Wed to the Grendel

Rate this book
For my birthday, I get the worst gift a bride. My kind lives in the deepest woods of Alia Terra. The humans call us forest giants, but we call ourselves grendels, after our ancestor. We live in small communities, and we'd be happy to have nothing to do with humans, except we need... their females. My brothers are all married, and now it is my turn. I refuse to do it. Human females are tiny, and fragile, and need too much care... I'd rather end up selfish and alone. My brothers say a bride would change me, but I beg to differ. They leave me alone. Until...She comes out of my birthday cake. A gorgeous little thing, with hair like the sun and eyes like the sea, with a body so delicate that I'm afraid to even breathe in her direction. And I know it's their doing! How did they get my blood to send to the Temple? It doesn't matter. I have a bigger problem now. What do I do with her?!The Temple, a matchmaking service for monsters, shifters, and aliens, is open for service. Also known as: this book gaslighted me at least twice and I'm not having it.

Similar to Ice Giant (the first book in the series), this book follows a human woman who is wed to a grendel – basically a forest giant from what I could gather. But unlike Layla Fae, Cara Wylde clearly does not have the necessary talent to make her contributions to this series shine.

“Teal, the day you turn eighteen, send your blood to the Temple. Promise me, my love.”
“An arranged marriage to a monster,” I said. “Is that what you want for me?”
“I want you to be happy, cherished, and protected. The monsters are here, Teal, in this house, and I’m sorry I must leave you with them.”

For Teal, marriage is the only option to escape her father and brothers, all of whom frequently abuse her verbally, emotionally, and physically. As for Branthor, he's adamant about not getting married, but his brothers, all of whom are happily married to human wives, have other plans. So although he reiterates again and again that he enjoys being a bachelor, his brothers basically force Teal on him. They do this by... wait for it... collecting Teal from the Temple on his behalf, and putting her inside his birthday cake as if she were an object!

Like hello? Where is their respect for her? Where is their respect for HIM? He's said "NO" to marriage so many times and yet they're still shoving it down his throat, with absolutely no regard for his wishes at all. If my family did something like this without my consent, I'd be the first to call them toxic. But no, we're supposed to accept it and laud his brothers for doing this, because they were just being nice and "doing it for his own good". Please the gaslighting is unreal.

Teal comes from an extremely abusive family, and sometimes you just have to do what you need to do to survive. And for her that meant never going back to her old home, to the point where she had to use her body to convince Branthor to keep her as a wife. I get it, and I don't fault her for it. But when Branthor accuses Teal of doing that, she backtracks, saying she never had that intention and she was always willing to go home whenever he wanted. Like come on you're not fooling anyone here... Her inner monologue at that point also sounded exactly like how a manipulative, narcissistic person would react when trying to deflect the blame. The gaslighting was too much for me. The only reason I continued reading was because this occurred around the 80% mark.

The couple faces a number of obstacles, including Branthor's reluctant but growing attraction which he tries to deny, Teal's hesitation and uncertainty about the community and the state of her marriage, and Teal's brothers' dangerous attempt to kidnap her and take her back to her family. I had to skim the book to refresh my memory when writing this review because I forgot literally everything. It was that boring.

I'll admit I was excited when I realised that there was an element of found family in the book where Teal becomes fast friends with the other human wives, who take her in and treat her like one of their own. Found family is one of my favorite tropes when done well. But regrettably, the book was only 130+ pages and there wasn't enough page time to sufficiently develop these relationships. That's one of the biggest pitfalls of this series: many potential ends explored but never tied up satisfyingly.

Also, the smut was getting formulaic and I enjoyed it less than the previous books 💀 All I'll say is that the mechanics were essentially the same as Ice Giant, but it still couldn't make up for the other terrible things about this book.

In fact, I rarely let her do anything on her own. It wasn’t because she needed me, but because I needed her. I wanted to spend every waking moment with her. After six months of being together, I couldn’t understand how I’d lived without her before.

PLOT: Branthor is a Grendel who doesn't want to get married. His brothers have all found marital bliss with human women and they decide to surprise him on his birthday by sending his blood off to the Temple to have him matched with a bride (against his will). Teal is a human girl coming from an extremely abusive home, when her family finds out she's been matched to a monster (she sent in her own blood sample years ago), she's thrown out on her own with nothing but the clothes on her back and sets out to find her husband.

THOUGHTS: I did not like this book. At all. So many themes were handled SO BADLY it was honestly hard to read.

- The way they talk about the children sucks, like your kid just cut someone with a knife, parent him and stop acting like it's normal that he's a hellion. No wonder Branthor does not want kids, yours are left basically feral and unchecked.

THE HERO: Branthor is HAPPY living alone, he likes his freedom, wants to be alone and doesn't want kids. He's very clear about this but no one takes him seriously. Instead of accepting his feelings, his family goes behind is back to get him a wife they know he does not want. We're expected to feel bad and side with them because "they just wanted to help". He was clear about his boundaries and is made to look selfish and dumb ("he doesn't know what he's missing")

- the cake thing: the family PUTS HER IN A CAKE as a surprise for him, like she's an object and they do it this way so he can't refuse / feels pressured. Ugh.

THE HEROINE: Teal is desperate. When she shows up at the temple, she finds out that Branthor does not want her / she's here as a surprise. When she meets him and he's kind but clear about the fact he does not need a wife and will take her back to the temple, she's willing to do anything to stop that. Including trying and succeeding in seducing him. She's reduced to using her body so this man won't send her home. It's not really a choice she makes willingly and one she makes out of necessity. It also hurts Branthor when he finds out she basically used his lack of experience against him.

The whole thing gave me the ick and the smut was not at all worth it.

I hated the FMC. The gaslighting that went on in this was insane. When he accused her of something (that she did in fact do), she acted like he was the ass and her internal monologue was crazy. No accountability on her part for pushing him to do something he wasn’t even sure he wanted.

She went on this mini rant in her mind about how men were like this when it came to women, they were all idiots, and that as a woman it’s her responsibility to be smarter than men. Bro what? Kinda insane take tbh. Like yeah, some men are idiots, but hers really wasn’t.

There were also several typos in this. It was readable, but wasn’t great. Learned my lesson that Layla Fae’s contributions to this series are the only ones worth reading.

11 feet tall? Insane! Certain parts bigger than a ladies forearm? I'm not sure there's enough oil in the world for that. But I'm here for it. He was such a grump that just didn't really know what he needed in life. She was such a sweetie and very much gave him what he needed. I love how quickly his family embraced her and gave her what she really never had. They were just a sweet couple.

This was a lovely sweet read. A cinnamon roll giant with a little 'touch her and die' element. This was a different take on the arranged Temple marriages, in that Branthor knew nothing about it! Set up by his brothers, Teal surprises him on his birthday, and has to use all her feminine wiles to show him that they can make it work between them.

Loving this series. I'm not reading them all, but just the ones that appeal to me. This one had a good back story that made it an intriguing read and the twist at the end wasn't really a surprise.

Wed to the Grendel de Cara Wylde serie Arranged Monster Mates libro 15

Argumento:

Me niego a hacerlo.

No importa.

In terms of the arranged monster series, this one was kind of just ho-hum. There’s some spice, but nothing too elaborate or descriptive. The monster featured in this one is a Grendel, and as far as I can figure, it’s a creature akin to a Bigfoot. Described as being 11” tall and humans having to use ladders to get up onto furniture, these monsters seem to be most likely to split their brides right in half. They’re given the magical vagina oil, but I still don’t think it would be enough. And giving birth to those massive babies? Yikes. I don’t like the way that this monster was set up with his bride. He told his brothers repeatedly that he didn’t want a bride and they went behind his back and sent his blood away so he could be matched. They didn’t listen to him at all and decided that having a bride was something he needed because they were happy with their brides and he was lonely. Even though their story ends with a HEA, it just didn’t sit right with me that they essentially did the whole thing without his consent and definitely ignored what he said he wanted. But I’m glad that the FMC got out of his shitty situation. Her life kinda sucked before she got out. It was ultimately a sweet story, but I couldn’t get over their origins as a couple. And the smut didn’t back things up enough to make up for it. Wouldn’t skip it if I was rereading the series, but it’s pretty far down the list for favorites.

Much better

So whoever this authors editor is they are Great. No continued phrases used, no repeat sceens or situtations. And only two smut moments. Over all the story was sweet. I knew her brothers/family were going to do something to try and get her back. Entertaining short read

The FMC was a bit manipulative. Considering the fact that her family was abusive, I understand she would have done anything to get out of there. But I do wish she had been more honest with the MMC. A little communication does wonders…

Wow. That was so horrible. I forced myself to finish it so that I could rank it.

It wasn’t just that it was cringy and a clumsy plot, that can be forgiven for some good smut (and to be fair, the smut was pretty good). It was the horrible manipulation by everyone involved against our poor MMC.
He could not have been more clear. He doesn’t want a wife. He doesn’t want children. But these horrible people in his life (3 brothers and their human wives) completely disregard this and get him a wife that they “gift” to him in a cake. Publicly. On his birthday.
He then tells the woman she is lovely but he doesn’t want a wife and will need to bring her back to the temple and SHE starts manipulating him too. Including getting him to sleep with her so he will fall in love with her. But the family doesn’t stop there. They give her tips to seduce him and force her to be able to stay. It’s really awful. And on top of that the dialogue is cringy, their is no chemistry, and the plot is both boring and overly dramatic for no reason.

Be smarter than I am and skip this one.

Alien. Size difference (he is 12 foot). Forest giant. Huge peen. Magic oil to make it work. Abused virgin FMC. No OMD/OWD. Stuffing. Stretching. Breeding. No cheating. No breakup. Epilogue 6 months later with pregnancy.

Other than her mother, her family never loved her, and now her groom is missing.

The planet, Alia Terra, once belonged to humans. Then came the Shift. Now the planet belongs to the monsters, and no one even remembers when humans once ruled. There were no written records. Now, no one could even believe it was ever possible, let alone that it was true.

Humans call them monsters or forest giants. The monsters call themselves grendels, after the ancestor who was thought to be the first of their race.

Humans now live in walled cities within the different territories. The poor are barely surviving while living on the fringes.

After the shift, very few female grendels were born. Finding a mate was difficult, if not impossible. Marriage Temples were established. A grendel pays a fee, and young women can be DNA tested and matched with him. The resulting arranged marriage is often the only way for a woman to save herself or perhaps keep her family from starving.

Branthor's three older brothers have decided he needs a wife. He's perfectly fine as he is. Despite what they think, he's not lonely, and he definitely doesn't want or need a wife. Besides, he's seen the difficulties his brothers have with their marriages, so why would he want that?

His family lives in the Mossdale community, high in the forest-filled mountains with a valley where they live and raise their families, crops, and livestock. Although he never plans to marry or have offspring of his own, he does enjoy being around happy families. His brother, Kairos, has the motto, "Friends are good. Family is better."

Teal's father is a Peacemaker as are her older brothers. She keeps house for them. She's expected to wait on them hand and foot when they're home. If she doesn't, tantrums and sometimes fists are thrown her way.

On her deathbed, Teal's mother made Teal promise to send a sample of her blood to the Marriage Temple. She had done so, but it’s been five long years of further abuse from her family with no word about a match.

Peacemakers are brutal. They must be so to do their job, and it carries over into their home lives. She's not allowed any money. She once stole some and tried to run away. She's only allowed out of the house to get groceries. She can't have friends or be around men other than her father and brothers. Her brothers won't allow any men to approach her. Why should they lose their slave to another man?

Usually she collects the mail, but today, with the repair she had to do, she forgot. When her father storms in with the letter from the Marriage Temple, she gets a sick feeling. She never wanted him to see the letter. By law, no one can stop the arranged marriage once the Marriage Temple makes the match. That doesn't mean her father and brothers can't get in goodbye hits and kicks before she leaves. When she leaves, her father calls her vile names and will only allow her to take the clothes on her back.

It's up to Teal to find a way to the Marriage Temple, which is two cities away. When she arrives at the train station, she has neither money nor any idea of how to get any. She has no friends she can ask for a loan from. Since her city, Fortitude, has always been against the Temples, it's unlikely anyone will help her. She gets on board the train and the conductor tells her, if she can't pay, she'll have to get off at the next city. An older woman, who reminds Teal of her mother, pays for her ticket. Her daughter was matched and is very happy.

When she arrives for the marriage ceremony, her groom is missing. Instead, his brother, Kairos, and very pregnant sister-in-law, Holly, are there. The priest is very unhappy with the situation. Kairos and Holly are there to sign the marriage contract that will bind Teal to Branthor. Kairos promises the priest they will deliver Teal to Branthor, that he will sign the contract, and that Kairos will personally make sure the Temple gets a copy of the certificate.

Branthor is about to turn sixty. He knows his family is planning something, but mostly they seem to want him out of the way. Grendels celebrate birthdays, just not the over-the-top way humans do. It also seems to him that the entire valley is in, whatever the plan may be.

On his birthday, the celebration is huge. All of Mossdale must have contributed food. His sister-in-laws baked the largest cake he'd ever seen. Then the cake pops open. Happy birthday, Branthor! And here's your birthday surprise, your very own wife...

This was brilliant and all the characters involved hold a place within my heart as the story unfolds about betrayal, loss, abuse and finally love. Teal is a human female that has had a hard life since her mother died but on her death bed she made Teal promise to take her blood to the Marriage Temple and she did but it’s been 5yrs without any word but she needs to escape before the abuse gets worse by her father and her brothers and when she finally get a letter saying she has been matched but her father received it before she could get to it and he is furious as are her brothers but it’s against to law to stop a match but they give her one last beating before she goes and her father refuses to let her take anything but the clothes on her back as she walks out in the morning to a better life. Branthor is a reluctant Grendel who doesn’t want a human wife because they are week and fragile and so he is happy with his life and he is happy for his brothers but it’s not for him but when they tell him they a having a birthday party for him he believes they are planning something. Teal makes it to the station but has no money for a ticket but she gets on the train nothing they will throw her off but when a kind lady pays for her ticket she wishes her good luck. N ow at the Temple she waits for her mate but his brother Kairos and his very pregnant wife Holly comes to meet her instead but the temple isn’t happy but they allowed it but he must sign the paperwork straight away and send it back. Teal is nervous and excited at the same time and is hidden inside a hug cake ready to pop up and surprise her mate. Branthor knows something is going on because to whole town is there and when he see’s the cake it’s huge and a female comes out of the top and he knows she is his matched mate and a human one but how did they get his blood he wonders. Teal is shocked that she has to beg him to let her stay and now she must fight to prove that she is worth it. How does it all turn out you ask get this book to find out.

This book was an ok read to pass the time, but I don’t think some plot choices were thought through.

This story has 3 main tropes that the story revolves around:

Reluctant bride trope
Pregnancy/children
Abusive family/home life

I’ve never been a big fan of the reluctant bride trope. This story’s ML does not want to get married and does not want to have kids. This is not gone over in much depth, even though it’s the entire plot fuel for the trajectory of this story. The main reason given is he sees his sibling’s kids and sees how much work they are and does not want them for himself.

I had some issues with how the author navigates this. She really pushes the idea that this thought process is just selfish and comes from fear. The author has the ML admit it to himself that he is selfish and feels some guilt about that. It is perfectly fine to not want kids and it is perfectly fine to want kids. It’s a personal choice in the end. The story ends with the FL getting pregnant and both the ML and FL being very happy. I understand people can change their mind, but it really felt like the author was pushing the idea that having kids was the only “correct” choice. But this could just be me🤷‍♀️

The ML’s family sends his blood to the Temple for a DNA match, without him knowing. The FL comes from an incredibly controlling and abusive family. Her only hope of escape and saving herself is being matched through the temple. The story really brushes over this and I don’t feel like it was done well. It really felt like the author only gave the FL this background so that she would do everything she could to try and convince the ML that they should be together, just so that she’s not sent back to the abuse she just escaped from. Personally, I don’t think her actions and mental state were very representative of someone from her background and situation. Then again, I’m not a psychologist so I could be wrong lol.

Spice level was pretty mid/disappointing as well.

This book felt like a sparse first draft that needed plot points addressed before adding in detail.

Branthor is a grendal, the youngest of the bunch of brothers. They keep telling him that he needs to marry and raise a family. He keeps telling them that he is fine the way he is. One mean the baby picks up a knife and accidentally cuts Branthor's arm. One of his brother's keeps the napkin and sends it to the Temple. On his birthday they surprise him with a huge cake and his bride inside it. He is not amused. He tells them he will take her back to the Temple the next day.
Teal sent her blood into the Temple at 18, five years ago. Now she is waiting and in the meantime is a slave to her father and two brothers. They are Peacekeepers in the town but are abusive in their home. Then she gets the letter telling her they have found a mate for her. They are not happy and beat her. Then her father kicks her out without even a change of clothes or money of any kind. She manages to get to the temple only to find that her husband isn't there but his brother and his wife. Then she's popping up in a cake and being helped out by her husband who tells her he will be sending her back the next day.
Will she be able to convince him to keep her? Will her family show up to take her back so as to have their slave once again?
A cute and at points sad story about two different species trying to make themselves mold together into one.

Branthor is one of four brothers who are monsters and of the Grendel species. They are Orion, Kairos and Ragnar. All three of those have used the Temples to find their perfect brides, they are humans. Orion has Maren and they have two hybrid daughters. Ragnar and Nova have a son, Maverick. Kairos and Holly are pregnant with their first child, but Branthor is alone and his family are worried about him. So, they do what they must and send a blood sample of his to the Temple to get him a bride without his knowledge. OMG, I laughed at this for a long while. I knew he was going to give new meaning to the word upset. Lol.

Teal had lost her mother as a teen and took over her mother’s duties- taking care of her father and brothers. However, women weren’t very important otherwise. She wanted to get out of there. At 18, she did what her mother wanted, she sent a blood sample in to the Temple. When she gets the normal letter that she has been selected and her groom found, her family reacts strongly. I was absolutely livid and started quoting the OG story about Grendel and how he “crunch crunched” as that is what I wanted to happen to her family members. They were unspeakable!

Once Teal ends up in Mossdale with Branthor, he wants her, but he doesn’t want her and his family and Teal conspire against him. That part was hilarious. I love how his family interacts with them. A few questions I had about the larger monsters and just the how of it all, lol, was answered. I really enjoyed the book and I loved the ending. I can’t wait to read the next book.

🌿 ARC Review 🌿

Cara Wylde is a new-to-me-Author. I was excited to read Wed to the Grendel part of the Arranged Monster Mates Series. It is a standalone §ëxƴ mọn§tër romance with *very* gïrthƴ proportions. 😏 It reads like an extended slice-of-life story for Teal & Branthor in the community of Mossdale. We learn about Branthor, his older brothers & their wives & children. We learn about Teal's evil abusive brothers & father. Branthor goes thru a lot of internal struggle on not wanting a human bride due to their size & how fragile he thinks they all are - compared to grendels. In a short amount of time, Branthor & Teal go thru a lot together. The sëx between them is aided by magical oil to allow Branthor to *fit* without harm. Yes, please! Teal is very, very lucky. 🥵🔥💋 Will they end up married? You have to read it to find out!

⚠️ TWs at time of ARC reading:
•Ongoing phyiscal violence on page & remembered done to Teal from her evil brothers & father
•Ongoing mental & emotional abuse on page & remembered done to Teal from her evil brothers & father
•Light sexual manipulation done by Teal to Branthor

“Human females are too small. Too fragile. Just look at Teal! I can’t be responsible for that gentle, tiny thing! What if I hurt her?”
As if on cue, they started laughing at the same time.
“Are you serious?” Ragnar said. “You’d rather live and die alone than share your life with a beautiful woman who will bring sunshine into your home? Just because she’s... small?”

I really enjoyed this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Branthor and Teal. I loved that we start with a sweet family gathering with Branthor, his brothers and their mates and children. He didn't want a bride of his own. My good mood was immediately shuttered at the horrible life and abuse Teal lived through with her father and brothers who would beat her. The monster she was matched to didn't know about her, as his family planned for her to be a surprise for this birthday, so there was no Temple ceremony. I think I've read all the books in this series, and this one was the most unique. Branthor couldn't imagine being mated to a tiny delicate female half his size, and Teal was determined to make the union work to escape her abusive family. A really fun read. 4 stars.

IM COMPLETELY OBSESSED!!! I had never read any of Cara Wylde’s books before and I’m SO DISAPPOINTED that I haven’t experienced this book before now!!! Branthor and Teal are just *Chefs kiss*
i LOVE how he stuck to how he really didn’t want to keep her, how he really didn’t want a bride and it was all because he truly didn’t want to accidentally hurt her.
I felt like he was evenly spaced out, like he didn’t rush in fully in only a hour, it didn’t feel rushed unrealistically and I loved that.
I really, really need to see them in a part two with their baby. Teal was honestly such an amazing character. Recently I’ve found that I truly don’t enjoy both main characters in stories, like sometimes they just don’t “mesh” together despite the story line being great. But I ADORED Teal and Branthor both separately(as their own people) and as a couple!
The “high chairs” for the humans was truly so creative. I really, really, REALLY need more of this world. Like Gwen and her husband, do they finally have a baby?
I’d also love so much more about the town! It sounds so beautiful.
I was completely blown away by this story and I really do believe it helped me out of the reading slump I was in.

Branthor (H), a grendel, enjoys his solitary life, resisting his brothers' efforts to find him a wife through the Marriage Temple, which DNA matches monsters with their perfect human mate. Desperate to escape her abusive family, Teal (h) registers with the Marriage Temple, hoping for a better life with a non-human. After five years of waiting for a match, Teal is unexpectedly thrust into grendel society when matched with Branthor and introduced as a surprise during his birthday party. Initially, Branthor is resistant to Teal, caught between his independence and his growing attraction to Teal. Love how Teal starts getting through to Branthor, getting him to appreciate her presence in his life and home. Teal is so hopeful, eager to adapt and find happiness in her new community and new family. Things heat up between the two, until Branthor begins to second guess Teal and her motivations, leading to a dangerous situation. Hot and steamy monster romance with size difference, a little bit of danger/violence, and a loving supportive community/family.

This is the second book of this series I have read so I had some familiarity with the world. There are a variety of authors who contribute to the series.

I don’t go out of my way to read extreme size differences because I find myself distracted with sudden math equations triggered by various descriptions, including furniture, in a story trying to see if it matches the initial description.

The author does a good job of indicating her world's realities and even the characters don't know how it works but it is a fact for them and they trust the matching process.

Since this is my second book, I wasn't sure if it would be a cookie-cutter storyline. It is not. The characters come to the Temple marriage match system under different methods and reasons. This makes me happy. I can read other books in series based on this world without worrying that it is the same story.

The book is a quick read but you get a sense of the characters and the area of the world it takes place. They are enjoyable with a serving of spice and humor.

MFC Branthor is one sweet and stubborn Grendel which is why his brothers and their wives have decided to give him one big surprise on his birthday.
Through the Alia Terra marriage temple they have found a DNA match for him, a wife whom he isn’t looking for!
MFC Teal sent her DNA to the temple after turning eighteen and now five years later she receives a letter declaring she has been matched. That letter arrives just in time to get her out of the abusive household shared with her father and brothers who treat her like a servant.
This was a sweet story that followed the merging of these two likable souls, one grumpy, determined not to have a wife, and one determined to change his mind.
I loved the main characters and Branthor’s family who only wanted the best for him even if he couldn’t see it staring him right in the face, Teal.
Wed to the Grendel was written well and was another great story in the monster mates series.
HEA of course!.

For one, this poor guy can't catch a break. The idea that he would eventually settle and it wasn't good for him to CLEARLY and KINDLY articulate he didn't want to be married or have children is ridiculous.

So basically his hand is forced because of the DNA match and he of course falls in love because of the match and has to settle and have children. That he didn't want.

It's weird. The sex is your basic "he's giant so look how he is so big and makes me look even smaller and you can see his d*CK through my stomach" kink with nothing else and it only happens maybe twice? With the oil to so any way that it's impossible can be explained.

So 🤷. I didn't like the side characters specifically for how they manipulated him. And it was written like we were supposed to know more about the other characters so maybe there is a series seperate to this about them? I dunno.

The writing is fine and it's a basic and easy romance storyline. I just can't get passed that they forced this guy to have a family because they can't imagine he is actually choosing a different path.

Branthor's brothers have found their mates and have kids and whilst Branthor loves his family he sees how much it has taken over his brother's lives and he is determined not to ever look for his mate as he has convinced himself that he likes his life just the way it is. Teal's life is horrid, after her mother passes her father and brothers turn her into little more than a servant, one that they have no problem being violent with. She secretly sends her blood to the Temple in order to find a mate and escape the horror that is her life. Unknown to him Branthor's brothers have sent off his sample and the two end up matched. Can Branthor accept that finding his other half would enrich his life so much that being alone won't even be a consideration for him. Will Teal finally find a life that will be everything that she dreamed of? I loved the characters and the story was entertaining and heartwarming.

This book was about Branthor, a Grendel, and Teal, a human female, and their complicated journey to their HEA. When his brothers and their human wives go behind his back and send his blood into the Temple to be matched with his true mate. Teal had sent her blood sample into the Temple when her mother died because her mother knew her father would take advantage of her and abuse her. Years later, Teal receives a letter from the Temple that she has been matched and her father and 2 brothers throw her out with only the clothes on her back. When she is taken back to Branthor's home by his brother & his wife, Branthor has no idea what is going on and decides to take Teal back to the Temple. Until he spends time with her and gets to know her. This book was a great addition to the Arranged Monster Mates series.

Teal is a strong woman even though she's small, under fed, and abused by her father and brothers. She had courage to leave her home to marry a Grendel without ever seeing him.
Branthor is stubborn, grumpy, protective and a cinnamon roll. He never wanted a mate, especially a human one because he was afraid he hurt her. His brothers and human wives and hybrid children that he adored. When Teal came into his life, he still wasn't sure he wanted a wife. But as they got to know each other, Branthor changed his mind.
Grumpy-sunshine, cinnamon roll, fated mates, drama, abuse, dysfunctional family (hers), wonderful family (his) and a HEA. This is a good story that will have you teetering on crying to jumping for joy with Branthor and Teals happily-ever-after.
