company on a quest that could take ages. Lucifer was so much more of a main character than I realized and I hate not having all the answers.

I just finished this book, and boy are my emotions all over the place, tied in a knot, and I don’t know what to do with myself! This series ender was just so much, I don’t even know where to begin. And that end really knocked me for a loop. Poor Rue, Gabriel, Bastien, etc., they just went through so much in this last book. I wish I could say exactly what I’m alluding to, but I don’t want to spoil anything. Let’s just say this was a very engaging, non-stop action, roller coaster ride that really can’t be missed. I just loved this, and I know fans of this series are going to feel everything I felt. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The end of another Debbie Cassidy series.

This one is full of nonstop on the go missions. Rue and her gang need to be here to stop this. They need to go here to retrieve this. Let’s go here at this time to achieve this. Go go go. Poor Rue never gets a seconds to just breathe. She’s heartbroken and feels horrible for having feelings for anyone other than Shem. She won’t let herself a moment of happiness.

This one was pretty cool. They travel to a different world… dimension… plane? Twice. I loved that. There was this big twist at the end that I wouldn’t have seen coming if I would’ve read this series sixty times prior to this book. It’s was wild. And the very end? What was that?!! I don’t even know how I feel about it. I’m still thinking about it to be honest. I did think this story wrapped up very nicely! A hard earned hea for almost everyone. I really fell for the Watchers and the devolved Watchers and it makes my heart so happy that they all got what they wanted in the end. Highly recommend this series for anyone into fantasy dystopian type books! It’s plot driven too which is my favorite! Anyone finish this? Let’s talk! Please!

wow, what a ending, I didn't expect that twist...I don't know what to say about it. But I know it's a brilliant twist and ending

This book is the final in a series of 5, and it's filled with so much action, thrills, and emotions and is pretty intense in places! I got lost in the series. For me, it is a page turner.

The ending is bitter sweet and leaves the door open for more, although I would be happy if it ended here, no side stories or new adventures needed. while it's a great series, I can see myself wanting more.

oh, and the smex was good. It turns out it's still average maybe more in smex and smut, although I would still say it's pantie wetting hot!

When Monsters Fight

I have loved Rue and company from the very beginning, and I was so happy that we get more about Gabriel in this one. This story will pull on all of the feelings. The twists and turns this story takes makes it hard to put down.
Never fear, a happy ending is to be found.

Good series but rushed ending….

This series had me locked in until the rather rushed and lackluster ending.

First, after everything these characters went through, the trauma, the grief, the pain, only to get a yada yada, “how many months later” ending where all the closures happen off screen was very disappointing. We don’t get the cathartic release of witnessing justice being served, we’re told. We don’t get to see our characters recover and rebuild their world, that happened while our female protagonist was napping. We don’t even get to see our FP enjoy her new life with her men(except for one briefly) before the rush surprise ending. After everything the ending felt flat and deflated.

Then there was the main plot device that seems to be trust and betrayal, but that cycle when repeated can get old if the characters never learn from past mistakes. Sure it does move the plot forward but by the second iteration it becomes either predictable or frustrating and that was exactly how I felt when the final Shyamalan twist was revealed.

Not sure where the author is going with these characters since it seems this series is finished, but after that ending I’m not sure I have the drive to go another round. Gave it three stars because though the rest of the book was excellent, that ending really kicked it in the teeth.

Ok but can someone explain to me what happened at the end of the epilogue?👀 like it was all nice and well but the last 2 parts where:

1) Lucy sends the gang on a mission
and 2) Lucy's inner monologue

Like...🤷🏻‍♀️ 1) is is not that important on its own, but 2)???👀 First off, because of the monologue it now kinda appeared that lucifer was supposed to get f*cked but now she won... is that good or bad cause she sounded kinda sinister and like she f*cked everyone over and they believed every bit of it🤔
Now because of THAT it kinda seems that she is sending the gang away as an excuse to have less competition and so she can't be dethroned cause Rue and her pseudo harem (I refuse to see it as a proper one🤡) could kick her ass (?)
And lastly the "Adiana situation"... IF the kid is the "allegedly" dead daughter of Jilyana, then
- what was the reason for the lie? (Please don't let it be a "Tangled" retelling because it awfully smelled like one🤨)
- what is she going to to with the kid?
Lucifer lying about Adiana isn't exactly getting her any pluspoints from me and just adds to the fishy smell of her suspicious behaviour🤥🤥🤥

Overall I enjoyed this book, but some things disappointed me.
The action was like always good and keeping me on the edge of my seat. I didn't really like the Gehenna and all that mythological and religious mash-up. Prometheus being called a god, pissed me off, dude was a Titan, not a god. Zeus being referred as a chick was a bit weird, but he could be whatever he wanted to be, so it wasn't that bad ;)
I was a bit pissed at Rue, she trudged through 5 books, was betrayed, was hurt, lost people she cared about and she still behaved sometimes like a naive girl that didn't have the previous hard experiences. I get giving people a chance, but she shouldn't just trust anyone outside her watchers, reapers and few humans that she knew.
The whole series wasn't a classic reverse harem, I griped about it in probably every review and it didn't change in the final book. Rue was with Bastian here, Shem was dead, Gabriel was just a friend and Kabiel was even further from her than that. Justice for Kabiel, he got shafted in this series.
Ending was disappointing, a lot of shit that we should see happening was just told to us after it already happened. We were robbed from the fights that were most impactful for the world of this story. We didn't see how our side won and how the world started healing. It wasn't impactful to just learn about it in a dialogue.
And I was very sad about Jamie.

When Monsters Fight by Debbie Cassidy is an absolute emotional whirlwind and the perfect conclusion to The Monsters Among Us series. From the very first chapter, I was sucked back into Rue’s world—a world where betrayal, heartbreak, and impossible choices collide with sizzling chemistry and non-stop action. Shem’s sacrifice shattered Rue’s heart, but it bought them time… and now, that time is running out. Victory lies in Gehenna, but Rue isn’t walking that path alone.
This final book is an intense, high-stakes rollercoaster that had me holding my breath more times than I can count. Rue, Gabriel, Jilyana, and the devolved watchers face countless dangers as they traverse the brutal circles of Gehenna in search of the last shard. Meanwhile, Bee and Bastian are on their own dangerous mission—finding the last resistance hideout and convincing them to help. Both storylines are packed with tension, unexpected allies, and gut-wrenching decisions that kept me glued to the pages.
Emotionally, this book wrecked me. Rue and her team go through so much in this final stretch, and my heart was in knots the entire time. The pain, the sacrifice, and the heartbreak hit hard—especially in those final chapters. I don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say that the ending was an explosive mix of holy crap and wait, what just happened?! I was left reeling, and that last twist? Mind. Blown.
And let’s not forget the smut! While the steam level stays about the same as the previous books (brief but oh-so-hot), the tension between Rue and Shem is electric. It’s the perfect mix of passion and urgency—because who has time for leisurely smex when literal monsters are breathing down your neck?
This finale ties up so many loose ends while leaving just enough of a crack in the door for future stories in this universe. And honestly? I need more. Cassidy’s world-building is so immersive, and her characters feel like real, flawed, and deeply lovable people that I’m not ready to say goodbye to. I devoured this series, and this last book left me both satisfied and craving more. If you haven’t picked up The Monsters Among Us yet—do it. This ride is 100% worth every sleepless night!

Hmm. I just finished and that’s how I’m feeling.

If you do not want read my long rant below my one word to describe how I’m feeling is disappointed.

It wasn’t terrible and it wasn’t great. This book fell very flat. I loved the other books and this book started off great. When I started the last chapter I was like ‘how the hell will this get wrapped up??’ In a word- it didn’t. Essentially she brushed past everything and tried to sum everything up in a paragraph in the epilogue and then made the rest of the epilogue a sex scene and then some random very short scene at a ball and a really
vague ‘gasp’ moment at the very end.

She used the epilogue to try to close everything in a very poorly done way and the writing felt different and it didn’t fit. It felt like it was written by a Wattpad teenager who was told to write a quick summary to finish the book. It was very out of place and took me out of the story. You know what it is, she used the epilogue to finish the book without really having to write the events and ending, it felt like a cop out.

Very disappointing tbh, you read over 1,200 pages and there is so much build up for none of the satisfaction you get when you finish a series.

*Spoiler* (next sentence only)

Also for Rue to be SO heartbroken over Shem and then you don’t even get to really have the reunion- that’s criminal tbh. The Author tries to shove another person into the RH in the epilogue real quick and then tries to push another right at the very very end, just disappointing tbh. It didn’t feel like a RH done well. When I first started this series I thought she was gonna get with the group of watchers but nah it’s just randoms throughout the story and she doesn’t even really get with the other one (two?) until after the story is technically finished.

I will say it again. I am disappointed by the ending of this series, especially with how much I loved the other books and the beginning of this book.

There's clearly some reading comprehension issues going on in some of the reviews.... Which leads to the constant watered down crap in this genre. If it isn't spoon fed and repeated 10x then it seems like a big chunk of the audience just doesn't get it.

The biggest gripe is about the "abandonment" of Jamie. Y'all. Cassidy very clearly tells the audience he has zero memory of who he was pre-purge. It's confirmed by multiple trustworthy characters that those memories can never return. Bastian leans into this truth when Rue tries to use it as a method to solve him. So, should Rue selfishly "reclaim" him or let him find his new purpose that isn't teathered to the shared pain of constant loss????

Next- she doesn't jump from one man to the next with regard for them. Y'all wind for that one lol. For basically the entire series it's Rue, Shem, and Bastian. She recognizes the connections with others but refuses to pursue our acknowledge it because she fears it's grief clouding her judgment in some way. When her new world is revealed, then she allows herself to be open (heh) to Gabriel. But that's it.

Anyway.... I think there's a good chunk of the journey through the other realm that could have been trimmed down to tighter action sequences with greater urgency in the quest. This would have let some of the final encounter to get flushed out more and perhaps shifting epilogue content into main story for greater details vs constant POV flipping and trying to cram in a HEA-ish ending.

I am SUPER curious about the big revelations and if we will see this crew again.... Especially with Adiana 👀

It was overall one of the stronger entries into this genre and i am definitely going to check out her other series now!

OMG What an ending to this series!

I feel like I have been on a rollercoaster with this series… an emotional rollercoaster! I have absolutely devoured this series from the first book to this one, and I am so excited that it seems that this universe will be expanding a bit with more stories to come.

Rue meets with Lucifer in Gehenna via a dreamscape. Lucifer (a female in this story) tells Rue her story about why God put her in Gehenna and that she needs to find the last shard (which is in one of the circles of Gehenna) and bring them all to her in Gehenna. Rue, Gabe, Jilyana and a few of the devolved watchers head through the portal to find the shard while Bee and Bastien head to the last resistance hideout which Gabe had kept safe. Each group has their own trials and tribulations and issues galore. Rue and team have to go through several different circles and meet some interesting characters who help them along. Bee, Bastien and team have to not only find the resistance but also convince them to help.

There is so much that happens in this story, and I refuse to be the one who gives out the spoilers that would ruin this story for you. But I will say this… the ending was just ABSOLUTELY fantastic and HOLY CRAP at the same time. I friggin LOVED it. I'm not quite sure what to think of the VERY VERY ending though... This should be very interesting!

This series has been such a ride… and I wholeheartedly recommend not only this book but the whole series. You will love it!

I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Isso me causou certa ansiedade.

The ending of a Debbie Cassidy story is always fraught with dueling senses of relief and dread. There's the relief of knowing the ending finally. Having the hard won happy ending. And the dread of knowing this particular series is now over. Rue's story is one that is woven with particular heartache. Cassidy is good at making her characters feel trapped into decisions. Frustration and a burning need to keep reading to find how such situations resolve have long been standard for me when reading her books. But this time it was hopeless in a way that was gut wrenching. Rue is facing down the loss of potentially 3 men she has had intense feelings for. That's not an easy thing to swallow in any book. And the apocalyptical setting of this series doesn't leave much room for last minute rescues or additional characters to pop out and magically solve problems. No, its a fantasy fueled slog through the depraved and twisted intentions of once Godly characters. I was particularly taken with Kabiel and his long-suffering despair with Rue. Wanting what he can't have, and hating himself at the same time. This book (series really) has a lot of movement. New camps, bases, travels, and the city. When Monsters Fight is no different, and I traipsed around the barren, monster filled land with Rue and her men as they sought something to give them hope. Somehow, we still had the HEA that is expected of this genre, but how Cassidy managed to wrap it all up in one book so neatly is a gift.

My first four star review out of the entire series, and honestly it's probably less but I don't want to taint it too much.

This was kind of a rough way to end a series that I was really loving. I was reading, knowing it was the last book, and things were still VERY unwrapped up by the last 20%. It was rushed and jumbled, the plot line may have gotten just a little too spiderwebbed and crazy, and honestly I didn't feel like many of the characters even redeemed themselves?!?!? Also the big non-romantic-relationship related twist (I am too lazy to do a spoiler) was just silly. I mean, I get that it allows the story to continue and gives Rue something to do that just isn't sitting on her butt, but still.

Also, I didn't like that Jamie was just written off with a singular sentence. No, I'm not saying he had to be saved in some dramatic way/his memories shoved back into him, but sheesh. I am glad that Bastian is saved though. He deserves it.

Also also, this was probably the least satisfying Why Choose I've read in a long time, at least from a romance perspective. They are all SO fully separate, no discussions about living happily together, just a begrudging "I guess I'll share" from every single man.

Anyway this was a first from this author for me and I'm interested in reading more of their work, so don't let this one grouchy review turn you off. (Although if you've made it to the fifth book in a series you'll have your own opinions by now anyway.)

When Monsters Fight is the epic conclusion to the Monsters Among Us series, and you’re not going to want to miss out on how it all ends!
When Monsters Fight picks up with Rue asleep, but this is not just any dream that she’s having. Information is being revealed and she’s learning things that she needs to know if she is going to save her world and those she cares about. But the clock is ticking. What lies ahead for Rue and her companions is a tough road and a fight that will not be easily won. However, if they can just persevere to the end...it will all be worth it.
This is the final book in this series...or is it? LOL! You’ll see what we mean when you get to the final chapters. Something is brewing. There is a ton of emotional angst and drama in this book. It pulls you in and keeps you coming back for more. Secrets, lies, manipulation, romance, heartbreak, hope...it’s all here.
The pacing of this story is slow, but the author still keeps you engaged in what is happening and eager to find out what happens next.
When you reach the final chapters you won’t be ready to walk away from this series. There is absolutely the potential for more, and we are here for all of it! Hopefully we’ll be reunited with Rue and her men in a future series, but for now...we’ll just have to wait and see.

This whole series was worth the time.

Solid 5 star review for this final book in the series. The other books ranged primarily in the 4 star rating.

Let's say the ending was pretty epic with plenty of surprises as well as the final few pages. Within truths are lies and within lies are truths, we tell ourselves and others.

This was a long journey, and I would never have thought it to end the way it did, but I'm pleased. I am really hoping that the author will continue this series in a spin-off where the main characters go into their next journey.

Rue was most definitely a kick-a$$ female. There is more than one love interest in her life, but Shem would always be number one for her in my eyes.

Michael was portrayed just as I remember from reading other books and history; the devoted soldier always doing as he's told. Just as Gabriel is the one that challenges and makes the ultimate sacrifices reading into what God wants instead of what God tells them to do.

This mixture of religion in the dystopian world with not just romance but true friendships and love so profound, it has no end and no beginning, was really refreshing to read about. I'm not big on religious reads, but the author did a great job blending the elements together for a great storyline across 5 books.

So When Monsters Fight is the last book of the Monsters Among Us series. As always with one of Debbies series, I think it is my new favorite until the next one comes out. She just has a way of writing that draws me. Her characters, plots, writing styles, you name it, she has it all.

I do not want to give much away. I can say that be prepared to be all over the place emotionally, which you have to anyway with a Debbie read. I have to say I really like this universe and want more, which fingers crossed.

So Rue is dreaming, but it cannot be just any dream, Nope!! But time is running out for Rue and her men. There is a big battle ahead, are they ready? There will be bumps for sure, hills to climb, can they make it?

As always with a Debbie read, there is a sense of I need to read faster to find out what happens next!! I just could not put my kindle down. The plot and pace is spot on, throw in some angst and bam!!! An amazing read.

So prepare you, the ending is freaking amazing!! I was so happy, the vibe I get!! Definitely worth the read. If you are new to the series start with book one of course, and if you have read the series but this last one, you are going to love it!!

When Monsters Fight -

“We’ve got this,” he said as the shimmer washed over us. I hoped so, because we had so much more riding on finding the last piece of the relic now. With two worlds hanging in the balance, failure wasn’t an option.‘

Debbie Cassidy finds a way to keep her readers on their toes, as we fight alongside Rue and those she loves so very deeply. Brave in every way, especially as she learns to fight beside the monsters she initially despised and feared, Cassidy puts Rue’s heart (and ours) to the test.

I think that the reason I keep coming back to read every Debbie Cassidy book is because there is always a challenge to her characters, to make hard choices and accept fates they never asked for. In book five of the Monsters Among Us series, When Monsters Fight, we get some closure to the Dominion and Celestials war on humanity, but the adventure in reading this series was beyond five stars.

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The conclusion of this 5 part series was definitely worth the read. I will admit that as I got started on the book, it took a little while for me to remember some of how the 4th book ended and get myself back up to speed. Once that finally happened, this was a fast read and full of great emotion and action.

I really liked reading the conclusion to the series and I am so glad that Rue and her group saved the world. She finds that she is loved by many and she also has it in her to give love to the men who wish to claim a piece of her heart. As I have said in the previous reviews, this isn’t overly romantic and not very spicy. This really is a great story and adventure with romantic tidbits thrown in. They are trying to save the world here!

There is a really great surprise ending to this book that makes me happy to have been a part of it and in a way witnessed all that these characters went through. I definitely recommend.

Enjoyed the series soo much

The way I devoured this series , the world building, characters were amazing, the plot and storyline amazing

To get an awsome dystopian Rh series is amazing i loved the monsters, angels and humans

The only reason it's wasn't 5 stars for me was the ending.. partly it felt so rushed and kinda gave the feeling of unfinished idk the other part is I hated that I didn't get more up a build up with Gabriel and KABIEL especially I'm dying for Kabeil to join the harem

Like I know the ending left it kinda open for another book spin off possibley but it just feels incomplete now

Also side note jamie moving on hurt a little, like it makes sense but I was holding on hope that he'd regain his memories and come back ya know , I loved him in the first few books, he was so open and accepting

To wrap this up tho, loved this series will definitely try the authors other books after this

ok... i just finished this series.. i'm at a loss..

To be fair, I liked the first 2-3 book, it was strong and captivating. The last two books were just confusing for me. The last book, especially, felt like there were some checklist that the author was trying to go through. Once that's done, boom, epilogue, AND another cliffhanger or is it open-ended? I get the idea that she wants either a spinoff series or a continuation, but cmon.. that was 5 books in total and still no clue about Kabiel? I mean, yes, he is part of the harem, but no confirmation? No "wooing"? There was not much for romance - spicy scenes definitely, but no actual relationship build up, lots of sacrificing though. They were all just drawn to her and poof they love her. I guess it works cause of the dystopian part of it. Overall, I've always like the world building of this author, her endings just falls flat for me.

This has been a massive roller coaster of a ride series with some Epic Cliff-hangers and some absolutely massive shocks along the way including Shem being killed off at the end of the last book.

The author's world-building is truly amazing as is her relationship building and in this book we feel Rue's pain, so many tears were shed reading through everything this author put her through and if you thought her heart was totally destroyed in the last book think again as its decimated further along the way with more heart breaking scenes and betrayal.

I love her relationship with Gabriel and also the dynamics with some of the other main characters, The ending is so unexpected and will have you in tears that said the door has been left open that we may see Rue and her team appear in future series across different worlds and i absoluetely love that!

“When Monsters Fight” was both everything and not enough… This might be the end of the current storyline, but it’s clear there is more to come for these characters and I’m so excited about it already!

For me, “When Monsters Fight” was very plot driven and when I ended up at the final three chapters I was starting to get quite worried about reaching the end. I even decided to go to bed before finishing the book because I wasn’t sure I wanted to reach the end any longer… I’m happy to say my worries were unnecessary, but there were still a few bittersweet moments.

I’m wondering if I have to say anything about the final few pages of this book, but let’s just say I felt the need to throw a virtual bombastic side eye at someone. I’m already looking forward to a new story with Rue and her guys.

Great series!

The end is here and it comes with sadness as Rue and everyone that we've cheered on throughout five books is at an end. This series has been amazing from the first page to that tantalizing last page. I love that the author is already setting things up for a tie-in series. One I can't wait to get my hands on!

Rue has been a great FMC throughout this whole series. She has been through so much and has sacrificed everything for the people she cares about. This last book showcased that even more. She was willing to do whatever she could to save her world, and help another while she was at it. So many secrets were unearthed and there were a ton of surprises too. Everything came together so brilliantly at the end that this series is one of my favorites.

Hopefully readers will see more of Rue in future books. Her story isn't quite finished yet.
