Spoedcursus kerstgevoel

Rate this book

The 14 Days of Christmas by Louise Bay is holiday read involving fake dating and a grumpy CEO and happy cheery heroine. This is Adult contemporary romance with dual POV. Very cliché. I felt that this was a bit to predictable. As a reader, it was clear that Sebastian and Celia would end up together. Is possible to be too sweet, too syrupy, too Christmasy and too Cheesy?

Quotes:
“I might not like Christmas, but I didn’t like to see anyone hopeless either.”

“Every time she was near, the air seemed warmer, the stars seemed to shine a little brighter, and I stopped hating Christmas quite so much.”

“I wouldn’t let my anger control me like it had done him. But I still have it in me. I’ve just learnt to use it to make me better. That’s the point, Celia. Don’t pretend it's not there—because it’s in all of us. Just direct it. Harness it. Use it.”

Louise Bay heats up winter with 14 Days of Christmas.

Business mogul Sebastian Shaw has good reason to dislike Christmas and avoid it all together by spending it in Barbados. But this year, his grandmother desperately needs him to help out with the Snowsly’s Christmas market in England’s Christmas capital.

Upon arrival, he’s introduced to Celia Sommers, a Christmas enthusiast who is determined to make the market a success while rubbing off her cheerful spirit on him. A seemingly impossible feat. But after spending time together problem solving issues like hacked websites, their banter and attraction is impossible to ignore.

Sebastian’s Grinch like attitude transformation towards Christmas was delightful to watch, especially because it was fueled by his devotion towards his grandmother, and his desire to see the town succeed while putting a smile on Celia.

Louise Bay has penned a delightful holiday escape, complete with mistletoe, thoughtful and envy-inducing Secret Santa presents, hot cocoa, and lovely Christmas village landscapes.

14 Days of Christmas is a standalone contemporary romance by author Louise Bay. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending. Subgenres: small town romance| holiday romance | billionaire romance | forced proximity | grumpy-sunny

The 14 Days Of Christmas is a cute and predictable story that will cheer you up in these dark days.

Sebastian hates Christmas but when his grandmother asks him to help with the Christmas committee he leaves London, postpones his vacation and he goes to Snowsly. Celia loves Christmas and this year she wants it to be perfect. They start to work together to give to Snowsly the best holiday market and little by little, overcoming the hurdles and the possibility of sabotage, they become really close. So the fourteen days leading to Christmas fly by, with a lot of laughs and kisses. Will their story end at Christmas Eve for real?

Celia is a beautiful woman inside and outside. Sebastian even if he defines himself as a Grinch he has an heart of gold. Their relationship blooms slowly, because they are not looking for love but fate, with a little of human help, has another plan.
It was such a pleasure to visit this little village and to meet these lively characters.

Louise Bay is one of my favourite author, her writing is engaging, hot and delightful.

If you like Hallmark festive movie this is the book for you.

This book is for you if… you like it generic, speedy quick and a little bit too wholesome.

Additionally.
Why do I keep reading clichéd Christmas reads hoping they would get me into the Christmas mood? WHY? If anything, they slowly but surely deter me from Christmas (as much further as an atheist could be away from Christmas in its actual sense anyways)?

I realise and acknowledge that tons of people out there simply luuuurveee generic Christmas romances and that's fine. It's just really not for me, especially if the ending is so wholesome it cannot help but point at the next wholesome ending coming to one in the book after. So. yeah. Nah.

What’s happening.
‘I hate Christmas’ (Or something along those liines)

spoiler alert : Christmas magic will work its ways nonetheless.

The 14 Days of Christmas
Written by: Louise Bay

What a great way to start your Christmas reading! Author Louise Bay’s The 14 Days of Christmas gives you all the holiday feelings.

Sebastian Fox, CEO of a company he’s built, he can solve any problem, what he chooses not to deal with is his dislike of anything Christmas related. No decorating, no Secret Santa gifts and no Christmas Music. A modern day Grinch!
About to take off to the Caribbean for a holiday, he gets a phone call from his Granny, the person he loves the most. She and her small Cotswold town of Snowsly are in need of his help. Apparently she is the person in charge of the yearly Snowsly Christmas Market and Granny is sure he can solve their problems.

Celia Sommers is the towns walking, talking Christmas Elf! She has some of the puniest Christmas puns, she lives and breathes the holiday but when Sebastian looks in her eyes, they tell him that she might not be as happy as she makes out to be.

From one disaster to another and a potential Christmas Market war with the next town, Sebastian and Celia end up spending a lot of time with each other. Slowly they start to share the reasons why they feel the way they do about Christmas. With a bit of Christmas cheer and a few steamy nights, these two are on top of all things Christmas in Snowsly!

I do enjoy reading a lovely Christmas story and this was certainly one. No real angst, a few meddling villagers and two people who need to move on from the past. It was an easy read that had me smiling for pretty much the entire book and for one couple it is the happiest time of the year!

I'm sorry (not), but...no. Just no.

Just want y'all to know that this 1 star rating is probably also due to me catching laryngitis and hacking up my lungs few days before the holidays, but NOT ONLY OKAY.

"The 14 Days of Christmas" is pretty much what I've - unfortunately - come to know as a standard holiday-theme romance, which means it contains:

☃ grumpy MMC whose only personality trait is a combo of grumpy + hates Christmas (because apparently sometime in the last few years hating Christmas has become a personality trait and a fatal flaw all in one)

☃ sunshine FMC whose ONLY personality trait is a combo of being happy + loves Christmas (actually, not "loves" Christmas - lots of ppl love Christmas, what's-her-face was absolutely freaking crazy about Christmas and NOT in a good way)

☃ sunshine character acting like the grumpy character is out of their mind and basically committing a cardinal offence for not loving Christmas, because IT'S JUST NOT NORMAL PEOPLE, DO YOU GET IT

P.S. of course both of them love/hate Christmas bc of their Secret Pain.tm

And look, I get it, it's not that deep, it's just a bit of fun, yada yada yada, I don't judge anyone for enjoying it but then don't judge me for hating on it. Fair?

Besides, I'm not saying I don't enjoy this formula, or a variation of it, on occasion. It's just...I'd actually like to have a bit of characterization outside of grumpy vs. sunshine, christmas hater vs. christmas lover thing. And you know, writing things like it's not "normal" and downright heinous not to love christmas is actually pretty fucking offensive and narrow-minded, and I'll leave it at that.

Now, despite me being tired of reading the same exact book with almost the same exact characters with almost the same exact cover for umpteenth time, there was a certain charm to this story I guess, and the overused tropes alone didn't warrant 1 star.

Why 1 star then?

🙄 an endless parade of embarrassingly bad holiday puns

🙄 dirty talk that went like this:

"For someone who likes Christmas and the cold so much, you're ridiculously hot."
"For someone who pretends to be so cold, you've got a really nice penis."

It might've been the temperature, but I swear at "penis", my soul left my body and reading this book became an out-of-body experience.

🙄 there was ZERO build-up to them working through their differences - I swear, on page 10 mmc (I don't remember the names and don't care to check, sorry) was like "ugh, she loves christmas so much, it's so annoying" and on page 12, for no reason, he's suddenly all "oh, she loves christmas so much, charming I guess"

I think I need to read something filthy or bloody next. Or filthy AND bloody.

Deck the halls- Louise Bay is bringing us the spice and the sweet for the holiday season- a little bit of naughty, and a lot of nice! If you love festive reads, Hallmark Christmas movie sentimentality and sweetness, happy feels, and light, quick reads- 14 Days of Christmas is just the fix.

Our story centers on grumpy CEO and resident Christmas grinch, Sebastian- who not only loathes all things Christmas but who also makes sure his employees don’t get taken with any Christmas spirit. Yet on the way to his annual margarita-filled sojourn away from all things yuletide, he learns his beloved Granny has been injured and needs his help running the annual Christmas village market she’s in charge of, quite literally his worst nightmare. Being surrounded by all things festive isn’t very jolly- but until he meets the delightful, sweet, Christmas obsessed Celia- the sunshine to his grumpus. And suddenly he’s right where he wants to be.

I love nothing more than the sunshine-grumpy trope, especially when our grump finds joy and love not only in the romance but in the spirit of the season. As a Christmas-aficionado myself, I just get all the swoony, happy feels seeing the proverbial Grinch find love- and his heart growing from it. And this book ticked all those boxes. Not to mention, we have lots of fun and witty flirting- these two are pretty adorable once they start canoodling. It is a bit shorter in length, and I wish we’d had a bit more at the end. But this book is just BRIMMING with Christmas festiveness, and the small town setting with all the Christmas market fun is just a delight.

The 14 Days of Christmas will have you ready to fa-la-la-la ing - it’s light, laid back, sweet, and low angst- just something to make the heart merry and bright. And merry and bright I am.

This is an interesting mix of a sweet, festive story in a quaint village in England and a very sexy, fun and quirky holiday romance.
Sebastian hates Christmas, he is a no nonsense business man from London. His Grandmother sprains her ankle and requests his help with her holiday duties leading up to her villages annual Christmas festival. He’s a doting and loving grandson so he cancels his Island vacation and heads to Snowly village to help save Christmas.
Celia is practically a Christmas elf, light up holiday sweaters and Christmas puns just roll off her tongue with ease. She LOVES Christmas, she has a smile for everyone and is extremely peppy.
They are forced together to save the festivities. They are opposites and don’t understand each other.. at first. Of course they both end up seeing through each other’s walls and defenses.
They have really fun and enjoyable conversations and their chemistry slowly heats up to a blazing Christmas bonfire!
I love that this story has the feel of a sweet holiday story and then it has the emotional and sexy fun side.
I liked the mix a lot.
It’s very festive, I was always entertained and it had a decent amount of emotional depth that hit me in the feelings.
The two characters fall fast, but they do have an understanding of each other’s personalities and their emotional baggage. There is some character growth/changes.
Their attraction and chemistry is really cute, fun and spicy.
The end was quite clever and kind of a full circle feeling. I really loved it.
A very fulfilling holiday romance with lots of cheer and heart!

The 14 Days of Christmas is a light, enjoyable, holiday story with steam that reads like a made for television holiday movie. A Christmas hating CEO must forgo his beach vacation to help his grandmother he’d do anything for when she falls and hurts her ankle. Arriving in the town he loved when he was allowed to visit, Sebastian is overwhelmed with everything Christmas including Celia, the Christmas Market chairperson and his grandmother’s right hand woman who happens to love Christmas.

Sebastian and Celia tackle one problem after the other and with Celia’s ideas and Sebastian’s money and connections they race to make sure that the town of Snowsly and its merchants have the best Christmas Market in years despite the suspected sabotage from a nearby town.

This was a light and fluffy read, no angst between the couple other than the fact Sebastian had an end-date in town Dec. 24th which happened to be a day that was ruined for Celia last year when her boyfriend of 6 years left her. I felt they had chemistry, they worked well together, and shared a good deal of their pasts with one another so for a novella, a good bit of character development. While it was a bit predictable, it was still a good time.

The 14 Days of Christmas was an enjoyable, low on angst, high on Christmas cheer, holiday romance that was a delight to read.

If you are a holiday romance fan that enjoys the Hallmark and Lifetime movies but with a side of sexiness pack your bags because we are headed to Snowly.
Sebastian Fox is our CEO that may have a huge dislike for Christmas and all that it represents. He spends each year in a tropical destination and as far away from his hometown Snowly as he can. So, when his Grams calls and is in need of help and he will do anything for this woman, he changes plans and heads to her and the Inn.
Celia Sommers is a woman on a mission to make this Christmas better than ever. She wants new memories this year. When her boss at the Inn takes a fall and is out of commission, she soon finds out that reinforcements are on the way in the form of her grandson.
What she isn't expecting is the sex on a stick grinch of a man to be the grandson. He is so not what she is expecting ! Get ready to laugh out loud at and with Celia and Sebastain.
I was smitten with these characters from the start but as we follow them and their adventures, I couldn't help but fall in love with them, the people that surround them and the world that Louise created! It is a winter wonderland with laughter, so much swoon and yes, some sexy times!

I love Christmas and The 14 Days of Christmas is one of the best holiday reads so far this year, if you want a magical read to put you in the mood for the upcoming season look no further than Sebastian Fox and Celia Sommers holiday romance.
Sebastian hates everything about Christmas but when his granny calls and says she needs help he takes off for Snowsly ( I love this name) instead of the Caribbean, it was only meant to be for few days but once he arrives he finds himself wrapped up in everything Christmas including making Snowsly the town everyone visits to get a piece of the holiday spirit, what’s follows is a man doing an about turn on his feelings for Christmas and love.
From the moment Celia and Sebastian meet it’s obvious there is an attraction but she loves everything Christmas and he is the Grinch so will Snowsly the Christmas capital of England work it’s magic……
A wonderful story with adorable characters, a magical read that I highly recommend.

This story was a “grumpy billionaire Scrooge meets super perky woman who loves Christmas”. She, along with his grandmother and her community help him rediscover the Christmas magic.
It was saccharine sweet like 3 spoonfuls of sugar. I wasn’t expecting that as it didn’t feel like a Louise Bay book. It didn’t feel like her writing style and it lacked her signature steaminess —The sex scenes were meh. I was disappointed by that. But if you love Hallmark style stories, this one is for you as it’s full of lots of Christmas puns and romance corniness.

Louise Bay is one of my fave go-to authors. While I haven't read all her books, the ones I've read always leaves you inspired and swoony... and of course, this one is no different.

I love Christmas! No matter how much it's different now as adults with adult problems, deep down I'm still a child when it comes to Christmas. My fondest childhood memories are always during Christmas time. I can relate to our FMC and of course to the grandma! It's the Grinch meets the daughter of Santa Claus! Very nice, light, sexy, swoony and funny holiday read!

He hates Christmas. She loves it. They fall in love and he stays instead of leaving on Christmas Eve. Very cliche but I enjoyed it lmao.

Super cute easy hallmark vibes book. The beginning was kinda slow and it didn’t have much depth but the ending was really cute.

This was a really cute holiday story. Very Hallmark “save Christmas in a small town” vibes but also with some open-door spice scenes.

Both main characters were lovable. Sebastian is a London businessman who is a grump about Christmas but has a soft spot for his grandma and I do love a MMC that is a bit of a grump because he’s a hurt little boy in there. It all pieces together.

Celia is a delight - maybe a bit TOO into Christmas but she has her reasons as well. I like how her warmth and sly-yet-over-the-top humour slides right under Sebastian’s skin and they just start to work smoothly together, complementing each other nicely. You can see why they fall in together.

It’s a smooth story, pretty cheerful and low-angst. Nice to read for some Christmas cheer that gives you the warm fuzzies with a touch of heat. I always enjoy Louise’s books, she just makes it easy to read and fall in love!

Just like a sexy Hallmark movie! This was a light, upbeat holiday read with a touch of steam and a laidback romance. It's an interesting length - more than a novella, but it didn't quite feel like a complete novel either. That's the only place where it loses points for me - I keep expectations low when reading holiday novellas, but this was *almost* a full-length book, so I was disappointed by the lackluster ending. That being said, the rest of the book is pretty solid. We've got a grumpy/sunshine dynamic going on, plenty of holiday cheer, and a small town feel that keeps things fun and easy.

The story follows Sebastian, a broody businessman who returns home for the first time in years when his Granny is injured. She needs Sebastian to step in and help with the setup of a Christmas market, and he couldn't be less interested in the project. Sebastian is not a fan of Christmas, and he certainly doesn't want to be immersed in it for weeks. The only upside is a sweet, Christmas-loving woman who is also working on the market. Sebastian and Celia pair up to get the project finished, and chemistry sparks along the way. They're total opposites, but Celia's sunny side has Sebastian feeling a little brighter. He's only in town for a few weeks, but Celia has Sebastian wanting more of this feeling.

I enjoyed this the whole way through (with the exception of the final act), but I wouldn't say that I ever "loved" it. It flew by though, and was just what I was in the mood for. Things stay relatively light and carefree for much of the story, with a sweet, soft feel and a little bit of steam. I liked both characters and I liked them together. Their relationship is definitely better developed than other holiday romances I've read, though I think the ending is pretty lame. Can't voice my complaints about it without offering up spoilers, so I'll just say it was a novella-quality ending for a book that is twice the length of the last holiday novella I read. It's similar to a Hallmark movie in that way - this is all about the buildup, the low angst feel, and the holiday fun. Which makes it a great read for Christmastime. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this light romance.

Need to get into the Xmas mood—then The 14 Days of Christmas is the read for you. As far as I’m concerned, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Not only did it cheer me up, but I’ll also be putting my tree up earlier than usual. And I have to say that Bay’s lovely covers and fitting titles are always genre-appropriate.

Bay’s gone all out with the character development. An adorable lass whose smiles shine through the pages and a grumpy businessman who has his reasons for disliking this joyous season is the perfect recipe for this opposites-attract novel. Although they aren’t on the same wavelength regarding Xmas, his attitude doesn’t put a damper on Celia’s quest to make the village market the best in the county. But Celia’s laugh-out-loud puns, energy and yuletide spirit start to charm Sebastian. Her attire! Ooh my, I would love to have Christmassy jumpers and hats like hers.

I was certainly taken with Sebastian’s granny. She’s shrewd, has a great sense of humour, and I loved that her heart was in the right place—with family, friends and the villagers. All the good-natured secondary characters complimented the story, and I simply adored the setting. But not a word about the scorching scenes. That’s for you to enjoy.

Towards the ending, I was a tad anxious as to who had done what. But Bay let the cat out of the bag at just the right time. The twist in the story was very well-thought-out, although I did think the reason for Celia’s past hurt could have been more detailed. I loved how Sebastian helped her deal with it and the way he handled something that had been haunting him.

Lovers of feel-good seasonal romances, snuggle up somewhere comfy, get a mug of hot chocolate and the marshmallows ready and relish Sebastian and Celia’s delightful tale!

4.5🌟s! This is such a terrific holiday book! It has everything you could want in a feel good Christmas story: a grumpy hero, sweet heroine, a over-the-top Christmas-y town and enough heat to melt Frosty!

Sebastian reluctantly comes to Snowsly to help his ailing Grandma with the town’s annual Christmas market. He prefers his Christmas vacation to be spent on the beaches of Barbados, but little does he know that he will finally get swept up in the magic of Christmas in this sweet town.

Sebastian and Celia are put in charge of solving all the problems that creep up as the market gets close to opening. I love the town rivalry with Snowsville! Nothing like a little Christmas intrigue to get the blood pumping. Except, I think it’s the blossoming romance between Celia and Sebastian that does that, if I’m being honest.

They are a perfect opposites attract pairing, but they definitely have things in common in the bedroom, because their chemistry is smoking hot.

Celia’s former boyfriend left with a bit of mystery, I was so hoping that we’d find out more about that. Because I wouldn’t put it past the conniving folks of Snowsly to have run him out of town!

What a great holiday story with all the heart and romance of a Hallmark movie, but with the added spice that I love.

I received an advance copy of this book from Candi Kane PR and these are my honest opinions.

You know how you're reading BritLit and everyone is so proper and controlled, the pacing us slower and there is luke-warm build up to the romance, there isn't a man internally referring to the female's "tits"?

This was exactly how 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝟏𝟒 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐌𝐀𝐒 was merrily rolling along and then—BLAMMO!—a sex scene with a position I had to re-read 3 times to make sure I was picturing it correctly (because SCIENCE). Listen, I'm not mad about it, it just came outta nowhere and went from tame holiday tale to upside down felatio in an instant.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝟏𝟒 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐌𝐀𝐒 was a decent holiday read, but not a fantastic one. There is a very obvious plot twist that you can see coming a mile away. There is a sad backstory that never gets fully fleshed out. And characters that seem just a bit underdeveloped. But there is plenty of charm, some funny parts, and—lest we forget—some seriously steamy scenes.
