Private Logan Burrows is a null, an anomaly in a world where modified soldiers are either Dominant or submissive. As long as his life is organized and he keeps the anger he feels toward Dominants close and burning bright in his chest, then he manages just fine. No one would suspect that he occasionally struggles with any pesky submissive quirks.
Then he's sent on a mission to rescue Sergeant Robert Hanson, a kidnapped Dominant who isn't like the others. First of all, he isn't a jerk. Plus, he's nice. And kind.
Worst of all, he's gorgeous.
Being around Robert makes Logan want to submit. Not that he knows how. He'd be terrible at it. In fact, it would ruin his entire life if he gave in to the burgeoning desire he feels for the Dominant.
So he won't.
It's that easy…right?
This is a full-length novel set in a world similar to our own except that soldiers have been modified by he government to have either Dominant or submissive needs that require them to engage in kinky sex to survive. (Yes, really.)
While this book is a stand-alone, Robert is introduced in Submissive, the first book in the series.
Jamie Kassel is a pen name for C.H. Roquel, author of Lesbian BDSM fiction. She lives in California with her family and is obsessed with fictional characters who get their happy endings... and lots of perfect-for-them sex. (Source: Amazon.com)
#author threw every possible kink at the wall to see what sticks #turns out it's bdsm AU #with traces of abo #kinks ahoy #a sweet sub in denial #the power of a healing Dom-Dick #plot what plot # come for the porn stay for the porn
Once more with feeling: This is porn with (some) plot. With expectations on writing and worldbuilding quality adjusted accordingly this is a spectacular kinky romp.
IF you are into what the author is putting down you'll have a great time. It's got everything this trope needs: A sub struggling with his designation, the sweet push and pull of wanting to submit but not being able to let go, a Dom pushing juuust hard enough to make the sub 'break'.

I enjoyed this story and the intrigue and politics around why Logan was the way he was and the dynamics within his family. The effect that Robert had on Logan was interesting as were the techniques he used to help Logan submit. At the centre, there was a loving relationship between the two men. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content set in an omegaverse with D/s.
This one was as good as the first! I do wish I could have gotten more of Logan and Robert together in their dynamic. For much of the book, because Logan is struggling with his designation, Robert and him don't delve into it until near the end. I also think as much as the father was talked about, it was wild that he never appears in the book. He's literally this evil villain that Logan fears and hides his designation because of and the reason Daniel is gone, yet he never steps on page and in fact is so surprisingly dealt with that it sort of feels like, why was he even in the book to begin with?
But beyond those things, really loved the book. I enjoyed the slow build for Logan and Robert. Loved seeing Logan come into himself. And loved that Robert got to care so genuinely for his man. Cannot wait for the next book!
I just found it reeeeeellly cringy. Aside from the cringe, the idea that the military created these “super-soldiers”, who are either D or s, and them being how they’re portrayed, are allowed out into the civilian world? Seems ridiculous. And, they don’t even seem all that super-soldiery. Not smarter, for sure. Stronger maybe and more, uh-hem, virile, but it’s very “unwanted copulation”-y. And they’re living in the same war-by-drone world we are so I don’t even see the need for the super-soldier development anyway. I didn’t read book one and I won’t be reading the next one. (That’ll teach me ((again)) to not judge a book by its cover:)
Book 1 was smoking hot in an OBVIOUSLY sexual sort of way but this book Robert wields his Dominance without being sexual at first and there's just so much UST as Logan struggles with his Null designation, struggles to stay within his range and fight his submissive leanings that Robert brings out in him and that breaking is so delicious to read. Even better is he way the normally platonic and friendly Robert breaks his own set boundaries for his submissive and claims what is his. It's SUPER SEXY bio kink to the max and I'm already hard up for book 3. I could re-read this one into oblivion. Logan's natural bratty streak and Robert's eagerness to be the brat tamer to make Logan his sweet boy just has me undone.
All the triggers guys, so much self-inflicted pain and suffrage. The hurt comfort vibes in this are off the chart. Yes, thank you, it's amazing.
Spice. Seriously. Super spicey.
This dominant, though? The patience on this man.
Okay, so if I had to complain, honestly, maybe it should be like a 4.5 just because of this, but you could easily add another 100 pages of going deeper into some issues and plot lines. That I really wanted to read about it. That being said, you don't feel like anything is missing. You just want more.
High recommend. Ugh, I need the next one right now.
Jamie Kassel is a favorite for a reason . There is just something in the writing that turns even the strangest books incredible.
The second in the series, another twist between military romance and omegaverse and it worked great! I loved the kink, loved that Jamie Kassel keeps revealing these new kinks in me!
The plot isn’t massively complex but I loved the characters. I loved the angst, the pining, the complexity of disorders that even if this wasn’t an omergaverse, they would still have been interesting to explore.
First Jamie Kassel book I was not crazy about. Her books are hot — this one on the whole had much less steam. They hooked up at the last 20% of the book.
More importantly, I have never liked mm romances with internalized homophobia and this was the equivalent, but Logan’s submissiveness was the equivalent of him being gay and ashamed of that. It was like his lamenting and failed communication about what he was going through was endless. I couldn’t understand his appeal to Robert, who was perfect.
Also, the ending with Liam was so disjointed, I realize None of this is realistic, but that was such a stretch I actually rolled my eyes.
Still love you, Jamie, but this one was not for me.
4.5 stars. Much, much better than book one. I loved this one! Almost a five star but I found the ending to be really rushed and I wanted more. This one was high on emotions and feels because my goodness poor Logan really hates his submissive side and punishes himself brutally for it. It was heartbreaking and he was just so angry and broken. Also, him not knowing what happened to his brother was sad as well. Robert was incredibly kind and patient with Logan which I loved. He understood him well and they had great chemistry together even when Logan was trying to deny it. A great romance and I’m glad that there’s going to be a book three and I cannot wait for it to come out.
As another reviewer said it’s all porn not a lot of plot. I actually like the world but I so wish it was more explored as there is nothing but the sex here. I liked Logan and enjoyed the push/pull he felt and the guilt and how it was expressed. I enjoyed the smut. However, I spent a lot of the time thinks about Daniel and so wanted to get his story.
Extra star as the entire beginning had some smut. However, the torture and captive of the dominant got no real handling — the sex took that over as well. Big bummer as there was so much to explore and a contrast between them would have really notched this up.
Okay this book is the second in the series and I really like it! The plot is good, characters are interesting, and honestly such a great story line and world building! The only reason it rates a little lower for me is due to the writing. It can be harder to follow and I found myself confused in some chapters. That being said it never once crossed my mind as a DNF so while the writing style is different it was easy to push through!
I really liked this one but I really wish we had gotten more time with Logan and Robert actually in their relationship, as that’s the part I like the best. Most of the book was them figuring each other out. It just seemed really rushed at the end. I am looking forward to Daniel’s story.
I love Jamie and this series already! I wanted to cry every time Logan did something he thought he needed, but absolutely love Robert for being transparent and making sure he had clear consent. I can’t wait to possibly read about Logan’s brother, but as much as I hate Hank, I hope there’s a book about him coming out at some point! Can’t wait for whatever comes next!
Another fun and sexy romp, where the sex is a fascinating but essential part of both the plot, the romance, and even the individual character arcs. I still have lots of questions about this world-building, and I do think one of the kink elements felt a bit contrived, but Kassel still set up the ending in such a way that I'm looking forward to the next installment of this series.
What a bizarre omegaverse world I’ve entered. There were parts I liked, and parts that just weren’t my thing. However, the entire thing was interesting enough that it held my attention. Logan’s self-torture and emotional pain. 😭 Robert’s kindness and gentle love. ❤️🩹 These two. 🥰 And there was more depth to the characters than in the previous story I read by this author, which was nice.
I need a Daniel and Liam book expeditiously. So fast my head would spin please and thank you. In all honesty I love the way this author writes and their unique style in regards to omegaverse stories have caught my eye and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Jamie Kassel has taken k1nk and applied it to the military. Altered soldiers who are given experimental treatments and as an unexpected consequence end up being subs or doms. Very interesting and unique.
The beginning was a 4, Robert was amazing, and Logan was so deep. Then the second half was, just not as good? I can't say it was bad, but it felt different somehow, and I didn't enjoy it the same way.
There should have been a second epilogue just about Logan and Robert the book ended abruptly for them even if Logan's brother was mentioned. I loved everything else.
I love Jamie Kassel's brand of kink -- with the sub a needy, vulnerable mess desperate to let go of toxic ideals in order to be seen and cared for; the tops similarly desperate to meet that need but loving enough (and self respecting enough) to ensure the sub fully understands and consents. This book is no different.
Logan is drowning and self harms to pass as the null he is expected to be. He is always in survival mode and denial is his only coping strategy. But meeting Robert chages everything. Robert may be recovering from torture but he is still calm, assuring, and safe. Everything Logan needs to finally shed his armor and reveal the soft boy underneath.
I don't think I can get tired of this sweet, spicy dynamic. So hot while incredibly endearing. I hope so much we get a third book that is even more intense with this newly alluded to prey designation!
Personally I think you need to read book 1 to understand the world building/genetics as book 2 just jumps right in without giving background. This is biokink. I like the concept of this series - genetic modification of military men cause d/s to develop without any choice of destination before you are genetically altered. Book 1 was very sex heavy, no real plot, but book 2 is more plot focused as MC1 came out of his modification as a Null and it’s how he deals (or not) when this starts to change. MC2 is a dom who wants to help MC1 and cares for him. We are set up for book 3 at the end. It was MPOV. I’ve read one of this author’s earlier works and it was awful. I did only give book 1 of this series a try as I was on the hunt for biokink after reading an excellent book called Oh Sacred Dark. However I can say the books are getting better and it’s great seeing an indie author develop. It’s low sex but still a 4 star for me.
