Hello ... I'm a self-confessed time-travel fan. So, unsurprisingly, my books fit into the time-travel genre. My third book, Eye of Time, will be published in October 2021. Please drop onto my website for updates.
I worried as I started this second book in this series (another due next year apparently) that this would be a classic sequel and just be a rework of the first episode. However much of that was down to the author needing to be reminded about the previous story otherwise it would be hard to understand how fundamentally the timeline and character arcs were changing. Once again this is an entertaining and engaging story that has fun playing with the butterfly effect of small things having a big impact. Will I read the next episode when it's released.
Excellent as always but a real mind bender at times
Adrian Cousins produces another superb book with some excellent twists. If I mention any of them, it might be a spoiler, but you would have to read the book to make sense of them. Let's just say there are a lot of people moving about here and at times I had to reread pages to ensure I understood what was going on. At least Mr Cousins had the characters point out that it can be confusing to make me feel less dense.
One thing I didn't remember / realise was that not all travelers make it successfully, with vaporisation being one potential outcome.
Well worth a read if you've never read his work before and if you have, then you'll be reading this anyway.
I normally love this guy’s books and buy them as soon as they become available. He is very good at building his characters and that, unfortunately, is where I struggled with this one. His main character, Jayne Stone, is so irritating that I struggled to read it. I kept thinking “please, please will somebody do her in…”.
I’m sorry Adrian, but if she’s in your next book then I won’t be buying it.
PS - this is the first time I have ever written a book review which might tell you how annoying I found her character.
Interesting addition to the series, got lost a bit trying to remember which strand of the multiverse was being narrated but a good read all the same. Amusing that the Apsleys put in a cameo appearance without being involved in enlarging the club membership. However I see that Sir Frank and Lady Jane Stone are due a third outing, which I eagerly await, so who knows if the circle of time travellers of both series do or do not find out about each other. Only time will tell 😉
Another brilliant romp from an inspirational writer......
Adrian paints pictures with his words and transports the imagination back to the 70's . The characters are rounded, believable and take you on their journey with them. The number of times I've laughed out loud at the antics causes my husband to question what am I giggling at! The introduction of beer swilling Alfie-boy this time is genius. Can't wait for the next episode. Well done Adrian for another fantastic book.
Loved the pace of this book - people travelling back in time unexpectedly, and I'm sure there's more to the chops-licking, farting dog than meets the eye!
If you've read Adrian Cousins other books you'll enjoy seeing those characters pop up in minor roles. If you haven't read them - why not??!!
Exceptional writing as always, Mr Cousins has a knack of writing a serious ,complicated plotline but making it make sense not only that but very funny too . Brilliantly thought out plot that will have you believing that the author actually travelled back in time to do his research. Another smash hit from this man
After reading #1, I thought that was great, then number 2 - absolutely fan blooming tastic. Not to give any spoilers, but the character "Alfie Boy" I could relate to my own, now long lost friend. Totally believable if you are like me. As for the story, blew my head apart trying to keep up to date (and back again). Very good, very funny, very confusing all in equal measures.
a difficult one to review as obviously the third book will explain the dog more. However I recommend reading all his books in order if you wish to get confused,,amused & thoroughly entertained 👏
I've enjoyed all of Adrian's books but I must say I got a bit lost with this one. Maybe I need to read it again! The concept is still entertaining and thought-provoking. I loved the 70s references and, as a kid, we had a dog just like Alf.
Really got into the story- I actually think this was easier to follow than the first book. Another great storyline, fun and enjoyable characters and great set up for book 3. Definitely add to your reading list!
Rather difficult to keep track of what characters there were and which time. Of course, my favourite character was Alfie, so sad when I discovered he had died, but loved the animal cemetery scene.
I have enjoyed other books from this author but I found this one lacking direction, it was often unclear where it was leading. I needed up skimming through the last quarter of it rather than waste more time on it. Sorry to be so negative but this one was a disappointment to me.
too formulaic from first book and Jayne was not a character that engaged … I get the paradox of multiple time travels to the same event but .. it just didn’t work for me
