Yuliya rose to fame with her stellar vocals, but it was a Christmas number one that catapulted her into global superstardom.
Twenty years on, the diva’s star is fading and YuYu no likey. With her Yuletide hit at number two, now’s the time to remind her record label of how reigniting her career could benefit them both.
But she’s not faded to everybody. In fact, some fires have only burned brighter as the years have gone by.
Some of the Yunatics, her hardcore fans, have intensified their obsession with their Queen, and this holidays, they want some quality Yu Time.
Between cold-blooded showbiz sharks and hot-headed gaga groupies, there’s going to be a meltdown, and YuYu’s gonna need a festive miracle for this Christmas not to be her last.
If you want a darkly funny novella to bring a little Misery to your Christmas, or are fascinated by toxic fandom, the cutthroat nature of the music business, or popstars who crawl out of their caves once a year to make a Christmas killing, all you’ll want this Christmas is YuYu.
Didn’t grip my attention really but finished it since it was a short story. I always recommend others give it a try even if I didn’t like it. Everyone has different likes. 🩷
This book reminds me of Knock Knock the worst movie I have seen…
In the beginning I enjoyed it but as time went on this whole story seemed so pointless it felt like pure torture. This is marked as a horror but it didn’t felt like one.
The story is about a very popular singer YuYu who’s fame is fading after twenty years but there are some hardcore fans of her, their obsession is starting to intensify with the holidays, they want some quality Yu time.
This book started out so well so I’m ever more disappointed with the second half of the book.
Unfortunately I would not recommend this book to anyone.
In this Christmas/horror novella, YuYu - a Mariah Carey-esque diva with a long-standing Christmas No. 1 - comes face-to-face with the consequences of fame.
This started very strong. It was over the top, campy and hilarious. It poked fun at the glitz and drama pop superstars surround themselves with. But as the story went on, it lost some of that fun and whimsy. It felt like the opening chapters and the main plot were two separate stories merged together. I still enjoyed it but I definitely preferred the earlier silliness of the Yunatics.
I received this book for free from netgalley in exchange for a review.
Thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher for a copy to review.
This was a short fun thriller. Very Mariah Carey vibes with this one. I myself can't stand her song, This book was fun. It wasn't the best, but it did have it's good moments too. I found some bits to be more enjoyable than others, and the writing itself didn't pull me in as much as the story. I suggest this if your looking for a short fun thriller for the holiday season.
This was a short thriller/horror story with a diva singer as the main character. The first few pages were actually a really interesting format. But there was a disjointed storyline with unclear connections between a few of the characters. The first part of the story focuses on one side character and then the feast of the story focuses on something completely different.
Overall, this was an entertaining read. I found myself smiling while reading the beginning, especially when reading about Everly. I thought that some of the dialogue and vocabulary read awkwardly, but a good editor would be able to help with that.
A great little read - it's like a Christmas episode of Inside No. 9 in book form, with plenty of twists and turns. Perfect as a stocking filler this Christmas!
