Once upon a time, Beverly Kilbourne made her choice. She killed her friends. She killed her parents. She left Los Angeles and chased her dreams of killing in New York. Twelve years later, Beverly is thirty, thriving, and deadlier than ever. Life is good. …For how long is another story. Adulthood has a way of getting complicated. Beverly knows how to handle a mess, but if she’s not careful, she may not see the end of this one.
It's been about twelve years after the first book takes place. Beverly has moved away from California. She has a new life. She has a new family. And they are just as bloodthirsty as she is. A match made in murderer heaven?! Maybe! But then the past comes knocking on her door and she can't help but straddle the past, present, and future all at the same time. It gets MESSY!
I am totally here for this sequel! From the Showgirls reference/quote to the college university named after my favorite director, this book continues to deliver homages to lots of movies, actors, directors, and more. It's really fun picking up on all the little Easter eggs throughout.
I liked the journey that Beverly goes through here. I like how she knew who she was and was steadfast in that fact. But then even she can be infallible (yes, I get that she's a murderer LOL) in her ways and truly be put to the test. I won't say TOO much more because I could be hopping down major spoilery rabbit holes.
If you read the first book, definitely see what happens next here! And if not? Then pick these two books up and give yourself a great experience of murder, psychology, and, yes, family.
Beverly is back and things are perhaps more intense than they were in the first book. Twelve years have past and she’s gone on with her life. New town, new home, new family. It seems she’s escaped the crimes of her past. Or has she?
The thing that I love the most about Sean McDonough’s writing is the way he gets you emotionally invested in the characters. I wanted to root against Beverly, but it was so easy to understand her motivations that I couldn’t help but root for her.
If you loved Beverly Kills, definitely don’t miss out on this sequel. This is one bloody series that you won’t forget!
She’s back! And she’s more delightful than ever! It’s difficult to review this one without spoilers, but it’s a great fast paced slasher that picks up 12 years after we last see Beverly heading off to start her new life. And here we are in Beverley’s new life, with all the fun, gory stuff that comes along with Beverly Kilbourne!
I waited three long years for this sequel to finally exist and to read it after falling in love with the first book, and I can now say, it was absolutely worth the wait!! Beverly Kilbourne, no longer an 18 year old cheerleader with a body count, but a grown woman (with a much higher body count), now lives a perfect life. But you never can tell when the past will creep up on you! I loved this book so much. It was everything I was hoping for, though not what I was expecting (if that makes any sense lol). The writing in this was so fluid and easy that I quickly forgot that I was reading and not actually in the shoes of a beautiful but deadly psychopath. And just as Sean McDonough did with the first book, he succeeded in getting me fully emotionally invested in this one as well. Beverly still firmly holds her position as one of my favorite slashers of all-time 🖤🔪 5/5 decapitated skulls ☠️
Wow!! There is a lot that I want to say about this book, but being that this is a sequel and not wanting to give any spoilers away, and because I'm still numb and processing what I just read, I won't. If you've read the first book, you need to read this. If you haven't read the first book, then you need to read both of them. I hardly ever give 5 stars to books of fiction. The Author really has to earn that final star. But Sean Mcdonough definitely deserves it. I didn't know that he had a story like this in him. I hope he has more.
Wow. This is one of those books that hooks you in and makes the world around you cease to exist.
It’s the sequel to Beverly Kills and while I recommend checking that one out first, you could probably still follow along with this one if you haven’t. (Check it out though. It’s great.)
It is amazing how this book hacks your brain and has you rooting for a complete psychopath. I was fully invested in Beverly’s complicated situation and was at the edge of my seat. I also enjoyed the horror Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the book. Solid.
I would love to write an awesome detailed review. Unfortunately, that is not possible without spoiling this book and the first one. SEAN, you knocked it out of the park with this one!! It was everything I hoped for and more. I LOVE Beverly so much!! All the twists and turns had my jaw on the floor. The reference on page 222, loved it!!
“‘If you’ve missed McDonough you’ve missed a treat’ -Sean McDonough” - Me 4.5 ⭐️
A lot has changed for Beverly since we saw her last. Almost every thing has changed, actually. Except the killing. There’s still that! With this new life comes a new kind of freedom, but not a freedom from the past. And when the past tries to enter into her life again, Beverly has to make some hard choices. Don’t piss off a serial killing psychopath!
I had so much fun with this one. I really enjoyed the first book but think I liked the sequel even more. Normally, I’m not really into sequels with horror. McDonough delivers his consistent wit and slasher fun, but, much like the first book, I felt like this book packed an awesome emotional punch, too. It’s violent and gory, but also heartfelt. Kind of like saying a vicious tiger is sweet when it tends to its cubs, but it will still eviscerate you!
This is my fourth from McDonough and they’ve all been fun reads. Safe to say I’d recommend any of his work at this point.
The first book was good, but I feel like this one was even better! Beverly is back and my how some things have changed. I loved seeing this different side of her, but I was also happy to see the old Beverly alive and well. She still has a hunger for taking people out and this time things seem a bit more challenging, not only because of who they are but now there are some feelings involved.
McDonough offers plenty of blood and twists with this gripping sequel. It amazes me how he can have you cheering for a complete psychopath. Beverly is a wonderful character despite the high body count that follows her. If you love slashers, don’t miss out on this book.
“My heart never beat faster than when it was stopping somebody else’s.”
When we last saw Beverly, she was 18 years old and had just landed in New York City. When the sequel picks up, Beverly is a 30 year old wife & mother living in Alabama. We also encounter a ghost from her past, which leads to a disastrous outcome. Although not as good as the first book, this is a pretty solid story. There are enough twists that keep it from being predictable, but the ending is a bit vague and leaves the reader with questions. Perhaps this is the author's way of leaving open the possibility of a third book in the series? I know I wouldn't mind seeing Beverly's story continue. Only time will tell.
Ok parts of this book I hated god why ..hate spoilers.. So just read. This one is not as fun as the first book. Its not to gruesome so your still safe. The family crazy they all blend in until a certain character pops back up. The daughter ends up just like mother kinda a plus. The ending not bad could did a epilogue. I honestly hope there's a third book to see where Beverly ends up. At the end she's capable of being loved really loved.
This sequel to Beverly Kills was a deeper story than I expected. Beverly Kills was such a smart slasher with a high body count. Beverly is back, and she has a new life after the carnage she left behind years ago. Highly recommend these books to anyone that loves slashers as much as I do.
Absolutely loved this sequel! Beverly is back and bloodier than ever! This one is more brutal, more heartfelt, and more intense than Beverly Kills and I absolutely loved every page of it. Beverly will always have a blood-soaked place in my heart.
