Fleeing a broken heart, Tess runs away to Aurora Springs, Texas, where she joins a frontier settlement of dreamers attracted by mysterious lights in the sky and finds unexpected love. Original.
Geralyn Dawson is the USA Today bestselling author of over twenty novels. She is a three-time finalist for the prestigious Romance Writers' of America's RITA award and a recipient of their Top Ten Favorite Books of the Year award. She received Romantic Times magazine's Career Achievement award and its Reviewer's Choice award. In 2009, the American Library Association named her romantic suspense novel, ALWAYS LOOK TWICE, as one of the top ten romances of the year.
This is the first book I have read by this author. She's a great writer and storyteller, and I certainly plan to read more of her books. She's great at description, and can certainly set a mood and a scene. There was a lot to like about this book, and I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I certainly liked the hero - he was very engaging. For the most part it was an interesting story, a believable romance, and I enjoyed the quirky secondary characters. The author injected humor, but it never took over, or interfered with the more serious aspects of the storyline.
So, why only 3 starts? Two reasons. First, the heroine had information she was keeping from the hero. When they first reconnected, it was understandable. But, she held onto the information for far too long into the book, and I found myself thinking over and over "tell him already, he deserves to know." I just kept getting more and more angry with the heroine. And that was the other problem for me, the heroine. I understand that good writers want to make their protagonists as realistic as possible, and that entails giving them flaws. This heroine's flaws just didn't work for me. When she was upset, she turned vicious towards the hero. The first time it happened was somewhat understandable. There had just been a devastating occurrence in her life, and she was only 17. However, years later, when she and the hero reconnect, she's older and more mature. Yet she does it again, and for something far less devastating than the earlier event. Her unwillingness to divulge her secret, and this nasty behavior, just turned me off to her. When I don't like either the hero or heroine, it's difficult for me to enjoy the book, no matter how well written.
Other readers may disagree. We all have our pet peeves, and the author just happened to use some plot devices that hit some of mine. However, as I said, this author is a great storyteller, and so I look forward to reading more of her books.
Quirky, humorous with strong but vulnerable characters.
Tragedy ripped Tess & Gabe appart but a scented greezed pig sent them careening back into each other's lives.
A commune of eccentrics, an incorrigible pig and kissing stars are at the centre of schemes & plots. It's also centre stage of the opportunity to let 12 years of misery & longing to be laid to rest but the emotional pain is crippling.
It's such a moving tale of second chances, forgiveness and family (those you gather close). Enjoy
The story was fun but I am just not a fan of sex scenes. The last few chapters were very engaging and made the story. I can't say it was a bad book just not my style and so I won't recommend it do to language and sex.
The Kissing Stars wasn't as entertaining as some of Geralyn Dawson's earlier work (The Bad Luck Wedding Dress is a personal favorite of mine), and the humor wears a little thin (most of it seems to center on a pig who thinks she's human). However, it was still an enjoyable read.
Better than I expected. I would definitely read more by the same author. The digital copy should be edited/reviewed for errors though. All uses of the word "fact" are written as "feet", and sone punctuation is missing. Still good though!
What a great story! This is the first book I read by Geralyn Dawson, but it will definitely not be the last! Now I have to add Texas to my bucket list...
